The Harris/Walz South Georgia bus tour is on (where yet, is unknown) is on ... and the back & forth bickering between their camp and the Trump team about muted mics (it's wild who's for and against 'em) in the upcoming ABC-hosted debate is, too. Former Trump national security advisor General H.R. McMaster is out with a scathing new book, incidentally, which seems to couple nicely with Donald using the 3-year mark of the deadly suicide bombing in Afghanistan as political fodder and a photo-op at Arlington, no? The man's repulsive. Just ask his ex-wives. Speaking of honeymoons and divorces, his flirtation with Brian Kemp may be shorter-lived than expected if the Georgia Governor gets the go-ahead to clean house by removing any of the MAGA-licious board members.

Tax season is here, and as we subject ourselves to this perennial torture it begs the question: is there a better way to raise the money we need to fund the government without the massive compliance costs and inefficiencies? Two tax and economics experts, John Cochrane and Grover Norquist, join Rep. Crenshaw to answer that question. They take a close look at costs and benefits of the controversial Fair Tax and consumption taxes more broadly, how the U.S. tax system is one of the most progressive in the world, the political reality of tax reform, and what a perfect tax code starting from scratch would look like. John Cochrane is an economist and Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

Former U.S. National Security Adviser, retired General H.R. McMaster, joins Haaretz Weekend for a frank conversation about Ukraine, Iran and the future of the U.S.-Israel relationship. McMaster told host Allison Kaplan Sommer that Israel “ought to be embarrassed” for failing to “fully support” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his fight against the Russian invasion. The Ukrainian situation “is at least a little bit analogous to the situation of Israel” having been “attacked without provocation from a more powerful neighbor,” McMaster said. “This idea that you hedge [your bets] with Vladimir Putin to compensate for concerns that the American administration might attenuate or lessen support for Israel – that's part of a long pattern and it's always been wrong.” A longtime harsh critic of the Biden White House's decision to withdraw from Afghanistan last summer, McMaster is certain that “you can draw a direct line from the humiliating surrender to a terrorist organization and withdrawal from Afghanistan to Putin's decision to attack Ukraine.” McMaster also explains why he thinks the chances that Biden's Iran negotiators will ever be able to improve the terms of the nuclear deal are “zero,” and that Iran will never give up its fight to “place a proxy army on the border of Israel and to threaten Israel with destruction.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Afghanistan is a situation that's getting more horrific by the day. Yesterday 13 U.S. service members and 170 Afghan civilians killed in suicide bomb at Kabul airport. In past weeks we've seen young Afghani men, one a 19-year-old soccer player, fall to their deaths after clinging to a USAF transport plane. We've seen babies being handed over walls to American soldiers for rescue, by their sobbing mothers. We've seen reports of young women being gang raped under the return of the 8th century Sharia law. How much is enough of Joe the hologram? A week ago Biden stood before the world and proclaimed that 'any attack on our service members or operations' will be met with 'swift and forceful response''. Last night he went on TV late to make excuses and say there's nothing we can do and "I was instructed to call on these people" General H.R. McMaster, who served as Trump's National Security Advisor, says "This is only the beginning. Things will get much worse... What we now have is a new epicenter of jihadist terrorism that is going to be a grave threat to the world." Occasional-Cortex is demanding we take in up to 100k Afghan refugees even though Afghans in Europe have the highest crime rate of all "refugees"? And their crimes focus mainly on rape. In this episode, we wrap up the story of the Haitian Revolution. Toussaint Louverture consolidated power in the colony and drafted a new Constitution, in response to which Napoleon sent a massive French to bring Saint-Domingue back under French control. Much like the British before them, the French troops were decimated by yellow fever and so were not strong enough to put down the revolt that broke out when it was discovered that Napoleon planned to reimpose slavery in the colony. We also discuss yellow fever virus, including the disease it causes, how it came to the Americas, and the mosquito that vectors it.Engraving of Toussaint Louverture by J. The tendency to view strategy only through one's own lens can be described as “strategic narcissism,” where we don't consider the influence other players have on an outcome. This calls for a shift towards “strategic empathy.” “Empathy is really our ability to consider, in particular, the ideology, the emotions, and the aspirations that drive and constrain the other.” ————————————————————————— To learn more about this episode, including podcast transcripts and show notes, visit *salt.org/talks* ( http://salt.org/talks ) Moderated by Anthony Scaramucci.

On this edition of the Code Red Podcast, host Allen Roth speaks with retired Lt. General and Former National Security Advisor to President Trump, H.R. McMaster. In this exciting interview, Allen and Gen. McMaster discuss his new book, 'Battlegrounds: The Fight to Defend the Free World', and the many foreign threats facing our nation today. From Communist China to Iran, this wide-ranging interview touches on all of today's top national security issues, so you do not want to miss it!
The untold story of the past four years may be the level of consensus surrounding the Trump Administration's 2017 National Security Strategy, which argues great power competition with China, and to a lesser extent Russia, is our nation's central challenge. In the face of this competition, Democrats and Republicans alike have worked together on a whole host of issues to address this threat, whether it be securing America's 5G network or condemning the egregious human rights violations in Hong Kong or Xinjiang. The question is: will this agreement continue into the future, or fall prey to partisanship in a future administration? On this episode, the author of this national security strategy and former National Security Advisor, Lt. General H.R. McMaster, U.S. Army (Ret.) joins Rep. Gallagher to discuss these threats and ways the United States can better protect its interests abroad. Lt. General McMaster also discusses his new book, Battlegrounds: The Fight to Defend the Free World, which outlines the critical role he played in reassessing our country's security challenges and shifting its priorities to address them, and his video series that goes in-depth on these issues. While they don't have the same optimism for the Eagles football season, they do share hope that the fundamental priorities outlined by the National Security Strategy will remain bipartisan into the future.
H.R. McMaster is one of the most celebrated modern military leaders in America. His achievements include serving as a captain during the Gulf War, being responsible for fighting the Iraqi insurgency during the war in Iraq, writing the widely-read book Dereliction of Duty, and most recently serving as national security advisor under President Donald Trump. In his new book, Battlegrounds: The Fight to Defend the Free World, McMaster argues that American foreign policy has been misconceived, inconsistent and poorly implemented since the end of the Cold War. He describes efforts to reassess and fundamentally shift policies while he was national security advisor. And he provides a clear pathway forward to improve strategic competence and prevail in complex competitions against our adversaries. His book draws on McMaster's long engagement with these issues, including 34 years of service in the U.S. Army with multiple tours of duty in battlegrounds overseas and his 13 months as national security advisor in the Trump White House. Join us for a conversation with Lt. General H.R. McMaster as he calls for Americans and citizens of the free world to transcend the vitriol of partisan political discourse, better educate themselves about the most significant challenges to national and international security and work together to secure peace and prosperity for future generations. Once upon a time, it was accepted that as the world's only superpower, a certain degree of predictability and consistency would be reflected in international US policy to validate the various indulgences carried out around the globe. Not to say this often bipolar behavior did anyone any good. Ask the Balkans, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Central America, Qatar, Palestine, Syria, Iran, North Korea etc etc. The 6-time bankrupt Master Businessman in charge has decided that a constant antagonistic competition needs to exist for the honor of having his fleeting attention, seemingly dependent on how much you tell the Boss that he is brilliant. Enter the Rex Tillerson issue. Proof positive that the qualities that apparently mean so much - corporate power and success, connections across the globe, extensive personal knowledge of foreign officials - mean squat when you tell the truth about the Boss. Loyalty to the Donald is more important than loyalty to the nation. Mike Pompeo has been named to replace Tillerson at State, going from Top Spy to Top Diplomat. A former Tea Party congressman, veteran, lawyer, proven Islamaphobe and Christian supremacist. But he agrees with the Boss. To replace Pompeo at the CIA, Gina Haspel has been nominated. Despite commanding dark site torture facilities and destroying video evidence against court orders, this is the type of ideologue the Boss wants despite the message it sends to allies and enemies alike. General H.R. McMaster had to go as National Security Advisor because he wasn't a full-time sycophant. Enter John Bolton, a Bush holdover Dominionist who never met a war he didn't like, who now gets a job that doesn't need confirmation. Stanley Cohen has represented many clients who ran directly into policies supported and implemented by this new wave of cronies. The View Up Here welcomes Stanley back to discuss these nominations, their chances of confirmation and the mayhem to come.
Nicolas Maduro, president—really dictator—of Venezuela recently held a sham election to rewrite the country's constitution. The pretext for the vote was to create a new National Constituent Assembly to draft a new Venezuelan constitution. Speaking in the White House briefing room, General H.R. McMaster said, “The sham election of the National Constituent Assembly [in Venezuela] represents a very serious blow to democracy in our hemisphere. Maduro is not just a bad leader. He is now a dictator.” Shortly after the so-called election, opposition leaders were seized from their homes by Venezuela's secret police. It is a humanitarian crisis in addition to a political one. The United States has responded by imposing strict sanctions. No one in the U.S. can do business with Venezuela. Mr. Maduro also joins a very short list of heads of state who are personally sanctioned by our government. Nonetheless, the question remains: Can the United States allow a dictator with ties to Iran to set up in Venezuela? No. The U.S. must act.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
