A miscarriage, a huge Christmas Day fight, and the decision to make a change. Jen Riday was able to pivot and find her happiness as a married woman. Through her experience, she proves to us that if you're feeling stuck, divorce isn't always the answer. Maybe all you need is an intuitive hit and the mindfulness to create time for your self-care. Tune in to this episode on Choosing Your Happiness in Marriage with Jen Riday Key points covered in this episode:  ✔️ All you need is five minutes. Yoga is Jen Riday's choice of grounding activity. If you're scared of starting a new activity, remember that all good things are on the other side of fear. Your brain (and even your partner) will thank you for it. ✔️ Expand time. The more you believe you have time, the more it's true. Cut out activities that don't serve you. For Jen Riday, it's social media and streaming, unless it's with family. ✔️ Accept your partner's differences. They don't always have to enjoy the same things you do. But their presence and energy must transform you and allow you to live unapologetically YOU. Give each other the grace to let them be who they want to be. ✔️ How happy are you willing to let yourself feel? Your happiness is your responsibility, and you get to create it. Think of ways to make today great, and allow yourself to do it! ✔️ Happiness is the greatest gift you can give. If you can do the things that make you feel truly alive, it's not a selfish act – it's everything you need to share your vibrancy with the world. -------------------- Dr. Jen Riday is the founder of the Vibrant Happy Women movement, host of the Vibrant Happy Women Podcast, and mom of 6. In this episode of Hidden Potential Podcast, Jen Riday talks about the importance of setting boundaries with our loved ones and friends. It's very easy to be affected by someone else's energy and to let them dictate how you will feel. This happens because a) you did not set specific boundaries in the relationship and b) you need to do some inner work to be the only one responsible for your happiness. In her podcast Vibrant Happy Women, Jen also talks about this concept, diving deep into the idea of ‘stuckness'. If you are feeling stuck and don't know the next step to take when it comes to your work or personal projects, it's important to sit with yourself, observe your feelings and thoughts, analyze what's going wrong and right, and then the decision will come easily. Tune in to listen to the entire interview! “If you ever feel like you don't know what's next, just stay there and do all the things that fuel your soul.” – Jen Riday   Key Timestamps [1:31] – Round of personal questions; [5:28] – Jen's pivot moment when she decided to be happy no matter what; [7:48] – How not to go back to a state of pain; [12:21] – Jen's advice for people who are feeling stuck; [13:48] – How to effectively set boundaries; [17:33] – How to preserve your energy through boundary setting; [22:08] – Making decisions out of fear vs. intuition; [26:10] – A little bit of stress can be good; [30:56] – Success can be different for each one of us; [35:38] – The importance of setting achievable goals; [40:41] – Jen explains how thoughts create actions; [47:08] – Final message: drop the “women should” mentality. Laura Doyle struggled for years in her marriage until she finally learned the art of letting go of expectations. Learn how she did, how it helped her husband like being around her again, and how Laura is happier than she’s ever been in her relationship. You can explore more at www.lauradoyle.org Nuggets of Wisdom from Laura: "I stopped trying to control my husband and instead, I focused on my own happiness. And that, in turn improved what he sees. I suffered so much in my marriage. I tried everything I could think of, went to marriage counselling and none of that worked for me. And now I know what actually works to make marriage magical again." "Restoring respect in your relationship in one of the intimacy skills. Respect is like oxygen for husbands. That is how important it is to them. And when they feel respected, they feel loved." "Intimacy is not just in the bedroom. It is the interactions, the tenders, the funnies, sometimes it’s those interactions you wouldn’t have with anyone else in the whole world. The physical intimacy is the one thing that differentiates the romance from any other relationship you have in the world. Intimacy is when I feel desired. It’s when I feel that he is seeking my company and when he is sharing with me openly because he feels there is emotional safety. That’s when I know the intimacy is high." "The only person you can ever control is yourself. And then when I did change, my husband responded to me so differently. It was so much better, like ten times better. For me, it was actually good news." "Only happy people can have happy relationships. It’s unspeakably wonderful to feel so loved every single day. It gives me a lot of inner strength and I say that not to brag but just to say: This is what’s possible for all women. Cause all husbands respond so beautifully to being respected and they want to make their wives happy." Some of Laura's Favorite Things: "Most women feel it’s awful until they do it. And that habit is apologizing to my husband when I am disrespectful. I apologize for being disrespectful… I honor my husband’s thinking. Express your desires in a way that inspires. To let him hear what I wanted instead of complaining. Instead of saying: John, this place is a disaster area! I would say: John, I would love a clean kitchen." Favorite kitchen gadget: "My Zester. It adds so much flavor." Rachael's Favorite Books: "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus by John Gray" Laura's Happiness Formula: "Asking myself these two questions. How do I feel? What do I want? Desire is the seat of feminine power. Communicate with everyone around me in a way that’s honoring of me but also showing up as a delight and not a bear. Not a martyr, and not a nag, not a porcupine but someone who can smile because you are all filled up." A Challenge from Laura: "Get Cherished.com 5 days challenge. Everyday for five days, I will send you an email and do an experiment that’s gonna give you an unfair advantage and making your relationship vibrant and easy. If it works for you, keep it." Ever wished you could work less so you could live more? After an incident with her son’s childcare provider, Jocelyn Sams realized she was giving too much control of her life to other people. She and her husband Shane decided to give up teaching and create an online business so they could have the flexibility and freedom they needed to spend more time with their kids - all while working only 10-15 hours/week. In this episode Jocelyn shares exactly how they did it. Today’s guest is Jocelyn Sams, part of the dynamic duo behind FlippedLifestyle.com. Jocelyn and her husband Shane are former school teachers. After years of bad bosses, job losses, and frustration at work, they started an online business. That business made it possible to quit their jobs, spend more time with family and earn millions in passive income online - all while working only 10-15 hours per week! Now, they are helping other families do the same by connecting with people through their Flipped Lifestyle podcast, website and inside their Flip Your Life community. A Challenge from Joceyln: "Put everything on a calendar, starting with your non-negotiables like work, sleep, eating dinner, eating lunch.... Once you get those things on there, move on to the things you want to do - things like working on a business, spending more time with your children - whatever it is you want to do, calendar those in after your non-negotiables. Laugh at the things that happened because it hurts more when someone laughs at you, than when you laugh about what happened to yourself." "Just don't take everything seriously; otherwise, you'll end up getting hurt by what other people think about you." "All I wanted to do was to prove to the world that coming from a broken family doesn't mean that you have to be a broken person." "You have the choice to make your life-whatever it is you want to be!" "I was determined to finish my studies and be something better!" Dana is the author of Boss Mom: The Ultimate Guide to Raising a Business & Nurturing Your Family Like a Pro, and the founder of Boss Mom. She serves Boss Moms who yearn for more time and less guilt when it comes to building their business and raising their family, by providing the tools they need to get more out of their content and business, without sacrificing their family goals. Nuggets of Wisdom from Dana: "If you want to be a true influencer, then you should speak to create other influencers. Our influence is based around creating other influencers." "Good mom for me means playfulness and attentiveness." "So attentiveness to me means that I'm outwardly always trying to make sure I see what my kids need and trying to fulfill that in a way that makes sense to us in our family. " "I think you should always try to be something more than a mom." "You are so much more than one role, and we should strive to figure out what fulfills us outside of being a parent and outside of being a wife and outside of just being a business owner." "It's a really important lesson for your kids to learn and it's a really important lesson for you to learn that your kids aren't the center of the world too, cause it's hard not to feel that way about them sometimes." "When you're confident about your decisions, then guilt has no place in your life." "The reason we feel guilty is because we're not sure we're doing the right thing." "There are a lot of ways, and a lot of those ways compiled together equal the right way for you. It has to be about collecting the puzzle pieces and fitting them together and being confident about how you're fitting them together." "If you don't wan't to feel guilty then continually assess every single day what your overall priorities are. What is it that you're trying to achieve, and what are the big things that have to be done? Don't do your business and family separately because those are two big whole buckets." "What's important to us right now, tomorrow, over this next 30 days, or next year? What do we care about? Which one is more important? Sometimes my business wins, and sometimes my family wins. I don't feel bad about it." Some of Dana's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "We eat, we hang out and play around. We engage with each other. We do some fun things with my kids in the morning." "The habit is the assessment of my priorities, looking at what has to get done, seeing if I can delegate that out and reminding myself that I'm losing money in my business by doing things myself all the time." Easy meal: "Brown rice packets, chicken apple sausage, Thai peanut sauce, veggies." Favorite kitchen gadget: "wine opener" Danielle's Favorite Books: "The Five Love Languages" and "The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran" and "Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert" Best advice received: "Business is people. Life is people. If you can't learn how to show people how they are loved and valued and connect with people with empathy and compassion, then you're going to be left feeling alone and sad." Dana's Happiness Formula: 1. "Learn to recognize your happy moments." 2. "Know that others see you differently and that you're often too hard on yourself. Listen to people that tell you nice things." 3. "Recognize when you're not happy and take an assessment on what's not working and tweak it. Don't sit in unhappiness and fester there for a long time. It doesn't help anybody." A Challenge from Dana: "I want you to take the next three days and time map what you do in your day, where you spend your time. At the end of those 3 days, look at that time mapping. Look at what you are doing, where you are spending your time, whether you are spending your time doing things that make you happy and fulfill you and that you think are actually helping you get to where you want to go in your life - and the amount of time you are spending doing things that do not fulfill you and actually empty your cup. Get really serious about finding the kind of support you need through this community, through other communities, you know, through your friends and your networks. To pull yourself more into the time you are spending, doing the things that fill you and that you love, and it all starts by assessing what you are doing right now." Like attracts like. When you focus on the positive, your brain will find more of the positive. This happens because of your brain's Reticular Activating System, which filters information in a way to help you support what you believe. Jen Riday is the host of a podcast called Vibrant Happy Women, and she is the epitome of that name! Ladies, be aware that major creative and special sparks flew during this episode. The synergy that can happen on a podcast interview is kind of amazing. I LOVED Jen when she interviewed me on her podcast, and loved her even more when I had the chance to chat with her for an episode of MY podcast! She is a remarkable insightful woman and you would be smart to follow her podcast as well as this one. We talked a lot about motherhood and how imperative it is that we create joy in the center of our homes. I LOVED how she compared mothers to the sun, with planets- our kids and spouses- orbiting around us, and how if we are happy it effects that orbit and energy. It's the phrase, happy wife happy life, right? But a lot more spectacular than that. The best thing that happened on this episode was the validation of how IMPORTANT it is to take care of myself before I can take care of my family. Following my dreams, passions and desires only makes me better, it doesn't take away that love I have for my children! Meditation is something I have been thinking about, as well as this craving for yoga, and Jen brought all of it right to me with her belief that an hour of yoga is as good as weekend away. Thank you Jen for having such a great conversation with me, sharing your insight as a mother of 6 children and proponent of happiness and vibrance!

In this episode Tammy Cannon shares her experiences of being a busy, overwhelmed mom of 3 kids under age 3 and how learning to ask for help made all the difference in her happiness. Now, as a mom of 3 teens, Tammy does a fantastic job balancing motherhood with her love of learning, her creativity, and her desire to help other women create a business doing something they love. Tammy Cannon is the owner of Cannon Social Media helping creative business owners leverage online marketing. Tammy lives in Snohomish, WA with her husband and 3 teens. In her spare time Tammy loves cooking, gardening, and hiking. Nuggets of Wisdom from Tammy: "Dom Perignon: Come quickly, I am tasting the stars." "Happy accidents can happen at anytime and just to be ready for them, to be excited and curious about life because you just never know when something amazing is going to happen." "I am a really curious person. I love learning... And so I just love life and being curious and being hopeful  for whatever is to come." "I realized at that time, I didn't know how to ask for help. Being a mother of 3 young children was not something that was modeled for me. I mean, my parents were working and I am an only child, and things were very quiet and organized, and I didn't have any relatives around me, to just kind of see what that looked like until a friend of mine, she is a few years behind me and having kids but once she started having her babies, I watched her really organize her life and asked for help when she needed it. So she got on care.com and got herself a house cleaner and a really good baby sitter, but not just one but a couple when that one didn't meet the time. She'd catch her date night with her husband. And so, I was looking at that and said, 'Wow, I just didn't ask for help.' I didn't recognize that I just really needed the help, but I do not know if it was ego or just not having you know the modeling for myself. I just didn't really know how to go about it." "So, I think that it is really important that we have the confidence to actually create the things that we love and maximize that time, but there is nothing wrong with profiting from that stuff and actually starting you know a small business, a side business, whatever it is to you, be yourself. You know, give that time back to yourself. I mean, we give our time to our kids and our family, we volunteer, we are out and about. But to really sit and be creative, or to start something new just for yourself is pretty awesome." "Recently, I have discovered that I really need to set boundaries around myself, and the boundaries are going to help me get more respect for my family and myself, respect in myself. And also confidence to charge what I work and to follow through with those boundaries." Some of Tammy's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "I love learning. So, I read a lot of books, a lot of blog articles. I take a lot of online courses. I just really love learning new things and learning how to apply them in my own life and then teaching them to other people." Easy meal: "Quinoa salad. Quinoa grains that you cook really simply and then you ad red wine vinegar, like a little vinaigrette to it. And then you can corn sometimes, red onions, you just add in your veggies and then let it sit in the refrigerator. It is great for potluck, for just a side salad, for everything." Favorite kitchen gadget: "Coffee grinder" Tammy's Favorite Books:  "Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss" and "Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty" Best advice received: "That is the way it should be. We go through life not recognizing that we just need to dream big and go after it." Tammy's Happiness Formula: "Really just sitting down and breaking bread with friends and family is super huge to me. Combine that with learning something new. And a sunny day. And I am the happiest girl in the world." A Challenge from Tammy: "I would love for your listeners to download that freebie (5 Steps to a Growth Mindset) and fill it out and over the next 30, 60 or 90 days, pick one big hairy goal, one over-arching goal that you are trying to achieve. "Because when we think that we are our beliefs, that'S where so much anxiety and discomfort and distress in our brains comes from." "The thing that people don't realize is that what you accrue along the way, you can't even think of right now. You do not even know what it's going to be." "I generally stay away from gluten and dairy. I feel like when I eat flour, it makes me feel really bloated. And when I eat dairy, it makes my skin break out." "My life's mission is in my own personal life is to bridge that gap between really loving my food and making sure that it is serving me and not harming me." "I really think that judgment is a mirror. Despite having a successful blog and business, Crystal Paine found herself feeling burnt out and not really excited about anything at all. So she made the choice to untangle herself from her business obligations so she could take a year of rest and have that time to pour into herself so she could better pour into others. During that year Crystal did things that brought her true joy, including spending time with her kids, completely overhauling her health and enjoying the freedom to be more spontaneous, adventurous and creative. If the idea of a year of rest appeals to you, then you're going to love this episode. Crystal Paine a New York Times bestselling author, speaker, business consultant, and the founder of MoneySavingMom.com. MoneySavingMom.com was started in 2007 as an offshoot of a mommy blog Crystal had and has since grown to be one of the top personal finance blogs on the web averaging over 1.5 million unique visitors per month. 'I wanted to say yes to my family, yes to fun, and yes to things that were going to scare me a little bit but hopefully help me break free from fears and anxiety and be able to just walk in more freedom in my life." "I said yes to my health." "When I broke free from not being dependent upon coffee to survive, then I realized that I felt so empowered in other areas in my life....I needed to break free from that because it was causing me to have anxiety, it was hindering my sleep, and that then was contributing to other health problems. But it was also that I was looking to this thing, this drink that I was drinking, to give me the energy to do what I needed to do, instead of just getting enough sleep and taking care of myself and eating healthy so that I could have the inner strength to do what I needed to do." "I wanted people to see that I am not at all as brave or courageous as people assume that I must be, and that there's a lot of things like making phone calls or talking to people that I don't know well that scare me. But I have learned that the more that I make myself face those fears and do those things, the more that I feel empowered, and so when I step outside my comfort zone, the more that I do it, then over time my comfort zone moves, and I am able to then face more fears and go farther because I didn't just stay where it is all safe." Some of Crystal's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "Writing out daily to-do-lists. I’ve done for years and years. Google calendar for family, team. I brain dump everything into Google calendar as all-day tasks." Easy meal: "Salmon, bake it in the oven, with brown rice with sweet potato fries and roasted broccoli. Salad with a homemade dressing." When challenges come, we often launch into a state of stress and feelings of inadequacy. In this episode guest Kate Northrup shares why it's critical that we address the HOW of dealing with a situation more than the WHAT. Specifically, Kate believes we need to approach a difficulty from a perspective of love, positivity, presence and intuition. When we do that, everything else is easy.  As an entrepreneur, bestselling author, mother, and activist, Kate Northrup supports ambitious, motivated and successful women to light up the world without burning themselves out in the process. Committed to empowering women entrepreneurs to create their most successful businesses while navigating motherhood, Kate is the founder and CEO of Origin Collective, a monthly membership site where women all over the world gather to achieve more while doing less. Her first book, Money: A Love Story, has been published in 5 languages. Kate’s work has been featured by The Today Show, Yahoo! Finance, Women’s Health, Glamour, and The Huffington Post and she’s spoken to audiences of thousands with Hay House, Wanderlust, YouSANA Health Sciences, and more. Kate lives with her husband and business partner, Mike, and their daughter Penelope in Maine. Join Kate's FREE Sustainable Success Workshop to learn more about the art of balancing mothering and entrepreneurship. Nuggets of Wisdom from Kate: “The art of life is not in controlling what happens to us, but in using what happens to us.” - Gloria Steinem "What I love about this quote is it really articulates what I have been learning, not only in motherhood, but also in business, which is that we cannot actually control what happens in our lives to a large extent, but we can control our response to it, of course, and we can use what happens as fodder for learning information, to change our course of action, and as an opportunity for growth. And so, this just deeply resonates with me for that reason. " "It's not so much WHAT we do, it’s the HOW we do it. The HOW we do anything is really going to impact our results far more than WHAT that we actually do. We know that from sports psychology that the more awareness and the more consciousness we bring to our workouts for example, and the more presence we bring, the better our results will be." "Part of what’s been really amazing about scheduling things according to my cycle and also being super clear on when I have childcare and when I don’t and when I’m working and when I’m not, has been that predictability. I find myself so much more calm." "If we actually honor the gifts of the luteal phase, which is the slowing down, it’s a really great time to wrap up loose ends, to complete projects, to check things off your to-do list. It’s actually a super powerful time to address things, and get done." "We can’t control the weather, we can’t control our children, we can’t control other people, we can’t control the economy, we can’t control the government… there are so many things that we can’t control, and yet all of us crave predictability. So, for me, you know, I really crave that." Some of Kate's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "Scheduling and calendaring. I think this is a theme of our conversation. I have kept a day timer.  I started using a day timer when I was 14 years old. And just having things written down so I could look at the week and kind of know what it’s going to bring and design my life according to what brings me the most joy has been an ongoing habit my entire life." Easy meal: "We always kind of have like chicken, organic chicken sausage of some kind in the fridge, because it keeps really well and my daughter really loves to eat it. So, if I just don’t have much time, I take a big huge handful of spinach and sauté it up with some organic chicken sausage, cut up in little pieces, and I eat that, and it’s delicious. And it takes me like 5 minutes." Possession: "I really love my lemon squeezer." Morning Elixir Recipe: warm water, juice from half a lemon, dash of cayenne pepper, 1/4 t. raw honey, 1 T. apple cider vinegar, and some grated fresh ginger. Kate's Favorite Books: "Carry on, Warrior by Glennon Doyle-Melton and Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott" Best advice received: "Read your baby, not a book." Kate's Happiness Formula: Decide that you want to be happy. In the moment, whenever you notice that you are veering off ,which is really easy to do, and you’ll do it all day long, look for things in your environment that are pleasing to you, or that you could feel gratitude for. Breathing. Community. Having a tribe. Investing in the people that you love and those relationships because those bring the greatest joy. A Challenge from Kate: "I would like you to try looking at your schedule, and asking yourself if there is anything that you see in the upcoming week that feels heavy or feels draining to you like is it something that you just look at and, 'Uhhh, I don’t want to do that.' And if there is something, then I would ask you to look at it and ask could that thing be cancelled? Could it be rescheduled? Could it be shifted in some way? Could that task change? Or could it be delegated? Could somebody else do it?" We can transform our health when we follow the holistic approach of Aryurveda, the world's oldest healing system, which focuses on mind, body, spirit and the 5 senses. In this episode Ananta Ripa Ajmera shares that health is our birthright - our true nature - and shares numerous practices from her book The Ayurveda Way: 108 Practices from the World's Oldest Healing System for Better Sleep, Less Stress, Optimal Digestion, and More. Ananta brings home the idea that true health focuses on so much more than just our body and definitely includes elements of "healthy selfishness" and cultivating a relationship with our own higher selves.  Ananta Ripa Ajmera is committed to making Ayurveda understandable and applicable to a diverse, modern audience. She teaches Ayurveda lifestyle, stress management, and meditation at yoga and business conferences and for clients including ABC News, Stanford University, and the California probation departments. Ajmera studied yoga and Ayurveda with Acharya Shunya and serves as Branding and Yoga Studies Director for Vedika Global, Acharya Shunya’s school. Her writing is popular on MindBodyGreen, Elephant Journal, and The Huffington Post. Nuggets of Wisdom from Ananta: "When you sow a thought, you reap an action. When you sow an action, you reap a habit. You sow a habit, you reap a character. And when you sow a character, you reap a destiny." ~the Upanishads "We are so often taught to believe that everything worth having in this life is somewhere outside, and it has to be attained by doing something. By affirming that actually everything that I am searching for lies within me, it's just a very empowering way to start the day." "Ayurveda is the science of life. It is as old as life itself. Ayurveda looks at four dimensions of the human being: the body, mind, spirit, and the five senses." "Ayurveda is defined as that science which teaches us how to distinguish between those actions that bring us joy and those that bring us sorrow. Because joy-filled actions are what give us health, and, you know, they define the joy-giving actions as those that benefit not only ourselves but others, so, compassion and service are actually an inherent part of the practice and lifestyle of Ayurveda." "Health is your birthright. Health is your true nature. And I think, for me, being able to connect with that and being able to connect with the idea of freeing my spirit has been the key to developing the willpower and the strength to be able to make diet and lifestyle changes which Ayurveda recommends for being able to bring my body then into balance. For me the suffering that I had really started in my mind. And it started from just being disconnected." "We kind of know that certain habits are not helpful for us. We know better, but we don't do better." "Go slow. Really go slow and make anything that you choose sustainable." Some of Ananta's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "Waking up early by 6 o'clock in the morning." Easy meal: "Khichadi. It is an extremely healthy recipe, and it's really delicious, and it is something that is particularly good in detoxing the body, so it's great in the spring season." Favorite kitchen gadget: Magic Bullet blender. Emma's Favorite Books: "Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom: A Complete Prescription to Optimize Your Health, Prevent Disease, and Live with Vitality and Joy" Best advice received: "Give when feeling full." Ananta's Happiness Formula: "I'm happiest when I listen to my intuition." A Challenge from Ananta: "To really contemplate one thing that you would like to start to incorporate into your life to benefit your health, body, mind, and your spirit. And really think it through before you commit to it. So, don't make it like a New Year's resolution, but really commit to a mindful intention or resolution that you want to do. And then I challenge you to write it down, and then make that your first step to manifesting whatever your intention is, and revisit it, and rewrite it, and really, you know, take that one thing and plant it like a seed in the garden of your mind, and see what kind of beautiful flowers start to grow in your life as a result." Do you ever feel trapped by your busy life? Desperate for a little more freedom? Beth Kempton felt the same way. While pregnant with her second child Beth found herself completely burnt out and feeling trapped by her busy schedule. Beth arranged her affairs as they say, and took a 5-month break to relax. During this time she did a lot of thinking and figured out the 8 keys to finding freedom, which she shares with us in this episode. Beth Kempton is a fierce champion of women living free and happy lives, doing what they love. If you were to read her resume from her early career it would include stints working for the UN and at many of the world's top sports events like the Olympics, hosting her own TV show, and the fact that she speaks Japanese, but the most important thing to know about her life now is that she is on a mission to inspire all of us to fly free. For the past six years she has run a company called Do What You Love which has helped thousands of people to create a life that makes them happy, through online courses and retreats. She is also a wife and mother of two sweet girls, and has recently become a Hay House author. Her first book 'Freedom Seeker: Live more. Worry less. Do what you love.' has just come out. Nuggets of Wisdom from Beth: "What you can do, or dream you can, begin it; boldness has genius, power, and magic in it." ~Goethe "If you can see something in your mind's eye, then you almost already know how to do that thing. And when you really do that you become bold and you take those difficult steps and you start to see magic unfold." "For the first time I could see what cage I was trapped in, what it was that was holding me back from the fuller life I used to know...I was just this shell of myself, feeling guilty all the time, not running my business properly, not being a good mother...I was never where I was supposed to be. So if I was playing on the carpet with my baby my hands would be in the game and my head would be in my inbox." "What I discovered was that the key was taking my mind to somewhere where I could get head space and heart space." "It was almost like I saw a free version of myself out in the world and I asked myself, 'What did she have that I don't have now?' And realized that it was space. She had a vast amount of space, both physical space in the places she was visiting, but also space in her day, space in her mind, quiet... And I had none of those things. I was very heavily pregnant so it wasn't really realistic to get on a plane and go to Siberia. But I thought, 'How can I make some space?' and I started really small with 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there... I would just go outside and stand on the grass and look at the sun or have a cup of tea and read Flow Magazine. And then that would build up, I'd go to a yoga class or spend half a day walking on the beach. And that made a big difference and I felt better." Some of Beth's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "I'm really bad at habits. I have a lot of good intentions. I think my lust for adventure and for wanting things to be fresh and new means I'm very, very bad at habits. But I do know that I'm much better in going through my day when I'm organized, so I do like to sit down and plan my week and have a moment of quiet with a cup of tea." Easy meal: "Miso and rice. I lived in Japan so it's definitely my favorite." Favorite kitchen gadget: "Rice cooker." Emma's Favorite Books: The Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman. Phenomenal by Leigh Ann Henion Best advice received: "Moisturize your neck every day."~Beth's Mom  "Keep your eye on the prize. Don't let other people's opinions of how big your idea can be LIMIT your opinion of how big your idea can be."~Lord David Putnam Beth's Happiness Formula: "Love + Adventure + Freedom." "Happiness is something that happens on the side when you aim to feel free." A Challenge from Beth: "Ask yourself today what it is that's making you feel trapped and to take yourself to a place when you've felt free in your life and look at the difference and think what can you do right now, in this moment, to feel more like you did the last time you felt free." After a fantastic career as a high-level lawyer, a marriage that looked great from the outside and all the normal definitions of success, Emma Bell realized she wasn’t happy and that she didn’t even really know herself. In this touching episode Emma shares how she learned to be compassionate with herself and live authentically, which set off a chain of events that included becoming an authenticity and mindfulness coach, finding the love of her life (who complements rather than “completes” her) and having the thrill of helping hundreds of other women make the same journey to self love. Emma Bell lives in a beautiful Scottish village with her husband, Graeme, and her jack russell, Buddy. After seventeen years as a corporate lawyer, the high pressure/long hours culture forced her to realize she was a square peg squeezing into a round hole. She worked as a judge for seven years, during which time she published her book, The True You, and began coaching. She now pursues her passions of writing, teaching authenticity, and motorbiking with her husband around the world. Nuggets of Wisdom from Emma: "David Foster Wallace said, 'You will become way less concerned about what others think of you when you realize how seldom they do.' I just love that quote because it is a reminder to me not to waste a second worrying about what others think of me. You have to live your life with yourself first. I think being true to your values and your principles is what matters most, and it is something I spent 30 years learning." "For me, it was the point which I realized I had absolutely no idea who I was, that was important to me. I realized I had been living according to everyone else's idea of success. So, that was really when I realized that I needed to get to know myself." "I had always been so hard on myself. I was not working hard enough, or I was not trying hard enough or I was a failure or.... I started to change those messages... then self-care becomes a lot easier." "Be clear about what success means to you. My definition of success is having the peace of mind of knowing that I have been the best of which I am capable in every single moment. I have given my full self, I have given my heart, I have given my love in every single moment. That is what success means for me." "Every single day, just take one step toward your idea of success. Just do one thing that moves you toward your idea of success. And those are, for me, the daily rituals." Some of Emma's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "Mindfulness and getting up every morning and meditating." Easy meal: "Salmon with mango and avocado salsa. Chop up a mango. Chop up an avocado. Put in some red onion.  Get the juice of two limes. Cush it all together and serve it along side baked salmon." Possession: "My husband. He is an awesome cook." Emma's Favorite Books: "Wishes Fulfilled by Wayne Dyer" Best advice received: "Emma, you can do everything you want- just not all at the same time. " Emma's Happiness Formula: 1. Being mindful 2. Orly Wahba found herself feeling shy, lonely and ignored in high school, until one day she looked in the mirror and remembered a dream she’d had as a child to make a difference in the world. She literally changed her personality and life, and began doing everything she could to be the type of friend she’d wished she had in high school. Listen to hear Orly’s experiences touching the hearts of 7 years worth of middle school students, creating a viral video that has been watched by 26 million+ people, and what she’s doing today to continue to spread this boomerang of kindness. Orly Wahba is an author, speaker, educator, entrepreneur and community activist who began her career in Brooklyn, NY, where she taught Middle School children to embrace unity, build self-esteem, and be an influence for good. She’s the founder of Life Vest Inside, a non-profit with a mission to empower people of all backgrounds to lead a life of kindness. LVI shot to national attention when her film, Kindness Boomerang, went viral, landing her a spot on TED. In her spare time Orly loves sports, music, movies, figure skating, and above all, spending time with her family. Nuggets of Wisdom from Orly: "Margarette Mead: Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." "Showing that each and every person makes a difference matters in a huge way. Everybody has something they can contribute." "When a person understands their value, they can now understand the value within each and every person." "To empower people to understand their value, that they matter, that they are significant. And even though they might be one in 7 billion people, the number that matters the most is that they are one. " "So often people do not understand their value. And if you think about it, if you do not understand your value, there is no way you could understand the value of another." "Every single second we have a choice, whether to act or to allow things to pass us by." "When we put something out there positive into the world, the impact and the effects are tremendous, that who we are makes a difference. It does not matter what our job title is but just who we are. That when you walk into the room, you impact people, you affect people. You touch people's lives just by being you. And that is so important to remember." "I believe that any child can learn, any child can succeed. It is just about being able to get through to them, empowering them enough to believe in themselves when they fail. Because a kid that can do well is going to do well, with or without that grade teacher." "I know that you are going to try and push me away. I am one person you are never going to push away." "If you think you cannot do it, you cannot. If you think you dare not, you do not. If you would like to win, and think you cannot, it almost like saying you would not.  If you think you lose, you are lost. For out in this world, we find success begins with a fellow's will;  it is all in the state of mind. Life's battles do not always go to the stronger or the faster man. For sooner or later, the man who wins is the one who thinks he can." "I am in the job of falling in love with people more and more each day. You cannot see the beauty in others if you do not stop and see the beauty in yourself. You just cannot. Kindness has to begin with you. If you do not love you, if you do not truly believe that you matter, that you make a difference, that you are not your job, or you are not how much you make, or you are not how many followers you have, if you are only going to look at yourself in those ways, if you do not truly love you, outside of those things, then how are you going to love other people?" "Loving yourself and building that confidence is not like a video game. It is not like you finish all the  levels and then you won. It is a constant battle. There are days where I feel really low on myself. And that is okay, and that is normal. It is not about always being positive, no one can always be positive. It is not real then. You are allowed to feel down. You have to take ownership of those feelings, but you have to be able to be able pick yourself back up afterwards." "It is very easy to compare ourselves with others, especially in today's world of digital media. When people measure themselves, and measure their value based  on numbers (how many followers, how many likes, how many friends..), those things make no difference. It is a facade; it is so fake; what does it mean? It might for the moment make us feel good. But the only person that could really make you feel good about you is you. Happiness comes from you. It comes from inside. If your happiness is going to depend on a person or on a thing, then it is going to be something that will never become attainable because it is going to be something you are constantly chasing. But if it is happiness based on something that is within you, it is based inside of you, then it is a choice that you make every single day. It is not easy. But nothing that is worthwhile is necessarily going to be easy." "Our ability to stay afloat in a world that sometimes seems to be pulling us downward is inside of us. It is through the kindness that we give to others and through the kindness that others give to us that we keep each other afloat in this world because we cannot prevent the obstacles and the mishaps and curve balls from coming our way. They are going to come. But what we can do, what we have the power to do, what is in our ability to do is to throw somebody a life vest. A lifeline of kindness. That even though they are still surrounded by those troubles, they are still surrounded by those waters, that life vest is the difference between life and death. It gives them the hope to know that it is going to be okay. " "...it is not huge gestures, it is the simple things that make the difference. And what we find often is that when we give of ourselves, we actually receive so much more. In a sense, it is like blowing air in our own life vest to keep us strong. When we give, that is the air that we blow into our life vest, making our life vest bigger and stronger, so we can then help others. Because when a person is engaged in active giving or in active kindness, then we feel so good, and there is scientific evidence and proof behind this. We release endorphins. People are less stressed. They live a longer life." "Confidence comes from a place of strength. A person of confidence will make you feel like you matter. They will make you feel included. They will make you feel important. Arrogance comes from weakness. A person of arrogance will make you feel fearful, will make you feel like you are not good enough, will make you feel intimidated. That is the true test." "I had to learn to be okay with being alone and still loving myself." "Use positive energy to propel you forward. Negativity will only lead you down the road of negativity. The more you start looking for good, the more good you are going to see." Some of Orly's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "Prayer is a very big thing for me. That has kept me the most grounded. It is my guiding star. Honestly, through all the hardships." "From Friday night to Saturday night. No phone. No television. No talking about work. No any sort of electric things. It is just being with my family. Being with myself. Connecting to and reflecting on the previous week as to what happened. How I have grown. To have a great time of connectivity and just hanging out with family and playing board games and stuff." Easy meal: "Fish and beans." Possession: "Magic Bullet" Orly's Favorite Books: "The Garden of Emuna: A Practical Guide to Life by Shalom Arush" and "The Secret by Rhonda Byrne" Best advice received: "Believe in myself and to keep pushing forward. And to know that everything happens for a reason." - Dad Orly's Happiness Formula: 1. Recognizing you matter. Self-Value component. Self-Love. 2. Pursuing your passion. 3. Opening yourself up to ways that you can offer a lending hand to others. Giving kindness. Engaging in kindness. A Challenge from Orly: "Catching Kindness cards. The purpose of these kindness cards, when you see somebody doing it--an act of kindness for someone else--you give somebody a card, and it says on it, 'Tag you're it. You have been caught in the act. Now it is your turn to catch someone else in the act.' Exercise your eye muscle, get out there and spot kindness that is happening around you. Not that is happening to you. It is easy to see kindness happening to you, but the more you start becoming aware of kindness that is happening--good things that are happening in the world--a lot more goodness is going to be reflected back to you. Have at least one positive thing a day that you catch people doing for others." Carol Egan felt a bit broken when they took her newborn baby away to be placed in foster care many years ago. But as she watched those elevator doors close behind the woman taking her baby away, a level of fierceness, tenacity and unstoppability came over Carol and she did everything in her power to make enough money to get a place so she could get her baby back. She worked as a waitress and visited her son every day for 4 months until she got him back. The rest of her life built upon that decision to be fierce and Carol has earned several degrees with honors, raised an amazing son as a single parent, and now helps hundreds of women as a health coach. Carol is a Holistic Health Coach from Avon, CT. She specializes in digestive health and detoxification. She works with women who want to look and feel their very best. After years of taking care of their families and all the to do’s that go with that, many women are troubled with excess weight, low energy and foggy thinking. Carol helps them take control of their health so they can focus on what matters most to them. In her spare time Carol loves to cook, read, go to hot yoga, and she’s building a running practice. Nuggets of Wisdom from Carol: "To know that we know what we know and to know that we do not know what we do not know is true knowledge." ~Copernicus "There were moments in my healing journey that I started discovering things that I never knew existed, and they changed my life. " "That is true knowledge, to know that there's things that could make a difference for you and the quality of your life, but you might not know it even exists. And so, we are open. And all of a sudden, these things start to float to us." "I really learned that everything and anything is possible." "Life has never asked me to step up like that, like those moments." "I could have never done what I did without my mother. She was a huge support." "Always come back to self." "The truth of the matter is, you have the fierceness within you. We each have the capability to accomplish everything we want. And the more we give our power away... I guess if we reduce it down to a catch phrase, be one hundred percent responsible for you life. Be the CEO and the director of the course of your life." "I believe that we are all capable of achieving far greater things than we can even see possible. " "There's things that you might not see in this moment because a moment is taking you over." "The pill is going to help you think you are feeling better, but your body is still degrading. It is still degenerating. Whatever has caused you to have autoimmune disease has to be addressed on a holistic level." "My ultimate goal is to bring people to a lived experience in their body where they literally feel healthy or what healthy feels like." Some of Carol's Favorite Things: Personal habit: 5 to Thrive, which helps people get back to themselves.  1. Sleep gives you an advantage hormonally.  2. You are what you eat -Nutrition   3. Become a zone master; meditation and mindfulness 4.  Oxygen - we get it through both exercise and nutrition and the most primary nutrient that we need.   5.  Hydration Easy meal: "I like spicy peppers. If you do not like spicy peppers, get a red pepper. Split it in half, lengthwise. Hollow it out and smash an avocado and load it up. And then in a small bowl, because I have been eating so much of this, I love radicchio. I chop up the radicchio or something like arugula. I chop it up finely like a chopped salad. I chop up olives. I chop up a little onion, a little hotter pepper, a little roasted red pepper, depending on what the base is. And I make this little chopped salad next. Sprouts, always sprouts. And I just put in on top. It is a great portable thing because you do not have to do anything." Possession: "My juicer" Carol's Favorite Books: The Alchemist - Paolo Coelho and Big Magic - Elizabeth Gilbert Best advice received: "Do not be afraid to take a risk." Carol's Happiness Formula: "Create calm in the body, plus clear, plus energized equals happiness." "Calm ourselves with our breathe to create clarity, to create mental clarity. So our choices and our decisions are smart and aligned with what we really want." "Clearly, we need energy. If we are tired and exhausted and not healthy in our body then we are not going to achieve happiness that lasts, happiness that fulfills us." A Challenge from Carol: "For today, add in one healthy thing a day.  If you could have one green juice, one green smoothie, or one meal size green salad,  that would be a great step to start working on your energy from a cellular level." Sophie Sabbage shares her story of receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, working through the grief and then making the choice to allow cancer to transform her life. Learn how Sophie copes with the fear of cancer, how she feels healthier than ever, and what she's doing to help others with a cancer diagnosis. Sophie is an inspirational writer, speaker, and facilitator who has worked in the field of human development, emotional intelligence, mindset change, and corporate culture change for more than twenty years. The Cancer Whisperer was a UK bestseller and was release in the U.S. in 2017. Nuggets of Wisdom from Sophie: "The last of the human freedoms is to choose your own attitude in any given situation." ~Victor Frankl "I have cancer. Cancer does not have me." "I realized in that moment that I valued my lucidity and clarity of mind more than my life. And it was threatening my cognitive abilities, my ability to speak, my ability to see, my ability to understand, so it was terrifying for me, the idea that I going to lose my mind having worked for 30 years on gaining my right mind if that make sense." "I used to think people prayed on their knees as a sign of reverence and an act of humility but now I know that sometimes we are just bought to our knees by the events of our lives. And I was brought to my knees that day. I literally just dropped to my knees by the log fire at home. And I prayed. I do not often pray. I wept and I prayed. " "I think the grief and the surrender really empowered me paradoxically. I never thought of surrendering that way." "I want to just say it is okay to be vulnerable and it is okay to be terrified. And also, to teach people what to do with their terror. " "If you do not take hold of your fear and push through it, it will make your decisions for you as a cancer patient." "It puts you on war with your own body when you need to make peace with your body. I had been at war with my body my whole life. That is partly why I got cancer." "I knew I needed to make peace with my body and listen to it instead of fighting it. And I want to get rid of my disease. But I think I've got a better shot at doing that if I am listening to it than if I am in a state of anger and defiance and rebellion which just causes stress." "What if cancer is a teacher, not an enemy?" "I am more grateful to my cancer than I am scared of it. I am grateful for it. It transformed my life. I have let it transform my life. We need to be proactive to do that, but it has gifted me in many ways." "The most important thing is to get some support because it is a very arduous thing to do on your own. But mostly, it is about noticing what is running through your head and what you are believing. I call it mind talk. The mind would just make things up and terrify you with what is going to happen and you need to get that stuff out of your head and start verifying it and telling the truth about it." "Cancer is loaded with meanings. It is like a gun that gets shot at you, and you think the worst. Hair loss, control loss, pain, agony, misery. It all just runs through your head, instantly and in lightning speed. And you need to get that stuff out of your head, and you need to look at it in the cold light of day. And you need to get very accurate with what you are dealing with and get as much information from your doctor as you can. A lot of patients do not want to know everything because they are so scared. But the more you know, the more power you have. So, it is about getting hold of reality - the reality of what you are dealing with - even if it is more tumors in your brain than they can count." Some of Sophie's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "Breathing helps. Breathing brings us be present when we breathe consciously. And also, verifying my mind talk. I do it every day." Easy meal: "Avocado and feta salad." Possession: "My husband. And my kettle." Sophie's Favorite Books: "Thirst: Poems by Mary Oliver"  A Box Full of Darkness: "Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too was a gift." Best advice received: "The warrior's way: Seven times down. Eight times up. Then repeat." ~ Dr. Brad Brown "Do not become a patient, Mrs. Sabbage. Live your life." Sophie's Happiness Formula: "I am happiest when I am loving, when I am forgiving, when I am self-accepting and when I am thankful." A Challenge from Sophie: "I want to challenge listeners to write down three regrets that they have been harboring and then make a choice about each of those regrets. So, you can either let them go, and I mean really deeply let them go. Write on a piece of paper. Throw it in a fire, burn it, whatever it takes. Or choose an action to change the regret. " Resources The Cancer Whisperer Sophie Sabbage, The Cancer Whisperer SophieSabbage.com Follow Sophie on Facebook Subscribe to Vibrant Happy Women:

Anna Seewald was forced to grow up quickly when a devastating earthquake killed her mother and destroyed her home town in Armenia when she was only 13 years old. Today Anna strives to live a mindful, slow-paced life that allows her to concentrate on enjoying every moment and being the best mom she can be. Listen to get some great tips on saying “no” to the unnecessaries, taking time to do nothing at all, and how critical it is that we as moms know ourselves deeply and choose the life that makes us happiest. Anna Seewald is the founder of Authentic Parenting®. She is a speaker, author and a parent educator. She is a mom to a vibrant 8 year old who doesn’t approve of her fashion choices. With a strong passion for helping children, Anna has dedicated her life to working with abused, neglected, orphaned and institutionalized children and juvenile delinquents. After nearly 20 years she realized that it is through helping parents she can help children. Today she is supporting parents around the world by moving from traditional ways of parenting into more peaceful, conscious ways by helping them make sense of their past life experiences, heal from trauma, build effective communication, practice non-punitive discipline and learn to set limits with love and kindness. Nuggets of Wisdom from Anna: "At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by the spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us." -Albert Schweitzer "'The past is never dead. It’s not even past. The past defines who we are.' (William Faulkner). We cannot forget where we come from, who we are. We bring in all our unresolved issues, our traumas, all that attachment history comes into play. If we forget and move forward, we never look back. The past will crawl out, and it will haunt you in your present day. So we need to make sense of our life stories, resolve our unresolved issues, and heal from our traumas in order to live vibrant, happy and fulfilled lives.” Some of Anna's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "Just having alone time, solitude, in the morning. Every morning, I wake up, I make myself a cup of coffee, I sit in my favorite chair in my living room. And then I just sit there and do nothing for a specific amount of time. It could be 15 minutes, 10, 20. Even if I do not have that time in the morning, I still get up early, just to have at least a few moments with myself because looking inwards for me has been the most powerful and empowering, important life lesson. Because no one can make me happy. I cannot expect my husband to make med happy. I am happy. I have to be happy on my own before I have fulfilling relationships with others." Easy meal: "Omelette.  Any kind of omelette. I throw in some vegetables: spinach, feta cheese, mushrooms, or one with scallions and parsley." Possession: Cuisinart Food Processor Anna's Favorite Books: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Best advice received: "Do not sweat the small stuff, and it is all small stuff." -Anna's husband Anna's Happiness Formula: "Meaningful relationships, connections, attachments, friendships, family (one category). Doing the things that make me fulfilled. Expressing myself through art or doing something that I love. And perhaps, taking care of myself.  We need to take care of our body first and foremost. To be healthy, to have good relationships and to do the things that you love most. " A Challenge from Anna: "I want parents to take a piece of paper and write down five things, big or small, or it could be really big. Something in your eyes, in your own opinion that makes you a great parent. Be honest with yourself. Give yourself credit. "My pursuit for this endless perfection that really was never granted,  it was breaking me apart, and it was limiting from becoming who God made me to be." "'Emily, you are not made to be perfect, and you do not have to be.' There is freedom in that. But you can wake up and choose to become who God made you to be no matter what you are experiencing." "Sometimes our weaknesses can become our very strengths." "Life is hard. We go through lots of low points and lots of valleys. But we do not ever have to live there." "It reminds me that other people are on this journey too. And when we share who we are and what we are doing, we become stronger together." "Strip off all the labels and the lies that you have told yourself or that you have listened to from other people. We have to dig through the junk that is in our hearts and in our minds first. And many times that is just stuff we tell ourselves. Second, you have to choose to love you. If you do not love yourself, there is really no way that you can really genuinely love those around you well or even love what you are doing. We have to love who we are in order to become whoever you want to be. Last, you just have to choose to be her." "The decision to be free really lies with me." "I think we are all strong to an extent, but I do believe in that power, and for me that is God. Cassie created the Wheel of Wellness (WOW) nutrition program and has helped thousands of women to be their healthiest self. Cassie also has over 25 years of experience in the health and fitness industry, as a certified holistic health practitioner and teaching Pilates, indoor cycling, dance. She has taught fitness to over 10,000 people! She lives at the beach in Southern California with her husband Jack and 2 dogs and 22 old daughter who rarely comes home from the east coast. Nuggets of Wisdom from Cassie: "Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness." - Joseph Pilates "If I can get up in the morning, even it has to be really early, and get my body moving, I am always happier during the day." "If I take care of myself, my health is good, my body is moving and relatively pain free at the age of 48, I can handle everything else pretty much with a smile on my face. " "You can do anything for 3 weeks! You're a woman!" "I quit the sugar, and I quit the gluten for 3 weeks. And within 7 days my moods leveled out. Within 2 weeks, my skin cleared up. And within 3 weeks, all of the things, like stomachaches that I thought were just because maybe I was stressed out or whatever, all went away. So, it was the combination of the sugar and the gluten.... So, after those 3 weeks, there was no way I was going to go back. I mean, I just felt and looked so much better that there was no way I was going to go back." "The fact that I was not moody anymore, and I did not have to worry that I was going to spout off or, you know, get upset, my patience, just all of that, got so much better. That was a big enough reason for me to stay the course." "I wanted other women my age to feel and look and act as wonderful as I found that I could eating a very whole foods, low sugar, low-processed food-type diet. I do not like to say diet, it is just a lifestyle." "The first step is acknowledging that they just do not feel good. And stepping either on a scale or taking a look in their closet at all the clothes that used to fit and do not fit anymore. And just acknowledging, 'Hey, this is not working for me anymore, and I need to do something about it, and I need to do something that might take a little bit longer, but it is going to last a lifetime.'" Some of Cassie's Favorite Things: Personal habit: Exercise. "When I wake up first thing in the morning, I meditate. And get up and then I throw on some lycra, and I go and I work out." Easy meal: "Spaghetti Squash. I cut it in half. And then I bake it and roast it in the oven. And then I put them in the refrigerator. And then, everyday for lunch, take the half of the spaghetti squash and fill it with whatever leftover vegetables I have. I just fill the center of the spaghetti squash with whatever I want. And it is so yummy!" Possession: "A set of odd measuring spoons." Cassie's Favorite Books: "The Dip by Seth Godin" Best advice received: "If something is not working, it is okay to quit. There are some diets that you should quit." Cassie's Happiness Formula: "When I am done working out, and I eat a really good breakfast, and then I get to do one of three things. I either get to put on my bathing suit and go down to the beach, or I get to walk around Paris, France, or I get a message from my daughter that everything is going right in her world that day." A Challenge from Cassie: "The challenge is not to get them to eat less sugar today. The challenge is for them to add up how much sugar they eat over the course of 5 days. So, everyday, write down all the sugar that you eat. Even sugar from an apple. And see how much you are really consuming. Nuggets of Wisdom from Katie: "I am good enough because I am the daughter of a King." "I learned to learn on my brothers and sisters and that we are each other, we are there for each other and that God will not abandon us. We felt abandoned that God took mom but that is not all that it was - God actually replaced her love through a deeper love for us to be united to Him. And realize that mom was a blessing to us on earth but there is so much that she can do from heaven for all of us." "I very much struggle with loneliness because my fuel tank requires people. A new stimulation and interaction. And when you live where I do, you have to learn to seek that. So, once I became self aware enough to recognize that my heart needs to be filled with people and filled with interaction and I need new stimulation, I found ways to fuel that without feeling like I am a bad person because I required that. I struggled for that for a long time where now, it is like, 'No way, that is what juices me!'" "I do things that just randomly stay connected with people often... And that is fueling me but I get to fuel their hearts too." "That is how the ball rolls, that is really how I have learned to grow and improve by having enough self awareness inside." "Whether you are in a small town like me or a big city, make sure your middle circle ties into what is the most important to you in your life. Whether that is the relationship with your family or maybe it is that relationship with you and your God and how much you love Him and if that can be in the circle in the middle, and all the other circles are coming together, that is what makes a happy, vibrant, beautiful woman. " Some of Katie's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "I need to exercise every morning. It is super important for my mental game to get up and get moving. My other favorite personal habit is my nightly prayer. I need rest, I need my ritual of quiet time." Easy meal: "I love noodles and marinara sauce." Possession: Pampered Chef chopper. So that when they come home,  I can just completely embrace them instead of being halfway into supper or into something I am doing... into the computer or switching laundry. I try to be there. I try to be right at the front entrance, greeting them with a hug and really sitting down to visit with them, to hear what has happened with their day." Katie's Happiness Formula: "I am happiest when I allow others into my heart, and I surround myself with good people, and I listen to God." A Challenge from Katie: "I would love if all of you took a little bit of time to make eye contact with a stranger, and make that stranger's day with your smile or with just one little compliment that you can give them. Because it will really, really make them feel loved. Learn how Jane survived that low point by getting organized. Jane is originally from Canada and now resides in Zurich, Switzerland and she's constantly finding new ways to get and stay organized. Jane is the author of Organizing for Your Lifestyle, which provides  inspiration to make organization fit YOUR needs. Nuggets of Wisdom from Jane: "And for every  minutes spent organizing, an hour is earned." "For me, I naturally start it with reorganizing my closet and whenever I am in kind of a low point, that is what I do, I organize my own and then sometimes I have lots of friends that love it when I come to do theirs. So that gives me kind of a feeling that I have accomplished something. " "When I am organized, I am my happiest." "If you have a perfect organizing system, sustaining that is the most important part, otherwise there is no point even getting organized. So that is where I say, 'Make it your lifestyle but do not think about it all the time. Make it a routine... Make it fit for your lifestyle'" "My day starts the night before. Planning my outfit for the next day and my meals. So I make sure that when I wake up in the morning, whether I am working out first thing in the morning or whether I am going to the office or on the weekend, I have my outfit planned, so there is no last minute stress of looking for what to wear or what not. So, I think that really helps you start off on a right foot. And if you start off on that right foot, the rest of the day, I find usually smooth flows pretty smoothly." In this episode, I chat with Jill Savage and she shares a lifetime of experiences and struggles - including raising 5 children, facing the challenges of her husband's lifelong depression and an act of infidelity, and her triumph over breast cancer - each which helped her learn to feel with others rather than trying to fix others. Author of 11 books, Jill shares many nuggets of wisdom about building stronger relationships and not comparing our "insides" to other people's "outsides." Jill Savage is known as The Go-To Mom. She is the founder and CEO of Hearts at Home, an organization dedicated to being a moms best place for answers. She is also a popular public speaker and has written eleven books including, Real Moms ... Real Jesus, the best-selling No More Perfect Moms, No More Perfect Kids, and her most recent book authored with her daughter Anne, Better Together. Jill and her husband, Mark, live in Illinois and have five children and three grandchildren. Nuggets of Wisdom from Jill: "We have to stop comparing our insides to other people's outsides." - from Jill's friend "It is recognizing another person's pain. It is not necessarily agreeing with it. It is not giving them pat answers to pull them out of it. It is sitting in the pain with them. So being able to say, 'Wow! That must just feel really dark to you, I am so sorry that it gets hard like this.' That is a validating statement." "He starts feeling like I am distant from him when I try to fix him. But when I try to feel with him, he says that, 'That makes me feel closer..' to him, and that is huge. Me learning to feel over fixing." "Feel, don't fix." "They say people don't care what you know until they know that you care. " "Unfortunately, we just live in a very broken world. I think that the struggle, the pain, the hardship is just a natural byproduct of the human experience." "I am an introvert, and I am refueled by being alone. And so another part of self-care is figuring out ways that I can be alone. " "We cannot be a perfect parent, but we have to stop trying to be perfect and embrace being perfected. That is what God does with the broken places in our life." Some of Jill's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "Self-care is not selfish. Each morning I get up and I take an exercise class. I always also take time to have a little quiet time with the Lord. I perceive all of that as self-care. " Easy meal: Mexican. Callie Blount grew up in a Southern home and was taught that hospitality is a fantastic way to show love. Carrying those traditions forward, Callie talks in this interview about how to be hospitable while still maintaining time for self care, yet not being afraid to be vulnerable and allow people into her home. Callie teaches, "People aren't going to remember what your house looked like. They're going to remember how you made them feel." Callie loves beauty, people and creating, which she uses in her career as a food stylist. She blogs at Luv-Cooks.com. She lives in Nashville with her husband Jake and their cute dog Bigsby.  Nuggets of Wisdom from Callie: "Life is either a grand adventure or nothing else." ~Helen Keller "I was raised in a very southern household with a very southern mama who I absolutely adore. I grew up in this culture of - whether it was a wedding or a funeral or a baby shower - her motto was 'Well, ya gotta eat!' so you might as well be eating at her house. This culture of beautiful tables and beautiful spreads and this enjoyment of food and of people.... There's something about this love of food, love of people, and love of beauty that resonates in my spirit and brings me such fulfillment." "My mom modeled for me this culture of hospitality. For her it was her way to love us well." "The best way to love somebody is to cook for them." "Hospitality is more about the people who are sitting in your living room than it is about you looking fancy or like the coolest hostess in the world. It's about loving them well and making them feel special." "It's about having a good time and celebrating life with the people around you. It's really more important the way people FEEL when they're in your home than the way your home appears to them." "Today is the day that I have. Today is my grand adventure. I'm not promised tomorrow. Today is my chance to love people, to be kind to them, to have a good time with whatever situation I'm in and to let my intention be TODAY." "At the end of the day, land on the side of relationship." "People who can celebrate food are the best people!" Some of Callie's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "I pray all the time. I try to still myself and maintain a place of peace in my spirit." Andrea Joy Wenburg spent many years early in her marriage believing her worth was a direct reflection of how much her husband respected or admired her. After the difficult birth of her second child, Andrea hit a deep low point in her life and struggled for months believing her husband didn’t respect her anymore. Listen as Andrea shares her story of coming to the realization that she was already loved by God and that she no longer had to be a victim of what other people thought of her. This story of empowerment and marital healing will help you develop greater self love, and learn how to love others way more than you fear them. Andrea is an author, speaker and personal brand strategist who shares a message encouraging others toward a love-filled, authentic self expression in relationships and thought leadership. Her book UNFROZEN: Stop Holding Back and Release the Real You tells the story of her struggle to find effective expression of her own deep thoughts and intense feelings. Making their home in Nebraska, Andrea is totally in love with her husband and two creative kids. Nuggets of Wisdom from Andrea: "Healing is not the absence of pain. It is when you choose to love despite the pain. - Dr. Larry Crabb" "Even my own self-love seems to go up and down. For me that fixed point is God's love. So that is how I thought and that is how I have been able to rest in that ever since then - so my self esteem is not going up and down and up and down based on how other people perceive me, and I am not chasing after their respect. I am not chasing after those two things that I wanted: that seat at the table. I am not chasing after acceptance, and I am not chasing after that chance to have an impact because I know I have them both."   "Taking risks is like loving other people." "I believe that every single person has a reputation of some kind, and we can be intentional with how we go about our lives. And if we are intentional and we have a purpose, we feel like we have a purpose, then we are going to move with more power as we move through and make decisions about what we are going to do with our lives and that we each have a message that might be born out of struggle. And when we get really in touch with where we we have been, how far we have come, and where we are moving then we can take that and turn it into a really powerful force." "You do not have to worry about what this other person's thinking about you." “I’m not a victim of what other people think of me.” I can love them even if they hurt me.” “I decided I was going to love them more than I fear them.” Some of Andrea's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "I'm not good at habits." Easy meal: "My favorite easy meal is the one that I pull right out of the freezer and throw in the oven and that is chicken strips and sweet potato fries. We bake them, we do not fry them." Possession: "Wooden cutting board from my  father-in-law." Andrea's Favorite Book: Connecting: Healing Ourselves and Our Relationships by Larry Crabb Best advice received: "To offer what I am good at." Andrea's Happiness Formula: "I am happiest when I am at rest in God's love internally. So that I can work externally towards that loving self-expression. " A Challenge from Andrea: "Name your fears. [I take a good look at my fears and ask, 'What is threatened in me? What’s more true than this fear?'] Then remember God loves you. You can be free." One evening Lauren spent $600 on clothes. When she got home, she left the purchases in the car so her husband wouldn’t find out. The next day she decided she had to tell him what she had done, and how it was only the tip of the iceberg of the $40,000 of debt she had racked up. “When I told him, he just stood there staring at me for a while, then he said, ‘I forgive you. Let’s get through this together.’” Fast forward to today: Lauren and her husband are not only out of debt, but Lauren is teaching others how to do it, too. Lauren is the author of ‘The Recovering Spender’ and blogs at LaurenGreutman.com. Listen to find out the 3 rules that help her stay out of debt today. Nuggets of Wisdom from Lauren: "When the pain of staying broke becomes greater than the pain of changing your spending habits, that is when you will make a change. " "A lot of the debt was because I got us into the debt and never told him about it because I did not want to burden him. It was not that I was like trying to be sneaky. I just did not want to burden him. I would just say, 'Okay, it's what everybody does. I am just having a terrible time dealing with it so it is my fault, so I just need to handle it and get us out of it....'" "I started feeling really guilty about it. I started thinking like, 'Okay, I hid this from him because I didn't want to fight with him... He knew we were in debt, but he did not know how much. But he knew we were in debt and here I am, going and spending $600 on clothing and now I am hiding it from him. This is not just good for our marriage and our future. The next day I decided to come clean to him and tell him all the debt that we had. And make a real difference. I felt like for the first time I realized that I could not do it myself, like I needed his help to handle this and to have somebody to talk to about it. It is really like - not only it is lonely and stressful but it is just damaging to your marriage if you have this big elephant in the room that you can never talk about it." "He said, 'I forgive you, let us get through this together.' And so those are the words that changed everything. That was 9 years ago and from then on we got out of debt in 2 years. We just had a passion for teaching other people all the mistakes that we went through." "I have a spending problem. I think I always have the personality to be addicted to spending. And because of that I have to know what boundaries I have to set up around myself, so I do not spend money. Like 3 rules that I have. #1.) Do not go to Target alone. My second one, if I do any online shopping, I use a prepaid debit card, so I have to fund it beforehand. And #3, I do not use credit cards. So, those are my three big boundaries I had to put around myself, to keep myself safe. So, yes, I would definitely say, it is an addiction of some sort." "The biggest thing that they need to learn is how to set a realistic budget. For years, I was so terrified of the B word. I cringed on the inside. But once I saw that a budget can actually bring freedom to me, it really kind of opened up my eyes to all that's possible. For so many years, I spent money without knowing what was going on and, yes, that was fun and great, but then, you sit down at the end of the day, and you are like, 'Oh my gosh, I spent this much money. I did not know that I spent this much money! I don't know where it went. And now, you don't have money for your bills.' So, I found out that budgeting actually gives me freedom to spend what I want to without giving me that guilt and feeling of depletion at the end of the day. I think people need to set that realistic budget, and it can really really help them." Some of Lauren's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "That I can turn work off.  I think that is a big thing. As an entrepreneur who works online, the temptation to work all day and all night and every weekend is there, you know, in your face all the time. We finally got an office outside of our house and that has been really imperative to my success with everything that I do online. I got so sick of being half on, half off all day long, that setting it up this way has really kept us very productive during our work hours and also being able to be a husband and wife at night and hang out with the kids, go out to dinner, and do fun stuff together without feeling guilty that I have so much work to do." Easy meal: Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Possession: Blendtec Lauren's Favorite Book: For the Love by Jen Hatmaker Best advice received: "Be kind to others because they will be kind to you." Lauren's Happiness Formula: "I am happiest when I stick to my budget, I spend time with family, and I sleep." A Challenge from Lauren: "I want everybody to think about their values and if their spending is a reflection of that value system. Because whether you are in debt or not, you can always do something better with your finances. It always comes down to your value system."
