Wenn mol ni so veel Tied to'n Eeten moken is, denn kann man sick je wat ut‘ Iesschapp in't Backrohr schuuven. So'n Deepköhl-Pizza to'n Bispeel. Un de dorste Krom hett nix mit echten Kees to kriegen. Dor is ni mol Melk bin. De Smeerkrom is ut Planten-Fett, Proteine, Stärke, Gewürze un Glutamat mokt. Overs wat hett dat „Analog“ in Analog-Kees eegentli to bedüüden? Hüüt kinnt man analog tomeist as dat Gegedeel vun digital. Fröher geev dat to'n Bispeel blots Klocken – de mit de Wiesers an. Siet dat overs de Klocken gifft, bi de de Tied blots noch as Tohln anwiest ward, also Digital-Klocken, heet de annern Analog-Klocken. Jo, so is dat. Nu steiht bi analog in't Nokixel overs „ähnli, entspreekend, vergliekbor, stufenlos, kontinuierli“ un intwüschen even ook de Afgrenzung to digital. Kümmt wi to den Kees trüch. De dorste Analog-Kees vun de Köhlschapp-Pizza hett also nix mit echten Kees ut Melk to kriegen. Dat is wat anners. De smeckt ook ni würkli no Kees. De beiden Sooken sünd also gor ni vergliekbor. Na jo, an un för sick kann man je allns mit'neen verglieken. Katten un Tomaten to'n Bispeel. Overs blots, weil man dat verglieken deiht, ward ut Tomaten je keen Analog-Katten. Dor kann man al eher richti würzigen Kees un Stinke-Fööt verglieken, denn de Bakterien, de för't Stinken sorgt, sünd an de Fööt de glieken as in‘ so Kees. Dat is ni besünners appetitli, overs tatsächli wohr. Liekers seggt man normolerwies je ni Analog-Sweetfööt to so'n oln Tilsiter oder to Esrom oder wat dat sünst noch an Kees gifft, för den man al meist 'n Waffenschien moken mutt. Un dorüm bün ick dorför, dat de dorste Smeerkrom op de Pizza ni mehr Analog-Kees heet sünnern eher Kees-Ersatz oder wat in de Oart. Tscha. Över all dat dinkt man mol no, wenn Ju sick dat näste Mol 'n Frost-Pizza warm mokt… In düssen Sinn

Mentoring. On a macro level, mentorship should be helpful in any profession, but when it comes to the legal arena, it is more critical than most. Attorneys stress being able to learn from those who came before, helping younger attorneys shape their lives and careers in a demanding environment. Sue Light is a partner and co-head of the broker/dealer regulatory practice at Katten. An attorney with more than three decades of legal acumen, Light joined Katten five years ago after close to 30 years at the New York Stock Exchange Group, where she was held several senior leadership roles. It is also where she started mentoring younger attorneys decades ago. Light has continued those mentorship efforts at Katten, where she recently won the firm's 2024 John P. Sieger Excellence in Mentoring Award, which is given annually by the firm to one attorney and one business professional. In an interview with Legal Speak's Patrick Smith, Light discusses the award itself, the motivations she has for spending her time and resources assisting others and why she feels mentorship is important.

It is now 1648. In this episode, two tough guys, Johan "Big Belly" Printz of New Sweden and Peter "Peg Leg" Stuyvesant of New Netherland, escalate their competition to control the critical Delaware River, now an essential artery for the fur trade coming out of Susquehannock territory in Pennsylvania and points farther west. Sweden and Netherland were at peace in Europe, so there would be no shooting, but all sorts of guns would be pointed without pulling the trigger or lighting the match. Eventually, the Dutch would put together the largest European army in North America since Soto and Coronado in the 1540s, and put an end to New Sweden as a political entity, raising the Dutch flag over the forts at today's New Castle and Wilmington, Delaware. Along the way we hear the horrific story of the Katten, a Swedish ship full of settlers that ran aground just off Puerto Rico. Everybody survived the immediate crisis, only to fall into the hands of the Spanish and then the French on St. Croix. Folks, don't let that happen to you. In this week's episode, we dive deep into the critical intersection of law, ESG, and racial equity with our guest, Johnjerica Hodge. As a partner at Katten and co-chair of their ESG risk and investigations practice, Johnjerica plays a vital role in guiding companies through the complexities of maintaining their ESG and DEI commitments while facing legal challenges. We discuss the importance of supply chain inclusion and supplier diversity, as well as the evolving landscape of ESG in corporate practices. John Jericho shares practical tips and insights for companies navigating these issues and emphasizes the need for continuous adaptation and awareness in the ever-changing ESG space. Johnjerica Hodge is a partner at Katten and co-chair of their ESG risk and investigations practice. With over seven years of experience at the firm, she has handled various internal and governmental investigations, corporate compliance, and ethics work. Her work in the ESG space began last year when she realized clients' growing needs in this area. Johnjerica and her co-chair, India Williams, started teaching a course on ESG at their alma mater, the University of Alabama, focusing on racial equity audits in the ESG paradigm. They have also contracted a publisher for an upcoming book on ESG. Johnjerica's expertise in ESG, racial equity audits, and legal matters makes her a valuable resource for companies navigating the complexities of ESG and DEI commitments. “Everyone is trying to get to a certain level. And so, some of the companies we speak with, they are very, very ESG savvy. They've implemented the policies, implemented the procedures, they are doing the monitoring, they feel comfortable, and they are near the forefront of the space.”~Johnjerica Hodge Today on Breaking Barriers: ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) is a cross-generational topic that requires inclusivity in various aspects such as racial equity, age diversity, and gender diversity. ESG is not just a concern for public companies but also for private companies, as research shows that companies embracing ESG are more profitable and have better outcomes in bankruptcy. Small and diverse businesses should pay attention to ESG because they are part of supply chains and may need to meet certain criteria set by the companies they supply to. Legislation, such as the German Supply Chain Act, requires companies to report on ESG aspects of their supply chain, which can impact small suppliers even if they don't operate in that specific country. In-house legal teams should ensure they have a strong grasp of their organization's DE&I initiatives, including supplier diversity programs, and regularly update their policies and procedures. It is important to stay informed about legal developments, such as court rulings and state attorney general letters, that may impact DE&I programs and supplier diversity. Companies should conduct a risk analysis and consider making language changes to align their DE&I programs with legal requirements and mitigate potential legal risks. ESG will continue to be a primary concern for companies in the next three years and beyond, as it impacts the bottom line and is influenced by global legislation and market trends.
