https://www.markarose.substack.com/I am Mark Rose activist, in 2009 I helped shaped what would become the Cannabis Industry in Colorado, by opening one of the first medical cannabis dispensaries, also testifying on behalf of patient rights at the State Capitol and working directly with State lawmakers. I have been interviewed in High Times, Rolling Stone, Denver Post, WSJ, & New York Times. I was involved with the distribution of Cannabis since I was a kid and continued that in a big way after I moved to Colorado, I realized the hypocrisy of cannabis laws and worked hard to change them. I am now in the process of starting a new company.I have gone through Ketamine therapy which has changed my life for the better. I have suffered from severe PTSD, and Bipolar since I was a child and traditional medicines never worked. While with just 6 shots of Ketamine, my symptoms were improved to a point of being almost gone. My first LSD experience was in 1972 and ever since I wanted others to be able to experience what I had. I have been through the opioid epidemic; after I fell 150 ft., and was one of the first patients given oxycontin and luckily survived that addiction so many do not, psychedelics helped me break those chains. Just like when I spoke about Cannabis at the State Capital in Colorado or in the press back in 2009 when we were fighting for our rights to use Cannabis- it's the same with Psychedelics: I speak from experience and my heart, people need to know it is safe and effective and I aim to make that happen. I was also involved in the movement to shut down Rocky Flats who made plutonium triggers for the nuclear weapons industry in Colorado in the early 80s.I have worked in Healthcare;Cardiopulmonary, EMT-I, registered polysomnography Technologist in the very early days of sleep medicine. I have also owned several businesses. I also was a delegate for Bernie Sanders in 2016. I grew up in the rust belt town of Toledo Ohio, I left in 1978 to join the United States Air Force's MedicalSquadron, I then came to Boulder Colorado, lived mostly in or near my beloved Nederland Colorado. I also spent some time in Bellingham, Washington & Yellowstone. I have been to Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, Germany, Holland, Tajikistan, and fished just over the border in Northern Afghanistan. Active every election because I feel it is my civic duty.Currently I am looking into starting a business that involves Iboga therapy. I am currently employed at JM Smuc I became disabled from a severe inflammatory reaction from the Moderna vaccine that damaged my AV node, but my health is improving everyday.

The “Pittsburgh Renaissance,” an urban renewal effort launched in the late 1940s, transformed the smoky rust belt city's downtown. Pittsburgh's Renaissance's apparent success quickly became a model for several struggling industrial cities, including St. Louis, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, and Philadelphia. In A Good Place to Do Business: The Politics of Downtown Renewal Since 1945 (Temple UP, 2022), Roger Biles and Mark Rose chronicle these urban “makeovers” which promised increased tourism and fashionable shopping as well as the development of sports stadiums, convention centers, downtown parks, and more. Working-class residents and people of color saw their neighborhoods cleared and replaced with upscale, white residents and with large corporations housed in massive skyscrapers. They examine the politics of these government-funded redevelopment programs and show how city politics (and policymakers) often dictated the level of success. As city officials and business elites determined to reorganize their downtowns, a deeply racialized politics sacrificed neighborhoods and the livelihoods of those pushed out. Yet, as A Good Place to Do Business demonstrates, more often than not, costly efforts to bring about the hoped-for improvements failed to revitalize those cities, or even their downtowns. Comment le parc de Yosemite, dévasté par les flammes en 2022, peut-il être préparé pour les années à venir ? Since World War II the old industrial cities of the northeast and Midwest USA have repeatedly sought to end periods of decline by seeking to renew their downtowns. Convention centers, sports stadiums, hospitals, and tourist-oriented investment have all been deployed in an effort to restore a tax base and reinvigorate urban areas. Just as repeatedly the efforts have failed to bring benefits to the residents of these cities, especially African Americans. Mark Rose, Professor of History at Florida Atlantic University, talks with Roger Horowitz about these dynamics, drawing on his recent book A Good Place to Do Business: The Politics of Downtown Renewal Since 1945 co-authored Roger Biles. Their book chronicles efforts to reinvigorate the downtowns of major American cities in order to reverse the process of urban decline focusing on St. Louis, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago and Cleveland. As city officials and business elites determined to reorganize their downtowns, deeply racialized politics sacrificed neighborhoods and the livelihoods of those pushed out. Yet, as Professor Rose explains, often than not costly efforts to bring about the hoped-for improvements failed to revitalize those cities, or even their downtowns. It is a telling story, one with relevance for those living and working in Northern Delaware. Want Richard Patrick of Filter to write a song for your daughter's Bat Mitzvah? Go to Downwrite. Want Bob Nanna of Braid/Hey Mercedes to write a song for your indie film? Go to Downwrite. I love the concept, and we go deep into it. Kyle Schrage is the “beard” of “Beard and Belly,” located at 6157 N. Broadway. He walks us through the menu (everything made in-house) and shares items like the pastrami Reuben (OMG), Spicy Pickled Eggs and the Short Rib poutine. We finish with cream pies, as you do. I caught up with Gareth Steel, vet and author of new book 'Never Work With Animals' which lifts the lid on what it's really like being a vet. We discuss why he wrote the book, some of the stories it contains and how the perception Vs reality of the job often differ when it comes to the general public. Not many know the fact that veterinary medicine has the highest rate of suicide of any profession as well as issues with mental health, burnout and a high departure rate. We discuss the complex factors that feed into this problem, as well as some of the difficult topics like the use of alternative therapies in pets, balancing economic concerns of pet owners and farmers with animal welfare and of course some of the entertaining and positive experiences of what it means to be a vet. A must listen episode for anyone who ever thought "Oh I'd love to have been a vet" or has children interested in joining the profession. Rowena is a companion animal behaviour and welfare scientist at the Royal Vet College. It's a podcast crossover episode this time as I meet with fellow podcaster Ryan Dalton, host of the excellent nature podcast 'Into the Wild' (https://intothewild.podbean.com/). I brought Ryan to a top secret location last Spring to find adders, Britain's only venomous reptile as he'd only recently seen his first one and wanted to see more. I visit this site each year and told him I'd guarantee him some adders to photograph and marvel at. Maybe even find a legendary black adder? We weren't only there for a snake hunt however. We wanted to explore and discuss a topic we'd chatted about several times before, our pet's impact on nature and wildlife. With me as a vet and Ryan as a 'doggy daycare' business owner but also both passionate conservationists, there is an uncomfortable conflict at times in advocating for pets V's nature. Many pet owners don't even realise the impact their pets are having. And with the colossal rise in pet ownership since the pandemic began, we ask whether our growing pet population is pushing sensitive wildlife and habitats closer and closer to the brink. A tricky topic, but important to educate and support pet owners to minimises the damage that can be done without even realising.Oh and make sure to listen to the end, something funny and adder-shaped happens!Sean's Wild Life podcast is produced by Sean McCormack, co-produced and edited by Thomas Ntinas.
