Singapore pop singing sensation Wils is releasing his final single, Dancing Lights, today. “My journey in music is complete,” the singer-songwriter confirms. “It has been a heartening ten-year ride that has taught me to live fearlessly as my authentic true self and I am ready to now follow the ‘Dancing Lights' to wherever they lead me.” The song is an uplifting dance track that explores moodier, more subdued hues than past releases from Wils. Built around vocal effects and vintage synths, it's an understated sound that sets the atmosphere of a young man coming to terms with life's inevitable highs and lows. Along with the single, the video directed by Stro and filmed at various locations in Los Angeles including Matador Beach and City Walk, captures the essence of grief as a person emerges from the dark hole of depression into the final stage of acceptance. “I'm incredibly proud of the video,” Wils says. “It reflects on the beautiful times I shared with my friend and reminds me that even through the pain, I can embrace the love we once shared.” Wils first gained fame with his 2014 album, WTF. It was named Best Pop Album of the Year at the Hollywood F.A.M.E Awards. At the Los Angeles Music Awards, it was nominated for Best Album. Wils was also nominated Pop Artist of the Year (male) and International Artist of the Year and his single, “Less is More”, won Music Video of the Year for its superb integration of technology, music, fashion and art. Flashback Episode of The Father Time Podcast with Jamie KalerJohn Preston is a Concore Entertainment recording artist and full time firefighter. John was a Marine Corps field wireman from 2000 to 2004 achieving the rank of Sergeant in his 4 years of service. John was with Second Battalion Seventh Marines (2/7) and served as a mission squad leader for 2/7 H&S running over 100 combat missions while in theatre.John began his music career while in Iraq writing his song "Good Good America" which became an overnight success and gave John his first shot at the music industry signing a record deal upon his return from Iraq. The song and video inspired by Iraqi school children was a national media topic and was viewed hundreds of thousands of times in 2004.John returned to the music industry in 2014 signing with Pacific Records and quickly releasing his first single "this IS war" in October of 2014. The song also became a national media topic when the Marine veteran made a call to action to veterans across the nation to stand against ISIS which had just made a surge through Syria and Iraq. The music video had thousands of views and secured John a second release with Pacific Records.Just one month later, John released his Los Angeles Music Awards nominated EP "Your War is Over" and again took to the media. This time the topic was very different. John and two Marine bandmates had released a veterans tribute album that he referred to as being for us by us. John highlighted veterans' struggles with Post Traumatic Stress and suicide and took the fight public with several TV and radio appearances across the United States. John and Pacific Records partnered with Boot Campaign and donated 30% of album sales to help combat PTSD. John and his band took to the road and raised thousands of dollars up and down the coast of California for several different veteran charities all while never accepting any payment and giving all proceeds from the events back to the cause.Still receiving accolades and media for his "Your War is Over" EP, John took to the studio again and in September of 2015 released in the Top 100 New Alternative Albums chart with his second EP "Day to Night." With this EP, John told the story of a Marine he was connected to that was killed on his last day of combat. Again, John took to the media continuing with his fight against PTSD, veteran suicide, and also reminding the people of America that the country is still at war. The album was released on the one year anniversary of the death of the Marine for whom he had written the song. John's video for Day to Night has had hundreds of thousands of views. Rather than celebrate his success, John continued to play charity events and do media all over the country now becoming a national advocate against veteran suicide.John's life took a turn of tragic irony when in January of 2016 John's own brother fell victim to post traumatic stress and took his own life. The passing of his brother was enough to make him consider ending his career, but has instead fueled his hard work and passion and his new single "superman falls" on a compilation album titled Battlecry: Songs of America's Heroes. Preston Executive produced the album and was the driving force which saw the album reach #21 on the iTunes rock charts and continues to spread not only through the veteran community but the mainstream.John signed with Concore Entertainment/ Universal Music Group and his single "before I am gone" started pre-release worldwide on September 5th and will release October 17th with John donating 100% of his sales profit to Stop Soldier Suicide."We are taking our message to the public and today we tell the mainstream that we are here and we are loud. The perception of the broken veteran is a myth that we refuse to buy into. My music is about our lives and the real battles we have and continue to fight: on and off the battlefield. We are here
Meet Al Bowman. He started out working in the LA Music Scene owning, and driving limos for such superstars as Whitney Houston, who introduced him into the world of celebrity seat filling. That provided an introduction to such luminaries as Patti LaBelle, Tommy Lee from Motley Crue, The Beach Boys Brian Wilson, and even silver screen star Martha Ray. Through a chain of events, including the 1992 LA Riots, and the emerging grunge rock scene in Hollywood, his focus changed from driving stars, to creating awards shows for stars to walk the red carpet. Enter Bill Gazzarri (“The Godfather of Rock” and the owner of the legendary Sunset Strip rock club "Gazzarri's"), and The honorary mayor of Hollywood Johnny Grant, who became mentors and the inspiration for Al Bowman to begin producing music awards shows in Los Angeles for the independent artist, with the same flair, and fanfare as the big shows provided. Bowman's awards shows included: The Los Angeles Music Awards, Hollywood Fame Awards, Phoenix Music Awards, Producer Choice Honors, and the Las Vegas Fame Awards. Al has now created The Nashville Music Awards, along with creating a non-profit organization called “The Nashville Music Foundation”, providing something to the independent creative community. Al's goal is to inspire the future of music by honoring the past. Bowman explains how a simple act as walking the red carpet at special events, can assist in elevating your exposure on a national, and Global level. We often define life by the things we have. Boxcar Junkies lead vocalist and principle songwriter Brandon Reid Allen defines his by the things he’s survived. He was born in Indiana but his nomadic ways often led him astray. With extreme hearing loss as a child and subject to a tougher start than most, Allen wasn’t exactly someone you’d expect to catapult to a career as a singer-songwriter. But one thing his parents gave him before leaving this world was his first start in music through their family band. Allen started playing drums and bass until receiving his first acoustic guitar at age 12. That’s when the writing started. That’s when he first found his voice. Allen launched a successful career as a singer-songwriter. He won Best Rock Vocalist at the Los Angeles Music Awards as well as Songwriter of the Year. Not long after, he added Breakout Artist of the Year at the American Christian Music Awards, as well as Song of the Year at the Paramount Music Awards. He signed a label deal with distribution and publishing through EMI, creating quite a buzz as an independent musician. Allen soon would catch the ear of famed rock drummer Troy Luccketta of the multi-platinum selling band Tesla. “Troy has been instrumental in my career. He opened a lot of doors. He believed in me and gave me opportunities recording great music and sharing the stage with legends. The Eagles, Alice Cooper, Aaron Lewis. The list goes on.” Things looked promising on multiple fronts, but personal tragedy would come calling. “I made some stupid choices that led to my exodus. Drifting from town to town. Living on the streets, in the mountains, even the desert. Lost myself for sure. It wasn’t the first time. Hell, I ran away with the carnival when I was just a kid. I’ve surely lived a hundred lifetimes.” He’d lose a lot of things along the way before truly finding himself. One thing after another unraveled until he found himself living on the streets. “It’s not that I got addicted to drugs and booze and then lost everything. It was actually the exact opposite. I’m no stranger to life and its struggles, but the harder I would fight off the attack, the stronger it became. It was too much this time. I had lost. I finally said ‘I’m dead already, just waiting for my body to catch up.’” He scraped by busking and sleeping on rooftops in cities like Vegas, Phoenix, and San Diego. Eventually he found himself. Cleaned up and clawed out. Dedicating his life and his art to being someone who tells the stories of the forgotten people he’d met along the way. He traveled, playing gigs and being free. New York to Florida to Texas (where he cut the EP for his new Americana/Alt-Country project Boxcar Junkies), and finally back to Nashville. Drawing from influences like Mellencamp, Springsteen, Tom Petty, Rob Thomas, and Wilco, Allen’s Boxcar Junkies put their own spin on a style of music deeply embedded in the American experience. A punchy rhythm section forms the backdrop for deep textured guitars, rootsy Hammond organ, all set against organic overlays of steel guitar and harmonica. The record was produced and performed on by producer Derek Hames and engineer John Shelton of Houston’s Edgewater Music Group. Isaias Gil (Black Flag, Macy Gray, David Lee Roth, Jaci Velasquez) played drums alongside bassist Mark Riddell (Mike Stinson, Charlie and The Regrets, Leon III, Grand Old Grizzly). International guitar legend Gary Hoey guested on the record, while Texas steel extraordinaire Will Van Horn (Lyle Lovett, Robert Ellis) and Houston harmonica great Sonny Boy Terry added their unique flavors as well. Hames provided Hammond, mandolin, guitars, percussion, and background vocals while Shelton played most of the leads. Sony Music Entertainment’s group – The Orchard has picked up the band for distribution of the EP, titled “EST. 1973.” Ultimately, though, the record is focused in on the incisive, plaintive songwriting and smoky baritone vocals Allen himself provides the project. The tapestries of the backing tracks are pleasing, but the music itself is what drives the ship. “I’m trying to make right with my past and help some people along the way that have been pinned down by their circumstances. My hope is that I become invisible and that people focus on the message.” Shining a light into dark places. Music is the medium. Hope is the message.

John Preston is a Concore Entertainment recording artist and full time firefighter. John was a Marine Corps field wireman from 2000 to 2004 achieving the rank of Sergeant in his 4 years of service. John was with Second Battalion Seventh Marines (2/7) and served as a mission squad leader for 2/7 H&S running over 100 combat missions while in theatre. John began his music career while in Iraq writing his song "Good Good America" which became an overnight success and gave John his first shot at the music industry signing a record deal upon his return from Iraq. The song and video inspired by Iraqi school children was a national media topic and was viewed hundreds of thousands of times in 2004. John returned to the music industry in 2014 signing with Pacific Records and quickly releasing his first single "this IS war" in October of 2014. The song also became a national media topic when the Marine veteran made a call to action to veterans across the nation to stand against ISIS which had just made a surge through Syria and Iraq. The music video had thousands of views and secured John a second release with Pacific Records. Just one month later, John released his Los Angeles Music Awards nominated EP "Your War is Over" and again took to the media. John and his band took to the road and raised thousands of dollars up and down the coast of California for several different veteran charities all while never accepting any payment and giving all proceeds from the events back to the cause. Still receiving accolades and media for his "Your War is Over" EP, John took to the studio again and in September of 2015 released in the Top 100 New Alternative Albums chart with his second EP "Day to Night." With this EP, John told the story of a Marine he was connected to that was killed on his last day of combat. Again, John took to the media continuing with his fight against PTSD, veteran suicide, and also reminding the people of America that the country is still at war. The album was released on the one year anniversary of the death of the Marine for whom he had written the song. John's video for Day to Night has had hundreds of thousands of views. Rather than celebrate his success, John continued to play charity events and do media all over the country now becoming a national advocate against veteran suicide. John's life took a turn of tragic irony when in January of 2016 John's own brother fell victim to post traumatic stress and took his own life. The passing of his brother was enough to make him consider ending his career, but has instead fueled his hard work and passion and his new single "superman falls" on a compilation album titled Battlecry: Songs of America's Heroes. Preston Executive produced the album and was the driving force which saw the album reach #21 on the iTunes rock charts and continues to spread not only through the veteran community but the mainstream. John signed with Concore Entertainment/ Universal Music Group and his single "before I am gone" started pre-release worldwide on September 5th and will release October 17th with John donating 100% of his sales profit to Stop Soldier Suicide. "We are taking our message to the public and today we tell the mainstream that we are here and we are loud. The perception of the broken veteran is a myth that we refuse to buy into. My music is about our lives and the real battles we have and continue to fight: on and off the battlefield. We are here to show our community and the general public our talent, work ethic and our drive to push forward through all adversity."

On my Get the FUNK Out show tomorrow at 9am on KUCI 88.9fm, special guest Jimmy Steinfeldt! During his 30 years in the photography business, Jimmy Steinfeldt has worked with everyone from Miles Davis to the Ramones. Born in Minneapolis, Jimmy first focused and clicked at age 14. Cars (not the band), were among his first photographic subjects. Jimmy moved to California to study at San Diego State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Management. After college he shot his way through many long road-trips and rock concerts armed with his first real camera. A one-hundred dollar Minolta! Jimmy is a self-taught photographer who has only to squint through the lens for inspiration. Jimmy cites photographer Richard Avedon and cinematographer Karl Freund among his strongest influences. Jimmy's unique photographic style conveys the personality of his artist-musician subjects while conveying the story of their music. As a live action photographer, Jimmy was first published in 1985 in SPIN magazine. In that same year Rolling Stone published one of his photographs of Madonna, which he credits as a major boost to his career. In 1986 his dreams as a music fan and photographer came true when Rolling Stone published his photo of Bob Dylan. CD covers followed from this exposure: Miles Davis, Willie Nelson, John Denver, Dee Dee Ramone and many others. Jimmy's Elusive Studios, in the canyons of Hollywood, is his base of operations and has become a haven for music, film and television artists. In 1998 and again in 2007, industry players recognized his work and named him Photographer of the Year at the Los Angeles Music Awards. Jimmy's advice to aspiring photographers? "Try something new on every shoot - experiment with lighting, film, filters and gels. As for your camera, never leave home without it!"

The pair, who have worked together behind the scenes for fifteen years have brought their joint efforts into the public eye with this new DJ duo, which debuted at this years Burning Man festival.Christopher laughs "I've been noticing there's a lot of DJs working in pairs lately. I've often thought it would be nice to have a wingman up there, although in this case, it's actually a wingwoman. I don't know of any other mixed sex DJ duos, let alone any husband and wife teams, so I think we're definitely breaking some new ground here".Christopher continues "Mr + Mrs Smith' is an opportunity for me to play music that I couldn't normally incorporate into my trance sets".So what is the sound? "I would describe it as electro house meets techno" says Sara. "But we'll play any genre, we don't care what it is as long as it's tough and sexy, with a groove".One thing is for certain, dance music's newest Dj duo has everyone talking..."Mr Smith" (AKA Christopher Lawrence) needs no introduction. One of the World's leading dance music talents, Christopher has received numerous awards and accolades. She was active in the London rave scene of the early nineties, before moving to Los Angeles, where she met "Mr Smith" (AKA Christopher Lawrence, a struggling bedroom DJ) and they were married shortly after. Continuing her career in dance music, Sara worked for several years for German techno star Sven Vath at the LA office of his labels Eye Q Music / Harthouse before becoming the Los Angeles editor of respected US electronic music mag XLR8R.
