State and US Government Shock, Police Officer Almost Killed. In an unexpected assault that transpired in Connecticut, Jill Kidik, a devoted officer with the Hartford Police Department, experienced a life-altering incident. Answering a disturbance call on May 17, 2018, in a downtown Hartford apartment, Officer Kidik found herself the target of a violent attack. The assailant, a resident of the apartment, left her unconscious after multiple stabbings in the neck and other parts of her torso. Alone during this distressing call, Officer Kidik was fortunate to have two courageous maintenance workers intervene, risking their lives to pull the attacker away and prevent further harm. The swift response from numerous members of the Hartford Police Department, alongside emergency personnel, played a vital role in ensuring Officer Kidik reached Hartford Hospital just in time. State and US Government Shock, Police Officer Almost Killed. After undergoing extensive surgery, Officer Kidik, though in stable but critical condition, encountered substantial challenges. A tracheotomy became imperative due to a stab through her trachea, leaving her unable to breathe independently. Despite these hurdles, Officer Kidik's unwavering determination fueled her recovery, enabling her to return home a mere 9 days later. This is Jill's second appearance on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast. In her the first episode, she talks more about the attack, it includes audio of the dispatcher and back up officers, and her immediate life after, prior to her retirement. You can listen to a special episode of that podcast interview here. State and US Government Shock, Police Officer Almost Killed. The ramifications of this brutal attack proved enduring, resulting in permanent physical impairments and subsequent retirement from the Hartford Police Department for Officer Kidik. In her account, Jill Kidik sheds light on the intricacies of her recovery journey, addressing the impact of both state and federal government policies that have added further complexities. State and US Goverment Shock, Police Officer Almost Killed. Beyond the physical injuries, Officer Kidik talks about the profound emotional and mental toll exacted by this trauma, affecting not only herself but also her family. Her narrative underscores the intertwined struggles of navigating both the psychiatric and legal aspects of recovery, revealing the intricate web of challenges confronted by survivors of such harrowing incidents. Today we open with the inflation number out from December 2023 and it's official! In the three years since Joe Biden has been president, you are paying 20% more for everything. We continue to read about middle class American's needing to put more of their expenses on credit cards, while trying to make both ends meet. Regardless of the Hunter Biden stunt, the Oversight Committee and the Judiciary Committee both voted to have him held in contempt of Congress. It now moves to the floor of the House for a full vote, likely next week. From there it will go to AG Merrick Garland and then we will see if we have a two-tiered system of justice. And, in honor of Hunter's cowardly retreat from Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA), we get a little ditty from my good buddy, Jim Gossett. Once again showing us the Left is always guilty of what they are accusing their opponents of, John Anthony Castro, the man behind bringing the lawsuits in 27 states to have Donald Trump's name taken off the ballot, has been arrested on 33 felony tax fraud counts. You can't make this stuff up! The Secretary of State in Connecticutt is encouraging voters in Bridgeport to show up in person. This is a reminder of the fallout from a suit brought in November showing obvious ballot-stuffing in dropboxes. Long-time listeners will remember that case from a few months back. And in a win for election integrity, a judge has thrown out a lawsuit in Ohio that claimed their new Voter ID laws were unconstitutional. Instead, the Clinton-era appointed judge said there was no burden placed on the voter. The Left loves showing us their soft bigotry of low expectations. Speaking of low expectations, the White House said they are conducting an internal review of communications related to the Lloyd Austion issue. Apparently we are to believe they have never thought of this before and need to know how to notify one another in the event of a possible emergency. Piers Morgan penned a fun piece in the New York Post when he wondered what Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and former president Bill Clinton might have been discussing when caught at a resort in Mexico. Morgan thinks it's all about Newsom replacing Biden before the DNC Convention later this year. As to Biden's campaign, apparently sources are saying they had an "off the record" scolding session for members of the Legacy/mainstream media for not carry the Democrats water more consistently. They even included spreadsheets showing where the media didn't do more to uphold the government narratives. DA Fani Willis has just be served papers to testify in the divorce proceedings of her appointed Special Prosecutor. The Big Fani Willis RICO case has definitely turned into the Big Fani Willis Realty TV Show and it's only going to get worse. Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA) has asked the governor of Georgia and the AG of the state to open a criminal investigation into Willis and this entire debacle. Finally, showing once again how DIE hiring practices are eventually going to lead to real deaths, I share a snippet of audio between an air traffic controller and a pilot with 15+ years experience. Lucky for us, the controller knows how to "Google" things related to flight instructions and safety. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. Police vs The Mob, Deep Undercover Truths. Special Digitally Remastered Episode. Disregard any ideas you may have about the realities of undercover police work, especially those shaped by Hollywood's depictions. Meet Lieutenant Ray Hassett, a retired police officer with 25 years of experience. His journey traversed the ranks from patrol officer to detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and even district commander in one of Connecticut's busiest police districts. Ray's experience goes far beyond the silver screen. He delves into the gritty world of deep undercover operations, facing the unvarnished truths of combating violent organized crime. During a three-year covert assignment, he infiltrated and dismantled a menacing organized crime syndicate. This wasn't just about going undercover; it entailed assuming a new identity, severing all ties with the police department, and confronting the very real skills, threats, and dangers lurking in the criminal underworld. Hassett's expertise extends to hostage negotiation, having received FBI training and serving as the Officer in Charge of the NHPD's Hostage Negotiation Unit since 2003. He's Crisis Intervention trained (CIT) and leads CIT officers in Connecticut, recognized as CIT Officer of the Year by the Connecticut Alliance to Benefit Law Enforcement (CABLE). Today, he continues to instruct police officers in de-escalation techniques, fostering improved interactions with the public and individuals in the mental health community. In addition to his local impact, Lt. Hassett's influence spans the globe. As a contractor for the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security, he imparts his wisdom on hostage negotiation and behavioral observation development to foreign police agencies in various countries, from the Middle East to the Philippines, India, Colombia, Tajikistan, Jamaica, and North Africa. But Ray's journey into law enforcement wasn't conventional. He began as a patrol officer in 1987, only to officially leave the force in 1990, adopting a new identity to work undercover in organized crime. In 1993, he rose to the rank of detective, tackling cases in the Narcotics Division, the Major Crimes Unit, and the Arson Squad. His dedication to community service led him to collaborate with The Yale Child Studies Program. This initiative brought together child psychologists and first responders, helping children affected by homicide and domestic violence. As a Fellow with the Yale Child Studies Center, Hassett spread this program to other police agencies in the region. In 1996, he ascended to the rank of Sergeant, serving as Acting District Commander of the Chapel/Dwight Police District after a brief stint as a street supervisor in Patrol. By 1999, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant and became the permanent District Commander of the Chapel/Dwight Neighborhood, one of the busiest police districts in New Haven. It was in this role that he excelled, implementing innovative problem-solving strategies and nurturing close collaborations within diverse and ever-changing neighborhoods, significantly enhancing the quality of life. Before his entry into law enforcement, Ray's life took an interesting turn. He was once a professional actor who toured Europe with his improv partner John Ratzenberger. His film credits include iconic titles like "Superman: The Movie," "Ragtime," "The Spy Who Loved Me," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Body Double." Interestingly, he often employs professional actors to simulate real-life incidents, aiding negotiators in better preparation for unit callouts. In essence, Lt. Hassett's career exemplifies the stark realities and multifaceted nature of law enforcement, particularly when confronting organized crime and the challenges faced by deep undercover officers. His valuable skills, combined with a commitment to community engagement and crisis intervention, have made a lasting impact on the law enforcement landscape. "I firmly believe that it's the little things we do that eventually add up to a happy life. I am not asking you to change everything about the way you live, but perhaps to reconsider a few details of your daily routine. Remember that joie de vivre is not revolutionary —but it is evolutionary." —Robert Arbor, author of Joie de Vivre: Simple French Style for Everyday Living Sixteen years French chef Robert Arbor released a book that offers a personal glimpse into his everyday routines which adhere to the French's simple approach to living well. With time split between living in Connecticutt and living in a country home in Flaujac-Poujol, France, with his wife and two sons, he shares how the secrets of the French are really quite simple when it comes to elevating the everyday. Yes, it took me far too long to pick up this book, but as soon as I did, his words were music to my ears as he too celebrates and revels in the everyday routines, cultivate seemingly simple rituals that are savored and deeply appreciated. A way of life that is inspired by his own upbringing in Fontainebleau, France, just outside of Paris. Many readers recommended Joie de Vivre: Simple French Style for Everyday Living and many readers have shared they return to read this book often to reminders of how to slow down and savor the lives they have worked so hard to have the opportunity to live. Joie de Vivre is a gem of a resource for reminding ourselves of the beauty of life - understanding that our lives are made up everydays is all we need to do to recognize and embrace a truly contented life. While I will certainly be picking up the book many times more in the future, having highlighted and annotated heavily throughout, I wanted to share 36 ideas Arbor shares in the book as an introduction to how grand the everyday can be, and how it truly is quite simple. ~Be sure to tune in and listen to the podcast episode and more discussion on each point is shared. 1.Breakfast - enjoy alone and make it nice or with a very close friend, someone you like - make it your personal time of the day. 2. Savor the buttery goodness of a croissant on weekend or for special occasions ~TSLL's homemade croissant recipe~ 3. Cloth napkins for everyday dining 4. Cultivate a routine you enjoy around your breakfast and morning "to give a quick thought to each day's potential". 5. Cultivate your own potager (vegetable garden) to "grow a few things to eat fresh". And only grow what you love to eat and share. 6. Disperse flowers throughout your potager, let go of perfection and separation. 7. Place your fresh, delicate vegetables and fruits (tomatoes, courgettes, most fruit) in a compote on the kitchen counter to be reminded to use them immediately (or very soon). "A big part of comprehending joie de vivre is understanding that enjoyment in day-to-day life is the true key to happiness. Finding happiness in small things means that ordinary days are filled with pleasures rather than obligations. Joyful anticipation of life's everyday events is part of bringing joie de vivre into your home in a lasting way." 8. Grow your own garden of herbs 9. Make food shopping enjoyable - visit a special shop, a farm stand or make it a social engagement. 10. Enjoy good, seasonal food and revel in it. 11. Welcome cheese into your eating regimen 12. Regularly frequent le marché in your area when available "Great food and ingredients can be found anywhere. One just has to make more of an effort and decide on a lifestyle choice about the quality of the food." ~All You Need to Know About the Markets in Provence 13. Make the kitchen the center of the house, but it need not be state-of-the-art. 14. No need to spend a lot of money to have a pleasant workable kitchen - regular height chairs, let go of the high stools, so you can relax and enjoy conversation - sitting back, etc. Only purchase the equipment you will actually use and buy quality items that will last. Here are a few ideas: 3-4 pots with lids, a cast iron skillet (keep it seasoned), a teakettle on the stove for boiling water, a Dutch oven or cocotte, but again, only tools you will need for the food you and your household enjoy eating. ~Why Not . . . Use Simple Changes to Transform Your Kitchen? 15. Have the basic cooking utensils stocked in your kitchen so no matter what the season, you can make what you enjoy: 3 sharpened knives (paring, chef's and serrated), 2 cutting boards, earthenware jugs full of different wooden spoons and spatulas, a stainless-steel spoon and 8-oz ladle, perforated stainless steel spoon, tongs, a whisk, 3 graduated mixing bowls, a fine mesh strainer, hot mitts, a hand-cranked can opener, cork screw, cotton kitchen towels, and a scale, measuring cups and spoons, rolling pin if you are a baker. ~A Cook's Kitchen (necessary utensils) ~A Baker's Kitchen (necessary utensils) 16. A well stocked épicerie (pantry) with top-grade items (In TSLL's 2nd book, an entire chapter breaks down how to step into your kitchen and enjoy the everyday meals) 17. Tidy your kitchen as you go to make the space a place you enjoy stepping into each time. 18. Lengthen and deepen (full and satiating) your midday meal as much as possible. "This is a time for stepping away from your work — even if you are eating with your coworkers—and talking and thinking about something else . . . Whatever the company, the conversation is always pleasant and positive. And that, naturally, adds to the pleasure and anticipation of lunch. It is a real break from the rest of the day. Le déjeuner is not about using time, it is about taking time." 19. Enjoy a picnic and make it comfortable "I do love a picnic in the French style, which, of course, means comfort, comfort and more comfort. First of all, a French person is simply not going to eat on the ground. Although we might lounge around on a blanket later, it is much butter to eat sitting up." 20. Reserve Sunday to enjoy a big Sunday lunch, focusing on pleasure rather than obligation. 21. And grab that nap after the lengthy lunch to add regular moments of rejuventation . "Remind yourself that sometimes the best ideas and solutions rise to the surface when you're not thinking so hard." 22. Grab an afternoon break regularly with la pause gourmande to give yourself a treat - "a treat with a purpose" and offer the perfect solution to the "afternoon blahs". 23. Enjoy dinner in the dining room regularly and offer the opportunity for everyone to contribute (whether by setting the table, etc.) somehow. 24. Unwind after dinner with a little dessert treat (nothing too grand), and partaking in something you enjoy on your own or with others so that you can go to bed happy and content. 25. Share dinner with friends with a casual dinner party - only invite people you truly like and don't "overstretch yourself". ~10 Ideas Gleaned & Confirmed from My last Dinner Party, episode #235 26. Create a warm and inviting atmosphere, which means you need to be able to be relaxed and enjoy the evening as well. The goal: good food, good conversation and good fun. 27. Begin with apéritifs - small nibbles and drinks. 28. Have very small groups of flowers on the table to create a welcome, but not cumbersome table to sit around and enjoy the meal. 29. Add candles to the dinner table either in glass hurricanes, or small tea lights spread around the tabletop. 30. Add a low volume lyric-less music to the background, as the conversation amongst friends is the best music. 31. Enjoy cheese and a vinaigrette dressed salad course after the main course prior to dessert. 32. Add water to the meal to be enjoyed while enjoying glasses of wine with each course. 33. Dessert need not be homemade when you have a favorite local patisserie. 34. Savor the winding down at the end of the day and do not skip this important part of each day. Cultivate a pleasant ritual, perhaps a different one for each season. 35. Make lavender-scented linen water to add an inviting scent to your bed linens. 36. Enjoy a good night's sleep "Americans are fascinated with how the French manage to live so well, and so contentedly, in their ordinary, day-to-day life. It's not just about cooking, decorating, or entertaining — it's about enjoying all the small details of domestic life." —Robert Arbor May your everydays be full of simple pleasures and moments of joy as well as you remember how extraordinary your life already is at this very moment. ~Order Robert Arbor's book Joie de Vivre: Simple French Style for Everyday Living ~SIMILAR EPISODES/POSTS from THE ARCHIVES YOU MIGHT ENJOY: ~14 Ways to Eat Like the French —Savor Good Food, Don't Fear It, episode #175 ~20 Ways to Incorporate Your Love for the French Culture into Your Everydays, episode #144 ~The French Way: How to Create a Luxurious Everyday Life, episode #23 ~View all French-Inspired podcast episodes here Petit Plaisir ~Call My Agent (Dix Pour Cent) https://youtu.be/RvM0ZrxBwFU ~Images: TSLL Instagram (@thesimplyluxuriouslife)

Jim Enck, our local American, from Memphis, Tennessee though born in Connecticutt, pronounced Con-net-ee-cut. I laugh at my own jokes, and sound exactly like my father did, which sounds insincere and coming from nervousness. I hope it isn't. With the lovely Lisa Moyle and Leanne Bower.   The first episode of Survivor Redemption Island is just days away now. Can you match a name to a face for any of the new castaways yet? We've got just what you need to get familiar with them all. We start by listing our first impressions of each player, and try to predict how well they'll do in the game. This is Part 2 of our "Judge a Book by its Cover" show. Thirty three fans, just like you, recorded their perspective on the new cast including their choice of favorites, who's most likely to get voted out first, make the merge, make a comeback via Redemption Island as well as who has what it takes to win it all. We want to thank and acknowledge everyone who contributed to another great JABBIC show. This week we heard from: Saundra, Fancy, Windy & Erica, JP, Alice, Brad, Samantha, Carol, Brandon, Marc, Sandi, Maria, Kathy, Tyler, Eric, Aaron, Elizabeth, Iron Dave, DrewG, Griffin, Ryan, Doug, Matt, DrewT, Lil' Russ, Ian, Doreese, Tanwen, Jeremiah, Kimberley, Michael, Dee Dee and Paul.   With the shuffle behind us and the surprise ousting of Tyrone, there was no loss of topics to discuss this week. There was little mercy for Marty and NaOnka, but they both still have their fans too. There seems to be a consensus building about the future of the original Espada tribe members even though the tide has turned for two that were on their way out. Ancient Voices 21 is out in iTunes as part of the new Survivor Themes Volume 2 collection. While perhaps not up to par with the prior three, the general consensus was that this was an enjoyable episode. Jaison was recognized by many for several smart moves. Several folks acknowledged that John did the best he could when so outmatched. Shambo appears to have lost some of her luster as she was described as "nuttier than squirrel poo" and has "kanagaroos loose in the top paddock". As always, we enjoyed hearing all your analysis and predictions for episode 13 and the pending double elimination.
