LADY WRESTLER PRINCESS VICTORIA Professional wrestling career[edit] Otis was trained in Portland, Oregon, by Sandy Barr.[1][2] She feuded with another of Barr's trainees, Velvet McIntyre. The two women competed against each other in singles and tag team matches in Vancouver All Star Wrestling. National Wrestling Alliance (1980–1983)[edit] Both women continued their feud while working for NWA Pacific Northwest under promoter Don Owen. They eventually ended their feud and formed a tag team. The duo won the WWF Women's Tag Team Championship on May 13, 1984, in Calgary, Alberta.[3] World Wrestling Federation (1983–1984)[edit] In 1983, the World Wrestling Federation withdrew from the National Wrestling Alliance, and when McIntyre and Victoria rejoined the promotion in 1984, they were immediately recognized as holding the WWF Women's Tag Team Championship. The duo defended the championship against the team of Wendi Richter and Peggy Lee multiple times, including a match on April 23, 1984, in Madison Square Garden.[3][4] On September 1, 1984, Otis suffered a career-ending neck injury defending the tag team titles in Philadelphia.[5] The title she held was retired shortly thereafter. Desiree Petersen later replaced Victoria when she was let go from the WWF in 1984. While in the WWF, she also wrestled in singles matches as a challenger against WWF Women's Champion The Fabulous Moolah who was also responsible for training her, and booking her, which she discussed in detail while appearing on The Fabulous Moolah episode of Dark Side of the Ring. Retirement[edit] In 2012, Desiree Peterson and Princess Victoria managed pro-wrestler Rescue 911 (Christopher Annino) and Lady Liberty (Nikki Moccia) at a Showcase Pro Wrestling event in Clinton, Connecticut for Cystic Fibrosis awareness. Prior to her move to Washington Victoria lived in Virginia and volunteered her time at South Hampton County Animal Shelter. Otis is retired from professional wrestling and now resides in Washington.[6] In July 2016, Otis was named part of a class action lawsuit filed against WWE which alleged that wrestlers incurred traumatic brain injuries during their tenure and that the company concealed the risks of injury. The suit was litigated by attorney Konstantine Kyros, who has been involved in a number of other lawsuits against WWE.[7] According to her, due to WWE's lack of medical attention, she is fully disabled and sometimes has to use a wheelchair.[8] In September 2018, the lawsuit was dismissed by US District Judge Vanessa Lynne Bryant.[9]

The Recognized Symbol of Excellence, in Sports Entertainment!Host Ray Russell has a blast going back in time to 1986 in the World Wrestling Federation in order to analyze and dissect all the goings-on heading into the new year of 1987. This episode is LOADED with news, notes, background history, fun anecdotes, a deep dive into the ENTIRE WWF roster leading into 87, and yes plenty of SOUNDBITES for your listening pleasure! Some of the topics discussed on this episode of the Grenade include...VINCE MCMAHON'S PILLAGING OF THE MONTREAL TERRITORY - The WWF swoops in to take the remaining top stars of the Montreal territory including the Rougeau Brothers, Rick Martel, and Dino Bravo!THE HOT FEUDS OF 1986 - We discuss at length the hottest feuds of 1986 that carry over into the new year, including PIPER VS. ADONIS, SAVAGE VS. STEAMBOAT, AND HULK HOGAN VS. "MR. WONDERFUL" PAUL ORNDORFF! Plus, Ray discusses the Orndorff heel turn, the financial success of the Hogan/Orndorff feud on the house shows, the underlying Macho Man vs. Bruno Sammartino feud that came out of the Steamboat injury, Adrian Adoni's "firing" and rehiring in the midst of his feud with the Hot Rod, and so much more!HEEL REFEREE DANNY DAVIS - We document many of the concerning issues inside the ring with questionable referee Danny Davis throughout the fall and early winter of 1986. Jack Tunney would have to be blind not to see the shenanigans caused by Davis, and the worst is yet to come!ANDRE THE GIANT MAKES HIS TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO THE WWF! - We look at Andre's acromegaly, his "suspension" from the WWF, his stint in New Japan following WrestleMania 2, his return to the WWF as THE GIANT MACHINE, his time away to film The Princess Bride, and Andre's return to the company following a questionable hearing in which Andre wasn't a part of... but Bobby Heenan was!!! HmmmmmTHE HONKY TONK MAN TURNS HEEL - We discuss one of the shortest babyface runs in WWF history as the Honky Tonk Man arrives with support from the likes of WWF Champion Hulk Hogan, but the fans just aren't buying it. After losing a "Vote of Confidence" Poll with the fans, Honky finds a new attitude, as well as a new manager.SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT RESULTS FOR NOVEMBER 1986 - The WWF Champion Hulk Hogan is put to the test by Booby Heenan's most recent acquisition, HERCULES. Plus, Roddy Piper moves on from former bodyguard and best friend "Cowboy" Bob Orton, and a rare "Battle of the Heels" when IC Champion Randy Savage defends against tweener Jake "The Snake" Roberts!GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - A quick look at a couple of names who have recently departed from the company including Capt. Lou Albano and Big John Studd!NEWCOMERS IN 1986 - We run down the list of many of the talents who arrived on the scene in 1986 and discuss what they've accomplished this far and where they're at, headed into 1987. Ware, the formation of the Islanders tag team, The Rougeau Brothers, Blackjack Mulligan, Tom Magee, "Outlaw" Ron Bass, Brad Rheingans, Sika the Wild Samoan, "Ugandan Headhunter" Kamala, Dr. of Style Slick along with his protege "The Natural" Butch Reed, Ken Patera released from prison, Outback Jack taking QANTAS to the States. WHO WAS NEXT IN LINE FOR "THE NATURAL" CHARACTER IF BUTCH REED HAD BACKED OUT??WHAT PROMO GOT PRO WRESTLING BANNED FROM RAY RUSSELL'S BEDROOM TV???JIM NEIDHART'S TROUBLED PAST - What started out as research for the January 1987 arrest of Jim Neidhart following an alleged assault of a flight attendant, turned into an exposé of sorts on the legal troubles of the Anvil. While uncovering the full story of what took place aboard the U.S. Air Flight in 1987, I also uncovered several stories dating back to the 1970s including one of Neidhart leaping off a 4th story balcony with a Fire Extinguisher strapped to his back and swinging from 4 bed sheets tied together like Tarzan into a lower level apartment's plate glass window. Unbelievable! From there we look at Vince McMahon fronting Neidhart the money (and the attorney) to sue the Airlines, a case that Neidhart won (over $300,000 in 1991 money) and then refused to pay McMahon back! Crack is a helluva drug!WRESTLING INJURIES - PAUL ORNDORFF & THE DYNAMITE KID - We look at the knee injury of Dan Spivey and the broken toes of Jacques Rougeau before getting to the real meat of the Injury Stories leading into 1987. First, we take a look at the nerve damage to the neck and shoulder of "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, his refusal to take time off, and all of this leading to atrophy in his right arm. From there, we move on to the case of the Dynamite Kid, another man who was working with multiple injuries before they caught up to him one December night in Toronto. We discuss the temporary paralyzing back injury of Dynamite, the surgery that followed, and the ramifications that would plague him for the remainder of his wrestling career.WRESTLEMANIA III NEWS - We look at the initial plans to have WrestleMania 3 in three different locations yet again, what caused the decision to be nixed, and some of Dave Meltzer's guesses as to the matches on the big show, involving the likes of Mr. T teaming with Roddy Piper, a babyface return of Big John Studd, and Bruno Sammartino stepping into the ring to team with VINCE MCMAHON!!!WWF ON FOX - The fledgling Fox Broadcasting Company acquires the WWF on many of their larger city FOX affiliates, prompting all local affiliates to go with the WWF should they want wrestling programs on their station!HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD - Acting fever is in the air, all the way back in the mid-1980s. Everyone wants to be in the pictures including Jesse "The Body" Ventura, Ricky Steamboat, Big John Studd, and Hulk Hogan... brother!HERE & THERE - Random bits of news and notes discussing Roddy Piper's refusal to work the Pacific Northwest shots due to his loyalty to promoter Don Owen. Hot Rod no showing Fresno due to a High-Speed Chase with the law. The WWF putting the screws to JCP as they create their own Bunkhouse Battle Royals. The WWF adding a THIRD HOUSE SHOW every night, and much more!AND THEN THE FUN BEGINS!! PULL UP YOUR COPY OF THE WWF ROSTER!!!We've made it available on social media, Twitter, Facebook, Patreon.com/WrestleCopiaIt's the full 1986/1987 WWF ROSTER as we analyze and dissect over SEVENTY, that's 70 SUPERSTARS!!! This week, Chris Maitland is back to talk about the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame inductions of Jun Akiyama and Kenny Omega - particularly against the field of other Japanese candidates, his issues with the process, and how transparency could help some of the questions listed. Additionally, the pair have a chat about the recent AEW Brandi Rhodes promo, which leads to a run-in from Melissa, and her thoughts on two black women code switching on television, the Kenny Omega Jordan tribute and Melissa's feelings as a Duke alum and former cheerleader, and Melissa's view on how the book "The Namesake" could tie into professional wrestling, particularly with the realm of language brokering as a tool of linguistics. Rich returns and Chris finishes talking about wrestlers that he feels should have a higher profile, including Ted Turner, Don Owen, Caristico, Junkyard Dog, and Kerry Von Erich, and finish with newer inductees in 2021 that bear watching.

As it turned out the Saints were more than prepared to extinguish the Fire by a score of 85-47. Coach Hans along with Zoie Barth (https://twitter.com/zoiebarth) and Emily Simon (https://twitter.com/emily23bball) provide us with their postgame thoughts. Kris & David are joined by Beau James (@kingofkingsport) to discuss the week that was November 13-19, 1988. We talk about possibly the wildest story we've ever covered on the show, regarding federal extortion charges being brought in Hawaii against Lia Maivia and Lars Anderson, as well as how it all ended up at trial a year later, which is crazy in it's own right. We also talk about Dave Meltzer going on the road with the WWF for a couple of highly draining TV tapings in northern California, Giant Baba firing Ashura Hara from All Japan over gambling issues, Irv Muchnick interviewing Antonio Inoki for a Penthouse article that never ended up running, the British Bulldogs returning to Stampede, Scott Armstrong returning to Continental, Don Owen getting shut down by the Oregon State Athletic Commission, and a truly nuts NWA section featuring the beginning of the end of Dusty Rhodes in the promotion, including the birth of The Dusty Flu. This is a story about a teenage running legend from Toronto. The year was 1962. At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, in the sweltering heat of an Australian summer, 18 runners lined up on the track at the start of the men's six-mile race. It was an impressive field that included Olympic medallists and past Commonwealth champions. Among these men was a young Canadian, a University of Toronto student named Bruce Kidd. On this week's episode of The Shakeout, we take you back to our conversation with this running legend, to relive the race 56 years ago, when a 19-year-old Kidd ran to secure his place as one of the greatest long-distance runners, not only in Canada, but also on the world stage. Audio excerpts are taken from the documentary film, Runner, directed by Don Owen and narrated by W.H. Auden.

Turnbuckle Turmoil is paying tribute, one more time, to the classic Don Owen's era of Portland Wrestling. We'll be joined by some of the people that were in Portland during the time Don Owens promoted. We'll get more great stories and thoughts on what made Portland one of the all time great wrestling territories. This is one show that you'll definately want to catch if you ever loved wrestling in the Pacific Northwest.
In honor of April 19th's CANADIAN FILM DAY, we give a brief history lesson on the National Film Board of Canada and discuss Don Owen's classic NOBODY WAVED GOODBYE (1964), BUSTER KEATON RIDES AGAIN (1965) and KANEHSATAKE: 270 YEARS OF RESISTANCE (1990). The Important Cinema Club has a PATREON. You can join for five dollars a month and get a brand new exclusive episode every week! WWW.PATREON.COM/THEIMPORTANTCINEMACLUB
The co-owner of NWA:BCW, Pattie Deitz, makes her way to Turnbuckle Turmoil for the first time. Pattie's first job in the industry was for Don Owen. She is trying to continue his excellence in wrestling promotion with her own company in Portland, OR. Pattie is there at the North Portland Eagles every Sunday watching matches, selling programs, talking with fans, and running a thriving wrestling company. We'll talk with Pattie about her place in the industry and about NWA:BCW as a company.
Turnbuckle Turmoil is proud to pay tribute to the Don Owen's era of Portland Wrestling. With such a great history and lasting several decades it was a very fondly remembered territory. We'll be joined by a few of the people whom happened to ply their trade for Owen. Having helped launch the careers of such stars as Billy Jack Haynes, Roddy Piper, Buddy Rose, Jesse Ventura, Rick Martel, and Raven the promotion also had its fair share of entrenched locals that became local heroes such as Sandy Barr, Dutch Savage, and Bull Ramos. Make sure you join us for this very special tribute to a territory that fans talk about to this day.
Luke with his partner Butch having gone as far as they could progress in little old New Zealand in the early 70’s decided they wanted to explore the world of Pro Wrestling, knowing that the USA was the pinnacle. At that time they were known as “Sweet William and the Brute" - The Kiwi’s. First stops were Australia, Singapore, Thailand and then Canada where they spent 3 years, the last one working for Stampede Wrestling owned by the notorious Stu Hart. They returned home in 1974 to do live tapings for the first New Zealand televised wrestling show “On the Mat”. In 1979 while working in Hawaii, Roddy Piper and Buddy Rose called the northwest promoter Don Owen. Hence the invasion of U.S.A by the team now known as “The Sheepherders” After ruling the northwest for 15 months they moved on to the NWA headquarters in Charlotte N.C where they became the Mid Atlantic tag champs in a matter of weeks. In the 80’s the Sheepherders were the most hardcore and brutal tag team in North America and held numerous titles throughout the US and around the globe. In mid 1988 the boys got a call from WWF (WWE) and off they went to the biggest promotion on the planet. The Sheepherders were now known as the BUSHWHACKERS who were loved by everyone. These eccentric farm boys from “Down Under” mesmerized millions of fans from all walks of life, young, old, rich and poor from all corners of the globe. Among the many TV shows the boys were featured on was Warner Brothers “Family Matters” featuring the character Steve Urkel. After the WWF era The Bushwhackers worked in England and Europe. Butch returned to New Zealand in 2001 and Luke went on to work in wrestling offices as talent coordinator.
Last week Rocky Classic promised to bring a PNW wrestling legend to Da Lounge. Hacksaw Sawyer is one of the most accomplished wrestlers out of the Don Owen era. He's making his return to the area for Blue Collar Wrestling at their annual outdoor event in St. John's. In what may be one of his final matches, he's sure to have strong opinions on the matter. Tune in and find out what kind of powder keg may explode on Da Lounge.
This week we talk with Don Owen from Shot Master Dry-Fire Targets.
