It's a theme week as we travel back to the future. We start things off with a look at the 2020 version of The Fugitive, looking at what it gets right and wrong as a property based on a 60s and 90s TV show/movie. (03:25) But then we had back to 1986 for the Talking Heads movie True Stories. (24:47) Dan's been watching Halt & Catch Fire - a mid 2010s show set in the 1980s. (41:35) And then we look at what might be the final years of cinema as TV and cinema finally converge. (52:52) Yeah - it's a big episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/always-be-watching/message

It's the debut film from self-proclaimed "film school addict" Christian Papierniak. Here is our interview with Christian to talk about his film school addiction; how instrumental Mackenzie was in getting this film made and a whole lot more.

In May 2015, The New Yorker published a profile of the Silicon Valley investor Marc Andreessen. In it, writer Tad Friend joined Andreessen in his living room to watch an episode of Halt & Catch Fire, the AMC drama chronicling the rise of personal computing in the early 1980s. The scene provided an intimate window into the billionaire's home life.
Based on the true story of the Black September aftermath, Munich (2005) tells the story of five men who were chosen to eliminate the masterminds responsible for that fateful day. Spielberg shot this film on a very fast schedule, and turned it out fast enough to qualify for that year's award season — but the question is, did he make a good movie? We also discuss more Halt & Catch Fire and Bojack Horseman, as well as our excitement over future releases like Star Wars: The Last Jedi and I, Tonya.
On today's episode of the Bandrew Says Podcast, I apologize for the crappy audio, talk about launching a new podcast, and I plug a podcast I was a guest on where I probably shared too much. In the news segment, I talk about Boeing offering $2 Million in Prize money, Google Pulling Out of Amazon, Amazon cutting the price of their 4k Content, Twitter allowing 280 character long tweets, New Amazon Echo Devices, a new Yubikey, New GoPros, The Nokia 3310 coming to the United States, Youtube blocking external links, and Homeland Security conducting social media Screenings. In TV, I suggest watching Halt & Catch Fire. During the Ask Bandrew Segment, I answer: Any instruments you want to include in your reviews?, Small diaphragm mics for vocals?, Favorite bass guitar?, Using the Sm7b w/o Windscreen?, Why i started reviewing mics?, why I use the NT1 for interface reviews?, and if the ATR1100 is good for gaming on a budget? In the news I talk about a new Tile device, the end of the best TV show on air, Halt & Catch Fire, and Amazon’s music streaming service. To finish out the podcast, I discuss Mirage Men, a documentary focussing around the disinformation campaign waged against Paul Bennewitz and the entire UFOlogy community. I'm sure by now that most of you have seen or heard about the TV show "Stranger Things" on Netflix. If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out. It totally rips off Close Encounters, ET, Poltergeist, Stand By Me, Firestarter, etc. but it doesn't matter because it's ripping them off in a loving way. The same is true for the soundtrack. It's got a great analog synth sound reminiscent of Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter soundtracks. The minute I heard the Stranger Things theme I knew I had to make a mix featuring the new retro sound. Even though the music in this mix sounds like it's from the 70s or 80s all of it is new, with most cuts being from 2015 & 2016. In addition to the Stranger Things theme I of course had to include the Tangerine Dream remix of it. Thanks to Mike of Ambient Music Guide for the heads up on the soundtrack from Halt & Catch Fire by Paul Haslinger. It's fantastic! Another soundtrack that made it's way into the mix is from Mac Quayle music for Mr. Robot - more analog loveliness. I hope everyone enjoys the mix, I know had a ball putting it together. Cheers! In gaming this month Mitch tried "Forza Horizon" and after a bit more Pokemon Go, Joe attempted to finish "Far Cry 4" but got distracted and went back to "Lego Marvel" to collect character tokens. We then talk TV with "Stranger Things", "Halt & Catch Fire", the third season of "Penn & Teller Fool Us" with new host Alyson Hannigan, and Mitch does a bit of cross-promotion and talks about "Hey, Hey...It's Saturday!" and his new Geekdudes spin-off podcast Hey, Hey...It's the Podcast which drops it's debut episode soon. After that it's movie talk with Joe following on from last month by watching "The Karate Kid II", going all 90's with martial arts in "The Perfect Weapon", college sexual experimentation in "Threesome", and over the top magic in "Now You See Me 2". Plus Mitch looks back at the casual racism in the 60's time capsule "They're A Weird Mob" and manages to compare "Suicide Squad" with wanky coffee. We even manage to squeeze in a bit more nostalgia for kids on bikes in the 80's along the way too!
On today's episode of the BSP, I go on a few length rants. First on the list revolves around Lewis from Unbox Therapy and peoples expectation and belief that he owes free phones to people. I then cover a lot of news from a new Amazon Echo competitor, Pokemon Go's user base, Gawker going bankrupt, a New YouTube Social Network, a New Canon 4k DSLR, and a Phone that is Completely Screen. I briefly talk about Halt & Catch Fire and then Deadspace. For the main topic, I go in depth on how I deal with and overcome haters I encounter, people who doubt my goals, and finally personal failures in life. 00:00 - Intro 01:12 - Unbox Therapy Giveaway (Leave Lewis Alone) 05:56 - Amazon Echo Competitor 07:08 - Pokemon Go Users 08:29 - Gawker is Dead 11:03 - YouTube Social Network? 14:34 - Canon 5D Mark IV 15:50 - Apple iPhone is Completely Screen! 19:25 - Halt & Catch Fire 21:05 - Deadspace 22:07 - How Deal with Haters & Personal Failures 34:13 - Outro Follow BSP on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/bandrewsayspodcast Follow BSP on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/bandrewsays http://www.geeksrising.com

Pacing Pete does his best Entertainment Rundown impression with Casey off this week. TV Talk leads the second half as the guys get heavy into House of Cards and AMC's breakout hit, Halt & Catch Fire. Henry San Miguel joins the guys and gives his re-cap of San Diego Comic Con and the guys talk new trailers and give you their classic TV/movie picks for this week. It's all here on an ALL-NEW Scene 'N' Nerd!
On this show we dig into a whole bunch of things we've been watching over the past couple of months... In TV we take a look at the latest season of Orange is the New Black and AMC's new period piece, Halt & Catch Fire. We also pay our belated respects to the late great Rik Mayall who will be very sorely missed :( (we recorded this almost a month ago!). Then we talk about a whole bunch of movies, including the sleeper indie smash, Blue Ruin, the Branagh directed (and starring) Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Coming of Age hits; The Kings of Summer, The Way, Way Back & Mud, The Coen's Inside Llewyn Davis and Denis Villeneuve and Jake Gyllenhaal's follow up to Prisoners, Enemy.Orange is the New Blackhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt2372162/Halt & Catch Firehttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt2543312/?ref_=nv_sr_1Rik Mayall RIPhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27770266Blue Ruinhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt2359024/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruithttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt1205537/?ref_=nv_sr_1The Kings of Summerhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt2179116/?ref_=nv_sr_1The Way, Way Backhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt1727388/?ref_=nv_sr_1Mudhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt1935179/?ref_=nv_sr_1Inside Llewyn Davishttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt2042568/?ref_=nv_sr_3Enemyhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt2316411/?ref_=nv_sr_1Rob @bobirokaIain @ebowgbJon @wobblyjonContact us on Email at: notwatchingpodcast@gmail.comFollow us on Twitter: @notwatchingpodYou can find the show notes for this show at www.notlistening.co.ukIf you're listening on iTunes, please give us a review! To Check out other shows in the Collection visit:http://barkerpodcasts.webs.com Including the #NOTplaying Podcast: http://www.spreaker.com/show/the-notplaying-podcastAll views and opinions expressed in this podcast are solely those of The #NOTwatching Podcast.
