Welcome to the first week of our Gratitude Experiment. We are gently unlocking the door of happiness this week by opening our hearts to gratitude in the simplest, most beautiful ways. When we pause and take notice, we start to see that happiness is not a destination, but it's present with us, waiting for us to notice it in tiny, precious moments. I'm excited to embark on our seven weeks of gratitude journey with you. I invite you to play full-on and have a fun experience. Before we start, ground yourself and take seven deep breaths in and out. So you breathe in deeply and breathe out slowly seven times. Gently close your eyes, if it's safe for you to do so, and imagine the positive impact focusing on gratitude will have on your life. The purpose of this experiment is to guide you gently towards a long-term gratitude practice you do daily. Longitudinal studies suggest that regular gratitude practice over time has enduring positive effects. Let us now review why gratitude increases your happiness: An attitude of gratitude uplifts our spirits and increases our mental and physical well-being. How do you feel when you are thankful to someone else? When we focus on the negative, “what does not work,” the doom and gloom, gratitude brings us back to our aliveness and positivity. Expressing gratitude extends our love as we recognize the goodness in our lives, even through the ups and downs. It also helps us cope with stress and buffers the impact of life's challenges. Therefore, gratitude helps us activate and optimize positive emotions like joy, happiness, satisfaction, optimism and contentment. Focusing on the positive aspects of life with a regular gratitude practice is linked to greater life satisfaction and fosters a more positive outlook. Indeed, neuroscientific research indicates that a grateful mind has measurable positive effects on brain regions related to social bonding, empathy, and emotional processing. Another benefit worth noting is the link between gratitude and higher levels of self-esteem: recognizing and appreciating our strengths contributes to a positive self-image. So let's do it! Let's increase our gratitude this week by deepening our love, hope and faith. Gratitude is the starting point of happiness. Let's return to Love. Love is our salvation, and it is essential to intensify that energy in times of doubt, disappointment, frustration, anger, stress and despair. Take a deep breath into your heart centre, in the middle of your chest, and your physical heart, and align your thinking with abundance as you say thank you from the depth of your heart. This week, we will practise gratitude by gently opening ourselves to life's wonders, little by little. Every day, take a moment to identify three things you are grateful for. These can be small, ordinary, or even unexpected. It could include things that lift your spirit, and bring a little spark of joy into your day. Like the comforting warmth of your favourite drink, a stroll in the park, the song of a bird, or a moment of stillness when you just breathe. By being grateful for life's simple pleasures, you raise your energy to a state of appreciation and positivity, viewing life with warmth. Here is your daily reflection: Write these moments down, letting yourself linger with each one and feeling the happiness they bring. Even a few words are enough to capture the feeling. Each reflection becomes a key, unlocking happiness and lighting up your heart. Remember: “When you say yes! to love, you say yes! to life.” Gratitude is a notable well-being enhancer. The more grateful you are, the more blessings you attract when you align with the energy of appreciation. To make it fun this week, take photos or draw the simple things in life you are most grateful for. As you progress through this week, notice how gratitude can transform your perspective on each day. Feel how these moments of happiness expand in your heart. This is the beginning of our journey, one gentle, graceful step at a time. Until next time, I'm sending you lots of love and light.
I don't know about you, but when I'm feeling stuck, my default is to jump straight into strategy. What's the tactical plan? What steps should I take? How do I break free from this rut? Is there a book, a podcast, a process, a checklist – anything that can guide me out? Just hand me the instruction manual, and let's get moving! But if you suspect that what's holding you back is more about mindset than your previous blocks have been, then this can be a tough place to be in, especially for those of us who thrive on logic and clear steps forward. Join The Co-op - The Membership for Online Businesses Connect with Abagail Instagram All the Links! How do we get to the root of why we are feeling so stuck? And more importantly, how do we start feeling positive about charting a new course? But I want to take it a step further. I've compiled a list of questions that I truly believe can help us dig deep and uncover what's going on beneath the surface. I don't think the questions by themselves are as helpful as seeing the process in action. So, we're going to tackle this together. I haven't prepped my answers to these questions. Instead, I'll open up about my own struggles, my mindset obstacles, and where I'm aiming to go next. Let's dive deep into these questions together! Episode Highlights: What Do You Really Want? What Is Making You Feel Stuck? What Are You Willing To Do About It? What Are You Not Willing To Do? What's Your First Step? What Are You Willing To Commit To? How Will You Stay Focused? How Do You Need to Feel To Be The Most Effective At Showing Up? How Can You Create More of That Feeling? Is There Anything You Need To Address In Your Body In Order To Make This Happen? What you will learn from this episode: Discover the transformative power of video collaborations for increasing the visibility of your beauty business. Hear about leveraging your connections for future promotional opportunities and sales. Understand how to position yourself as an industry expert with successful video collaborations. Getting more quality clients is the goal of every beauty business, right? Absolutely, and that starts with brand awareness and exposure. One of the simplest ways to expand your brand's visibility and recognition is through video collaborations. Not to mention, by tapping into another professional's audience, you're also creating an opportunity for cross-promotion and more sales. This strategy increases your potential audience base while ensuring that your content specifically targets those who are likely to be interested. So brilliant! Additionally, repurposing video content from the collaborations can extend the timeline and reach of this increased exposure. April shares in this episode how repurposing content from collaborations can continually bring new awareness and engagement long after the initial broadcast. Furthermore, she emphasized the ripple effect that video collaborations often have, citing the Law of Reciprocity, and the enhanced brand trust as a bonus of these partnerships. Topics Covered: 00:01:09 - Introduction to Video Collaborations, 00:03:03 - Finding the Right Collaborators, 00:07:00 - The Secret Benefits of These Partnerships, 00:09:44 - How to Maximize Your Brand Visibility with these Collaborations, 00:14:00 - The Powerful Law of Reciprocity and how it Helps You, 00:16:42 - Knowing The Right Way to Build Business Relationships, 00:19:00 - Additional Benefits You Haven't Thought About, 00:22:45 - Your First Step to Start Video Collaborations, Key Takeaways: “Collaborations are not only good for the soul, but they can also boost your beauty business and attract more clients. When you put video and collaborations together, the results can be powerful.” - April Meese "You wanna make sure that the person that you're collaborating with is a good fit for your brand and it's somebody that you would actually want to talk to and collaborate with. That's really important. And because that's a reflection of you. Who you bring on. Your platform and who you bring on to interview. Is a reflection of your business as well. So you wanna make sure if there is an alignment with that and your values." - April Meese "I love video collaborations because I like to learn from people and I like to hear their perspective. And sometimes they say something that, like the journey is hard, which we all know, right? It's challenging and you gotta keep going. But they say it in a way where I'm like, Ooh, yeah, that's really good. Like it just feeds my soul. So when I'm interviewing people, a lot of times, of course I learn something, but I also like to enjoy the conversation." - April Meese "Don't just collaborate with somebody because you think they have a large following. Because I can't tell you how many times I have collaborated with someone or interviewed someone that has maybe 75,000, a hundred thousand followers, and they have very low engagement. I'm not saying that those followers are bought. They could have been, maybe those followers just aren't engaged anymore. And so, I'd rather have somebody that even has a small audience that has a very engaged audience." - April Meese

Today, I want to share with you some ways imperfection is beautiful, magical, and natural—in other words, how imperfection is actually perfect.I am a recovering perfectionist. Let's talk about sleep! Since we officially entered winter, I feel like I've taken on the energy of the bear and really have felt the need to hibernate in my own way, which means sleeping more, going to bed earlier, and taking more naps. I've never been a night owl, and I've always felt like I needed more sleep than everyone around me. Heck, even in my childhood, I'd be with a group of friends watching a movie, and I'd notoriously fall asleep part-way through—and it didn't matter how action-packed the movie was—I would konk out. For most of my adult years, my normal bedtime was normally 9:30 to 10. My husband and I would even jokingly refer to 10 pm being “Pumpkin Time” for me. But for the past month, I've been going to bed earlier, and it's been a game-changer. Maybe you're not an early bird, and you're more of a night owl—either way, in this episode, I talk about the importance of sleep in maintaining balance and well-being, as well as strategies for finding the right sleep schedule for your body. Join me as I dive into the benefits of sleep and how to make it a priority in your life. What You'll Learn: - How much sleep the average American gets vs. how much they need - How sleep benefits your life balance and overall well-being - How you getting more sleep also benefits the people around you - Tips for finding your natural sleep rhythm - Strategies for improving the quality of your sleep - How finding creative solutions can help accommodate your sleep needs Resources: - Get my FREE 6-minute training, ‘Your First Step to Better Life Balance' https://charisyourlife.com/freetraining - Follow me on Instagram: https://instagram.com/charisyourlife - Follow me on Facebook: https://facebook.com/charisyourlife/ - Follow me on LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/charisyourlife/ - Follow me on YouTube: https://charisyourlife.com/youtube/ - Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/charisyourlife/ - Follow me on Pinterest: https://pinterest.com/charisyourlife/ - My website: https://charisyourlife.com/
Happy New Year! If you listened to last week's episode, the closing quote was so good it bears repeating, and I decided to do an entire episode about it. “Every year, you make a resolution to change yourself. This year, make a resolution to be yourself.” – Unknown author It's amazing how simple it sounds to just “be ourselves.” Yet, in reality, it can be really hard to actually “be” ourselves because we have decades of habitual behaviors that our brains have wired as our norm. In this episode, I share some ways we can practice truly being ourselves. What You'll Learn: - What it truly means to be yourself - How to determine if you really are being yourself - Simple yet effective practices that help you rediscover yourself If you take regular small steps toward rediscovering yourself and get some support along the way, it is absolutely possible to be yourself more and more. And this results in feeling more balanced, more joyful, and more peace of mind. I am so excited to have Sigrun with me on my podcast in today's episode. She has been a great business mentor to me this year. Sigrun is on a mission to accelerate gender equality through female entrepreneurship. She is the leading business mentor for female online entrepreneurs in Europe, TEDx speaker, and host of the Sigrun Show podcast. Originally from Reykjavik, Iceland, she has spent more than half her life outside her home country; in Germany, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Since she was a young girl she's always been drawn to leadership roles, so despite having zero business background nor the education, she made a life-changing phone call and asked to become the CEO of a software company shortly after finishing her master's degree in architecture – and she got the job! Ten years, another three master's degrees, and several CEO roles later, Sigrun found herself in Switzerland with her newfound love but sick and unemployable. Her dream was to be location independent so she could split her time between Iceland and Switzerland, travel the world, and take care of her health. So in 2014, Sigrun started her online business and quickly built a multiple 7 figure coaching business. With a membership, coaching programs and masterminds she helps women from all over the world start, build, and scale their online businesses to 6 and 7 figures. Sigrun chats with me about her journey, how she helps entrepreneurs, as well as how she maintains her own version of life balance. What You'll Learn: - Who Sigrun is, and how she has been a mentor as I've built my online business - Sigrun's journey through 4 master's degrees and multiple CEO roles to business owner - What it takes to create an online business - How Sigrun creates balance in her life, while owning and running a 7-figure online coaching business Sigrun has a wonderful offer for you to watch 12 brand new, value-packed masterclasses for free at the link below! Today's episode is my first Book Brief! I am looking forward to sharing a fabulous book with you today that I read—or technically listened to—last year. And since you're listening to this podcast, I wonder…do you also prefer listening to books instead of reading them? 'The Way of Integrity' by Martha Beck was published in 2021, and instantly was a New York Times bestseller. It also became an Oprah book club pick. And Oprah describes it as “A roadmap on the journey to truth and authenticity… [The Way of Integrity] is filled with aha moments and practical exercises that can guide us as we seek enlightenment.” In 'The Way of Integrity', Martha presents a four-stage process that anyone can use to find integrity, which ultimately will lead to feeling more purposeful, experiencing emotional healing, and having more peace of mind. She believes our discomfort and suffering are often the results of us losing touch with what makes us feel whole. What's really unique about how Martha talks about these issues and her strategies for overcoming them, is that she uses Dante's classic hero's journey 'The Divine Comedy' as a framework. Martha also incorporates her fantastic wit, plus references of psychology, neuroscience, and sociology throughout the book. What You'll Learn: - How we can get on, and stay on, a path of feeling whole and complete - How ‘The Divine Comedy' written by Dante in the 1300s relates to your life - Martha Beck's four-stage process to a purpose-driven life - How to read your internal signals so that you stay in integrity - How to bring your external life into alignment with your inner truth More and more people are finding their way to integrity and balance. It's just that you have to start looking for them. Curate your social feeds so that you are seeing more of the people who demonstrate this way of living for you. Get the proof in front of you so that you can start believing it is possible. And I highly recommend you read or listen to this book for more inspiration and support. There's a link to all versions of the book below. Today, I want to share something that happened to me recently where I was reminded how amazing our bodies are in giving us instant signals that can help us make decisions. As much as I practice not having expectations and detaching from outcomes, I still catch myself having them at times, and the way I notice this happening is that, typically, I feel disappointed. Recently I noticed I was sitting in disappointment about something and I wasn't in a mental space to see opportunities and possibilities. I started feeling backed into a corner about a decision I needed to make and feeling like I had no choice but to do something I did not desire. Many times I've been in a session with a coach or a therapist, and they've commented on signals they noticed, and thankfully, they brought that awareness to me. Then I can see all the possibilities and get unstuck so I can move forward on something in a way that feels good. What You'll Learn: - What your body's instant signals are that can help you make decisions - How to recognize these body signals - How you can increase your awareness of your emotional and physical signals - How these signals are crucial to your decision-making process If you'd like some support in getting unstuck and moving forward, I have a few spots available for one-hour private sessions with me before year-end, but only a handful. So check in with your body now and see if you have subtle or noticeable signs of excitement and maybe a little curiosity about getting my support this way. If so, send me a DM on social media with the word “session”. As we're nearing year-end, I have been reflecting back on so many wonderful experiences I've had this year and all the gifts and lessons they brought me. If you've been following me for a while, then you may know that a few months ago, I participated in a speaking competition. Today, I share what sparked my decision to enter, because the way I made this decision is how I believe we all should be making decisions... Plus, I share the surprising gifts that came from the experience. While I didn't win a trophy, I was rewarded in numerous ways. I gained deeper connections with my dad, my husband, my friends, and my online community. I experienced healing for myself at a deeper level. I was able to detach from an outcome. And then I uncovered that sneaky, hidden expectation that reminded me how there really is always a choice in everything we do, especially when we assume there isn't. What You'll Learn: - What led me to join a speaking competition - Why it is crucial to listen to your inner compass - How I was able to manage my expectations - Why I felt uncomfortable while rehearsing - What important advice my Dad gave me to improve my delivery - How important it is to redefine “winning” and “success” - What key takeaways I was rewarded with out of this experience This experience showed me how far I've come in how I relate to things in my life, and how I don't let those supposed measurements or milestones have control over me the way they used to. This is my first edition of “My Favorite Things.” I'll be sprinkling in these special episodes at different times of the year with various themes. This edition has a fall and winter theme, and of course, includes some great holiday gift ideas. I actually don't do a lot of gift exchanges myself. My friends and family know that I've become SUPER particular and don't like clutter—I'm kind of a minimalist…unless it comes to things that make me happy and comfortable or help make my life easier. My friends often comment that I find unique things and have cool stuff—from my clothing to my gadgets. I also tend to do a LOT of research and try things out until I find stuff I absolutely love. As you know, I'm on a mission to help you Charis Your Life…which means I truly want you to cherish ALL aspects of your life. So in today's episode, I'm sharing some cool things that make my life more enjoyable, especially during the fall and winter. What You'll Learn: - What I use every morning to help relax my neck, shoulders, and upper back - What I use to prop up my laptop when I'm working on the couch - How I make the perfect dense foam for my coffee - What cooking pan we use the most (and even take with us on road trips) - How my indoor holiday decorations turn on and off automatically - What I use regularly to stay healthy and keep my allergies under control (and must travel with) - What I use to save time when drying my hair (and must also travel with) - What comfy clothes my husband and I wear around the house Below are the links to everything I share in this episode. Today I want to share a letter I found in an old journal of mine from college. It's dated January 27, 1996. I remember reading this letter at the final Chapter meeting I attended for the sorority I was in at the time. I don't know how it is now, but when I was in college, it was unheard of for people to leave a sorority or fraternity. That is referred to as deactivation and it completely removes your affiliation with the organization. (Technically some of the female organizations we refer to as sororities are actually fraternities so don't get confused when I refer to the organization I was in 26 years ago as a fraternity.) What You'll Learn: - Why I initially joined the fraternity - Why I changed my mind and decided to leave the fraternity - What I said to the Chapter members during my final meeting - How I felt leading up to the moment I read the letter to the Chapter - How rare it was for me to give myself permission to change my mind and walk away from something Most of the time we do not give ourselves permission to change our minds, and we don't let ourselves walk away from many things. That contributes to us filling our time with many unfulfilling things. And remember, for everything you say yes to, there's something else that you're saying no to. So on your journey to have a more balanced life, you need to be able to change your mind and walk away from some things. In the personal development world, it's fairly common to hear how important it is to practice gratitude. Yet there's something else that I don't hear talked about nearly as much that I think is super important and that is acknowledging yourself. In Fearless Living, we have a very simple and specific way of doing this. I realized lately that I've not done this myself in quite some time and it's something I'm going to commit to doing again. What You'll Learn: - What stem sentence to use to powerfully acknowledge yourself - What types of things you should practice acknowledging yourself for - What acknowledgments do for your confidence - How acknowledgments are connected with your emotional energy I hope you'll join me and acknowledge yourself today after learning this effective framework. You are worth it. And I think you'll be pleasantly surprised that you are doing soooo much better than you realize! Today I want to talk about making mistakes. And I'm going to share with you a recent mistake I made, the stream of thoughts that flooded my mind as soon as it happened, how my body reacted, the emotions that overcame me, what I said, and then what I did to do my best to resolve it. What You'll Learn: - How I accidentally sent an email template out to my entire email list - What I said out loud when I realized that I'd made the mistake (ok, I don't share exactly what I said because I didn't want to have to give this show an explicit rating…) - How my body and mind quickly went into their innate fear responses - How I calmed and centered myself so that I could focus - What I did to resolve it within a handful of minutes - How I turned it into a gift How often have you—and do you still—beat yourself up over your mistakes? Are you able to calm yourself and take action to resolve them as best you can and then forgive yourself and move forward? Have you ever felt inconvenienced by needing to schedule personal appointments like a routine doctor's appointment, a car service, taking care of things around the house, or taking care of something for your partner, parents, or children? I remember feeling so busy that I didn't have time for these types of things. If it was something that I really needed to be done right away, I would often do it with a feeling of resentment and annoyance. I have come to learn that if you're willing to practice some new things and if you're willing to be wrong—then one step at a time, you can rewire yourself to choose differently. I did it and so can you. What You'll Learn: - What I used to say to myself when I would put things off, especially things for myself - What my life is like now in regards to being busy - How choosing differently starts with small things - What short sentence was on one of the most clever social media posts I've ever seen - What you may really be waiting for Now that I understand more about how our brains work, I really get how hard it seems to break our habits, because every change we make, every new choice, shows up internally—especially to the survival part of our brain—as if we are stepping out of our comfort zone and heading into a danger zone, even when the changes would make us happier. Waiting for anything is a decision you are making and you may want to check in on the reason behind it. Oftentimes your survival brain is confused, and in trying to keep you safe, it's actually keeping you from something that could help set you free from your old, unhealthy habits. Today, I am sharing a special memory connected to overcoming fears and trauma. I went skydiving with my husband Don when we were dating in 1995, barely a year after my family's tragic hot air balloon accident. That may sound crazy, and yet it was one of the most amazing things I've ever done. I've kept journals sporadically throughout my life, and just a few days ago, I happened across an entry I wrote right after we jumped out of the plane. During today's episode, I read that for the first time in 27 years, plus I share some additional story snippets. Here's one excerpt from my journal: “I've gained a little more peace with myself. It's so confusing and frustrating to try to decide when, where, and how to take risks.” What You'll Learn: - How I initially went along for the ride, not intending to jump - Why I decided to jump out of a plane by myself - How I felt as I climbed out to the plane's wing arm and let go - My parents' reaction when they found out I wanted to share this story to show what's possible. I hope that it will give you a little drop of courage to help you overcome a piece of your past in some way. Do you know the KISS principle? It's an acronym for “keep it simple stupid.” It was first coined in 1960 by aircraft engineer Kelly Johnson as a design principle for the U.S. Navy. We had our own version of the KISS principle in my family. (Listen in to hear what it is!) In the past, I had a tendency to make things complicated. What I tend to notice now is that often when I start to feel frustrated, irritated, anxious, desperate, frenetic, pressured, worried, or overwhelmed, that's my cue that something needs to be simplified. What You'll Learn: - Why Kelly Johnson first used the KISS principle (It's an interesting origin story!) - What the eight most common variations of the phrase are - What my family's special version of the phrase is - Why we often make things more complicated than they really are, or need to be Start to pay closer attention to your feelings and see if there's any connection to something that you've made complicated, and ask yourself, “How can I simplify this?” There are always ways to simplify our lives. This is my Mom's story, which is now mine to share. She passed away on Thanksgiving Day of 2013 due to liver disease from alcoholism. The first time I got her into rehab, she wrote some journal entries. This was rare; my Mom did not write or keep any other journals. She also did not frequently express or process her true emotions. The day I did this recording was the day I was finally emotionally ready to read every word of the three letters about her pregnancy and what happened when she was pushed into traveling across the world to a foreign country by herself for an abortion when she was 18. What You'll Learn: - What she wrote to her boyfriend in her “Letter to John” (I've changed his name to John, as in John Doe) - What she wrote in her “Letter to Baby” - What she wrote about her pregnancy and the aftermath - How her abortion story connects to my life - Where I now stand on the issue of abortion Knowing what I have come to learn about fear, emotions, trauma, and this human experience in general—I now understand that she was scared to death to feel her feelings. So she stuffed them away. Eventually, she drank them away. It breaks my heart to know she went through what she did. And then to consider that when she was 45, her whole world crashed down with our hot air balloon accident. I saw her lose so much—yet at that time, I had no clue how scary loss must have been for her. More stories need to be told about all kinds of life experiences. More people need to unlock the doors of rooms inside them where they've buried their feelings. More forgiveness and understanding will result. And then we won't feel so divided. Life is full of paradoxes, and this story is just one of many examples of that.At the core, we are each dealing with the same inner challenges fundamentally; we're dealing with our fears and the feelings we've locked away in our own inner rooms. For a few years now, something I have done for fun is getting two season tickets to the Broadway shows in San Francisco and taking friends to the shows. I recently saw “Hadestown” with Tricia Stone, who was my first boss and incredible mentor after graduating college. A few weeks later, I saw “The Prom” with Christina Bryant, who worked for me for ten years. I was Christina's first boss out of college—so I was to Christina what Tricia was to me. Both of these professional relationships evolved into special long-lasting friendships. Today I talk specifically about the show “Hadestown,” which intertwines the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and the tale of Hades, the King of the underworld, and his wife, Persephone. SPOILER ALERT: Skip from 4:34 to 6:26 in this episode if you don't want to hear key details about the plot of the Broadway show “Hadestown.” What You'll Learn: - What the real road of life is - Why does doubt come into our minds - Why fear and sabotaging thoughts show up in our daily lives - How practicing trust can lessen our doubts and quiet our fears I want you to doubt your doubts. Get curious about them. Are those doubts just thoughts keeping you from things that would bring you more joy and true fulfillment? I spent a lot of time at my dance studio during childhood—the Tri-Cities Academy of Ballet was like a second home to me and the owners/teachers, Joel & Debra Rogo, became an extended family, as did my fellow dancers. Many big life moments happened while I was at the studio, including the moment the First Gulf War began (while my brother was on the front lines as a sniper in the Marines) and the first time I asked someone out on a date. Today, I'm going to share five life lessons that I learned from my time as a dancer. What You'll Learn: Why it's often best to mold something to fit you instead of molding yourself to fit it How focus is a proactive behavior that can help you move from fear to freedom Why loosening up and stretching (physically and emotionally) is beneficial How balance is not static and requires constant realignment How the real purpose is not to get to a certain place, but to enjoy each step These are just five of the many powerful life lessons I learned from being a dancer. Whether or not you have ever danced, you can apply these teachings to your own life so that you can live a life with more freedom, ease, and joy. Today is the 28th anniversary of my family's hot air balloon accident. In this episode, I share with you some details about that day, the aftermath, and a few reflections I have on it. I also share three gifts I've been able to find in that experience. What You'll Learn: - What happened the night before my Dad's 50th birthday - What the consequences of the hot air balloon accident were - How I reacted to the event and what my coping mechanism was - How this experience led me to an unhealthy pattern of behaviors in my life - The three gifts I found that came from this tragedy Here I am, 28 years later, as a coach and mentor, because of what my family went through and the path it took me on. I am now using my experiences to help others heal from their own traumas that have pushed them into unhealthy coping mechanisms of becoming busy worker bees at the expense of their health and happiness. And every time I share, every time I teach and coach, another piece of me heals in that process. What's the creation of a content marketing strategy first step? This podcast episode will walk you through the 4 main steps. The post Episode 116: Your First Step to Creating a Marketing Strategy appeared first on Amanda Warfield.
So many times in the past, I have been in the head-down zone, hyper-focused on my goals, working many nights and weekends, for weeks and months at a time, not paying attention to my body's fuel gauge. Then, I'd find myself totally depleted, and it would take weeks, months, or even years to replenish. In this episode, I want to help you understand the importance of filling up your energy tank before you hit burnout. What You'll Learn: - What happened to me as a result of taking care of business while neglecting myself - How learning about neuroscience helped me understand what happened with my brain during burnout - The four characters in our brain as described by neuroanatomist, Jill Bolte Taylor, Ph.D. - A visualisation that can help you create some breathing room In order to avoid feeling depleted and burned-out, you need to create some white space in your schedule, otherwise you're just continuing to loop around a racetrack. You have to make a commitment to yourself, start saying no to some things and saying yes to self-care. Although it's not easy to just flip that switch, know that you are not alone and there is help and support available to you. A common complaint I hear out there can be summed up by the statement, 'There's no time for me.' A lot of people are struggling with finding time for themselves. I used to live my days in that constrained cycle, feeling like I was backed up against the wall and just racing around. Today I will help you understand how to break that cycle and free more time for yourself. What You'll Learn: - Why so many people feel like they don't have enough personal time - The turning point in my life that changed my perspective on how I use my time - An exercise to help you start making changes in your life to give yourself more time Every moment of every day, we get a chance to reset. I'll help you reset right now by shifting one thing. I will help you choose one action to take that will free up some of your time so that you don't have regrets and wonder what you would do if you could do it all again. We've all heard something along the lines of, ‘you just need to make time for the things that matter,' or ‘you just need to make it a priority.' Well – easier said than done. But why is that? If being out of balance is our norm, then our brain operates like a superhighway with 18 lanes, and we feel like we just can't take our eyes off the road and figure out what we need to change. So in this episode, I'll be talking about the FIRST step you can take to create better life balance. What You'll Learn: - How to start noticing the signs that tell you you're out of balance and alignment - What the first step to any change or transformation is - How to discover how you really feel about what you're spending your time on - How to start feeling more in control of your days and have more freedom to make adjustments All the obstacles you see in your way to a more balanced life may be true. But I will tell you, as a recovering workaholic, that there are ways to change your life – one small, actionable step at a time. #2 Your First Step by Tiny House Tool
What We Heard: A salvation experience as a child and the subsequent call led Stan to pursue what he thought would be a career in ministry, but after a chance encounter with a Metro Police ride-along led he found his calling in law enforcement. After completing his new major, criminal justice, Stan launched his career as a police officer and eventually worked his way to the DEA, where he just celebrated his 20 year work anniversary. There is an opioid epidemic in our country. Heroine is on the rise nationally and here in middle TN, it is brought into our lives by over-prescribed narcotics. It’s no longer the stereotypical drug dealer we imagined from television shows but doctors, pharmacies, and big businesses engaged in criminal activity prescribing and providing drugs for profit. What It Means: So how do we protect ourselves? Stan’s personal story about managing his own son’s pain level after a sport’s injury gives insight. At one point or another, we may be prescribed an opioid or narcotic for pain management, and in many cases, it takes someone else helping us be conscious of the potential for harm. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” An uninformed person, particularly an uninformed parent, is no excuse. Utilizing the resources provided on the DEA website is an immediate win. Much like conversations about teens abusing technology, engaging in underage drinking and sexual activity; parents have a responsibility to know what is out there in the world seeking to destroy our kids. Opioid use is a preventable, diagnosable and treatable disease. We can offer protection but it requires information and education. Since, we don’t understand is the sheer power of a single microgram of manufactured opioid within a prescribed medication, we should not take these drugs lightly. Professionally, Stan contends that the legalization of marijuana has only lessened the fear-factor associated with drugs, particularly those found in or related to prescriptions. We simply cannot afford to underestimate these drugs. What We Do Next: For those that this crisis has hit personally, it’s a tragic, unfortunate platform that must be leveraged. Stan sees moms who are open and vocal after tragedy. They share their stories to engage the fight for others. It creates levels of prevention and protection. He rarely sees men or fathers who have been impacted by the opioid crisis do the same. Men who have experienced this need to stand up and speak up. In whatever arenas of influence and leadership they have, particularly over young men. We as leaders need to make that investment. Information can lead to transformation, especially when it involves drug prevention. Note of Encouragement and Leadership Application: Stan is able to deal with large scale devastation because of his commitment to Christ and ongoing connection to his local church. Your biggest leadership crisis as a man may be a financial bottom line or a market share. Just because your daily stress-points might not be life or death, does not diminish your need for constant connection to Jesus and His body in this world, the church.
