This episode features excerpts from the February 8th performance of Dennis Hensley's The MisMatch Game at the Los Angeles LGBT Center's Renberg Theatre. The panelists are Danny Casillas as Reba Areba, Jackie Beat as Bea Arthur, Sherry Vine as Rue McClanahan, Melissa Peterman as Rena Z., Felix Pire as Antonio Banderas and Tom Lenk as Tilda Swinton. The questions cover everyone from Jonathan Bailey to Betty White to Benson Boone. The evening was a bizonkers blast and raised over $4,100 for the Center. After the MisMatch Game clips, there's a super-sized So This Happened...where Dennis talks about the Oscar party he attended where he missed a trivia question about Centerstage, a delightful candle-making class he took at General Wax in North Hollywood, going dancing at the Kylie XCX night at Precinct hosted by past guests Mark Nubar and DJ Shyboy and attending the 25th Anniversary benefit screening of Coyote Ugly with most of the cast in attendance. It was true in 2000 and it's true today: you really can't fight the moonlight.

Here's the blurb from K's point of view: "So, I'm kinda fascinated with gay country and western bars, where people dress up in their finest cowperson garb, and square dance, two-step and mosey on down. This isn't something that I think is a thing in the UK, so it's just been a curiosity to me until now. But, luckily for me, Dennis Hensley – writer, performer and host of the podcast ‘Dennis Anyone?' took the time to tell me all about the etiquette, the ceremony, and the vibe that you'd find at Oil Can Harry's, a country and western bar in LA, which unfortunately closed during the pandemic. Along the way Dennis tells me all about his experiences fumbling with men-folk, feeling lonely at the club,, and how it felt the first time he saw two men dancing cheek to cheek." www.lostspacespodcast.com

Today we're catching up with Dennis Hensley and the hilarious card game that he co-created called You Don't Know My Life. If you've been listening to the bonus episodes of this podcast, you've been hearing a series of coaching sessions between Dennis and me where we've talked about his creation of the game and the tweaks and iterations that he and his partner, Jeb Havens, were making to it. Those coaching sessions ended just as they were figuring out how to raise the initial funds they would need to place the production order for their first batch of games. A lot of unpredictable things have happened between May of 2018 and now – including a global pandemic – and I think you will find this next chapter of Dennis' story fun and inspiring, especially if you are interested in bringing an idea for a physical product to market. ------------------------ Kristine's free online workshop: Creating Cash When Times Are Tough – watch the video or listen to the audio or read the transcript. Game co-creators Dennis Hensley and Jeb Havens also play. The questions they answer include: When was a time that you gave into peer pressure? What's a movie that you saw when you were way too young to see it? What's a character trait that you share with your mother? and What's a memorable theme party you threw or attended? What's the shallowest, quirkiest or most shocking reason you decided, 'No, I don't want to date this person?' About half the stories that come up could be turned into gay short films; there are college fetish parties, a b.j. that turns into prayer when a roommate walks in, hot guys with warts down there, moms telling off small town busy-bodies and much much more. This is a special episode and I'm not happy about it. The Peaches insisted we record this in order to clarify her position on the Dennis Hensley situation. (It's the previous episode.) As you already know, Pkarlgh, The Peaches doesn't put much stock in emotional responses and apparently, she was emotional during the last episode. I couldn't tell. I'm a great dad so I'm attending to my daughter's wishes and publishing this special podcast episode. (sheesh)

http://www.biblestudytools.com/romans/passage/?q=romans+5:6-11 (Romans 5:6-11) Sacrifice. What is so important in life to you that you would die to protect it or obtain it? Who is so precious to you that you would sacrifice everything to rescue them from danger? Love involves sacrifice. There are many examples of sacrifice. We think of an athlete who disciplines their body in the rhythms of life to maximize their ability in the designated sport. We think of a parent who sacrifices greatly to protect or improve the quality of life for their child. Or missionaries who leave their homeland, family, and comfort share the life-changing message of Jesus' love with another culture. On this particular weekend we think of soldiers who put their lives on the line to gain or protect our freedom. They might have even paid the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy our freedom. Today I want to talk with you about God's supreme sacrifice in offering Jesus to us, and Jesus' supreme sacrifice in going to the cross so we might be forgiven, reconciled to God, and live with Him by faith in a relationship of love. We know the verse, John 3:16 and 17, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life, for the Father did not send Jesus into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” In 1967, a man named Dennis Hensley wrote a fictional short story, which has been read and retold countless times. It is called, “The Railway Switchman and His Child.” “There was once a swing bridge that spanned a large river. During most of the day, the bridge sat with its length running up and down the river parallel with the banks allowing ships to pass freely on both sides of the bridge. But at certain times each day, a train would come along and the bridge would be turned sideways across the river allowing the train to cross it. A switchman sat in a shack on one side of the river where he operated the control to turn the bridge and lock it into place as the train crossed. “One evening as the switchman was waiting for the last train of the day to come, he looked off into the distance through dimming twilight and caught sight of the train lights approaching. He stepped onto the control bridge and waited until the train was within a prescribed distance, then he turned the bridge into position. However, to his horror, he found the locking control did not work. If the bridge was not securely in position, it would cause the train to jump the track and crash into the river. This last train of the day would be a passenger train with many people aboard. He left the bridge and hurried across to the other side of the river where there was another lever switch he could hold to operate the lock manually. He would have to hold the lever back firmly as the train crossed. “He could hear the rumble of the train approaching now. He took hold of the lever and leaned backward to apply his weight locking the bridge. He kept applying the pressure to keep the mechanism locked. Many lives depended on this man's strength. “Then, coming across the bridge from the direction of the control shack, he heard a sound that made his blood run cold. ‘Daddy? Where are you?' His four-year-old son was crossing the bridge looking for him. His first impulse was to cry out to the child, ‘Run! Run boy!' But the train was too close. He knew his tiny legs would never make it across the bridge in time. The man almost left the lever to snatch up his son and carry him to safety, but he realized he will not get back to the lever in time if he saved his son. Either many people on the train would die, or his own son must die. “He took but a moment to make his decision. The train sped safely and swiftly on its way, and no one on board the train was even aware of the tiny, broken body thrown mercilessly into the river by the onrushing train. Nor were they aware of the pitiful figure of the sobbing...

One of the most generous gifts you can give someone is listening to them. It's a habit that some people just never picked up. But others have refined it to an art form. My guest this week is Dennis Hensley, who you might know from My Life on the D-List, from Girls Will be Girls, or from countless celebrity interviews in just about every magazine ever. These days, among his many hats, he hosts a podcast called Dennis Anyone, where he interviews creative folks about their work; and he's also the host of The MisMatch Game, a live gameshow fundraiser for the LA LGBT Center. The next MisMatch game is coming up, on July 23 and 24, and I highly recommend the experience of seeing a bunch of celebrity-impersonating comedians running circles around each other. As an interviewer, a listener, and a host, Dennis sometimes disappears behind the glitter of the people whose talent he's showcasing. That's a problem he's always been happy to have, whether interviewing Carrie Fisher in her bed or Celine Dion in her limousine. But these days, Dennis' industry is changing, and he's faced with a new challenge: stepping out from behind the luminaries and standing in his own spotlight.

From Dennis: For this special episode, I'm skipping my usual interview format and presenting and audio performance of my recently completed pilot script of "Misadventures in the 213," based on my novel of the same name.  The script recently landed me a spot in the WGA West's Writers Access Program, which showcases writers from diverse backgrounds--I ticked the gay box--and touts their work to showrunners, producers, executives, agents and managers in an attempt to make TV writing rooms for diverse. I'm so excited and proud to be this program. 171 scripts were submitted. 11 writers made the final cut and of those, only two were comedy writers...and I'm one of them! Thanks to my wonderful and generous actor friends who lend their time and talent to the reading: Alex Wyse (Craig), Britt Logan (Dandy), Felix Pire (Miles), Jen Caldwell (Claudia), Danny Casillas (Ulysses), Maile Flanagan (Rhonda) and Matt Zarley (Nicky). Extra special thanks to Matt Zarley his recording and editing services. Hope you enjoy. To learn more about the Writers Access Project, visit http://www.wga.org/content/default.aspx?id=3436

One of the most beloved films featuring drag queens of all time is Girls Will Be Girls, where three actresses at various stages on the Hollywood food chain navigate the minefield of love, aging and ambition. The film features the raunchy ensemble of Coco Peru, Varla Jean Merman and Evie Harris, all drag queens who had separate careers but were brought together like Charlies Angels to create a dynamic comedy trifecta. We heard that after this photo was taken, Evie Harris had a three way with Shields and Yarnell. Photo by Dennis Hensley. The entire project was a way for openly gay TV writer Richard Day and his friend Jack Plotnick to vent their fRustrations as gay men working in Hollywood.Although Girls will be Girls was a hit with critics and audiences, the making of a sequel was cost prohibitive. Now, thanks to digital video cameras and fundraising tools like Kickstarter, fans raised the funds needed to create the apocalyptic sequel coming out next year: Girls Will be Girls 2012.Today we are joined by Jack Plotnick, the man behind Evie Harris sharing with us the anguished journey of actors in Hollywood trying to find meaning in their lives and the origins of Evie Harris, a washed-up, alcoholic, aging C-List actress.➤ What Coco Peru and Varla Jean Merman have to say about their co-star when she’s not around.➤ How being a sloppy drag queen got him working with Sir Ian McKellen on the Oscar nominated film Gods and Monsters.➤ Learning how to love acting and auditions as an actor.➤ And daily affirmations actor and trans folks can say to find the joy and purpose in life.
