This week we're finding out about the unique and special Lough Carra, renowned for its marl bottom which gave the water an alluring blue and aquamarine appearance. Not only that but the fishing – and mayfly fishing especially – was pretty spectacular. But like so many things in nature, Lough Carra went into decline due to eutrophication. However, the Lough has many interested stakeholders, not least the local communities, which have been vociferous and active in their attempts at restoring Carra to its once greatness. And Tom Byrne, of the Lough Carra Catchment Association, and lifelong angler, joins us to tell us more. A great resource on Lough Carra is at:https://loughcarra.org/ And here's an interesting paper on the marl crusts of the lough:https://loughcarra.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/The-Marl-Crusts-of-Lough-Carra-by-Dr-P.-Doddy-2019.pdf Keep up to date with all the latest Ireland on the Fly on https://www.IrelandontheFly.com and get regular updates on https://Instagram.com/IrelandontheFly.

Cameron Green's back injury has once again sparked debate around the Australian batting order for the upcoming Test series against India. Does Steve Smith drop back to four? Does that open up a position for an opener to step up from domestic cricket? Victorian opener Marcus Harris is one of those vying for Test selection, and he started the summer with a Player of the Match performance for the Vics against Tasmania. Harris joined Matt Clinch on Summer Grandstand to talk about his knock and Test chances.
Sir Ken Dodd's career spanned over 70 years in show business and might I say at the Top of his game. He was Liverpool's very own and even The Beatles adored him as one of the greatest comedians we have ever seen. Doddy as he was known to millions had an encyclopaedia of a mind for comedy words, gags, routines and song whilst also topping the charts with his own albums as he had a beautiful voice he didn't even need comedy to earn his living. Ken Dodd stayed true to his roots and never left his childhood home in Knotty Ash, Liverpool. He was Mr Variety, the GodFather of Comedy and King of the Diddy men.Although we lost Ken aged 90, he was still planning to return to the stage to continue touring but nature took its course and took from us an idol and someone who inspired many generations of comedians, actors, singers, magicians and ventriloquists across the country. In my final podcast in tribute to Sir Ken I talk with his friends, writers, support acts and his dear wife Lady Anne Jones about the man they loved and adored. And now he has left us there is more Doddy out there than ever so he will always be in Liverpool.Welcome to Eyes & Teeth Sir Ken Dodd xxx

I talk with women about their body and health goals everyday. And I can help many of them. Here's how part of that conversation sometimes goes… I ask about your biggest struggles, and you pour out your angst and pain. IF I can help you, and I feel like you're a good fit for my coaching, I share what I do and how we'd work together so you reach your goals. You tell me: “YES! This is exactly what I need!” Then sometimes you add: “But I have to talk to my husband.” You'll say he's “supportive,” but you still need to ask him. In today's episode, Roger joins me to lend us the “male perspective” and to talk about this issue of husbands being “supportive” versus “understanding.” He sheds light on why husbands can't possibly understand what we're going through. And he explains why your husband won't think you need help to resolve it. We tell a few personal stories, giving you more insight into what we've been through. And Roger shares tips and advice for how to approach your husband about this issue, so he will be much MORE supportive and understanding. Join us for this chat and let me know your thoughts!
Amin. (Dod).

Join them for an hour of generally uninformed, irrelevant chat - where they discuss topics such as being an accidental Peeping Tom, sleeping in the same room as Mother Teresa, and getting shouted at by Santa. Stephen is an openly gay, cruise ship magician - and is proud to be at the front of that much underrepresented part of society. He is often heard regaling anecdotes such as how he found himself as a performer on a swingers cruise, his lowest life moment being with Paul Daniel's son at a patisserie in Brazil, and how he tried to blend in at an Australian dive bar. In hindsight, the floral shirt and exposed ankles were a mistake. Ryan has been Stephen's best friend since they first met at 11 years old and shared a communal love for the anecdote. He is the marketing manager for an afternoon tea company, is yet to attend a none catastrophic yoga class, and once got heckled by an eleven year old for being too scared to go on a water slide. He's also openly hetero, although his constant praise of ABBA could lead you to believe otherwise.

Tatty bye, Doddy. The most famous resident of Knotty Ash, wielder of the tickling stick and creator of the Diddymen, has died. Sir Ken Dodd's widow said: "He just wanted to make people happy". He was both of his time - described as "one of the last music hall greats" - and timeless. From his debut at the Nottingham Empire in 1954 as "Professor Yaffle Chucklebutty: Operatic Tenor and Sausage Knotter," he never failed to reduce his audiences to tears of helpless laughter. For some, there could be no higher moral purpose of comedy than this. Yet we don't all agree about what is funny or even about what comedy is for. There will always be those who think that some subjects are beyond humour. Others will say it's the target of the humour that's important. Should comedy reinforce or challenge the moral consensus of its audience? When is mockery offensive and when is it satire? Where is the line between challenging bigotry and reinforcing stereotypes? Are comedians as important as pundits or politicians to the health of democracy? Or has comedy dumbed down debate and trivialised issues we should be taking seriously? Was Molière right when he said that the function of comedy is "to correct men's vices"? Or should we just stick a cucumber through next doors' letter box and tell them the Martians have landed? Witnesses are Dominic Frisby, Prof Matthew Flinders, Lynne Parker and Ted Robbins. Producer: Dan Tierney.
The song I have sent you this week came from an idea I had when getting off the train in Liverpool and saw this guy busking in the subway….it’s called “Subway Songman”. Sugar is on the menu this week…every time you turn on the TV or the radio we are getting reports of record tooth decay in kid’s teeth…all because of sugary fizzy drinks. It’s a miracle how guys of our age survived….I remember having sugar butties when I was a kid…and drinking gallons of lemonade…and I’ve still got my teeth….they are saying that some kids have to have ALL there baby teeth out….and so the scare mongering continues…and the dentists get richer….any day now we’ll be back to the old humbug of lead in toys…it’s about time that cropped up again. Some genius has worked out that supermarkets are misleading us with their pricing….wow there’s a surprise….isn’t it called “business” …and if they can legally get away with something they will…apparently they are saying that things are reduced when they are not….this has always been the case….the way the law used to be was you had to sell something at a certain price for 28 days before you could drop the price and call it a “reduction” or “Sale…you could then only sell it at the new price for 6 months before it was no longer a reduction or a sale…get it?...confused?...yeah so is everyone else…which makes one ask how these carpet firms have sales which go on forever? The BBC have come under attack because they are going to put the licence fee up for those on a high salary or something…they are complaining that people are not watching TV…they watch their iPads etc….it has been suggested that they put adverts on which would subsidise the money they waste…..but this was instantly rejected. What they need to do is put something on which is WATCHABLE instead of the tripe we are constantly subjected to….last Saturday I watched The John Bishop Show….oh dear … this was about as bad as it gets…I like JB but he should go into acting because he isn’t funny…and the up and coming “comedians” he has on are bysmal….annoyingly so……HOWEVER after thinking comedy was dead and buried I watched Frank Skinner’s “man in a suit” stand up and laughed for the whole hour…he is so funny and clever….he should run classes for all the modern rubbish comics and show them how it’s done. I was delighted to see Tommy Steele on The One Show…..he is 78 and looks great…..he really should be knighted….back in the day he was the only original pop star we had in this country…all the others were Elvis clones….Tommy had his own style and has worked the big Christmas shows ever since….I’ve got a lot of time for him and wish I’d had the opportunity to meet him. But alas like Doddy he has sadly been overlooked….much better to give knighthoods to those who really deserve it…like Jimmy Savile or Rolph Harris?

Hull will be the 2017 capital of culture….I am pleased for them because the city has taken some stick over the years….getting this status made a huge difference to Liverpool…it is now a fantastic place to visit and brings in thousands of tourists….last Monday my wife and I decided to jump on the ferry boat and take a look around the Museum of Life on Pierhead…first off the boat takes you up river with a fascinating commentary on the history of the area then pulls in at the new landing stage at Pierhead. To say the Museum is stunning is an understatement…wonderful…and FREE!!!......it shows the history of the city from the word go…on three floors…fantastic. Ken Dodd has a small section dedicated to him at the museum….when you consider how much this guy has put into showbiz and how popular he STILL is and yet he has not got a knighthood…makes you wonder …especially when you think of SIR Terry Wogan and..dare I say it…..SIR Jimmy Savile… I caught up on the bit of Children in Need programme I missed last Friday…. I really enjoyed McFly who I think are a great talented bunch of lads…and Jeff Lynne who did a great job of Mr.Blue Sky”…and it was nice to see Agnetha from ABBA singing with Gary arlow….Barlow wrote the song they sang together which is O.K. but not a patch on some of the other stuff on her new album….absolute masterpieces…I don’t know who has written or produced the songs but they are top notch. They also had a bloke called “Passenger” (foreign I think) who sang a song with just an acoustic….respect. How about this guy who was the boss of the Co-op Bank eh?...Paul Flowers….into allsorts (allegedly)…drugs etc……and Miliband (whose party gave him the job) has been on saying we must move on… The Monty Pythons are making a comeback…..they had a press conference and the whole world was there…Palin made me laugh when a Spanish journalist asked him a question and he said “I didn’t expect the Spanish Inquisition”….some people never found them funny but I was a huge fan…

We videoed some of the best action from the trip - from the likes of Gee Atherton and UK freeride king Chris Smith. You can read all about it in the mag, but here's the best place to see the footage you won't find anywhere else. We've got a front row seat to all the best action, and we're letting you join us.
