Surviving the Game (1994)Directed By: Ernest R. DickersonStarring: Rutger Hauer, Ice-T, Charles S. Dutton, A very undersized manBusey month continues, and this time he's more of a supporting character in that of Doc Hawkins, but Surviving the Game is his credited to Doc in the movie. Ice-T is a down on his luck mechanic who's been having a really downer on his luck tough time after his dog and friend die and he takes a job as a "survival guide" with no training. IMDB describes this one as: "A homeless man is hired as a survival guide for a group of wealthy businessmen on a hunting trip in the mountains, unaware that they are killers who hunt humans for sport, and that he is their new prey."We Also Talked About:Dark Side of the Cage: Diego Sanchez - The Fighter and The Guru (YouTube)Dark Side of the Ring: Mick Foley's Hell in the Cell (Amazon)Mick Foley and Undertaker Watch their Hell in a Cell Match (YouTube)Scream (1996) (Amazon)Celtic City (Amazon)Winning Time (Amazon)Bride of Re-Animator (YouTube)Vice Academy Part 2 (Plex)Like what you hear here? Send us a textAs we blast off into our 4th Season here at Fabulous Film and Friends, and with the recent release of Alien Romulus, we thought it only fitting to take a look at ALL the Alien movies, minus the execrable Alien v. Predator films, starting with 1979's Alien directed by Ridley Scott and starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Yaphett Koto, John Hurt, Veronica Cartright and Ian Holm followed by 1986's Aliens, directed by James Cameron and starring Sigourney Weaver again, joined by Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, Lance Henrickson, Carrie Ann Henn, William Hope, Jeanette Goldstein, Mark Rolston Al Matthews, and Paul Reiser. Then we get 1992's Alien 3 directed by David Fincer, starring Weaver once again, with Charles S. Dutton, Charles Dance, Ralph Brown, Pete Postelwaite, Brian Glover, Holt MccAllany, Lance Henrickson and a veritable slew of bald British day players yelling, "You bloody wanker!" Then there's 1997's Alien Resurrection directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet starring Ms. Weaver, Winona Ryder, Ron Perlman, Dan Hedaya, Brad Dourif, JE Freeman, Kim Flowers Gary Dourdan, Dominique Pinon and Michael Wincott. Then there's a long break in the actual franchise with the aforementioned cash-grabs Alien v. Predator films thrown in the mix and the series starts up again in earnest with 2012's Ridley Scott directed prequel Prometheus starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall Green, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall, and Guy Pierce. In 2017 we're treated to Alien Covenant, once again directed by Ridley Scott starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Cruddup, Danny McBride, Callie Hernandez, Carmen Ejogo, Guy Pearce, everybody's favorite prankster, Jussie Smollet and blink and you'll miss them cameos by Noomi Rapace and James Franco. Which leads us to 2024's Alien Romulus directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Callie Spaeny, David Jonsson, Isabella Merced, Archie Renaux, Aileen Wu, Spike Fearn and a posthumus Ian Holm. I'm your host Gino Caputi and the guests today are Burton Brown, David Johnson, DMD, Joe Field. With seven movies to cover we're going to get right into it, with one synopsis. Alien movies started off about a crew of space miners serving on the enormous mining vessel the Nostromo who while in cryosleep on their return to Earth with their minerals and ore in tow, are given orders to stop on the planet LV-426 to investigate a distress signal coming from a derelict spacecraft. While investigating the phenomena the crew inadvertently bring an alien on board their vessel. The Alien picks off the crew one by one and it is only warrant officer Ripley who survives by destroying the Nostromo and ultimately shooting the alien out into space. An internet meme sums it up thusly:Alien 1 - A team of miners faces an AlienAliens - A team of marines faces a lot of AliensAlien 3 - A group of convicts faces one AlienAlien Resurrection - A team of pirates face 5 AliensPrometheus - A team of scientists inadvertently create the AlienAlien Covenant - A team of colonists face a a lot of AliensAlien Romulus - A team of babyfaced Gen Z 'ers face  a lot of AliensWhich is Queen of the Hive? Find out!Watch the podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/gdZKUp7IM38

Jackson and Matthew McConaughey, with supporting performances from Kevin Spacey, Oliver Platt, Charles S. Dutton, Ashley Judd, Donald Sutherland, Kiefer Sutherland and Chris Cooper, “A Time to Kill” concerns the trial of Carl Lee Hailey, a black man on trial for capital murder after killing the two men who assaulted his 10-year-old daughter. When Jake Brigance, a white lawyer who previously defended Hailey's brother, takes the job to keep Carl Lee out of the execution's chamber, the small Mississippi town of Canton, where the film takes place, is plunged into chaos. Brigance and his team must navigate national attention, a skilled and ambitious prosecutor, and a revitalized Ku Klux Klan, willing, able and eager to derail the trail and stop Brigance by any means necessary. All the while, Brigance must handle the strain on his family and his marriage. The official tagline for “A Time to Kill” was: “A lawyer and his assistant fighting to save a father on trial for murder. On this week's show, we watched 1992's Alien 3 starring Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance, Charles S. Dutton, Paul McGann, and Lance Henriksen.  From director David Fincher, this third installment of the Alien franchise starts immediately following the events of Aliens (1986), where the survivors of LV-426 were headed back to Earth via the Colonial Marine spaceship, The USS Sulaco. Somehow, the Xenomorph queen made it onboard and laid 3 eggs before meeting her doom at the end of the previous film. Following a facehugger attack, our heroes (who are still in hypersleep) are jettisoned to a nearby planetoid; former maximum-security prison facility, Fury-161. After the escape pod crashes and its survivors are recovered, calamity ensues and it's once again up to Ellen Ripley to save everyone; even though it may cost her everything.  This is one of those movies with a production hellish enough that it might be more entertaining than the film itself.  Be sure to let us know what you think of the movie, and the podcast. Thanks and enjoy!

It's Die Hard in real time! The ticking clocks are everywhere (and so are the dodgy Christopher Walken impressions) as Phil and Liam discuss the 1995 high-concept thriller Nick of Time!  Mild-mannered accountant Gene Watson (Johnny Depp) arrives via train to LA's union station, with his young daughter Lynn in tow. Shortly after his arrival, he is apprehended by Mr. Smith (Christopher Walken) and Ms. Jones (Roma Maffia), who claim to be police officers. Smith then informs Gene that he has 90 minutes to assassinate the visiting Governor of California (Marsha Mason)…or they will kill his daughter. The guys discuss the potency of this compelling premise and unpack where the movie both succeeds and fails in the execution of its concept. They theorize that, not only is the film filled with ‘Die Hard DNA', but it also has its roots in Hitchcock, and the paranoid political thrillers of the 1970s. They offer their thoughts on the movie's own political point of view, its thematic ideas, and the intentions of director John Badham. We also get a glimpse into what really goes on inside Phil's secret ‘Die Hard on a Blank laboratory' (where his precious Blu-rays are kept into a fortified vault, protected by a time-lock).As they break down ‘the anatomy of an action movie', the boys discuss the unusual yet largely effective casting of Johnny Depp as a straight-laced everyman, rhapsodize over Christopher Walken's terrifying performance as the satanically evil bad guy ‘Mr. Smith', and talk about the rest of the supporting cast, that also includes the likes of Charles S. Dutton, Clark Johnson, Yul Vasquez and G.D. Spradlin. As the clocks tick down, the fellas race over to the ‘Die Hard Oscars' to hand out their action movie awards, and complete the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz…in the nick of time!NICK OF TIME trailer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cP1TllLDgQAt the time of release, NICK OF TIME is streaming on Hoopla and PlutoTV and is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple/iTunes, YouTube, Vudu, AMC On Demand and all the usual platforms!AMERICAN ENGLISH SOCCER PODCASThttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1652062 EYE OF THE DUCK PODCASThttps://eyeoftheduckpod.com/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/die-hard-on-a-blank/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

In "The Bittersweet Science" some guy is going around beating people to death because he could've been a contender, or his son is dying, or something. Charles S. Dutton guest stars in the episode. It's Season 7. It's terrible. You know the drill by now.

We're watching the Assembly Cut (an extra 30 minutes!) of Alien3 for our latest foray into the Alien franchise. This one takes place on a forced-labor penal colony inhabited by a strange religious sect of hyper-violent, hyper-male murderers, rapists, and scoundrels. But Ripley's not worried because Charles Dance, who's not at all creepy, is there. We struggle to make some kind of synthetic sense of this film, which has an extremely circuitous production history (which we discuss) making for a confusing but nevertheless fun viewing experience, and an even more fun talking experience. Never mind the names of the characters: they all look alike except for Charles S. Dutton and Ripley. One probably smells like garlic but he can't help it, and besides he's crazy. The Diad and Bedroth head back to the American South as they discuss their first foray into the world of John Grisham in the 1996 drama/thriller A Time to Kill - as always, from the dual standpoints of casual moviegoer and legal expert. The film, based on Grisham's 1989 novel of the same name, directed by Joel Schumacher from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, stars Samuel L. Jackson and Matthew McConaughey as, respectively, Carl Lee Hailey, a Black mill worker whose 10 year old daughter is raped by two white men on her way home from the grocery store, and Jake Brigance, the while lawyer who takes Carl's case after he fatally shoots the two men in the local courthouse. After taking Heiley's case, Brigance and his wife (Ashley Judd) and colleagues (Sandra Bullock, Brenda Fricker, and Oliver Platt) find themselves the targets of the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, summoned by the brother of one of Hailey's victims, Freddie Lee Cobb (Kiefer Sutherland), and must decide whether the risk of losing their reputation (and perhaps their lives) is worth the potential benefit of not only saving Hailey's life, but also of proving that a Black man can have a fair trial. The film also features Donald Sutherland as Lucien Wilbanks, a once-great civil rights lawyer and Jake's longtime mentor; Kevin Spacey as Rufus Buckley, the politically ambitious and experienced prosecutor; and Charles S. Dutton as county sheriff Ozzie Walls. Does the film stand the test of time? Does it hold up under legal scrutiny? Join us at the bar and find out! Charles S. Dutton's performance as Leonard Dillon in Alien 3 is one of those portrayals that seems almost star-crossed. With his thrilling speeches, deep humanity, and murky past, Dillon is a character who becomes more special the more time you spend with him—a character that makes us ask Big Questions, like what is redemption? Can you find it even after you've committed atrocities? Where do you search for hope at the Ass End of Space? Dutton, with his own troubled past and remarkable acting journey, brings such force and depth to this character that it's no wonder many of his monologues—the burial sequence, his "let's fight it" speech—have become beloved touchstones of modern science fiction. In this next installment in our ongoing 30th Anniversary of Alien 3 coverage, Jaime, Patrick, Christian, and Andie discuss this deeply complex character. We here at Cinema Degeneration have declared May 2022 "Rutger Hauer Appreciation Month!" Twice a week we'll be releasing a show diving into a different film from Mr. Hauer's catalog of 175 film and television roles all throughout the month of May. The late Rutger Hauer, who unfortunately passed away in 2019, was a consummate professional thespian, writer, director, and devoted environmentalist, amongst many many other things. He graced the silver screen in many amazing shockers and brilliant horror films, normally playing heavies and villains and was known for his intense yet subtle performances. His amazing talent truly knew no bounds. Starting off the festivities we bring you a review and deep dive discussion on the 1994 cult film "SURVIVING THE GAME" directed by Ernest R. Dickerson and co-starring Ice-T, Gary Busey, Charles S. Dutton and John C. McGinley. It's cautionary tale that explores what happens when a group a hunters go after the most dangerous game of all...humans! It is action packed and has one of the most intense monologues ever filmed.  Join our hosts Cameron Scott (Cinema Degeneration CEO) and Daniel Goad of CONDWG Films as they talk about one of their favorite Rutger Hauer films.  "Life's true pleasures are so unpredictable. I'd say cherish the moment for what it is. Observe your food, smell it, touch it, put your mind into it, and when you're finally ready, consume it slowly."
