Naturally, Fiona has to continually drive a comprehensive fund-raising strategy. This year, Reminiscence will be holding a 'Jailbreak' from Shepton Mallet prison. Ten 'convicts' are already lined up for this unique event in May, timed to coincide with Dementia Action Week. Our guest tells us why this event is going to have huge impact. As a subject matter expert, Fiona has contributed to key research into dementia and was part of a group that wrote a Commonwealth Report showcasing successful models of dementia care. To demonstrate how successful The Archie Project has become, it was included among twenty projects idenitifed across the commonwealth as role-models for future programmes. We are, of course, The Business Awards Show, and so Fiona explains why awards have been so vital to the development of Reminiscence Learning. Her Charity Champion award at the 2024 Best Businesswomen Awards was a real triumph, and as she explains, totally unexpected. Path to Wellbeing with Nicola Court is a fascinating insight into the world of women's health. Working as a photographer, Nicola grew bored and trained in massage. When she was made redundant, she used her new-found skill but soon found massaging for eight hours physically tiring. In 2004, she decided to train in clinical acupuncture. With a growing knowledge of gynaecology, acupuncture and holistic medicine, Nicola set up Path to Wellbeing. She explains how an ever-growing demand led to her specialising in women's health issues with particular focus on fertility and the menopause. Nicola enlightens us how acupuncture works on our bodies and the benefits it delivers. She has strong opinions about dealing with many of the pressures of modern life, for example, advocating breathing exercises over meditation and mindfulness as a way to cope with stress. Furthermore, she has much to say about menopause treatment, firmly believing that HRT is not always the best approach to finding relief. Nicola demonstrates how vital resilience, customer-focus, and consistency are in maintaining a successful business for twenty-six years. She recounts how the pandemic proved a serious challenge, but one she navigated successfully. She finally found the confidence to enter the Best Businesswomen Awards in 2024, where she won a silver award for Health & Beauty. The whole experience proved an eye-opener, mixing with other successful businesswomen, and being validated for her business success. The 'Woman Who' Awards owner Sandra Garlick joins us for the latest episode of the Business Awards Show. Sandra shares her frustrating awards experiences, leading her to start her own! The Woman Who Awards were born ten years ago to celebrate the accomplishments of women in various business sectors. The Woman Who Solopreneur Awards followed. Sandra tells us why she called the awards 'Woman Who' and why her scheme has no categories. In fact, she reveals a number of differences with other awards programmes. She recognises everyone shortlisted, gives entrants an opportunity to amend their entries if she thinks they can be improved, and even hands out 'One to Watch' awards for those who don't win the main awards. The number of awards given varies each year as the judges decide on those worthy of the accolade. Debbie and Sandra discuss the awards industry in detail, bemoaning those who use them to build email lists, emphasising that any awards that require you to get votes is not an award with integrity. She has over 30 years' experience in the legal industry, and now acts as a business and visibility strategist and a speaker & mentor. Her background makes her a uniquely supportive awards owner, helping entrants to hone their entries, providing free workshops, even allowing businesswomen to edit their entries if nominated by a third party. She proves that business awards can have integrity, and add true value to any businesswoman's reputation and portfolio. This is a fascinating listen between two passionate awards owners who believe in the need for recognition for women in business. {1:16} Why Sandra went into the world of awards. {4:36} What the name 'Woman Who' stands for. {5:22} An awards without categories. {6:52} Starting the awards locally. {7:43} Starting the Solopreneur Awards. {8:48} Sandra's business network. {9:49} Helping female entrepreneurs produce high-quality award entries. {11:59} Getting entries in by the deadline. {15:12} Conducting in-person interviews with shortlisted finalists. {16:27} The Woman Who Live Event. {17:32} How the number of awards presented is decided. {20:18} Life as a solicitor. {22:35} Keeping the awards industry honest. {26:07} Why running awards is so difficult. Middle managers need far more support to help them thrive in their roles and develop into effective senior executives. So Lisa Robyn Wood, owner of GRIP Coaching tells us. Lisa was a successful middle manager at such major corporates as British Gas and Lucozade Ribena. She enjoyed her jobs but started to realise that coaching people was the thing she most loved. What sets her apart is she acted on it. Lisa put herself through a recognised coaching qualification, and began coaching as a side hustle in 2016. In 2020, she left the corporate world, and joined her husband running a pub in Oxfordshire. Little did she know that COVID was just around the corner, bringing a set of challenges greater than any she had faced as an employee. Despite the myriad issues she was faced with, Lisa navigated that period successfully and when her husband decided it was time to sell the pub she was ready for the next step in her journey. Having been growing her coaching business whilst working, Lisa became fully committed to GRIP Coaching in 2022, a business that is growing year by year. Her voice is also reaching many through the podcast she launched with her co-founder Suzy Hunt, The Coaching Cast. Lisa tells us all about the pod and the wide-ranging subjects the pair discuss. Find out why coaching became so important to her and how she struggled with her own insecurities and lack of confidence as a manager. Having worked for British Gas, she is passionate about the utilities sector and explains why the perception the public has is rather skewed by the media. It is why she has joined the Women in Utilities Network and became a judge for their inaugural awards, celebrating successful women working in energy and water. She has also become a judge for this year's Best Businesswomen Awards, and compares her experience across the two programmes. Discover what she found so impressive about the entries for the BBWAs and why awards can have such an impact for female entrepreneurs. Lisa is great company, and anyone listening will get lots of insight into coaching, and inspiration from someone who followed their dream despite the significant pressure it put on her. It is also a useful reference point for anyone thinking of entering awards because it is likely Lisa will convince you to just do it! {3:53} Lisa's journey into coaching. {10:11} Juggling a corporate role with a side hustle. {14:36} Leaving the corporate world behind as COVID hit. {16:57} The Coaching Cast Podcast. {18:24} Subjects on the pod. {21:48} Judging the Women in Utilities Awards. {27:18} Comparing entrants in the WIU and BBWA Awards. {30:25} What next for GRIP Coaching? {33:19} Who Lisa would like to collaborate with. Our latest episode discovers why networking builds award-winning businesses. Louise Yexley is someone who knows. She runs nine Women In Business Network (WIBN) groups across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, setting up her first group in 2009. I've known Louise for sixteen years, and I cannot think of anyone better qualified to tell us about the power of networking, and why awards are so important in developing the network. Louise has won awards for Best Franchisee, Best e-Business, and Best Networking Group. She tells us how this has had such a dramatic impact on the credibility and attractiveness of her networking business. In addition, it boosted her self-confidence and drive. Louise was the perfect candidate to be part of the Best Businesswomen Awards judging panel. She tells us how this transformed her view of awards, seeing things from the other side. It also emphasises how a robust judging process is so essential to a successful awards programme. Like many networking organisations, Louise had to take the business online during the pandemic. She explains the differences between the physical and the virtual world, and why WIBN is moving increasingly back to a face-to-face model. The Toilet Queen with Becky Wall is the latest episode of the Business Awards Show featuring a female entrepreneur who is steeped in business awards. Although hers are rather more unconventional than most! Becky has been passionate about toilets since her mother used to check them before allowing her family into any establishment. This led her to run her own business, A Plush Flush, started in 2006, providing luxury toilets for all sorts of events. Having won a platinum award at the Loo of the Year Awards in 2017, she was offered the opportunity to take over the awards programme in 2021. Running for 37 years, Becky proudly tells us why the Loo of the Year Awards are important to all of us; toilets are, after all, something we all use. She also explains her campaigning work around the Changing Places programme, a project fighting to significantly increase the number of public toilets available to disabled people, to allow them the facilities they need. You may not have given much thought to toilets, but all of us have stories about soaking, filthy floors, overflowing sinks, toilets that don't seem to have been cleaned for days, and much more. Becky fights every day to ensure that we all have access to the best washroom facilities possible across the UK and tells us why it matters. You may not run a business that involves providing toilets to the public, but this episode will offer deep insights into what is important to customers, why toilets are so important in any business, and the power of following your passion, no matter how leftfield it may seem. {1:42} Becky's back story. {7:13} How running the Loo of the Year Awards helped Becky's business. {8:20} We're all toilet inspectors! {9:45} Joining the board of the British Toilet Association. {11:25} A high profile in the toilet industry makes a difference. {12:42} The Loo of the Year Awards. {14:54} Making public toilets more accessible for the disabled. {17:50} Addressing people's personal toilet issues. {18:31} The Loo of the Year Awards categorisation process. {20:00} Becky's advice for new entrepreneurs. {23:53} The necessity of attending to toilets. {26:47} Becoming a Best Businesswomen Awards sponsor. {25:05} How to enter the Loo of the Year Awards. {28:30} Why toilet standards are so fundamental to small, independent businesses.
