Throughout their journey, Sharon emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries, taking care of yourself, and meeting loves ones where they are.By sharing her story, including the heartbreaking loss of Teddy to an accidental overdose, Sharon hopes to bring comfort to other bereaved families and spread awareness. She wants them to know they are not alone, and that a compassionate, understanding community is here to support them.Teddy was so much more than his addiction. His legacy of open-heartedness, curiosity, and non-judgmental spirit lives on through the work of the Teddy Kradzinski Foundation. Brendan! is back from Orlando and ready for the fifth annual Zurich Classic Walk-up Music Quiz! Andy peppers Brendan with questions about his vacation, setting up some takes about the best theme park rides in central Florida and observations about the human race. In golf news, the two preview LIV Mexico and take a deeper look at the league's scheduling ahead of the PGA Championship. Is traveling across the world and back to Charlotte the best way to get ready for Quail Hollow? It looks like we'll find out! Early returns from the Chevron and Zurich are also discussed, with Kevin Chappell replacing a withdrawn Billy Horschel getting most of the shine. Brendan reads a listener email about the Buffalo Bills ahead of tonight's NFL Draft and Andy has an update on where Hooters sources their chicken wings following Wednesday's debate with "The Boys." Before getting to the Walk-up Music Quiz, Andy and Brendan share some information about the new Fried Egg Golf website. Finally, Andy quizzes Brendan on potential walk-up songs for teams at this week's Zurich Classic before going rogue with the soundboard and likely getting this episode removed from YouTube.

Andy and Brendan close out a fun week with the annual SGS tradition for the Zurich Classic, the Walk-Up Music Guessing Game. But first, there is joy and optimism about a new era of Bears football with the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft coming to town. There's less joy about a proposed stadium renovation. Then it's on to golf, or something like golf with “Conspiracy Theory Friday” about the lack of publicly available data and shot tracking information this week. Then they get to the news of the player equity distribution amounts that were reported earlier this week. What does it mean and does anyone even know? The Walk-Up Music Game throws Brendan for a loop on several occasions, but he does make contact on a few. They close with the Bagel Boys Zone and a quick chat about LIV Adelaide before one Friday Advice email on a real, actual Chip Monk.

And we'll close inviting you to the 18th Annual Walk for Independence to benefit ARI - one of the smallest providers of services for adults with developmental disabilities in the state. Learn how ARI's uniquely intimate program provides a “family like” environment and more individualized approach to services and supports based on each individual's needs and interests.
As we sit down with the remarkable Atlantis Narcisse, her story unfolds, revealing the heart and soul she pours into Save Our Sisters United and her crucial role as a house mother. This week's conversation is nothing short of inspiring as we honor her nomination for Grand Marshal at Houston's Pride 365 Parade and delve into her commitment to offering stigma-free spaces for HIV/STD testing. Atlantis shares with us the vibrant ways the community participates, from the whimsy of unicycling to the charm of a dog dressing contest. The conversation takes a poignant turn as we remember those we've lost to AIDS and celebrate the progress in HIV treatment and housing as a cornerstone of healthcare. Atlantis's voice carries the weight and warmth of experience as she reminisces about the evolution of support services like the Stone Soup food pantry and the declining young attendance at Camp Hope, a testament to advancements in HIV prevention. The episode takes a creative twist with Alan Cumming, who offers an exclusive glimpse into his show "Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age," a captivating blend of storytelling, music, and musings on the art of growing older with flair. We then transition to the sobering story of the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing, reimagined in the powerful play "Tide," with insights from actor Jason Carmichael and director Bruce Lumpkin. The narrative comes full circle as we round out the episode with global LGBTQ+ rights updates, highlighting triumphs and acknowledging hurdles in the universal quest for equality. In this episode, Michele Rogers shares with us her journey of losing her son. This was a powerful conversation about what happens next as well as her experience. The biggest take away from this conversation is, this is not a parenting problem. Here is just a little of Michele's story and what she has to say:I grew up in Tidewater Virginia and later attended Saint Leo College in Florida. I had two sons, Clayton (1989) and Bradley (1992). When I divorced in 1996 I moved with my young sons to Waynesville, NC. I worked in hospitality and marketing. I met my husband in 1999 and was remarried in 2003. I became a Real Estate Broker in 2005 and worked in sales until buying a Property Management Company in 2010. My husband and I are both NC Real Estate Brokers and together with our small staff, we manage over 400 long term rental properties for our company Select Homes. When my oldest son, Clay, was in her very early 20s he had a sinus surgery and was over-prescribed pain pills. He became addicted to the pain pills and entered treatment for the first time in 2012. His pain pill addiction turned into a heroin addiction around 2015. From 2012-2018 Clay cycled in nd out of rehab, being substance free, relapsing and back to rehab. In September of 2018 after being substance free for 11 months, Clay relapsed and last his life to fentanyl. After losing my son, I knew I wanted to do something to help other family members navigate the lonely journey of having a loved one with SUD and the even lonelier grief journey after losing someone to Substance Passing. I met Lisa Falbo and we learned that we had this in common and together we started the 501(c)3 - The SHARE Project. SHARE stands for Spreading Hope and Awareness and Removing the Epidemic Stigma. We hold events including quarterly workshops to bring awareness and education of the drug epidemic. We sit on several drug awareness and prevention coalitions throughout our county and region. We facilitate two monthly support groups - SMART RECOVERY FAMILY & FRIENDS for those who have loved ones struggling with SUD and GRASP - Grief Recovery After Substance Passing. We host an annual Drug Awareness Walk and Event as well as an annual International Overdose Awareness Event. This past may we had almost 300 people attend out Annual Walk and Awareness Event. When I'm not working at my property management company or with The SHARE Project, I enjoy traveling with my husband, Rick and spending time with my two grandsons, Elijah (8) and Wyatt (4).Additional LinksThe Share ProjectA Mother's Pledge

The birth of a baby is such a happy time, but it also brings about many changes in the life of a family. Those adjustments can contribute to new mothers -- and fathers -- feeling anything but content. Many parents experience mental health challenges in the time before and after a baby is born. An event in St. John's is being organized to help raise awareness. Medical student Jamie Green, originally from St. Anthony, is organizing the 1st Annual Walk for Perinatal Mental Health.

The Highway Of Tears is a strip of land which is approximately 724km long in British Columbia that stretches from Prince Rupert to Prince George. Since 1969, and possibly sooner, primarily Indigenous women, estimates are anywhere between 18 and over 40, have gone missing or have been found murdered along the Highway Of Tears. It is an area where serial killers both known and unknown are active. They continue to be active with no consequences and no real concern of being caught because majority of the targets are Indigenous women and girls and based on BC history the police in that area do not typically care to take cases involving Indigenous women and girls seriously. It is also apparent that racism is hugely wrapped up in these cases, the way they are handled, the way they are reported and the way the families are supported after the tragedy occurs. The RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) only opened investigations into these disappearances and deaths in 2005 after immense public pressure to do so. They however, only acknowledge and are investigating 18 cases and are ignoring many others when a lot of the public feel they should obviously be included. Few, if any cases have been solved and many also remain cold. Just like in all of the other cases, where the police have been overall extremely ineffective and they are relying solely on public tips now to make any sort of advancement. In order to give each woman and girl, as well as other aspects of this case the focus they deserve, it is broken down into two parts for the first time. In this episode we will be discussing the cases of: Gloria Moody, Micheline Pare, Gayle Weys, Pamela Darlington, Monica Ignas, Colleen MacMillen, Monica Jack, Maureen Mosie, Shelley Anne Bacsu, Alberta Williams, Delphine Nikal, Ramona Wilson, Roxanne Thiara, Alishia Germaine, Lana Derrick, Nicole Hoar, Tamara Chipman and Aielah Saric-Auger. We will also briefly get into the RCMP investigation but mainly focusing on sharing any information that can be helpful to the families. A walk to promote “Unity in the Community” takes place this Saturday, Oct. 2, in Haverhill.The14th annual Walk for Peace, under the direction of Violence Intervention and Prevention, known as VIP, also includes a cookout, speak out, face painting, music, color powder and more. Haverhill VIP Program Director Carol Ireland, a recent guest on WHAV's morning program, detailed the program.“We'll start at GAR Park, go down Winter Street, make a left on Locust Street, down to Granite and Essex Street and out to Railroad Square. We'll be coming down Washington Street, the entire way to Main Street. When we get to Main Street, we go up to City Hall and we will stop there for about 10 to 15 minutes to hear speeches from two of our young people,” she said.At City Hall, participants will also hear from a special guest with a unique perspective.“We're very lucky to also have a woman by the name of Clarissa Turner who will also be speaking because we wanted to represent a mom who has been impacted by violence. She lost her son. She's from Boston and has started an organization called ‘Legacy Lives On.' We know that we have many people in our own community that have been impacted by violence and have lost, whether it's to violence or to homicide or to suicide. We want to create more space for some of our survivors,” she said.Ireland said those participating in the walk, approximately 1.5 miles in length, are asked to carry in support of the effort.“We have some signs that we've been able to save, new ones we've made, please bring a sign with any message you care to about peace, respect”Ireland said all people, young and old, are encouraged to participate in the Haverhill VIP Walk for Peace. It starts Saturday at 11 a.m. She said research conducted by Boston University School of Public Health indicates young people who have participated in the VIP program are less likely to be involved with a gang, physical fighting decreases, healthy relationship skills increase and there's an improvement in self-esteem.The Violence Intervention and Prevention program began in 2005 at Haverhill High School. It has grown to include students of all ages and partners with various groups and organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Haverhill, UTEC and YMCA.Support the show (https://whav.net/become-a-whav-member/)

I had the pleasure of meeting Thomas at the 1st Annual Walk for Recovery! He is the owner of Fenix Fit, a local gym in the neighboring town next to me. He has a story filled with Military Service, drug and alcohol use, geographic switch ups and last but not least, recovery. In his sobriety and in the middle of a global pandemic he also opened his gym. He is a runner, strength coach, father, husband and a man of recovery and he has LOTS of stories to tell!
After year off, the PGA Tour returns to New Orleans and while there may no longer be walk-up music at this event, the listeners demand that this annual game goes on. So Andy makes a playlist of songs hinting at the inane, insider, and downright specious. Play along as Brendan attempts to guess what Andy is getting at with some of these song choices for a few SGS favorites on Tour. This comes after they run through the schedule for the week, with the LA Open on the LPGA winning event of the week honors. Andy dishes on some of the great features to watch for at Wilshire. There’s some intel from the first ever Euro Tour event in Gran Canaria about roads running through the course that will kick balls hundreds of yards away from where they land. There’s also ample chatter about some of the puzzling partnerships this week at Zurich.

It’s time for the Lupus Detroit 7th Annual Walk for Warriors. Val Harris Carter is the organization's Board Secretary and Shannon Hester is a Lupus Warrior. Val has been involved with the organization since its beginning stepping out on faith with Founder/Executive Director Sharon Harris to start this organization to fill a gap left by the more traditional Lupus organizations. Val has lost two family members to this disease. She uses her background in communications and marketing to inform and an educate others about the disease and build support for Lupus Detroit. In this episode of our Six Weeks to Fitness podcast, I am joined by Mrs. Idera Abdullah (“Sister Bisi”), Founder and Executive Director of IMANI HOUSE, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, serving marginalized youth, families, and immigrants in Brooklyn, NY, and Liberia, West Africa. During the interview, Sister Bisi will share her motivation for creating Imani House. With programs ranging from literacy and job readiness classes for adults, to after-school programs and camps for children, Imani House continues to accomplish great things with the vision and hard work of Sister Bisi as its driving force. Also in the interview, Sister Bisi will discuss the work Imani House is doing to address the epidemic of childhood obesity, through their upcoming 6th Annual “Walk to Live Walk-A-Thon and Festival,” which will take place on June 2nd from 9:30am to 3pm, at the Grecian Shelter in Prospect Park, entrance at Parkside Ave and Parade Place. One of Imani House’s missions is to “help people do for themselves,” and walking, Sister Bisi believes, is one of the best exercises you can do for yourself. It doesn’t’ cost you anything but it can improve your health significantly and that’s how it started for Sister Bisi. She was once very overweight and when a friend initially invited her to participate in a walk, she tried and failed but that didn’t stop her from continuing to try. On her third attempt at walking around the park, she succeeded and became an avid walker ever since. Sister Bisi knows what walking can do to improve your health. Sister Bisi noted that too many kids today are suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure due to lack of inactivity and poor eating habits. This is more prevalent among black and Latino kids. The 6th Annual Walk to Live Walk-A-Thon and Festival was created to bring communities together and bring awareness to this very serious issue before it gets worse. Following the 3.5-mile walk, there will be various types of fun activities, including music, dancing, games and prizes. There will also be healthy snacks and visits from local politicians. All are welcome to attend. For more information about participating, volunteering, or supporting Walk-to-Live, please visit www.ihiwalktolive.com, email imani@imanihouse.org, or call (718) 638-2059. This was a very inspiring interview. I hope to see you at the Walk!
