Mark Sieverkropp is todays guest joining us on the show, and is someone who now falls into a very select band of guests. This is the third time that he has appeared, after first back in 2014 with his business partner Scott Barlow on episode 37. If you go back and listen to episode 37, he spoke with passion and more than a touch of humour as to how they got the “Happen To Your Career” online business going. This was why he was still working in the corporate world in a job he hated whilst starting to make inroads into his new life. Well he did that, and when he appeared next he had another leg into the entrepreneurial world and was sharing with us all, the steps we can take, and skills we need to explode our network of friends, colleagues and clients sky-high and build our own business. As the saying goes “No Man is an island” and with the worldwide web literally falling over with potential prospects, money making opportunities and chances to strike up a conversation are needed more than ever, which is where his talent lie. Now with his new book "Find Your 20" focusing in on the 80/20 principle and how we can all find time, enjoyment and even more income in our business by being strategic and streamlined as he finally found where he really wants to be? Is this where he looks and thinks "wow, without all the other dots there is no way that i could have brought this to the world? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Mark Sieverkropp.

Today marks the 200th episode of the Happen to Your Career podcast. Can you believe it? (We hardly can!) Scott started the podcast 4 years ago, back when he was also working in a corporate job that he liked well enough...but wasn’t his dream. He had a WAY bigger vision for what he wanted to create in his life, and how he wanted to help people. So when you’ve heard him talk about how to transition and optimize your life from good to great on this podcast each week for the past four years(!), he’s not just spewing some BS he read that morning on a career site. He’s lived it. And, so have the people whose lives he’s touched. (Maybe you’re one of them?) Josh and I rounded up some of the people who have been an important part of HTYC back from the very beginning (people like Scott’s wife Alyssa, their kiddos MacKenzie, Camden, and Grayson, and HTYC co-founder Mark Sieverkropp). Then I grabbed some of the people whose lives have changed because of HTYC, including past coaching clients and team members like Erica, Mike, Tracey, Josh, Kirby, and Jacqui. I asked them each three simple questions: Where was your life before you encountered Scott? What impact did Scott and HTYC have on your life? What's different about your future because of HTYC? And their answers Blew. Us. All. Away. So Josh and I wanted to share them with you. If you’ve been curious about what it’s like to get to know Scott personally -- or to get to work with him -- this episode is a must listen.
Jobs are made, Jobs are given, But the best Jobs dont come easy. My guest on todays episode of the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who like a select band of guests have decided to return again and join up more dots. Yes, back on episode 37 of Join Up Dots, when the show was just a baby, and I was finding my feet, he came on the show with his business partner of the time Mark Sieverkropp. They were building the online career advice platform Happen To Your Career, and in that discussion spoke about the hustle, early mornings, and desire that it takes to bootstrap something and take it out to the world. Happen To Your Career, is a place that is built with the owners desire, and passions being its ideal avatar. You can see that the concept would have been something that our guest would have been looking for, so he created it himself. As he says “I have always had an unusual outlook on careers. My wife Alyssa, who I met in high school, knows this to be true. I have left what others considered “good jobs” turned down job offers other people would love and any time I have wanted to make more income have simply figured out a plan and acted upon it. I have to be doing something I am excited about to be happy. Having had 8 positions in the last 10 years (including successfully self employed) has caused me to have many experiences in a short period of time.” I have owned a successful business in contracting, led others as a people and human resources professional, coached business owners and leaders to success, and helped many people develop their careers along the way. I have worked a variety of industries including: manufacturing, retail, government, food, construction and more. Everywhere I went I saw people struggling to figure out what they want to do and how to get there.” So has he got there himself. Is the platform he created truly what he wants, or is it still work in development? Like most things created by a desire to help the world will it ever be truly realised? Well lets find, as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Scott Barlow. Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Scott such as: How he would love to spend sometime with Tony Hsieh, and is inspired by the big dreams and big actions that he demonstrates everyday. How difficult it is to start a business with your wife, even though you can pay them less than anyone else you could meet. Why the world is fascinated with the huge success of others and care little about the twenty years of struggle that have led to that point. And lastly…. How he recalls the struggles he had as a young man, that caused him to tackle them head-on to allow a starting point to his dreams.

Many people think that they want to start a business. It's been a dream in the back of their mind. They've fantasized about what it would be like and how they will be in control of their lives and not have a boss telling them what to do. They want to be in control of their own schedule and their own income. All of that sounds really great, but is starting a business something that would actually be good for you or is it just better as a dream? We've put together a set of questions to ask yourself about what you really want, so you can decide if you want to actually start a business. In today's podcast, 173 How to Know if You Should Start a Business, Mark Sieverkropp, a great friend of mine and of HTYC (Fun fact: Mark helped get my business off the ground), joins me in answering these questions. If you're leaning toward starting your own business now or have that in your plans in the future, make sure you take a listen to find out more to see if starting a business is right for you. Mark and I will guide you on how to answer: What do you really want out of starting a business? Are you more interested in actually starting the business or simply running or operating a business? Do you have anything right now that is actually stopping you from starting a business? Are you willing to go the long haul? Are you willing to commit to this for the long run? Check it out!
24 Faithful Podcast: in partnership with the TVShow Time app
24 Legacy: Manny and Evan Welcome to 24 Faithful, the unofficial podcast for Fox’s show 24. My name is Joshua Rivers and I am your host. In the last episode, Mark Sieverkropp and Bradley Adams joined me to discuss some things about the upcoming 24: Legacy season. We are less than a week from this airing, and we will be back next week to cover the first two episodes, so make sure to stay tuned and be ready to share your thoughts and reactions as well. In the last episode of the podcast, we also mentioned a new partner, TVShow Time from Whipclips. It’s an awesome app that does several things. First of all, you find the shows that you are currently watching, or even shows that you have already watched. You can mark the episodes and seasons that you have seen. Then you can also get involved in some discussions with others that love the show as well. They are starting to integrate certain podcasts into the app as well, and that’s where we come in! Be sure to check out the TVShow Time app and join the discussion there. You can go to 24faithful.com/tvshowtime. Another awesome part of this partnership is that Whipclips has connections to the TV show networks. As a result, they can get exclusive interviews with the showrunners and other crew members. Today we are sharing one such interview. They were able to interview Manny Coto and Evan Katz. They are both producers and writers for the show and share some personal insights about the show’s past and future.

Happy Three Years, HTYCers! Today, my good friend and one of HTYC’s biggest supporters (from DAY ONE!), Mark Sieverkropp, is here to help me shed some light on some of the questions that you have sent in over the years. If you’ve tried to convince yourself that: “There’s no way that I can make money doing what I’m passionate about…” or “There’s no way that I can find my dream career…a career that exists on my own terms…” or “There’s no way that I can build my own business on what i really want to do because I don’t have any experience…” I'm here to tell you that it is possible. If I can do it, YOU can do it, too. It can happen. You can make a living by doing what you’re passionate about. If you’re not sure about what that is yet, don’t worry. You will figure it out. The best part is that you don’t have to have it ALL figured out right away. If you've found yourself wondering how to make it happen for you and your career, take a listen as we tackle your biggest career questions. Listen to the 145th episode: Making It Happen: Three Years & Counting!

As we have been examining several aspects of blogging, we have generally been assuming that you are blogging alone. This is probably the most common scenario that you will find yourself in. Sometimes, though, you may find yourself working with someone else. One case would be with guest posting. Another situation may involve a multi-author project, such as was the case with Jim Woods and Erik J. Fisher. I was able to talk to them about their process of working together on a writing project (writing two books together) back in Semester 1, Session 17. They shared some great insight and things to consider when approaching a partnership like that. Now, their project didn’t really involve blogging, although Jim did blog about several of the concepts while they were in the writing process. Many of the principles, though, can apply to a blog-based project with multiple authors. Multi-author sites There are many sites that utilize multiple authors. Much like an online newspaper or magazine, these authors contribute articles (blog posts) on a regular basis. There is usually some sort of schedule where each one will post a certain times. This can be a great option for some people. You could draw from many different sources and points of view. You can also provide a higher volume of high-quality content by having daily postings (or several times a day). This can provide a great increase in website traffic and, as a result, higher chance of monetizing through the site. Some draw backs could be that individuals get lost behind the overall brand of the site. I can’t speak for everyone, but I can see the author getting overlooked because the reader is just concentrating on the actual content itself. Multi-author collaboration Another format is where multiple people collaborate together to provide a single piece of content, much like Jim and Erik did with their books. There can be an even greater chance of the individual getting lost behind the brand, but there can be some great benefits, too. I started such a project. It started back in May/June of 2013. That is when it was announced that a new season of “24” would be coming the following year. I had been podcasting for a few months at that time, so the thought of starting a podcast based on the show came to mind. I didn’t want to do the show myself, so I looked for a possible co-host. I remember my friend, Mark Sieverkropp, mentioning once that he loved the show, so I asked him if he’d be interested in joining me. After a couple e-mail exchanges, he agreed. We spent June and July watching the news and planning how we would approach it. We decided that we would try to cover each of the previous seasons before the new season started. We launched the podcast (The 24 Podcast) in August, giving us about 9 months to cover the 8 seasons of the show. It was an intense 9 months because we were trying to re-watch as much of the show as possible. What we couldn’t watch, we looked for summaries to jog our memories. We were also able to get two other guys to come on as guest hosts periodically. As the new season started, we would watch the episode that Monday (or Tuesday morning online). We would then record and episode on Tuesday or Wednesday, giving our commentary on it. We got a lot of great feedback and interaction from people on Twitter. Then, the season came to an end. We were faced with a decision: what do we do now? We didn't know if another season would come or not and we had already recapped the entire series. One thing we had done throughout the podcast was give our predictions and story ideas. Some of them panned out, and others flopped. But that gave me the idea to try writing our own story line. A fan-fiction project. This idea was also mentioned by Jim Woods, who had no idea I was already thinking about it. At the time, I had no idea what it would really look like or what it w...

He provides help with eLearning (as well as video production and web design) at True Focus Media. You can also connect with him on Twitter. What is eLearning and training? It's not new - it's as old as the internet. It includes engaging videos and flexible websites. Many companies haven't even thought of this possibility! Instead of having a trainer come in or having the HR manager do the training, eLearning can benefit companies. Mark Sieverkropp is a good friend of mine. We’ve been interacting on Twitter and social media. We’ve had a blast getting to know each other. One of the things I really like about Mark is his ability for networking and follow up with people, and being proactive about his follow up strategies. I think a lot of people miss the mark in their networking or when they are meeting other people because they don’t do appropriate follow up. Mark is going to talk to us through some good ways that we can put networking and follow up into our procedures and make sure we are building on those connections we’ve made either through social media, the people we meet at networking events, or out and about. It’s a great interview, enjoy! Mark Sieverkropp is a Podcaster, blogger, author, entrepreneur, connector, leader, consultant and speaker. He is the author of Project: Success, which climbed to #3 in the Self-Help category in the Amazon Kindle Store. He is also co-host of the Happen To Your Career Podcast, which was a New & Noteworthy Podcast in the Career section of iTunes. Mark is passionate about connecting with others, finding ways to add value to them and helping other people do the same.
Mark Sieverkropp has been a friend and co-host on another podcast. He started off blogging a few years ago, with topics such as soccer, leadership, and now more on networking. He has also written the e-book, "Project:Success." He has also been the co-host of the Happen to Your Career podcast, which including doing some video as well. You can connect with him on his website or on Twitter. How does Mark keep his determination and dedication while pursuing his dream and creating content? One thing that is nice, is that you can do it whenever you want. Mark likes to do it early in the morning before starting his regular job. Find and work with people that help fuel your passion. There are so many people that are creating content, that it's easier to find people that are passionate about the same things you are passionate about. Mark shares some things about his e-book, "Project: Success" Defining things as a project helps by having a deadline. It also helps by changing your view of it, and failure doesn't seem so bad. For example, instead of starting a podcast with no end in sight, determine to go 15 episodes and go from there. Mark's book was an inspiration for this site and podcast, in that I started calling this a project. Most of our problems are mental. Realize that things have a beginning. And they have an end. It helps you to get past the mental road blocks. Successes and Benefits from Mark's perspective Mark lives in a small town, but he's been able to meet and develop relationships with people all over the country and world. These would never have been possible without creating content online. Blogging has helped Mark to focus and crystalize his thoughts. He can now write much easier and faster. Blogging has also helped him to prepare for speeches and oral communication. He's always wanted to be involved in business training, and online content creation has helped him to open doors in that area. What are some of the struggles and failures that Mark has had? Creating content online has both positives and negatives. If you're not intentional, it's easy to lose your motivation or do it alone. It's easy to focus on yourself and your own passions. You need to focus on your audience! Thinking that it's different than "regular" life. It's all still about relationships and developing them. How do you find out what your audience wants? After a while, Mark and Scott (Happen to Your Career podcast) reached out to the audience and asked them for feedback. Final words of wisdom from Mark Just get started. Start small, and learn from there. Share your takeaways below! The post Mark Sieverkropp Shares the Benefits and Struggles of Content Creation (1-3) appeared first on Creative Studio Academy.
Mark is an author, speaker and intentional networker. I met Mark via an email introduction and he shares his method for follow up with new acquaintances and his method for networking.
Our guests today are the powerhouses behind my favourite podcast Happen To Your Career. However in this case, the podcast is just a small part of what is a passion filled centre of resource for all of us who are looking for a change in our career. They quite simply believe that it is our their unique path in life to ensure that we all fill our days with work that delights us. So how have they done this? Well of course, they have a passion for the task, and they also have been in jobs and positions that have filled them with dread. Coming home exhausted, hating their bosses and seeing very little of their families they knew that they had to do something. And we are glad that they have because without guys like this in the world, providing support and encouragement, helping with decisions so many of us would be in similar daily situations. So lets bring onto the show to start joining up the dots of their lives, Mr Scott Barlow and Mr Mark Sieverkropp.

I had a question submitted by The Iron Jen: "What drives him each day to be his best and how does he get through tough times?" From 48 Days: You talk about the fact that God has uniquely gifted you in: 1. Skills and abilities 2. Personality traits 3. Values, dreams, and passions The difference between vocation, career, and a job Having a balance in all areas (7 parts of the Wheel of Life) Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs vs. Dan's Hierarchy of World-changers Dan, your podcast has made a huge difference in my life over the past year and a half! My question is, I'm trying to work on thinking more creatively. What activities or exercises do you use to develop and maintain the ability to think creatively? – Mark Sieverkropp "Wisdom Meets Passion" book : WOW! Brilliant concept, Excellent execution, & Super insightful. Thank you and Jared for this book! What advice do you have for fathers who desire this kind of relationship with their future adult sons? How do fathers nurture and encourage individualism, freedom, and confidence as their children develop? – Jeremy Carver
Today, I have Mark Sieverkropp with me. The conversation was pre-recorded, and there was some background noise and a couple times of poor connection. Regardless of a couple minor issues, it was a great conversation about the importance of purpose. Below are some of the things we talked about. You'll need to listen to get the full content. Quote by John Maxwell in “The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth”: People say there are two great days in a person’s life: the day you were born and the day you discover why. I want to encourage you to seek what you were put on this earth to do. Then pursue it with all your effort. Purpose answers the question "Why?" Purpose gives us reason. Your purpose needs to be bigger than yourself. Joshua's purpose was bigger than himself God has a purpose and plan for each of us If we don't fulfill our purpose, God finds someone else (Esther 4:14) Next episode, we will have a great interview with John G. Miller - the QBQ Guy! He has a new book out called "Parenting the QBQ Way" and we'll be discussing some of the principles from it. Please be sure to share this with your social circles and tell your friends and family. If you have any questions or comments, please leave on the blog.
