Tess Taylor, President of the National Association for Record Industry Professionals, has even dubbed my style as “Beastie Boys for Babies” – a blend that's as fun for parents as it is for kids. Since Hendrix's birth, I've committed to producing an album each year (until Hendrix gets old enough to tell me to stop cause I'm embarrassing him:)) – a journey filled with funky, hard-rocking, hip-hoppin' tunes and relatable, hilarious stories I'd love to share with your audience. My work ranges from lively tracks like “Trash Truck,” “No Shirt Like My Daddy” “Mama's Gonna Love It,” “Sippy Cup,” “Phantom Poop,” and “Daddy Werewolf,” all available on Spotify and wherever anyone streams their music. Just this year, I was invited to join the Recording Academy as a voting member. In the future I'll submit my own albums for Grammy consideration in the Best Children's Music category. Beyond music, I'm a coach specializing in creative performance and leadership, helping creative entrepreneurs turn their visions into reality and bring their biggest ideas to life. I have a PhD in Positive Psychology from Claremont Graduate University, where I studied under Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the renowned author of “Flow.” Creative Parenting is a passion of mine - I've written a guide for parents on how to ignite and develop their kids' creative superpowers. Children are born curious, but they often hit a “curiosity cliff” around age 7, when their natural wonder begins to decline. In this episode, Amy and Sara sit down with Patrick Miles, Innovation Strategist at Chick-fil-A Corporate and a WinShape Homes foster parent, to explore how parents can nurture their kids' curiosity. Patrick shares why curiosity is essential for our children's future and how it equips them to solve the world's challenges. Together, they discuss practical tips for making our mundane daily rhythms into problem-solving, innovating moments our kids can build on. Patrick also explains how simple family activities can turn everyday moments into opportunities for innovation and growth. On today's episode, Rebecca Minor joins me to talk about Gender Creative Parenting: What Is It Really?Rebecca delves into how parents can embrace and support a gender creative approach, allowing children the freedom to explore, play, and express themselves without strict adherence to gender norms. We clarify common misconceptions, emphasizing that gender creative parenting doesn't necessarily involve using they/them pronouns for your child; rather, it's about fostering an environment that celebrates all forms of expression. This conversation offers valuable insights for parents interested in nurturing their child's individuality in a supportive and open-minded way.Rebecca MinorWebsite:www.genderspecialist.comInstagram:@gender.specialistOfferings: Download Terms:Download TermsHow To Talk To Kids About Gender Course: Learn MoreOther Notes: Book list: https://socialjusticebooks.org/booklists/early-childhood/gender/Course: genderspecialist.com/Learn (comes with STACKED resource list)Blog on toys: https://www.genderspecialist.com/blog/should-i-buy-gender-neutral-gifts Ready to curate your perfect postpartum plan? When mistakes are judged, shamed and connected to child's worth + belonging (conditional teaching):✔️Kids learn to feel shame when they naturally struggle✔️Kids learn that conflict is binary: good/bad, right/wrong✔️Kids hold in their feelings + needs out of fear of shame✔️Kids are more likely to lie, blame, + defend to feel safeWhen mistakes neutrally explored and NOT connected to child's worth + belonging (unconditional teaching):✨Kids learn to feel safe when they struggle and grow✨Kids learn that conflict can be a safe place to learn✨Kids learn their + others' needs + feelings matter✨Kids are more likely to communicate, empathize + innovateGah! We're all trying to give ourselves grace, patience and love for all the “messing up” we're doing as adults + parents. ✨Can we try to extend those same things to our kids as they learn and grow, too?Rather than instinctually repeating the inherited phrasing that was passed down to us from generations before, we give you permission to lean into your kids' learning moments with the very skills you hope to teach them: curiosity, empathy, humor + innovation — a concerted effort to focus on the NEEDS vs the BEHAVIORS.Need a little support? Should we believe that using consequences, threats, shame, isolation etc. is the best way to teach + prepare kids for adulthood? NO! Today's Q&A explores how we can bravely work to believe that our kids grow best from our CONNECTION, not our CONTROL. We loved connecting with Rachel of the 3 in 30 podcast about supporting our older siblings when a new baby comes into the family! From Rachel's show notes:For all you mamas of one out there, what do you envision when you imagine adding a second baby to your family? And for all of your mamas of multiple out there, what do you remember about adding a second baby to your family? My guests on the podcast today are Hannah and Kelty, the twin sisters and founders of the parenting movement Upbringing. They said this to me and it resonated so deeply that I just had to write it down. Kelty said: “I thought [adding another baby] would mean more love, more snuggles, more squidgy little feet, more laughter, more connection. And it definitely did add all of that! But I didn't realize all the other more things that would happen. More crying, more anxiety, more stress, more messes, more juggling, and more divide and conquer existence with my partner…” Doesn't that sound about right?Adding a new baby to your family, whether it's your first baby or your fifth, always comes with a lot of emotions and change--all the highs and lows! And that is why today's guests Hannah and Kelty are so passionate about helping families to ease this transition and why they have created an online course called Right From the Start, which supports parents during the first year of a baby's life. Our Right From The Start baby video course and community is now OPEN for enrollment! What is gender creative parenting? It's a lot of things according to Dr. Kyl Myers, author of "Raising Them: Our Adventure in Gender Creative Parenting"; it's not a one-size-fits-all approach. Most broadly, it's a parenting philosophy that encourages kids to grow into their gender than be assigned one at birth. Dr. Myers explains what this looks like in every day, why some people chose to adopt this parenting style, how it can help eliminate gendered oppression later in life, and more.
