From the grind of early wrestling days to the creation of one of the most iconic characters in sports entertainment, this episode is pure gold for wrestling fans and comedy lovers alike. The Undertaker opens up about his unlikely path from college basketball to the squared circle, the wild meeting with Vince McMahon that birthed his legendary persona, and what it was like to rise through an era dominated by Hulk Hogan and other larger-than-life characters. He and Tom trade road-war stories, comparing the life of a traveling comedian to that of a pro wrestler — the endless travel, the brutal schedule, and the weird adjustment of coming home after months on tour. Mark also reveals behind-the-scenes secrets of WrestleMania, his all-time favorite match with Shawn Michaels, and the brutal injuries (including being set on fire… twice) that came with three decades in the ring. Plus, he shares how he stayed committed to “living the character,” why he always wore black in public, and how he evolved The Undertaker over time to keep the mystique alive. They also discuss wrestling psychology, the art of storytelling in the ring, and the freakish athleticism of stars like Brock Lesnar, Kane, and Roman Reigns. From hilarious stories about stepping on teammates during basketball drills to heartfelt reflections on the fans who grew up with him, The Deadman proves he's every bit as thoughtful as he is intimidating. 2 Bears, 1 Cave Ep. 312 https://tomsegura.com/tour https://www.bertbertbert.com/tour https://store.ymhstudios.com Chapters 00:00:00 - Intro 00:01:09 - Wrestlemania 00:06:36 - I Wanna Be A Wrestler 00:17:17 - The Birth Of The Undertaker 00:31:26 - Injuries & Finding New Roles 00:42:40 - Big Strong Guys 00:47:35 - Shawn Michaels 00:56:17 - Novices 00:59:54 - Stupid Purchases 01:03:25 - Mike Tyson 01:06:57 - Wrap Up Learn more about your ad choices. Jay of the Dead'sNew Horror Movies presents… the 55th Edition of the world's greatest Zombie Movie Podcast — Dead Man Still Walking, starring Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop! In this fascinating and unexpectedly subversive episode, Dr. Bishop welcomes special guest Jay of the Dead to explore the surprising horror history of “The Purple Smurfs” (yes, those Smurfs!) and their uncanny place in zombie canon. This is a must-listen for fans of zombie cinema. Likely inspired somewhat by Richard Matheson's novel, “I Am Legend” (1954) — yet before George Romero's shambling ghouls — there existed a little-known, infected-zombie narrative within the Belgian comic, Les Schtroumpfs Noirs (“The Black Smurfs”) from 1959, later wisely adapted for American audiences in 1963 as “The Purple Smurfs.” What seems like a simple children's story reveals shocking thematic roots in infection, rage, and apocalypse, complete with an urgent race to find a cure. Dr. Bishop herein declares, “Yes, the Purple Smurfs are zombies.” Also during Episode 166 here, Jay and Kyle dive deep into both the original comic source material and the adapted, 1981 TV episode — part of a Halloween special featuring “The Haunted Smurf” as well as “The Purple Smurfs” — unpacking how the latter's infection narrative even precedes films like “The Crazies” (1973), “Rabid” (1977), and “28 Days Later” (2002). They discuss the sociocultural implications, from 1980s “Satanic Panic” anxieties to the comic's troubling racial undertones in its early form. Jay playfully speculates whether the story serves as a bizarre, STD cautionary tale — and even debuts his first-ever Horror trailer for The Purple Smurfs (1981) TV episode! As for Dr. Bishop's favorite color? You just might find the answer buried somewhere in this delightfully twisted episode of Dead Man Still Walking. Gnap! Gnap! Dr. Walking Dead also presents a popular segment called The Dead Zone on regular episodes of this podcast. For his Dead Man Still Walking solocast episodes, Dr. Bishop will focus exclusively on zombie films, with the occasional exploration of zombie-related themes, zombie television, and other zombie media (e.g., comics, literature, etc.). Dr. Bishop is an academic and professional scholar of zombie films and other zombie narratives. He has been teaching for 23 years. Everyone knows Rodgers and Hammerstein and the legacy that comes with their collaborations, but many forget the brilliance and heartbreak of Rodgers and Hart. The applause roars for one man while another slips quietly into the shadows. Fame and failure share the same stage tonight, divided only by a curtain call. That's the haunting pulse of “Blue Moon,” a story of creative partners colliding at the peak of one's success and the edge of the other's undoing. Over one fateful Broadway night, a composer stands in the light of his newest triumph while his lyricist drowns in the darkness just beyond the spotlight. It's a breakup told in music, memory, and smoke. On this episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo pairs conversations with Ethan Hawke & Richard Linklater and Andrew Scott, weaving their perspectives together on collaboration, rehearsal, and the human math of loving someone you can't fix.READ MORE: ‘Blue Moon' Review: Another Precious Pearl In Richard Linklater's Chronicles Of The Human Condition [Berlin]Nine collaborations deep, Hawke and Linklater's shorthand remains less code than continuum. Hawke said, "The changes are pretty invisible to me. It feels like one long collaboration, one long conversation." Linklater added, "I met Ethan in 1992. We went out later that night, we were at a bar, and we talked all night. We're still talking. That's what it feels like." Scott, reflecting on their dynamic, noted that the film itself “is about two people who've been through so much together that their chemistry almost becomes a language.”

This week's show starts of with Rachel telling us about the Door to Hell. Seems like a fitting topic as we approach Halloween. But what is it? The Door to Hell is also known as the Darvaza Gas Crater in Turkmenistan. It is a pit of fire that has burned for perhaps 50 years. It is the result of a drilling project gone horribly wrong. It reminds us a bit of the Burning Mountain in Australia from Episode 68 called "Dead Man's Fingers."  Victoria is up next with the strange fish the Arctic Char. We're likely watching speciation take place as this one fish species has an amazing range of sizes and behaviors. Due to the amazing number of "morphs" present, the Arctic Char has been called the "most variable vertebrate on Earth." Kirk wraps up this week's show with a bizarre creature feature, the Sea Squirt. This strange creature lives a double life and not even Rachel and Victoria suspect that it is actually not an invertebrate.    Join us weekly for more strange nature. Lionel asserts that Trump, whom he calls a genius, successfully created a deal that Hamas signed onto, leading to widespread happiness and rendering massive geopolitical sites and protests "moot". Lionel concludes with tactical advice on the crucial New York mayoral race, emphasizing that polls should never be believed. Lionel shares his intense personal history with voting, emphasizing that he loves to vote, but warns listeners to check the law before posting pictures of their ballot, as this is illegal in many states. The core discussion dives deep into the chaotic three-way race for New York City Mayor, focusing on candidates like Cuomo, Siva (Curtis Lee), and Mum Donny/Ma'am Danny. Lionel offers brutal strategic advice, particularly for Cuomo, stressing that he must stop re-hashing his past and instead focus on three things he will do for the city. Lionel emphasizes that a mayor is an administrator, responsible for handling garbage pickup, potholes, police, fire, and safety, not making statements about foreign leaders. Lionel dissects the real reasons people vote—they choose sides for visceral reasons, often based on where they grew up or what their father was, completely ignoring the issues. Explore why political labels like Democrat, Republican, Populist, or "white supremacist" are meaningless noise. Discover how politicians today must utilize social media and create memes, illusions, and manufactured realities like hiring people to wait in line to achieve political momentum. Lionel as he delivers sharp takes on current events including Donald Trump's potential "peace legacy" regarding Gaza and recounts the unbelievable, often absurd true stories from his early career working for a U.S. Senator. Lionel dives deep into constituent services, featuring tales of a man with blueprints for a nuclear bomb designed to turn the enemy into a pillar of salt, another with a patented anti-seagull poop paint, and the host's confession to stealing a political rival's campaign materials. Plus, a critical look at Bobby Kennedy Jr.'s focus on Tylenol, circumcision, and methylene blue. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In this dark and thrilling episode, I sit down with comics legends Matt Wagner and Kelley Jones to talk about their gothic team-up on a new Dracula graphic novel series — a fresh, nightmarish take on the Lord of the Undead that blends Hammer horror, classic literature, and modern comics craft. We also dive deep into their iconic Batman work. Matt Wagner reflects on his acclaimed retellings of the Dark Knight's formative years in Batman and the Monster Men and Batman and the Mad Monk, grounded updates of the original Detective Comics stories that shaped Gotham's early shadows. Meanwhile, Kelley Jones revisits his unforgettable Batman: Red Rain, a horror-infused Elseworlds classic that reimagines Batman as a literal creature of the night — a vampire battling Dracula himself. Plus: Kelley's eerie, emotional Deadman mini-series, their shared love of horror as mythmaking, and what it means to push iconic characters into darker, more psychological terrain. A must-listen for fans of Batman, monsters, and the art of gothic reinvention.

Curtis Jackson took his name from a stickup man – and then proceeded to play by that dead man's rules. This episode traces the violent legacy of the original 50 Cent and the rise of 50 Cent the rapper through his feud with Ja Rule, the Lorenzo brothers, Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff, and Murder Inc. Records. This is about how Curtis Jackson a/k/a 50 Cent became a rap king, despite a nine-shot assassination attempt that failed to kill the man—or the myth.
