This episode dives into the innovative products developed by Robert's company, focusing on their impact in softball training. The discussion begins with an introduction to Field Sports Training and its three main products: the Fielders Dome, the Pitchers Alley, and the T-Bell. Robert shares the inspiration behind the creation of these products, emphasizing the need for efficiency in training drills. The Pitchers Alley, designed for quick and portable bullpen setup, addresses the challenge of organizing and measuring distances during warm-ups. Coach D expresses her appreciation for the visual aspect of the product and its positive impact on pitching lessons. Moving on to the Fielders Dome, Robert explains how this product originated from a desire to streamline fielding drills. The dome's embedded domes provide a visual aid for hand-eye coordination and reaction time. Coach D highlights its versatility, not only for fielding bad hops but also for enhancing overall athletic skills. The podcast emphasizes the importance of incorporating fielding practice into training routines for pitchers. Throughout the episode, the conversation touches on how these training tools benefit players, parents, and coaches alike. Robert emphasizes the non-gimmicky nature of their products, focusing on real-world problems faced during practices and games. The Fielders Dome, in particular, receives positive feedback for its lightweight and portable design, making it accessible for various training environments. Coach D and Robert delve into creative uses of the Fielders Dome, including reaction drills and its integration into pitching and hitting lessons. The discussion underscores the value of these training tools in developing well-rounded softball players. The episode wraps up with a reminder to listeners about the potential of these products for enhancing both individual and team performance. The greatest of all-time debate is something that never stops raging amongst sports fans. Like any true debate - in order to even crown a title like that - you must first set the standards - and thats usually where the conflict begins. Is it based on championships? Today's guest has won two world championships, three national championships, and three olympic gold medals. Or is it based on personal accolades? She is also a top-50 athlete in California history all-time, A three-time first-team all-American, a 3-time first-team academic all-American, a University of Arizona Hall of fame honoree, a national softball hall-of-fame honoree, and she holds the record for a batting average in a single college world series tournament, having hit .750. While that resume, along with a selection to ESPN's Greatest of all time softball team, probably qualifies our guest as a GOAT - we believe the true definition of that title comes not just from accolades, awards, and performance, but the type of person that you are - and our guest today has the resume to back that up too.Our guest today, Leah O'Brien Amico, is one of the most prolific softball players of all time. In addition to everything mentioned above, Leah is also a professional and inspirational speaker with over 20 years of experience, a published author having written “Victorious” and “Softball, Glory, and God's Story”, and an analyst for ESPN and Westwood One Sports and the host of “the gold standard podcast”. Amongst all of that, she is a dedicated mother to her three boys and is committed to empowering others to meet their potential.
We kick off another week on the podcast by heading on up to Baton Rouge and our annual chat with LSU's Beth Torina. Coach Torina talks with Eric Lopez about the Tigers' 2022 outlook including another challenging non-conference schedule and the keys to get them to Oklahoma City for the fifth time under her leadership. She also reflects on the impact of two women in her life who recently got inducted to their respective hall of fames; LSU's Yvette Giraurd and Houston's Angel Shamblin. The guys then chat about what players to look for with the Tigers and how they should be a Top 10 team in the preseason. Eric brings up a challenge laid down from a member of the Torina household involving Wrestlemania and Victor throws down a challenge of his own. The show wraps up with new content coming out soon on our YouTube page and an announcement about a future guest on the podcast.

Welcome everyone to Beyond The Dugout Episode 20 with Softball New Zealand's legendary Slugger Donny Hale 28th August 2021. Tonight's episode is an exclusive to first announce Donny's Hales induction to the SNZ Hall of Fame!! This episode is more like a version of this is your life…. With a bunch of surprises for Donny as we go along. We hope you all enjoy Donny's story as he has dazzled fans all over the world with his Massive home runs!! For 20 years, the ‘Halestorm' - three-time Black Sox world champion Donny Hale - was of the most feared and respected softball sluggers in the world. Donny – who is still playing professionally in Japan today in his mid-40s - drifted into softball as a youngster in Auckland after being star-struck watching New Zealand power hitters Ian Stringer and Murray McLean blasting home runs in a television game in the 1980s. Drawn to Mt Roskill's Fearon Park, Donny set the scene for a career as a hitter by slamming three homes in his first game as a 10-year-old. Like a lot of other talented Black Sox athletes, he first made his mark for Auckland, and was selected as such for his Black Sox tour to North America in 1994. There was a logjam of pitching talent in New Zealand then, and it took a couple of years for Donny to resurface in a Black Sox jersey. The 1.95m all-rounder reinvented himself as a long ball hitter after initially adding 15kg in the gym to give him more speed on the mound. “I decided that hitting the ball was more fun,'' Donny said in Relentless, the book devoted to the Black Sox's 2004 world championship title victory. “I wanted to be the guy who hit the home runs.'' For the next 15 or so years, he was just that – a regular in the middle of a power-packed New Zealand batting unit collectively acclaimed as the best the game has seen. Donny – who earned 110 Black Sox caps - went on to dominate pitchers in elite competitions in New Zealand, North America and Japan, winning titles everywhere he went. For all his innate physical gifts, Donny was also renowned for being a student of the game, particularly the art of hitting a ball long and far. He talked at length with Mark Sorenson about the mental aspects of hitting and gleaned a lot of insights too from playing and coaching overseas. At one point, Donny was even writing a regular column about batting for a Japanese softball magazine. While power was Donny's most obvious asset, former Black Sox coach Don Tricker once said it was his bat speed that set him apart. “I think he has the potential to be the best batter we have ever produced,'' Tricker said in 2004. “Every time he hits the ball, he's a legitimate home run threat.'' Hale hammered two home runs in his first world title winning tournament with the Black Sox in 2000 and was also in the heart of the line-up for the 2004 triumph in Christchurch, where he batted .444. Donny's final gold medal came at home in Auckland in 2013 and he won his final cap a season later, 20 years after his first. In his prime, he won the New Zealand Player of the Year award four times – including three years in a row from 2001 to 2003. A regular visitor to the International Softball Congress tournament – North America's prestige club competition – Donny's name still features prominently on the honours board. He is tied for the most home runs at a tournament (7, shared with Jarrad Martin and Patrick Shannon) and for most RBIs (17, shared with Wayne Laulu). He is also in a three-way tie at the top of the charts for most home runs in a game (3). Donny's dominance was underlined in 2012 when he was named MVP after 17 RBIs and a .529 average in leading Ontario's Broken Bow Travelers to a third consecutive title. Back home, Donny won countless national interclub titles with Ramblers and national provincial crowns with Auckland, serving as player-coach in some successful campaigns. Japan has long been the base for Donny and his long-time partner, former White Sox outfielder Sina Hunkin, but he has recently returned to give back some of his vast knowledge of the game as assistant-coach for the NZ White Sox. It's a completion of a circle as Donny and White Sox head coach Roman Gabriel were teammates from junior level right through to the Black Sox. Then at only 19 Years old won the ISC MVP Pitcher Award, must be the youngest….??? Monica reflects on the accomplishment of getting 500 strikeouts. She was the first pitcher to record this feat in all 4 years! She did it in her 33rd game. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - On this weeks fastpitch softball tv show I bring you the 4th and final part of a catchers clinic by Coach Courtney Scott. If you haven't seen part 1 make sure to check it out! http://SoftballJunk.com is a great resource for all of your softball bat needs. Fastpitch softball coach Courtney Scott finishes up her fourth and final portion of her catching clinic. Several of the softball coaches express their concern with whether to teach their catchers to call the game. Courtney replies with the answer that it is never too early to teach a catcher to call a game. It teaches them to be more involved in the game as well as keeping the pitcher and catcher more connected during a game. She also explains the importance of the catcher to be strong in guiding the team. The catcher should have a prescence that other teams fear and lead her softball team. As a catcher the team will rely on you to be the backbone for the reason that the catcher is a part of every play on the field. Be sure to check out part 1 if you haven't already! http://SoftballJunk.com is a great place to find the right softball bat for you! Fastpitch softball Coach Courtney Scott starts off part 3 of her clinic with stressing the importance of blocking the plate and doing so safely. Also, she asserts that the catcher and pitcher relationship must be solid. Those two players must trust each other for the reason that they have to hold each other accountable for what they do on the softball field. Courtney talks of situations in which she has had to be a part of situations where younger catchers are made to work together with veteran catchers and explains that not matter anyones age or rank, but everyone should welcome new advice and always work together to improve the dynamic of the softball team. Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In Jessica Mendoza's slapping clinic part four, Jessica takes questions from the audience. You can purchase the same softball bat at http://SoftballJunk.com. The first question Mendoza addresses is that you should teach a beginner softball player to hit first then teach how to slapping because it is harder to teach hitting away after they have been taught slapping. The next question was if Mendoza had to work out side of their softball team and they have to work on their own. She says that she did have to work outside and to work one-on-one to get the small details worked out. She also addresses that when the first foot hits down is the same time she makes contact with the softball. And that she never starts in the back of the box but she stays in the same spot in the box no matter if she is hitting away or slapping.
