As a follow up to my 2-part interview on food and our kitchen energy with Liza Baker of Simply: Health Coaching, it’s time to talk more about Purifying in the kitchen! To be effective, enjoyable spaces for food preparation – and eating – it is vital for our kitchens’ energy to be clear and fresh. One of the best ways to accomplish this is through Purifying. In this episode, I briefly cover Purifying these categories of kitchen belongings: Pots and pans Cooking and serving utensils Eating utensils Dishes and glassware Food storage containers Wraps, foil, and bags Small appliances Gadgets Cookbooks There is a benefit to Purifying a room that has so many different categories. It allows you to easily take it one step at a time as you sort through each one. Here are a few steps to follow as you Purify in the kitchen: Breathe: Receive a few deep, centering breaths to ground and center yourself. Get clear about what your intentions are. Talk with Each Other: If you share your kitchen with another, be sure to communicate. Share your ideas about Purifying and ask for their input. If more than one person cooks in the kitchen, consider collaborating on your kitchen Purification. Identify Your Categories: Your categories may differ from my list above. Take a tour of your kitchen to identify your unique categories. Be sure to consider if there are kitchen belongings that are stored in another area of the home. Write your categories down. This will serve as a basis for your Purification plan. Choose Your Starting Point: Select a category to begin with. Choosing a smaller category or one with less volume of belongings may help! Clear Your Space: Create a clear, open space for Purifying. This may be the kitchen table, island, or even a clean space on the kitchen or living room floor. Give yourself plenty of space to spread items so you can see everything clearly. Sort Your Belongings: Move through each category on your list. Create piles for keep, let go, recycle, and trash. Select a Temporary Storage Space: If you’re not able to donate or otherwise distribute your ‘let go’ belongings right away, create a temporary storage space. This is a vital step so you don’t end up stuffing these objects back into kitchen storage areas! Re-Place and Organize: Put away your ‘keep’ items in a way that makes sense to you. Organize these belongings so you can access them easily and quickly, as needed. Keep it simple. REMEMBER: There Are No Rules: You get to set up your kitchen in any way that makes the most sense to you. Links From This Episode etee: Source for plastic-free food storage. Purifying – in general – is all about what we choose to carry with us into the next phase of life – and what we choose to let go. Purifying in our purses, handbags and wallets is about what we literally carry with us every day! The contents of these awesome containers can tell us a lot about ourselves. And, because we see them everyday, we may no longer really see them. When you give yourself the time to Purify in these areas, you get to see them with fresh eyes and reflect: What do you want to carry with you? What has gathered here unconsciously? What heavy weight (literal or figurative) can you shed? See the steps below for guidance on Purifying in your purse, handbag and wallet. You can create your own ritual to revisit as needed. Steps to Purify Your Purse, Handbag & Wallet Take a peak into your handbag or wallet. Notice – without judgment – what has gathered there. Clear a space for Purifying. Give yourself an open, sacred space to work. Consider creating a small altar, smudging, or another ritual. Sit or stand in Presence. Receive a few deep, centering breaths. Feel yourself rooted and grounded. Empty out your handbag and/or wallet. Spread the contents out so you can see them – and feel them energetically. Look at it all with eyes of acceptance. Bring an open, spacious attitude. No judgment. Tune in energetically. Feel what comes up as you look at – and maybe pick up – each object. Allow your intuition to speak to you about what you want to carry and what belongs elsewhere. Notice any themes that arise. Be aware of how these belongings reflect what is happening within. This is the inner Purification. Move the objects into categories. Putting ‘like things’ together will help you see these belongings more clearly. Sort the belongings. Create piles for keep in the bag or wallet, move elsewhere, recycle, and toss. Look at your purse, handbag and/or wallet. Notice how your feel about these containers. Refill your purse, handbag and/or wallet. Allow these spaces to be organized and clear. Add anything extra. Notice if there are other belongings that you intentionally want to carry. These are things that can support you while you’re out in the world. Almost a year ago now I chatted with Annie Jones, an independent bookshop owner — she owns The Bookshelf, in right in the heart of beautiful Thomasville, Georgia. In our chat, Annie shares what it was like to start off as a bookshop owner with zero business background, and the things she had to learn on the sales floor about things like managing a team, and deciding what her community liked — and didn’t like — to read. At the end of the day, Annie's focus is about how to keep the lights on doing something that she confesses is more work than she ever imagined, but wouldn’t trade for the world. I know you’ll love her. Links From This Episode:

It’s sorta like a start-up to support start-ups with a social focus. Summer is almost over and we're serving a comeback episode -- it's the return after our summer hiatus and Derek Johnson joins as guest co-host, the archaic pullout method is making a comeback, too, and we're sharing the hot and interesting finds from CES NY and GetGeeked 2017. Yes, the Pullout Method; people still use it...we try to figure out WHY. Then, there's the JifTip...which is odd, but may work (if it works at all) in conjunction with pulling out or else you may be in severe pain. More things people are doing that's highly suspect and questionable...Coca Cola Tanning; yes, it's exactly what it sounds like. Beards (the hair, not the people); some fool thinks they have the power to keep men from 'becoming' homosexuals. And more things we chat: Usher Raymond and his herpes debacle; the guy with 30 kids, 11 baby mamas, a minimum wage job, and $1.49 per month to contribute towards child support; and the man who built a house for his immediate family, extended family, and some friends...is it a home or a cult? Talk Du Jour was swapped for the CES NY/GetGeeked 2017 roundup; links at the end of the episode notes, but the goodies include: Polaroid POP Instant Print Digital Camera, BOND (Smart Bond), tactical light treasures (i.e., Sidekick, Backup MaxVision) from SureFire, Muse (meditation headband), and the amazing ZEEQ pillow (you won't believe what all it does). As for features, there's Would You Like Fries With That?, The Butcher's Block, and def be sure to get into Messy Connections. Tune in to hear us chat and share: Great advice for English speakers who want to have early success in a new language Language learning is such a complicated jigsaw puzzle, so how can we really track what we have actually learnt? Is it presumptuous, are you lacking humility if you set yourself a big, impressive goal? Its always been a funny thing to say to someone to "Take a cold shower," but it may be one of the best tips that you have ever been given. There are many benefits of taking a cold shower if you can handle it. I have been doing it for about three weeks now, and in addition to diet, have seen a pretty nice drop in body fat. I recently started reading the 4 Hour Body and have tried a bunch of the crazy experiments to see exactly how they work. I have found many positive results in my body and will continue to experiment and see exactly where this rabbit hole leads. Cold showers burn fat:this is initially what attracted me to them. In the 4 Hour Body, Tim Ferriss speaks about a massive increase in body fat burning. He started by looking at swimmers and why they can consume such a massive amount of calories and not go up in body fat. Their massive amount of swimming, 3-4 hours daily can contribute to this, but they still do not swim enough to burn the massive amount of calories, such as the 12,000 taken in by Michael Phelps a day. When looking at it, they found the high level of heat of the pool really magnified calorie burn, but to an extreme. So a NASA scientist, looking to make himself a bit skinnier and not willing to sit in a pool for 4 hours a day, checked out cold exposure and found that it burned more calories in significantly less time; 10-20 minutes. So Ferriss looked at this and started taking ice baths for 20 minutes a day, I'm totally not doing that because of the immense amount of pain it can potentially create. Then, there was a break through in types of fat that the human body carries. We have two types of fat in our bodies, white and brow. The brown fat is actually a fat that burns other fat, like the type in muscle milk, is stored in the back of your shoulders and activated by extreme cold or extreme heat. So, set your timer for ten minutes, clean yourself quick, then turn the water cold. Make sure to focus all of that shower on the back of your neck and upper shoulders and let the body fat burn! Cold showers boost workout recovery:Ever heard of pro athletes sitting in an ice bath for 20-30 minutes to recover faster? Well, not you can have most of those results in a significantly shorter and less painful time. Cold showers stop lactic acid build up as well as removing inflammation that may be starting in a muscle or the whole body for that matter. Cold showers can enhance mood:your heart rate increases from a cold shower and thus your body process speed up a bit. Therefore, they wake you up and make you feel a bit better by catching your groggy body up with the rest of the world. Cold showers enhance immunity:Remember since cold showers are speeding your metabolism, they are actually speeding up your total metabolic rate. With that comes a greater sense of wellness and a greater ability to fight off disease. You may think I'm bit crazy, but remember to put on a timer. Also, go back and reference the first reason: you only need to do it for ten minutes a day and it only needs to hit your neck and shoulders. Your body will actually really appreciate your new found sense of adventure. Now, go take a cold shower.
