In the second installment of our two-part series with members of the Racial Equity Task Force, Pamela Ice and Steve Jensen return to tackle the complex topic of reparations. Drawing on examples like Ta-Nehisi Coates' The Case for Reparations, Hawaii's historic efforts, and Fort Worth's Broadway Baptist Church project, they explore how communities can address past injustices and pursue healing. Pamela, Steve, and Rev. T. J. also discuss the intersection of spirituality and racial equity, the role of personal race stories, and new initiatives like racial healing circles. They reflect on the challenges of engaging a whole congregation and the ongoing work to document the church's racial history. This insightful episode asks: How can we grow as a community, confront our past, and build a just future?

His life evolves around love, love for self and love for the patient in front of him. One of his mentors the great Robert Fulford, DO said love holds everything together. All people are loveable because of their inherent health however great or little it may be. The person's health, according to Dr. Friedman is vastly more intelligent than the provider. In his practice the provider is to be in tune with health or in tune with what may be lacking inherent motion. This health is perceived through “Stillness”. Perception, he says, is not a projection. In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss a tool for understanding who God created you to be that is deeply rooted in ancient Christian thinking. It's called the Enneagram. The concept of the Enneagram dates back to the earliest centuries of the ancient Eastern monastic movement, to the times of the Desert Fathers. It's most notably attributed to Evagrius Ponticus, who created a list of eight corresponding virtues and vices. These would later be incorporated into the nine points of the Enneagram. So how can Christians use this tool as a part of their ongoing walk with Christ? Episode Links While this podcast provides a great overview of the Enneagram, you can take a deeper dive into it through a four-week series delivered by James Emery White at Mecklenburg Community Church called “Finding Your Way to You: The Bible, The Enneagram and Self-Understanding.” The fourth installment of that series was an interview between Dr. White and author and speaker Suzanne Stabile. She has, by far, written the most thorough and well-researched books on this topic, and has devoted her time to helping people understand how to apply the Enneagram to their life and their relationships. You can find out more about her through her website Life in the Trinity Ministry. Her books, which really should be read in the following order, are: The Road Back to You, The Path Between Us and her latest book, The Journey Toward Wholeness. “Few people can teach you the Enneagram with the genuine insight, humor, and potential for real growth and change better than Suzanne Stabile, writes Father Richard Rohr. And after this incredible episode, we agree! Stabile is one of the world's most sought-after gurus when it comes to all things Enneagram. Today, she joins us to discuss what it means to know your number, to live a balanced life within your number, as well as to recognize when you are either in excess or unhealthy in your number. She explores in detail each of the nine individual types and how each type can be manipulated and abused in unhealthy church communities. Regardless your number, everyone of us longs to be known, to be valued, and to offer our gifts and talents to the world. Suzanne helps you recognize what those gifts are by drilling down into the motivations behind each Enneagram type. She even helps you, based on your number, choose a spiritual practice to grow your soul. Even if you don't know your Enneagram number yet, this episode will help you recognize those areas in your life where you are out of balance and teetering on pathological behavior. In this episode we discuss the reality that the Enneagram is not just a personality typing system, but is rather a tool to help you over a life-long journey of self-discovery by uncovering the traps that keep you from living fully and freely as your True Self. In a society filled with disconnect and division, how can the Enneagram guide us toward compassionate living within our communities? Suzanne Stabile, teacher and author of numerous books, including The Journey Toward Wholeness, talks with Amy Julia Becker about the Enneagram's identification of the nine different ways of seeing the world and the healing available through naming who we are. We're giving away a copy of The Journey Toward Wholeness! Go to today's post on my Instagram for more info!Guest Bio:“Suzanne Stabile is a highly sought after speaker and teacher...After 25 years of studying the enneagram, learning from people's stories, cultivating relationships, and learning under Father Richard Rohr, she has become a bestselling author and world class teacher of the Enneagram and how individuals can best utilize this spiritual tool.”Connect:suzannestabile.comInstagram: @suzannestabileFacebook: @EnneagramSuzTwitter: @SuzanneStabileOn the Podcast:Books: The Journey Toward Wholeness, The Road Back to You, The Path Between UsWorkshop: Know Your NumberSubscription Service: The TableThe Enneagram Journey podcast: episode with Morgan Harper NicholsConsolations by David WhyteSpeaking by the Numbers by Sean PalmerInterview Quotes“[The Enneagram] offers an awareness that there are nine different ways of seeing the world and your way isn't everybody else's, and that's the primary cause, I think, of all the disconnects that keep us dividing and circling the wagons and thinking we're right and everybody else is wrong.”“I've learned to ask myself three questions...‘Why am I moving toward this person? What if anything do I hope to get in return? And does the other person want my help?'...And then my fourth question has become, ‘If I say yes to this, what does that mean I'm saying no to?'”“We are an imbalanced society.”“You can't change what you can't name...[The Enneagram] names the things you already know but you have not been able to articulate about yourself. And once you can articulate them, you can do something about it.”“To assume that we're all having the same experience in a room, in a family, in a small group, in a women's group—we're just not. And to make room for difference [is]...for sure a step toward us living more compassionate lives as we try to live together in one city, town, group, school, church. All gifts are necessary.”“It doesn't matter what you have to say if people can't hear you.”__Season 5 of the Love Is Stronger Than Fear podcast connects to themes in my newest book, To Be Made Well, releasing Spring 2022. In everything from health care and politics to technology and economics, we are experiencing feelings of loss, anger, and anxiety. In the Enneagram's wisdom, our number determines how we respond. We automatically move to another number when we're feeling stress and to yet another when we're feeling secure. Such moves may help us feel better temporarily but don't last. For those who want to dive deeper into Enneagram wisdom, expert teacher Suzanne Stabile opens the concept of three Centers of Intelligence: thinking, feeling, and doing. When we learn to manage these centers, each for its intended purpose, we open a path to reducing fear, improving relationships, growing spiritually, and finding wholeness. Drawing on the dynamic stability of the Enneagram, she explains each number's preferred and repressed Center of Intelligence and its role in helping us move toward internal balance. Using brief focused chapters, this book provides what we need to deal with the constant change and complexity of our world to achieve lasting transformation in our lives.

James is president of James Mueller & Associates LLC, a national consulting firm that provides services in the areas of organizational development, governance, and philanthropy. His new book, "Onboarding Champions: The Seven Recruiting Principles of Highly Effective Nonprofit Boards" (February 23, 2021) is filled with intelligent and practical advice interwoven with a lifetime of stories about working with nonprofit boards. As an author, lecturer, philanthropic and organizational strategist, and nonprofit governance expert, James has been immersed in nonprofit sector leadership throughout his career—four decades of experience working with or serving on nonprofit boards. From higher education to health care to social service agencies, he has experienced every imaginable combination of good people trying to do good things through board service. James’s work helping nonprofits advance their missions has earned him national recognition. He has worked with nonprofit board members ranging from the highest positions of success and prominence to local communities and neighborhoods, where good people with big hearts ensure the health and well-being of their nonprofits. Completing his undergraduate education at Cornell University, followed by four years at a seminary, he was drawn to community service. The first ten years of his career were devoted to his undergraduate alma mater, followed by executive positions at Northwestern University, Advocate Healthcare, Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, and Goodwill Industries. As the father of a son with severe physical disabilities, Mueller moved to a climate that was much kinder to his son’s health complications, where he established his consulting firm, James Mueller & Associates, in 2005. In his recently released book, "Lyrics of a Broken Heart: A Father’s Journey Toward Wholeness" he writes about his experience following his son’s death. Here’s what to expect during the episode: What are these seven recruiting principles of highly effective nonprofit boards? Building a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable board. Try experiencing things outside your cultural context! The underrated significance of listening closely. Discerning professional business skills from governance.
