Once again we've come to the end of another series and once again we're going to end with our popular Q&A session. Thanks for listening and joining us on board the Dream Boat this time round. We love having you here and enjoy reading your thoughts and questions.   Dave pops back on board to join Laura for the wrap up and they tackle some great dream themes in this session, including toilet dreams and funeral dreams, discussing their psychological implications and the importance of ‘letting go' for personal transformation. Whereas toilet dreams can reflect bodily needs or deeper psychological issues, funeral dreams signify the need for ritualistic closure and rebirth.   They discuss how dreams can serve as a reflection of unmet needs in waking life and how the process of letting go can be both challenging and necessary for growth, leading to deeper self-awareness and emotional processing.   They also address the impact of intense dreams on sleep quality and the significance of sleep hygiene and mindfulness in achieving restful sleep. Laura discusses mindfulness techniques from her book Nine Steps to a Mindful Life Without Meditating which can help calm the mind before sleep.   Laura's book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nine-Steps-Mindful-Without-Meditating/dp/0995488908   END OF SHOWNOTES   Your dreams are worth inquiring about too! What happens at the intersection of dreams and consciousness? In this conversation, Laura is joined again by Maria to explore the profound notion of one very powerful question: WHO IS THE DREAMER. Their guest to help dismantle this philosophical dream knot is Dr. Newton Kondaveti, of Quantum Life University near Hyderabad in India. Dr Kondaveti shares his insights into the relationship between dreams and consciousness, the significance of lucid dreaming, which can pinpoint the path to a higher awareness. He also considers the concept of the Akashic records, a cosmic library or energetic archive of all universal events, thoughts, words and emotions. They discuss how dreams serve as a tool for self-discovery and can alleviate suffering.  Dreams contain hidden dimensions of our existence with dreams revealing hidden dimensions not accessible in waking life, as well as providing insights into past and future experiences.   Dr. Kondaveti discusses his work at the Quantum Life University (QLU), emphasizing the importance of understanding dreams in the context of spiritual science and personal growth and the university's aim of blend spirituality with scientific understanding.   QLU is on qluglobal.com Insta:qlugobal Youtube.com/qluglobal   END OF SHOWNOTES   Your dreams are worth inquiring about too! “Nutrition has a branding issue – it's about so much more than nutrition - I'd rather call it ‘super development', the art of bringing together different areas of expertise for a tailor made policy for a given problem in a given context.” Listen to fascinating ‘behind-the-scene' insights from Brieuc Pont, Special Envoy on Nutrition and Secretary General of the Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit to be held on 28-29 March in Paris, France. Career diplomat and Secretary General of the N4G Summit Brieuc Pont shares his challenging journey to ‘peak summit', in this latest podcast in our “More - and better - financing for nutrition” series. How has he been making the case for ambitious policy and financial commitments and action from political leaders ahead of N4G 2025? “Diplomats act as bridge-builders – we need to understand the technicalities of a particular issue after discussions with experts, then package this as a political process and bring it to a decision-making level”. N4D's directors ask Brieuc about:his hopes and expectations for the summit;the positive experiences and challenges he has experienced in the summit build-up;which arguments have worked in convincing decision-makers to prioritise nutrition investment in such challenging times; what are the financing alternatives in the light of USAID's suspended budgets;and how the sector can keep momentum going in between summits?Tune in to hear Brieuc's views on what the nutrition sector needs to do to improve its “branding” – as the most cost-effective development policy, with the highest return of $23 for every $1 invested. Adapting to new realities at a time when many high income countries are reducing aid means mobilising new investment partners – including development banks, such as the Asian Development Bank that pledged US$3 billion at COP26.“We need to push for integrating nutrition at the highest political level among national institutions. N4G 2025 is an opportunity for raising the profile of nutrition among politicians and for transforming the way we ‘do' development.”Please join the debate! ATNI is not funded by the private sector but acts as a broker to strengthen principles of engagement for working with the private sector, which delivers more than 90 per cent of our food. Which fiscal policies work in subsidizing ‘good' food and taxing unhealthy food? How can nutrition increase its share of the ‘social' part of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) investing? What can countries do to ensure the right balance between Big Food companies and national small to medium enterprises (SMEs), including small scale farmers, in low-to-middle income countries? How can food companies, especially multinationals, be incentivized to reformulate products? What can governments do to support healthy food chains? Laura and Melinda run through the power of these ancient rituals before Laura interviews Sarah Janes about her fascinating work in this area.   Sarah Janes talks about how she became fascinated by the power of dreams during childhood and what led her from jettisoning her career as a US show promoter to become a specialist in ancient dream cults through the development of her work at Dream Mysteries.   Laura and Sarah discuss the beauty of Epidavros and how its magic is spell binding, especially wrapped around the myths and practices of the Greek healing God Asklepios.  Sarah Jane reveals how retreatants are often called by the God himself in dreams to come out to the sanctuary and how they find her online after such a dream. Laura discusses how the God turned up for her once in a spiritual workshop before she became a psychotherapist which led her to visit the site at Epidavros and, like Sarah Janes, the visit felt like a powerful ‘coming home'.   Sarah runs through what the retreatants will find at the temple and how the group will try out sleep hypnosis, purification practices, sound work and dream theatre work, in similar ways to the ancients who experienced dreaming there thousands of years ago.   The two dream researchers also look at a similar incubation project in a recreated oasis in the Egyptian desert and the links between the ancient Egyptian dream incubation practices with the cult of Asklepios in the Ancient Greek and Roman worlds.   *If you want to join them in May the Retreat Link is here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/divine-dreaming-retreat-in-greece-tickets-1236007895889?aff=oddtdtcreator   Your dreams are worth inquiring about too! Meera highlights key messages from the framework, including the US$30 billion per annum required for nutrition (significantly higher than 2017's estimate) – and that every dollar invested in nutrition brings a return of $23.N4D's directors quiz her on making the case for innovative financing, how countries can more effectively advocate for domestic funding, and how global systems such as the SUN Movement can support country-led approaches for financing. In this festive conversation, Laura and Melinda are joined by author Lucinda Dickens Hawksley, Dickens' great, great, great granddaughter to explore the profound influence of Charles Dickens on Christmas traditions, dreaming and the cultural significance of his work, particularly 'A Christmas Carol.'    They delve into Dickens' complex relationship with sleep and dreams, which is often explored in his novels with their themes of redemption and social responsibility, and his bizarre sleeping habits. Dickens suffered from parasomnias – sleeping disorders like hallucinations and nightmares, which are the hallmark feature of ‘A Christmas Carol' when the ghost of Marley terrorises his business partner Ebenezer Scrooge in his sleep on Christmas Eve, with dramatic consequences.   Lucinda, biographer and Victorian historian, shares insights into Victorian Christmas celebrations and personal traditions, emphasizing the importance of connection and joy during the holiday season. They discuss the enduring legacy of Dickens' storytelling and its relevance in today's world and Lucinda's new book, ‘A Victorian Christmas' as well as her earlier book ‘Dickens and Christmas'.   Your dreams are worth inquiring about too! In this episode, Felix Phiri, who until recently played a lead role in the Government of Malawi coordinating multisectoral nutrition actions, highlights how leadership from the Office of the President helped accelerate progress across sectors towards national nutrition targets and how progress has been slower when this high-level political leadership has not been present. He explains how nutrition officers and budget lines were integrated into sectors and at local authority level increasing capacity to scale up multisectoral interventions. The role of parliamentarians and civil society in promoting and sustaining the required political commitment is another key message. Kelly Bulkeley and Sheldon Juncker have been instrumental in creating and training Elsewhere to interpret dreams, and they come aboard the Dream Boat to discuss the intersection of technology and dreaming, specifically the use of AI in dream interpretation. To celebrate World Lucid Dreaming Day (12 April), we're replaying our interview with Robert Waggoner, a leading expert on lucid dreaming. One of the world's top lucid dreamers, Robert Waggoner, joins Dave and Laura for a fascinating journey into the often so-called “rare” dream state of lucid dreaming. But as Robert will show, it's not that rare for some people, and you can try it too.     Author of Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self and Lucid Dreaming Plain and Simple (with Caroline McCready), Robert shares how he has had over a thousand lucid dreams since he discovered he could do it whilst at high school in the US on reading Carlos Castaneda's books about Don Juan. We hear what he has learned from his lucid dreams, from tips on becoming lucid in a dream to answers to some of his questions about the nature of consciousness, which he started to explore once he got bored with flying and walking through walls in his dreams. It turns out there's more to lucid dreaming than manipulating the dream reality, more than wish fulfilment, and certainly more than making yourself more productive.  We look at the history of research into lucid dreaming. What is lucid dreaming, according to Robert Robert's own techniques and how to try this out for yourself. Lucid games of flying, walking through walls and having sex. How to stay lucid and not wake up.  The impact of the film Inception on Lucid Dreaming Neuroscience studies on the state Robert's own principles of Lucid Dreaming and its gateway to the deeper state of amazing spiritual experiences and being connected to a larger awareness. For the Dream of the Week, Robert also shares his lucid dream in which his mother-in-law returns from the land of the dead with an important message for him.  Mentioned in this episode: Lucid Advice website (lucid-dreaming-advice.com) Lucid Dreaming Magazine (Luciddreamingmagazine.com)         Let us know what you think, and submit a dream for us to explore on the podcast!  Instagram @thedreamboatpodcast FaceBook @dreamboatpodcast Twitter @dreamboatpod DRI website: driccpe.org.uk/contact  This podcast is a project of the DRI, the centre for dream studies at CCPE, the psychotherapy college overlooking the canals at London's scenic Little Venice. Dream Answers to Dream Questions! A 14-year-old boy who was curious about his dreams asked two questions before going to sleep: “Can you dream in colour or in black and white?” And, “Do you need light to dream?” Laurel and Hardy helped bring answers that night, and those answers were unequivocal, funny, and meaningful, and a few decades later Damien Moore has come on the podcast to talk about that experience and some of his other fascinating dreams. Those familiar with The Dream Boat Podcast will know that in each series we have a “Dream Lab” episode in which we invite two dreamers to share a dream that we then discuss from different angles to see how it relates to the dreamer's life and what kind of meaning can be found in it. We always enjoy talking about those dreams, and people seem to enjoy listening to them, so for Series 3, we're expanding the format. In the last episode we heard about Yas's recurring dream of losing her children on the train, and its resolution. This week Damien's dream sparks a conversation about colour and humour in dreams, lucid dreams (Damien has had many lucid dreams) and the nature of consciousness itself. Laura and Dave explore the images and symbols of Damien's night-time world using Freudian, Jungian and other psychological and philosophical frameworks. As ever, whatever ideas and interpretations may be discussed, the dream always belongs to the dreamer, and Damien is a thoughtful and wise guest who has reflected deeply on his dreams. Yas Floyer is a journalist and mother, and like any mother she worries about her kids (maybe with more reason that some people). So Yas brings the latest iteration of a long-recurring maternal anxiety dream into the Dream Lab to discuss it with Laura and Dave.  We always get lots of questions about recurring dreams and how they evolve over time, so this is an opportunity to talk about recurrence, anxiety dreams, and what allows us to eventually let them go. Those familiar with The Dream Boat Podcast will know that in each series we have a “Dream Lab” episode in which we invite two dreamers to share a dream that we then discuss from different angles to see how it relates to the dreamer's life and what kind of meaning can be found in it. We always enjoy talking about those dreams, and people seem to enjoy listening to them, so for Series 3, we're expanding the format and spending this whole episode talking about Yas's dream of losing her children on the train (and the more recent resolution of that gut-wrenching scenario). Our second dreamer, Damien, will be featured in the next episode. In this episode, we discuss the literal interpretation of the dream, looking at the real-life trauma behind it, and the natural worries of a mother watching her kids grow towards independence. We also look at the symbolism of trains, treacherous descents, and the dramatization of separation anxiety, using Freudian, Jungian and other psychological frameworks to guide us. As ever, whatever ideas and interpretations may be discussed, the dream always belongs to the dreamer, and Yas has plenty of insight of her own.   Let us know what you think, and submit a dream for us to explore on the podcast!
