Dr. Lynne Parker is leading a new initiative at the University of Tennessee focusing on artificial intelligence. Parker believes AI can play a major role in agriculture. Amy Beckham Artificial Intelligence in agriculture Hello there and welcome to Tennessee Home and Farm Radio. I'm Amy Beckham. Dr. Lynne Parker I'm leading a new initiative at UT. It's really for the state as a whole to help us with developing AI across the state. So it's a research and education initiative with the goal of helping make sure that Tennessee becomes a leader in the data intensive knowledge economy. Amy Beckham Dr. Lynn Parker has been with the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for more than 20 years and is an expert on distributed and intelligent robot systems, human robot interaction and AI or artificial intelligence. She explains more how UT is focused on this initiative. Dr. Lynne Parker Kind of embracing our land grant mission of helping the state as a whole. So it's educational institutions across the state, its industry across the state and its community organizations as well on how we can all work together to help each other navigate this new transformation that's coming along because of AI. Amy Beckham Through the years technology and agriculture has drastically changed. And Dr. Parker says agriculture can be an industry where AI flourishes and benefits farmers. Dr. Lynne Parker There are so many applications of AI in agriculture. And I think what we'll see is that they're going to be able to increase productivity, I think it will reduce cost, it will also help with a lot of the labor shortages that many farmers are experiencing. So there are a lot of different kinds of benefits to AI in agriculture and so many different kinds of use cases. Amy Beckham It's also safe to say that many have concerns about this new technology and Dr. Parker provides some insight and positive thinking. Dr. Lynne Parker AI like any technology has both positive uses and negative uses. And I think we just have to learn how to experience the benefits of these technologies, while at the same time being responsible with them and coming up with the right governance mechanisms that make sure that we don't experience those negative arms. What scares a lot of people is what we don't know. So there's a lot of conversations now in the policy world about how do we approach artificial intelligence and provide the right governance around it to make sure that those negative consequences don't come to fruition. Amy Beckham For Tennessee Home and Farm Radio. I'm Amy Beckham.

In this episode we meet Nic Lamont introduced to me by Lynne Parker of Funny Women fame. I loved talking to Nic to find out how she had decided to go into acting in the first place and how she found her dark comedy niche. I was interested to hear how she bolsters the uncertainty of acting work with 'money jobs' and how she navigated the pandemic, being pregnant and then becoming a new mum whilst also being an actress. I loved to hear that now she has her family she is more decisive on what she will and won't do, has written her own work and most recently set up a community project. I don't know how she fits it all in. To hear more, have a listen, rate, review and enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Channyn is a Human rights advocate, public speaker, community-centric leader, Director of Strategic Partnerships for Howard Brown Health Center and serves on the board, at Equality Illinois. In 2011, the Cook County Board of Corrections set out to implement new policies for transgender inmates. This coincided with Channyn being brought on as a Re-entry Specialist. While working at the jail, she started encouraging the inmates to have conversations that led them to think in ways they did not know they had the capacity. This new thinking inspired worthiness and value in their lives. She then brought in non-transgender male inmates where they experienced common ground aside from their identities and realized that there is a shared humanity amongst all of us. From this experience, she realized the way things are going to get better is if all of us come together as the sum of humanity and let go of what is blocking us.

Ten of Ireland's leading theatres, drama festivals and theatre companies have agreed to a range of gender equality policies, which in some cases will see “gender-blind casting” or ensuring that half of new shows will be written by women. The gender equality policy for the theatre sector, launched by Minister for Culture Josepha Madigan, arose from the Waking the Feminists campaign to address the under-representation of women, including writers and directors, in Irish theatre. Roísín Ingle talks to academic Dr Brenda Donohue, who has produced a study on the subject, & Lynne Parker, director and co-founder of Rough Magic theatre company.
Tatty bye, Doddy. The most famous resident of Knotty Ash, wielder of the tickling stick and creator of the Diddymen, has died. Sir Ken Dodd's widow said: "He just wanted to make people happy". He was both of his time - described as "one of the last music hall greats" - and timeless. From his debut at the Nottingham Empire in 1954 as "Professor Yaffle Chucklebutty: Operatic Tenor and Sausage Knotter," he never failed to reduce his audiences to tears of helpless laughter. For some, there could be no higher moral purpose of comedy than this. Yet we don't all agree about what is funny or even about what comedy is for. There will always be those who think that some subjects are beyond humour. Others will say it's the target of the humour that's important. Should comedy reinforce or challenge the moral consensus of its audience? When is mockery offensive and when is it satire? Where is the line between challenging bigotry and reinforcing stereotypes? Are comedians as important as pundits or politicians to the health of democracy? Or has comedy dumbed down debate and trivialised issues we should be taking seriously? Was Molière right when he said that the function of comedy is "to correct men's vices"? Or should we just stick a cucumber through next doors' letter box and tell them the Martians have landed? Witnesses are Dominic Frisby, Prof Matthew Flinders, Lynne Parker and Ted Robbins. Producer: Dan Tierney.

Mike knows the life of a revolutionary is complicated, and often involves going “off grid,” but this doesn’t usually involve enrolling in Traffic School or chatting your teacher up. Now the bodies are piling up and a mystery caller has begun leaving messages, but are they friend or foe? And can the gang cut it as they become what they once hated?
