We feel good and making a contribution is easy and natural. Get into flow by noticing how things make you feel. What foods make you feel good? What exercise/movement feels good? What activities feel good? What people make you feel good when you're with them?Pay attention to how you feel and chose things that feel good and make you happy. It takes awareness to stay in flow because we are wired to go off track. Being human means that we're inclined to go into a state of threat - meaning, there is something I need to control. It is human nature to live in the 'Drama Triangle' where we feel like we need to be right about something. It could be as simple as being 'right' that I don't have enough time or energy or resources. It could also be a judgment of self or of others (being right about someone). The Drama Triangle consists of these three 'people' (any one of these can be me):Victim - Powerless, 'he/she made me', I had no choice, it's someone else's faultVillain  - Makes judgments about situations or people - right/wrong, good/bad, the criticHero  - The one who must save, rescue, redeem, make problems go away, ends sufferingTo escape the 'Drama Triangle', one must surrender being 'right'. I may be right. I may be wrong. It doesn't matter. Can you be okay with saying, 'I don't know'?

Many great leaders understand that company culture is one of their greatest customer advantages and the foundation of culture is in the health of, not only the individual team members, but also of the team as a functioning whole. The first steps to becoming a leader of a high-performance team is to be completely accountable as a steward of culture through your behaviors, actions, and communications. Take those first steps today and lead your team to consciously create together. See show notes and get free tools at AllowedPodcast.com.

I am sitting here 10 pounds heavier than I was at the beginning of COVID. Where I am in my own journey is learning to accept that lovingly and not making my body a problem in any way. I'm naming this because I’ve been deep down that hole. We are coming up on International Women's Day, and I feel my hands shaking a little bit thinking about this pattern I see in myself, and in many women, to feel more or less valuable based on how we look. I want to speak to those of you who have also experienced some level of body shame from others or from yourself. We can have body shame about anything. It can be about our weight. It can be about our hair. It can be about our skin. Body shame is something that often starts from the outside. We get shamed by society and we internalize it. In an attempt to protect ourselves, we can begin to perpetuate the shame, the blame and the stories in order to have more control and be able to be accepted by others. We're not born into body shame. We learn it. We learn it from others and then we use those lies to break ourselves down from the inside out. So, what can you do? You can make choices about the types of thoughts you want to encourage in yourself. You can make choices around what you expose yourself to. You can choose to question these thoughts. You can choose not to spread them. These stories aren't yours. Stop telling them. Please share this with a woman who could benefit from hearing it. Share this with a man who could benefit from hearing it. Share it with anybody of any gender identity who could use a little more love for themselves today. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite tools that is useful in all areas of your life, regardless of if you are an executive, a formal people manager, or if you are in a family leadership position. ARCI is a tool that I teach to my executive teams when I'm doing executive team development and offsite training. It's a framework. It's a way of understanding the ‘who’ behind ‘who will do what by when’, which is the keystone of high integrity clear agreements.Integrity breaches are one of the most destructive forces in organizations, teams and families. When we don't do what we say we'll do, or when we create agreements that are vague, impossible to understand, ill-defined, or low integrity, this leads to a lot of drama. Unchecked integrity breaches create unhealthy forms of conflict and strife, and take up a lot of time and energy. ARCI is a framework for understanding, developing and tracking the structure of an agreement and how everyone involved is going to cooperate and coordinate action together. You can apply it to how a team generally operates. You can apply it to a process. You can apply it to a project. You can apply it to achieve a specific goal, and you can apply it to all different layers. With ARCI in your tool arsenal, you can start having breakthroughs in muddled situations in your work and home right away.See show notes and get free tools at AllowedPodcast.com.

So often, in life, you ask yourself questions like, “Is this the right path for me?” We think of it as an answer that's somewhere ‘out there’. But the next step is always the one that's right in front of you. You can get an inherent sense of your path just by asking yourself, “Am I in integrity?” Integrity is the through-line that runs through all of the conscious leadership work that we talk about on this show. It's one of the main goals. But what does integrity truly mean?As one of the most commonly chosen corporate value statements, integrity means that you do what you say you will do. But it’s also about wholeness and integration. Integrity means you're not leaving something out. It means that you are not unnecessarily dividing things into arbitrary categories. You're uniting through integrity and there's a strength to that. Integrity matters tremendously in your relationships with time, such as your plans for the future, or in the way that you experience, hold and understand your past. It matters in your relationship with other kinds of energy too, like money. How do you know when you have integrity? How can you move into integrity when you discover you're out of it? How can we make this an intuitive and real-time process that we can literally feel in our bodies when we are in integrity and when we're out of it? What is the path toward moving closer to integrity?See show notes and get free tools at AllowedPodcast.com.

One of the things that I often see is that it's easy to be grateful for things that seem really profound and important. It's not usually something we consider, to be grateful for that which we find most challenging. 2020 has been the year of challenges. However, these challenges have made us wake up and realize that it is now time to face these things which we did not want to face before. Finding gratitude within your challenges can be empowering and allows you to take back control of something that may have felt beyond your control.Flipping something that seems like an unwelcome challenge and looking for how this might be exactly the right thing for you right now can be hugely beneficial and spur both personal and interpersonal growth. Today, we are tackling one of the most commonly experienced ways to suffer that I have ever come across in all of my coaching work, and it is something called the Imposter Syndrome. The Imposter Syndrome is when you really feel like you are a fraud, and everyone might find out that you've been faking it this whole time, and that you aren’t qualified to actually do the job that you're doing, to have received the rewards that you're receiving, to be in the role or position that you're in, or to have the confidence, success, happiness, or ease that you currently have. I've worked with amazing leaders who still feel like they are an imposter, even if it is their fifth time being a CEO, and they've been a huge success every single time. So, if you are in a position right now, or you ever have been, where you have felt unsure of yourself, maybe self-critical or self-judgmental, paranoid, afraid that others can see through you, maybe you feel guilty or anxious about it or ashamed, or you might find yourself up all night long, or maybe you're indulging in overworking in an attempt to make up this deficit, the work to do around this is on a psychological level by questioning your own stories. In this episode, you can begin to unravel the stories that are leading to your own experience of the Imposter Syndrome by exploring some techniques and exercises I have found useful for my clients. Curiosity is always a tool that's available for you to use, and it's especially important when you feel like it's not okay that you don't know everything. That's the time when you most need it. Today, we dive into the concept of humans being made of many selves. There are a lot of different parts of you that, combined, make up your whole self. Each of these parts can be identified as a different persona with its own unique needs, fears, desires, personality and quirks. They even have their own heroes, role models and values.Often, when you get into inner-conflict or any kind of suffering, it’s because there are parts of you who are not getting along with each other. This is because they don’t trust each other, and there’s usually a pretty good reason for that. When you can identify your personas and resolve the conflicts between them so that they truly trust and rely on each other, you can find more peace, ease and confidence. In this episode, I show you how to begin unpacking your own personas so that all of your amazing and unique parts can begin to work together as a whole.See show notes and get the free tools at AllowedPodcast.com.

In this episode, we address a common misconception about being a Conscious Leader that we all may be contributing to in some way without knowing it.Have you heard someone say, "I was trying not to hero"? Have you ever said, "I try so hard to be present”? Do you "try so hard to stay above the line”? Are you often, “pushing yourself to not be in victim mode"? What do all of those statements have in common? One thing is they're referencing some way of being in drama or being below the line. The second thing in all of those statements are about the effort. It's all effortful. We have to push. We have to strain. It's not just that there's effort, but there's effort with some attachment to try and control an outcome. The common misperception of this work of Conscious Leadership is that there is a right or wrong place to be. It's okay to be above the line, and it's okay to be below the line. Neither one of them is good or bad, right or wrong. Neither one of them is better or worse. They're just different locations where you're going to have different experiences. When we are above the line, we’re going to be in a state of presence, ease and flow. We have access to a type of learning that is transformational in nature. Below the line, we’re focused on being right. Above the line, we’re in a state of trust. Below the line, we’re in a state of threat. Suffering is found below the line, but suffering is not bad – it is human. If you find yourself struggling to be conscious, this episode will help you move into a place of true acceptance of yourself and others, no matter where you find yourself at the moment.See show notes and get the free tools at AllowedPodcast.com.

My back and all of my skin were inflamed, my nerves ached down my legs, and I couldn't feel my feet. Every single thing I moved would make it hurt worse, and I got there because I wasn't listening to my body. I was listening to voices of self-judgment, and to this idea that I needed to be something that I wasn't in order to be what I thought I wanted to be, in order to have what I thought I needed to have. For me, it took two years of being in that program for my body to really start fighting back. This is a pretty common experience for those who are pushing themselves too hard, and often, the reason we do that is because we're living outside of what's called your Zone of Genius. Our stories are what keep us in suffering. We all have so many stories. Might there be a story about how things need to be different? How somebody should behave in a different way? How something in your life is not enough? Something in you is not enough? When our stories define us, they trap us. One of the practices of conscious leadership is to access greater influence, control, and power in our own lives, satisfy our own needs and create our visions by looking for alternate stories. So, in this week’s episode, we explore the fundamental invitation of Conscious Leadership, which is to understand the difference between a fact and a story. There are so many of us who really stand for change in the world. When we are standing in our own stories, it's very hard to enroll those whom we need to most influence in order to create that change we desire. As leaders, we can use our storytelling abilities to inspire and to motivate, but when we want to create a truly lasting change, we can speak unarguably in the language of facts. Collectively as a society, and as leaders, in particular, we have a shared responsibility to better understand what this group is going through, and to understand what we can do to challenge the system, to create the change we want, and to stand for reformations, acceptance, and empathy, and how can we reorganize ourselves in a way that is creative and from above the line. In this episode, we talk about specific tactical recommendations for both parents and leaders of working parents to maximize growth, improve communication, increase support, and optimize productivity, especially in remote working and remote learning environments. You may be one of those who is needing to be better understood, better supported, or you may be not part of this demographic segment and yet it's very important that we better understand what they're going through right now so that we can move into a place of greater awareness and we can make conscious choices as leaders about how we might adapt our approach to be more in service of that to which we are most deeply committed.See show notes and get the free tools at AllowedPodcast.com.

Dr. Caneel Joyce is the founder of Kickass Enterprises, a boutique consulting firm that helps startups and mission-driven innovators grow in smart, powerful, and sustainable ways.“It's a single player game. You need to solve a problem for one single person using your product alone. If you solve it for that person, other people will also have that value. And then you can start thinking about what will happen if everybody starts using that product together and how you'll change the world. But if no one person wants to use it, you'll never be able to do it.” ~ Caneel Joyce
