In this "Giant Mess", New York Mets fan Neal Lynch recaps the series against the San Francisco Giants, St.Louis Cardinals, and Chicago Cubs. Can the bullpen keep up the great work? Should we be worried about Edwin Diaz's velocity? What is going on with Adrian Houser? Is this the best outfield the Mets have had in a long time? What will it take to make a postseason run? I answer absolutely none of these questions and less. ABOUT "GIANT MESS": "Giant Mess" is a sloppy sports and entertainment talk show hosted by a giant mess, The Real Cinch Neal Lynch. Neal's a New York Giants football and NY Mets baseball fan who loves movies, TV shows, and funny stories. ABOUT NEAL LYNCH: I'm an Irish-Italian-American who graduated from a Catholic high school (but isn't Catholic), and a college known for producing doctors and lacrosse players, then became neither. Instead, I'm a former college quarterback & pitcher with a film and media studies degree who currently overthinks everything. This week we soak with musician and newly inspired home ‘landscaper,' Austin Bisnow. Austin and I have connected over taking walks with our dogs in the mountains. Today we spend time in the bath, where he shares his path to creating his band, Magic Giant and the magical story of meeting his life partner. Austin grew up in Washington D.C. and now lives in Los Angeles. He made stops in New York and Boulder, CO along the way. However, it wasn't until living in Venice, CA where, as he describes it, “he discovered he could be himself and it was embraced.” Inspired by the life of artists like Benny Blanco, Jon Batiste and his friend Doug Akin (not to be confused with the fine artist Doug Aitken). Yet his biggest inspiration was his own brother Elliott Bisnow - founder of Summit. Austin explains how he wouldn't self-describe as musically gifted - but that his work ethic and dedication to what he loves (writing and producing songs) is what drives his success as an artist. Before starting his own band, Austin produced and wrote songs for other musicians, including Listen by David Guetta that featured John Legend. Austin recounts how he manifested this collaboration before either of the two artists ever met each other. As a firm believer in manifestation, Austin details how he called in his wife and life partner, Deena, through a series of manifestation exercises including a list of qualities and characteristics. Only a few months after completing the exercise, Austin would meet Deena. Austin traveled from California to New York and then to Montreal to “chase the women of his dreams.” Throughout his career, Austin mainly focused on pop records, but after attending Lollapalooza in Chicago and seeing Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, he was inspired to start a folk-electronic band: thus, the birth of Magic Giant. He observed that not only did they create a full band, but the energy in the emitted was infectious to the crowd and created a community. Community is something he actively builds with Magic Giant now. Listen now to hear how drive and manifestation have created synchronistic moments in Austin's life journey! To join Secular Sabbath membership, you can find us at secular-sabbath.com/membership. Has gone outside of their usual wheelhouse and ventured into the world of instrumental gypsy jazz with their new album Dinner for Derelicts. QUEL BORDEL (QB!) was formed in San Diego, CA in 2013 w/ a Ukrainian, two Filipino brothers, a classically trained violinist, and a punk rock drummer. After the better part of a decade, they have had multiple releases and kept up a vigorous touring regiment of over 150+ shows a year. The band has toured the US, Canada, and Europe, and they have made a small dent in the folk-punk music scene: coining their own sub-genre “world punk.” After the release of their first full-length CD, Caravan Treasures (nominated for Best World Music Album by the 2015 San Diego Music Awards), QB! reveled in a three-week international festival tour with French folk group BandàpArt (headlining Coin de la Vigne, & FestiBaloche in France), which they repeated again 2016 in the US (headlining Crestfest in Colorado, SD GypsyFest in San Diego, and others) amid several regional tours and resident gigs as well. 2017 saw increased regional touring with a full European Tour (headlining Coin de la Vigne again in France, as well as performances at Festibaloche (Olargues, France), and Highmatland Festival (Leutkirch, Germany) a motif that has continued on as the band currently maintains a vigorous touring schedule and band “bromance” with BandàpArt. In fact the two groups have merged into a side-project super-group known as BandàBordel and released an EP together in 2018. QUEL BORDEL! is noted for their wild performances and danceable beats. QB! has headlined sweaty, high-energy shows at House of Blues (Mainstage), The Holding Company, The Casbah, and has performed at the Get Shamrocked festival 7 years in a row. Likewise, the band has shared the stage with: Flatfoot 56, Metallachi, The Rum Jacks, The Real McKenzies, Diego's Umbrella, Sprung Monkey, Magic Giant, Young Dubliners, Dublin City Ramblers, Bridge City Sinners, Daze ‘N Daze, Dirty Kid Discount, and many others. QB also boasts several television slots (including a feature on TLC's Breaking Amish), as well as new music in the pipeline (three EP's released in under a year and two more on the way).Website: http://www.quel-bordel.com

She's tour managed for artists such as Clairo, The Mowglis, Magic Giant, The Staves, Loote, Wrabel, and production managed/stage-managed the festival Girlschool and She Rocks Awards 2018 & 2020. She also had a chance to jump behind the board running FOH for Wrabel, but would still consider herself very much a novice when it comes to sound engineering. She serves as a TM/PM mainly but pulls double duty Tour Managing & Teching when tours require it. During the 'pause' in the touring industry she found work as a Covid Compliance Officer for the ABC/Disney Show REBEL, and adopted a corgi, named Covax both of which kept her pretty busy most of last year. John and Dan share many things in common, most important of which is their absolute love of Bruce Springsteen. Join the gents, as they discuss Springsteen on Broadway, their countless experiences together and apart at E Street Band shows throughout the past 20 years, and what Springsteen has meant to each of them in their lives and music careers. If you're a Springsteen fan, or just a fan of two old music chums talking shop, this weeks episode is the place for you. Besides Bruce, the boys get into some talk about other musical loves such as The Grateful Dead and even a little bit of baseball and hockey talk. John also updates us on The Brevet, their upcoming tour and new music. Check out their newest single "Getaway" at the end of the show! About The Brevet One listen and it's immediately clear that The Brevet have undergone a dramaticevolution on their explosive, ambitious new album, LEGS. Synthesizing the raucous energy of their live show with sonic precision of their extensive studio history, thecollection is the California five-piece's most deeply personal and lyrically sophisticated yet, tackling perception and identity in the digital age with both subtle nuance and blunt force. The songs remain as cinematic as ever, full of rousing choruses and sing-along hooks, but they carry more weight here, propelled inexorably forward by thunderous percussion and blazing electric guitars that blend rock and roll snarl with R&B swagger. The Brevet's roots stretch back to college, when frontman Aric Chase Damm first began writing scores for student films and discovered he had a knack for crafting the kind of evocative music that yields unforgettable on-screen moments. Those early songs led to a licensing deal, and tracks from the band's two independent albums (2013's Battle of the Heart and 2017's American Novel) would go on to be featured in a wide variety of films and television shows in addition to racking up more than nine.million streams on Spotify. With all of The Brevet's success on-screen and online, the group—Damm, drummer David Aguiar, guitarist John Kingsley, and bassist Julian Johnson—was more than ready to get out of the studio and onto the stage. Over the course of the last year, they hit the road for the most intense touring of their career, performing a slew of headline shows alongside support dates with Magic Giant and festival appearances from BottleRock to Firefly. Recorded at the band's own studio in their native Orange County, California, LEGS insists on a relentless optimism, a defiant belief in the power of positivity in the face of darkness and doubt. The album's title actually stands for “Like Every Great Story,” and the record indeed contains all the elements of any memorable tale: struggle and success, tension and release, conflict and resolution. Every great story has a hero, after all, and heroes never give up, even when the going gets tough. That's what The Brevet is all about. The band has played festivals such as Coachella, made TV appearances including The Today Show, broken the top 25 on the US Alternative Chart, and was named one of “10 Artists You Need to Know” by Rolling Stone. In this episode, Zang and Lindsay talk about the ebbs and flows of collaboration, how to "kill your darlings," and why it's totally okay to make something bad at first. And now for something completely different… This week’s episode of Marketing Today was recorded live before an audience and features conversation and performances from Magic Giant, a Los Angeles band that combines equal parts alternative, indie-folk, and pop with infectious spirit and passion to deliver magical, uplifting shows. The band came to Alan’s attention at, of all places, a CMO Club Summit in Santa Monica, and a friendship was formed on the common ground of connecting with people in powerful ways. The band has been touring incessantly behind their debut album “In The Wind,” and they are appearing at festivals this spring and summer, including this month at Coachella — Billboard calls them a Top 10 Act to see there. The case can be made that musicians are the original cause marketers, and Magic Giant certainly fits that mold. They have relationships with a cryptocurrency, greening organizations, and a nutrition bar, among others. And the thing tying them together with the brands in those categories is a common ethos. “Not every partnership is going to be the absolute perfect fit,” says Zambricki. “But I do think it has to be a company we believe in and share the same values with.”  Highlights from this week’s “Marketing Today” podcast include: Magic Giant perform “Set On Fire,” a track from their debut album, “In The Wind.” (1:59) “Ostrich,” mangoes,” and “hope” — Magic Giant members (Austin Bisnow, Zambricki Li, and Zang) introduce themselves and some of their favorite words. (6:24) The missing ingredient: The band discusses how the band came together when Austin and Zambricki met Zang. (10:16) Magic Giant and their creative process: “It’s like a Venn diagram. When we all overlap, that’s the thing that resonates.” (16:34) Radio, music-streaming sites, licensing and touring: Magic Giant discuss how they get their music to the masses. (22:53) Magic Giant take questions from the audience and perform “Shake Me Up.” (26:24) Magic Giant members relate the powerful personal stories that led them to pursue a musical career. (38:06) Magic Giant perform “The Great Divide.” (45:49) Get their NEW Acoustic Album today! Support the show.

I found all three members of LA indie folk band Magic Giant behind Vancouver's Fox Theatre completing another interview while their crew skateboarded in the alley. Magic Giant make crowd clapping, toe-stomping, sing-along type music and spending some time with Austin, Zambricki and Zang was just as energetic and infectious as their live show. These three are non-stop charm, wit and laughter. It was a really fun interview. What ritual does Magic Giant perform before every show? What was the last concert that got the members of Magic Giant to sing along to the set? Does the band's tour van have solar panels on the roof and why? What is the touching story behind the band's song "Jade"? How does the band write together? How does the band democracy get tested? What does the band look for in a potential producer? What was it like to soundtrack a yoga class? What are the pitfalls of recording songs outdoors? Which song was inspired by "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan? You'll have to listen to find out. Tracks played on the radio edit of the show... 1) Magic Giant, In the Wind (2017) "Set On Fire" 2) Bleachers, Gone Now (2017) "Don't Take the Money" (partial) 3) Magic Giant, In the Wind (2017) "Jade" 4) Magic Giant, In the Wind (2017) "Great Divide" (background) 5) Magic Giant, In the Wind (2017) "Great Divide" 6) Magic Giant, In the Wind (2017) "Window" 7) Magic Giant, In the Wind (2017) "Shake Me Up" NO songs CANCON

085: Margot Bisnow on How to Raise an Entrepreneur

College? 9-5 job? In today’s internet-driven world it’s perhaps more possible than ever to skip these and become an entrepreneur. I interview many of them and as an accidental entrepreneur myself, it’s a topic that’s extremely personal to me. It can’t be denied that the rules for success have changed since our parents’ generation. So how do we know how to guide our kids in a changing world? Enter Margot Bisnow, Entrepreneur and Mom Margot Machol Bisnow raised two sons who both grew up to be successful entrepreneurs (just one of her claims to fame!). Her son Elliot Bisnow founded Summit, an influential conference series promoting entrepreneurship, and her son Austin started the Indie band Magic Giant. The entrepreneurial bug bit Margot’s husband Mark too, but later in life, when he started his national newsletter company Bisnow Media at the age of 50. Margot herself, after 20 years in government and serving on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, decided to capture her ideas about entrepreneurship and parenthood in her 2016 book Raising an Entrepreneur: 10 Rules for Nurturing Risk Takers, Problem Solvers, and Change Makers. Something’s up with this family! What did they do differently? Is there a “secret” to unlocking this kind of change-making potential? Parenting an Entrepreneur 101 The entrepreneurs Margot interviewed did in fact have something important in common: a parent (usually a mom!) who believed in them. For her book Margot took on the monumental task of interviewing over 70 mothers and their wildly successful offspring—entrepreneurs, activists, and artists like Eric Ryan of Method products, Robert Stephens of Geek Squad, Adam Braun of Pencils of Promise, Blake Mycoskie of TOMS Shoes, and Tom Scott of Nantucket Nectars. The result is a fascinating collection of stories from families (with a huge variety of backgrounds, social status, and means) who somehow ended up with kids who thought out of the box, weren’t afraid to fail, and went about success in a different way. So what’s the common factor among these families? Can parents do anything to create creative kids? As the mom of 6 kids, I’m hanging on Margot’s every word! In This Episode You’ll Learn: What an entrepreneur really is (and why we’d want our kids to be one … it’s not only about money either!) The lessons learned from interviewing over 70 entrepreneurs and their moms One trait all successful entrepreneurs had in common (hint: it has to do with moms!) Why you may not want your kids to follow your path in life … especially in today's world Reasons why helping your kids may hurt them in the long run What you should never praise (success) and the thing you should (hard work) The influence of birth order on future success as an entrepreneur Higher education: is it really the best path for today’s kids? How to get comfortable with risk-taking and change as a parent And, is it even legal to raise an entrepreneur today? (you’ll see what I mean!) Resources We Mention Book: Margot Bisnow,
