Once again, for reasons we can't fathom, we were graciously invited to appear at the tenth instalment of MPF in order to test the grey matter of some punk rock celebrities.Don't tell the BBC, but its based on Mastermind.Abi (Fast Blood), Danny Barrett (The Crash Mats), Vez (Wonk Unit & XRay Vez) and Riaz (Grail Guard) are all up for the challenge, but who will be crowned victorious? But we do have: Niallism gets the memo about the ska special, being inspired in your sleep, a tasty reminder of our flurry of Manchester Punk Festival activity and for the first ever time, we feel the need to tell people off. You've let me down, you've let the podcast down...etc etc.Music this week is by: Another One, The Slackers, Madness, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Sadaxe

Their 90s/00s skate punk sound will take you right back to the days when you could be out drinking 'til 4am and be in work for 9am. The boys make their cases for who they think should be the next Queen, we chat Propaghandi records, we hear a terrible tale of trouser trouble from Manchester Punk Festival and oh, so much more.Tom's history nerd is showing, Niall is in and out of the episode, we have a review of the FIRST EVER Vader Time Promotions gig too!Music this week is from Von Danikens, Kick Up, The Wimpys, 98 Mute, The Skints and Get The F**K Outta Dodge.

This week's guest is the infamous Tommy Morris from Bruise Control and Terrorpins! Bruise Control are a new garage punk band from Manchester who have garnered a lot of well-deserved hype. They're about to be unleashed upon their first UK tour, in the company of Sniff, one of the UK punk scene's most exciting new acts. To celebrate, Sarah decided to chat to Tommy about all things touring. Tommy's been playing in DIY bands since he was a teenager and has a wealth of stories, experience and anecdotes ... but instead of discussing music, we went on a rant about Christmas presents and homophobic songs from the 1980s. We did manage to cover various death-defying tour experiences, wax lyrical about how much we both love Sniff, and Tommy tells us all about that last-minute Pizzatramp set at Manchester Punk Festival. Tommy supplied the olives. Sarah vaguely tried to keep things on track. Daisy, the cat, offered a series of distractions. The closing track is 'Taxman' by Bruise Control. This is a bumper episode to celebrate Manchester Punk Festival 2022 in pseudo-review format. Sarah got together with Kaz & Big Hands to talk about all the highs and lows of MPF 2022. All three work behind the scenes at Manchester Punk Fest, so they've got a slightly different take on the event. They squeezed in a lot of bands alongside a lot of work, and they had a bloody wonderful time. Kaz is in Follow Your Dreams, who played two sets on Saturday, and Chris 'Big Hands' Hinsley is in Knife Club, and previously Revenge of The Psychotronic Man. They're an important part of the TNS family and the MPF team - two wonderful people who work pretty tirelessly for the world of DIY punk rock. They reminisced about all the bands we fell in love with, including the likes of Nosebleed, Snatch Game, Random Hand, Electric Press, Fatalist, Going Off, Forever Unclean, NEXO, Sewer Cats, Smoking Gives You Big Tits, Corrupt Vision, PMX and literally heaps more. We also discussed towels. It's a tad late because Sarah caught a horrendous MPF flu and has only been physically capable of movement or thought in the last week or so. Hopefully, everyone else fared better! Check out our full write-up of MPF2022: shout-louder.com/mpf2022

What better way to get geared up for Manchester Punk Festival than a conversation with one of the organisers? Kieran Kelly has been putting on gigs for over 15 years. He's one of the most established Manchester promoters who's still within the DIY scene, promoting under the name Moving North. He's also in the band Throwing Stuff, however, I don't think we talked about that at all! Kieran's known as one third of the Manchester Punk Fest team, which he puts on alongside Anarchistic Undertones and TNSrecords. Now in its sixth year, MPF has evolved and grown since its inception in 2015. Kieran gives his top tips for enjoying the festival to the fullest, describes some of the stresses of organising such a large event, and talks about the DIY ethos at its core. Although this is an unofficial MPF2022 special, we talk about a lot besides the festival. Kieran tells us about some of the best gigs he's put on, as well as some of the most calamitous. We discussed the economy of punk rock gigs and tours, why he's dedicated so many years of his life to promoting gigs, and some of his dream bookings. Keep an eye on all of Kieran's gig booking over at movingnorth.bigcartel.com You can find all things MPF at manchesterpunkfestival.co.uk Manchester Punk Fest takes place on April 16th-18th. It's sold out, but there are some resale tickets available via Twickets. Episode 35 sees Liam up in Manchester talking to one of the co-organisers and founders of Manchester Punk Festival (MPF), Andy Davies.   Some of you might know Andy from his time with the UK Punk outfit Revenge Of The Psychotronic Man (Which we do talk about), or some of you might know him as one half of the team behind TNSRecoreds (We also talk about that as well) But predominantly this is a chat about MPF.   So, what do we talk about?  Well, we talk about the art of selling tickets, taking criticism on social media and learning from past mistakes, as well as sticking to your 'Punk Ethics'.   I ask Andy about his thoughts on his punk rock festival competitors, Rebellion and Slam Dunk, and Andy explains how if it weren't for Strummer Camp there wouldn't be an MPF!   We talk about Dead To Me having to pull out of this year's festival as well as the introduction and the continuing roll out of comedy at MPF, and of course, we talk about Punks In Pubs and other podcasts finding its place at this year's festival. Plus much more.   All the music played in this episode are from bands playing this year MPF, and they went as such, The mighty Snuff kicked us off and then that's followed by a band called Folks Worst Nightmare, Then it's was King Prawn, Throwing Stuff, Dog Hand String Band and Authority Zero end the interview,  If you want to hear more from the bands playing at this years MPF head over to MPF Bandcamp webpage.   You can pick up your tickets for MPF by heading manchesterpunkfestival.co.uk and pick up some tickets and then you can pop along and watch me up on stage at The Font! That's right, Punks in Pubs will be performing its first ever live show at The Manchester Punk Festival this Easter Weekend (Friday, April 19 till Sunday 21st)   Conducting two interviews at The Font on the Saturday of the festival weekend (First show at 1:30 pm with guest TBA then back at 3:20 pm talking to Joe Tilston).   As always, your band play out the podcast, and this week’s band are coming at you from Liverpool and there called Seas of Neptune. Episode 25 sees Liam at the Signature Brew Brewery in east London talking to one of the founders, Sam McGregor (the other being Tom Bott). So why talk to Signature Brew? Well, not only is Signature Brew run by a team of punk and ska loving people, the company has a ‘punk’ ethos at its core (you will hear more about that in our chat). The brewery has also played its part in supplying and creating beers for some of the biggest and best punk festivals up and down the UK like; SlamDunk, Manchester Punk Festival, Arc Tan Gent and 2000 Trees. But it’s probably best known for creating collaboration beers with artists like Frank Turner, The Skints, The Hold Steady, Slaves,  Millencolin, Mastodon, Heck and Enter Shikari (just to name a few). Liam and Sam of course talk beer (you will quickly discover that Liam knows to fuck all about beer and that Sam knows a lot!). They discuss warm breakfast beers at festivals, the craft beer company that divides opinions - BrewDog and Sam explain how the US beer, Sierra Nevada, was a beer game changer. It's not all about the beer; Sam’s other love is punk and ska music. Sam happens to have played trumpet in a few ska bands in his past and makes a link between the two industries (music and beer).    Lastly, Liam and Sam talk about the punk bands that Signature Brew have already worked with, how much input these bands have in the creation of their beer (gravy beer anyone?) and Sam discusses artists he would like to work with in 2019. Looking forward to 2019, Signature Brew is looking to move to a new state-of-the-art brewhouse so they can treble capacity as well as open two new taprooms to showcase their beers and put on live gigs. To do this they need money and have therefore set up a crowd cube page where you, the listener, can invest as little as £10 or up to £25,000,000 into Signature Brew’s long-term venture. If this is something you would like to know more about then clink the link or go to www.signaturebrew.co.uk for more information on how you can invest in the future of Signature Brew. This week’s band hail from San Diego, California. They’re called ‘Watashi Wa Dance Party’ and their track 'Really Over' from their new E.P. Skate Pop Suicide plays out the show. Please support the podcast and go rate and review on iTunes, Spotify or whatever podcast streaming service you use. Follow the podcast on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter using the handle @punksinpubs. Lastly, the power of word of mouth helps this podcast grow so spread the word. Until next time…

As DIY giants Manchester Punk Festival have just announced the first installment of their 2019 line-up, we thought it was time for Ian 'Tree' Robinson to join us on the podcast. Tree's a staple of the Northern punk scene, known for booking regular gigs through the Anarchistic Undertones collective and tours via AU Tour Booking. He's got years of experience in DIY bookings, plus a Northern attitude that makes him quite an entertaining guest. We discuss Manchester Punk Festival's changes, what he's learned from 10 years of booking punk shows and some of our current favourite bands and labels. We also talk about Propagandhi. A lot. P.S. The star of tonight's show is our cover model, Bernie, who you can follow on Instagram @dci_burnside. These are the tunes we played: - Main Line 10 - Attitudes - Incisions - War In Your Head - Misantropic - Man Into Beast - Misgivings - Call It Off - Fair Do's - Candleman For more info head to www.shout-louder.com

As the guitarist in both TNS folk-punk favourites Matilda's Scoundrels and new sludge punk band Haest, as well as one of the organisers of Wotsit Called Festival, Dan Flanagan is one of the most active members of our current UK DIY punk scene. I've been meaning to catch Dan to record a podcast since we first got started, but we finally managed to make time while both in Slovenia at Punk Rock Holiday! Where better to record than on an deserted beach in blazing sunshine, with our feet dipped in the crystal clear river, surrounded by stunning mountains? Although the scenery is idyllic, you can definitely hear our hangovers in the first section of the podcast, and I struggled a bit with my battered vocal chords. Fortunately, Dan's capable of stringing a sentence together, and we get onto a proper discussion of festival antics. We talk about the joys of Punk Rock Holiday (including Mad Caddies, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Comeback Kid and Almeida), as well as Manchester Punk Festival, Pie Race, Wotsit Called Fest and all kinda of other shenanigans. We begin by saying we're not doing to bad on the hangover front, but you can definitely hear the wear and tear in my battered vocal chords and the difficulty in stringing sentences together. You can hear us verbally wake up about 20 minutes in! These are the tunes we played: - Matilda's Scoundrels - Mr Martyn - Haest - I Didn't Throw A Single Stone And Still I Got Pissed On - Bootscraper - The Family For more information, visit www.shout-louder.com.

Holly from Kiss Me, Killer joins Mark and Sarah for a bonus episode, talking about our highlights of Manchester Punk Festival 2018, recorded at 11am the day after the festival. Things Sarah learned while recording this podcast: - Holly Searle from Kiss Me, Killer is an incredible guest - Podcasting drunk is a lot funnier when the two people with you aren't sober - Never suggest recording a podcast at 11am on the morning after a 3-day punk festival - Never trust your friends to stop you from doing something stupid We talk about our favourite parts of Manchester Punk Festival, including some tunes from Waterweed, Natterers, Ducking Punches and Kiss Me, Killer. We also speak to In Evil Hour, Captain Trips, Aerial Salad and Jochen from Charlie's Big Raygun Records. Other highlights include Propagandhi, Milloy, Beat The Red Light, PMX and a really, really bad joke about the singer from Captain Trips, who wears sandals everywhere. Holly also tells us about Hell Hath No Fury Fest - a women-centric punk event she's hosting in Bristol over the late May bank holiday weekend - Kiss Me, Killer and the struggles of being a woman in the punk scene.
