Why do you want a podcast? I'm pretty sure you don't want a podcast just to have a podcast. You want influence and authority. You want significance. SIGNIFICANCE AND COMPANIONSHIP It's not about what you're saying. It is about who you're being when you're saying it. Your significance comes from who you are, not what you say. Your listeners come for your content, but stay for you. When I coach clients, they often find it difficult to step into who they really are. They don't think people want to hear about their life or story. But, that's the furthest from the truth. People listen to you for companionship. Companionship is the primary reason people listen to audio. They don't want to be alone. People don't want to exercise alone, so they have their earbuds in. They don't want to drive alone, so they have audio on. Your fans don't want to be alone on a run, so they are listening to your podcast. You're keeping them company. MORE OF YOU On a coaching call the other day, my client said his former coach told him to cut out all of the personal stuff. Nobody wants to hear it. That advice couldn't be further from the truth. And it's detrimental to your podcast. Are your downloads struggling? There isn't enough of you. Your podcast cannot survive on content alone. Artificial intelligence can copy your information. It can probably generate your six steps to success faster than you can. I don't need to sit through 30 minute of your podcast. AI can't copy you and your story. Share yourself with your fans and stand out. Your fans want more of you. That little voice in your head is telling you that people may not like what you share. They may not like the real you. And that's ok. NOT FOR EVERYONE The biggest personalities are polarizing. But they didn't start that way. Oprah started as a typical news anchor. She went on to host a daytime television show that was just like her competitors Phil Donahue, Sally Jessy Raphael and the others. When Oprah finally decided to be herself, share her struggles and do it her way, her star shot to the top. However, she wasn't for everyone. But her superfans loved her. She had incredible significance that lives on today. Howard Stern started in radio doing the same schtick every other DJ was doing. He struggled to find success. One day Stern decided to do it his way and be himself. He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Even his program director was trying to hold him back. But, his fan base started to grow quickly. People loved him. And people hated him. He surely isn't for everyone. But the people who love him really love him. He became the biggest star on the radio, because he shared himself. His became of person of significance. SIGNIFICANCE BY SELECTION You don't need to share everything about yourself to grow your significance. It requires sharing the right things. The fans get to know you by the stories you share with them. Share the stories that build your brand. Once you've determined your ideal target listener, you know exactly what means the most to them. This is where your significance originates. Speak into their lives by sharing parts of your life with them. There are seven elements of powerful, magnetic personalities. This is how to start your journey to significance. I teach you how to elevate your significance and become a magnetic personality who attracts clients to you rather than chasing them inside of the Podcast Profits Accelerator community. This is powerful group that will help you build and implement your podcast monetization strategy. It all begins by becoming a magnetic personality. You can get full details at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/accelerator. A CHARACTER First, you need a character. That is you. Have the courage to step into who you are. You are the leader of your tribe. People want what you have. Believe in yourself. Ignore the people who aren't following you. They won't become your fans anyway. People who don't love you won't buy your products, consume your content. On the other hand, your fans will love you when you lead. ORIGIN STORY Next, you need an origin story. How did you develop your superpower? You need to be able to tell this story in ten minutes and also in 90 seconds. Your origin story is how your significance came to be. It's a critical part of your journey. This is the first step in getting people to love who you are. Share your struggles, discoveries, and successes. Gary Vaynerchuk has his origin story of how his father immigrated here from Belarus and started a liquor store. Steve Jobs had his origin story of being adopted and starting his computer company in the garage with his buddy Steve Wozniak. TRANSFORMATION The third element is the transformation. This is the moment you discovered your superpower. Think of it in terms of, "And then one day..." When was the moment you discovered this was your purpose in life? Jeff Walker of Product Launch Formula had his transformation when he did his first launch of his newsletter to 19 people. Howard Stern has his "oh wow" moment when he was frustrated and just shared his life on air one day. People started calling, and he knew he was on to something special. PRINCIPLES From your origin story, you next need to develop your foundational principles. These are the things that lay the foundation for what you do. What are the principles you won't break? Russel Brunson of ClickFunnels believes you're only one funnel away from breaking through. Dave Ramsey is against credit cards. STORIES Next, you need stories that wrap around and demonstrate your principles. Think of these like the parables in the Bible. People learn through story. There are a few stories from your journey that solidify your principles. Share these stories often. These could be small pieces of your origin story. Russel Brunson has his potato gun story. Alex Hormozi has the story of sleeping on the floor just to make it work. LINGO Personalities with significance have a certain lingo that superfans use. This is a little insider language. What phrases do you use often? Find half a dozen sayings that are common in your talks and use them often. Gary Vaynerchuk talk about arbitrage and hustle. Dave Ramsey uses “live like no one else so later you can live like no one else”. WORD OF MOUTH The final element is word of mouth. You need a handful of superfans who will spread your praises everywhere they can. Celebrate these people on your show. Get them to tell as many people as possible. Empower your superfans. Rush Limbaugh had dittoheads. Alex Hormozi has MoziNation. SIGNIFICANCE When you have accomplished all seven traits of magnetic personalities, you'll see your significance grow. Would you like my help implementing this into your show and business? Are you struggling to get noticed and grow your influence? Come join us in the Podcast Profits Accelerator. This is powerful group that will help you build and implement your podcast monetization strategy. It all begins by becoming a magnetic personality. Let's talk launches - do you love them or hate them? Lots of business owners, coaches and course creators approach them with a mix of excitement (potential for great sales) and dread (it's a ton of work and what if it doesn't bring in the numbers we're hoping for?) Launches can feel quite overwhelming because there are typically a lot of moving parts to set up behind the scenes for something that runs for a short time. I wasn't a huge fan of big launches for my first few years in business because of that workload - we all know I like to keep things simple! But I also love a puzzle, and found launches really interesting when I watched my entrepreneurial friends do them! And they really can bring in an incredible amount of revenue, so I had a go, kept at it, and once I learned a few tricks to make launches simpler and more manageable, they became such a handy tool, not just for bringing in great money but for growing and scaling my business at the same time. Launches for my passive products are the reason I can keep my client numbers low and enjoy working just a couple of hours a day instead of full time, and I think once you find the version of launching that works best for you, you'll love having that extra time and financial abundance in your business too! --- Mentioned in this episode: Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula free masterclass *I'm an affiliate for Jeff, and receive a commission if you join one of his paid programs via my link Leadpages (affiliate link) ThriveCart (affiliate link) ConvertKit (affiliate link) --- Come chat with me on Instagram! --- Ready to simplify your business? I remember months ago that my whole mission in India was going to fail. Devastating moments altered with great moments of contemplation on the Lord...My strategy was as a Bioenergetic/ EFT therapist just to feel and go in that terrible loss of failing... Brutally face it... Then I post it on Facebook, and my friends like Deborah Patel send me light….Because I didn't want to hang on failing and so to attract again and again failing, get rid of it as fast as possible!!!As a spiritual being, I wanted to surrender to God... So I did. In India, I lived in holy places, Auroville and Tiruvannamalai. On the holy Arunachala (Tiruvannamalai) hill I got the idea to write an additional Book…about Meditation… and then one book for Health... Both books are already published. When I came back, I attracted the best Internet Marketing Products: Product Launch Formula with Jeff Walker… He said: Give yourself the permission to fail! We need to win the game, but not every combat! Then the Udemy Facebook Ads marketing course from Jerry Banfield, he said: One of the best strategies is to make a Facebook group… Yes, failing is great and the best thing that can happen to you! In this episode, Michael discusses different aspects of product development, product launch, and post-launch where materials engineering will improve product success. Developing and launching a product can be stressful – there are many decisions, problems to overcome, and risks to mitigate. While we'd like the process to go smoothly and be able to calmly meet deadlines, this usually is not the case – things we didn't consider pop up or things that shouldn't have been a problem become a problem. Many of the decisions, problems, and risks are associated with the materials used in a product. After all, a product is ultimately an assembly of materials that have been shaped, manipulated, and modified. So, making the effort to engineer the materials will have an impact on product cost, performance, and reliability, and on manufacturing throughput and quality. In Part 2 of our conversation with Jeff Walker, we discuss what it means to be a brand with longevity in a competitive online market…and the best and worst business advice he has ever received. Jeff Walker is the original online marketing business Coach, a podcaster, and the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller LAUNCH. He has been coaching people how to launch online courses, products, services, and brands online for over 30 years. Jeff started his first online business in 1996 from his child's nursery. His "Product Launch Formula” transformed the online marketing world from the day it was released in 2005 and Jeff–and PLF–have never slowed down. Now, years later, the Product Launch Formula brand is the gold standard in the online entrepreneurial training market. Jeff's students and clients have done over a billion dollars in launches in hundreds of niches and markets and dozens of countries around the world! Whether you are a new entrepreneur or you've been in business for years, it's time to launch (or re-launch) your business. A flexible mindset leads the industry Jeff has been creating online courses for decades. But he'll tell you himself – flexibility is even more important than experience. While Jeff and his team thought they had perfected the art of selling courses and launching programs, they noticed a significant decrease in sales and attendance at live broadcast events in the past few years. The online market is competitive, it's saturated, and it almost seems impossible sometimes. But instead of giving up or getting frustrated, they remained flexible. They asked themselves an important question – what would make it easier for consumers to get what they need, and how should the content be delivered? They decided to experiment. Instead of requiring participants to attend a live broadcast, they released the content in “seasons” or “limited releases,” just like Netflix. They batched the content and sent it out with hype each time new “episodes” were released, and saw an immediate uptick in watches. This experimentation was essential to the success of their company, and it was a reminder that innovation never stops. Sustaining a flexible and curious mindset leads the industry, no matter how much experience you have. The best (and worst) business advice In his three decades in online business, Jeff has heard great advice, and terrible advice. In this episode, he shares what he's learned and why it's important. Laughing, Jeff confesses that his business reached a million dollars in sales before he hired a single employee, and four million dollars in sales before he had a team of four. He had taken some bad business advice: Someone had told him that hiring was too complicated, and it made life too hard. Looking back, Jeff wishes that he had hired sooner because despite the complication, hiring made his life–and his business–function more smoothly than ever. In his early years as an entrepreneur, he observed a lot of marketers using formal and corporate speech when addressing their clients. People told him that he needed to craft a persona for his online business - but his intuition told him that it was a bad call. Even in his early emails in 1996, Jeff talked to his clients in his own voice as if he was their best friend. Now, it has paid off. His clients rave about his casual, friendly, and warm way of interacting with them. It is the reason Product Launch Formula has remained so successful. Jeff's lessons are a vital reminder to us that entrepreneurship is about trusting yourself, staying flexible, and taking measured risks. Enjoy Part 2 of this conversation with Jeff Walker… Quotes “I started this business from the baby's changing room. For the first eight years, there wasn't even a picture of me online. I never imagined that I'd be on camera, or doing live broadcasts.” “One of the things that is somewhat unique about our affiliate partners is that nearly all of them came up through our program first. They used Product Launch Formula to launch and grow their businesses and brands, and then they were excited to tell the world about it.” “Getting caught up in the process stuff…it literally made my stomach hurt. Mary took over that stuff. We were at a million dollars in sales before we hired anyone.” “One of the bad pieces of advice I heard from a ‘business guru' back in the day was to not hire anyone, and that it makes your life a living hell. It might make your life more complicated, but it does make your life better.” “I think I am an extraordinary leader for our clients, and in the industry…but leading the team has been a learning experience for me. It didn't come naturally and I wasn't good at it. But I've gotten a lot better!” “It was very clear even with the first few emails that I sent in 1996 that I needed to use my own voice. People were using a lot of corporate speak and it was so clear to me that that was a mistake. I think people like my warm, friendly conversational tone. I see that as a big piece of my personal brand.” “People know what to expect from me. I've been very consistent over time. We kept getting results for our clients, and people talk about you when you get results.” “Everything is changing, all the time. We just rolled out two new programs. For us, it's about getting better at serving the people we already have, and exploring small mastermind events.” Links mentioned in this episode: Check out Jeff Walker's website at https://jeffwalker.com/ Enter your best email address to get Launch Quickstart – Jeff Walker's FREE training for building a business you love: https://productlaunchformula.com/ Buy Jeff's #1 New York Times bestselling book, LAUNCH: https://jeffwalker.com/programs/book-launch/ “Is it possible to launch a ___?” Check out this page for amazing marketing case studies. Struggling to support his wife and feeling uninspired by his previous corporate resume, Jeff sought out to contribute financially by learning about the stock market. Spending nights researching stocks and trading, Jeff realized that he wanted to teach others how to make money doing it too. He began writing a modest email newsletter and sending it to his list…of 19 people. Regardless of the size of his email list, he invested his time and energy into making his newsletter the best it could be. Eventually, he realized he could charge for his knowledge, but he was nervous – what if people hated him for asking for money? In his desperation, Jeff showered his readers with more and more free resources and knowledge until he finally asked them to subscribe to a higher-value newsletter. It was his first launch, and he brought in $1,650. He was floored. The success of this first launch was enough to get him inspired, motivated, and fueled by the desire to do more. Every single launch he did after that grew exponentially – from $6k to $8k, then $5k and $34k – and ultimately to a $100k launch that helped him buy a home and prompted his wife to quit her job. Jeff's first launch may sound simple, but it is truly a success story. He never let a small email list or the lack of industry experience bring him down. He literally invented the product launch – simply by setting goals, and starting small! Believe in what is possible for you After he made $1,650 at his initial product launch, Jeff made an important discovery: An idea can become an income. We can see evidence of his discovery in everything we do as entrepreneurs, even decades later. While he had been building up his email list and making a small income, he had a backup plan to return to graduate school. But during his first class, he got up and walked out. Laughing, he reflects that it was out of character. “I'm not a dramatic type person,” he insists – but he realized that his path was clear. After leaving school for good, he intensely pursued online marketing with the goal to improve and learn from every launch. Even now, Jeff talks about his first launch with the fervor or someone who has landed on the moon. Despite 17 consecutive multi-million dollar launches, it was that $1,650 that changed the course of internet sales forever. Enjoy Part 1 of this conversation with Jeff Walker, and be sure to tune in next week for Part 2! Quotes “How do you sell something? I had no sales experience! I started researching it, and no one was teaching online marketing or online business at the time. I started studying the old masters of direct marketing going back to the 1920's.” “I had discomfort with sales. I thought…these people love me. But they're going to hate me if I try to sell them something. But we were desperate as a family for an income. So I thought, I am going to really romance these people! I am going to give them even more free stuff, and make it even cooler, and it will naturally lead into an upgraded paid newsletter that had more and was more frequent. It was the free-to-fee model, and it was 1996.” “I set goals in every area of my life – my parenting, my marriage, my adventure goals, my physical goals, and my income goals! The absolute biggest number I could imagine making was $100k. Three years later, I did it in a week. It was insane.” “I went to a marketing conference. I didn't know it was unusual, but I started talking about the launch. People were asking me how I did it. I started informally helping and coaching, not even charging. I didn't even know if it would work in any other businesses.” “I was still sitting in my office, writing newsletters about the stock market. But the floodgates were open. People were calling me, and my phone was ringing off the hook – they wanted help, and they wanted coaching.” “The internet was growing. It was crystal clear. The idea of selling stuff online was growing. I did not see multi-million dollar launches! But I saw a legitimate path of being able to help people and build a business slowly.” Links mentioned in this episode: Check out Jeff Walker's website at https://jeffwalker.com/ Enter your best email address to get Launch Quickstart – Jeff Walker's FREE training for building a business you love: https://productlaunchformula.com/ Buy Jeff's #1 New York Times bestselling book, LAUNCH: https://jeffwalker.com/programs/book-launch/ “Is it possible to launch a ___?” Check out this page for amazing marketing case studies. Co-hosts Chris Saunders and Jeff Walker talk about Jeff's journey into online entrepreneurship, how he got started before reaching fame with his Product Launch Formula, and what you can expect from the show. The two also discuss the concept of “Launch Life,” the very first thing Jeff sold online, what led him to Durango (Colorado), and what's key to building a thriving community. You'll also hear: What Tim Ferriss said about Jeff's book Launch on his podcast The one question you should ask to know if you're on the right track (asking this also keeps you from falling into the “hustle harder” trap) How Jeff's fear of selling led to him “accidentally” changing the way products are sold online What seven and eight-figure entrepreneurs really talk about behind closed doors at masterminds Why Jeff, Chris and the team are fanatical about tacos How Jeff succeeded in a credential-obsessed market... without having any certificates or qualifications ... and much more. I can think of no more valuable skill than the one that conveys the importance, uniqueness, value, and necessity of everything else you have to offer - Copywriting. Feel free to try and convince me otherwise...but guess what skill you'll need to do that? Copywriting is fundamental to any business because it's how you communicate who you are and why people need you. Any transaction begins with communication, and the quality of that communication dictates everything that comes after. This week's episode is about recognizing that EVERYTHING is copy - Not just sales pages and ads. Social media posts, emails, videos, podcasts...even conversations are copy. Use the techniques and triggers that have been used for millennia to improve ALL of your interactions. You'll also learn how you and I can be "study buddies", working through Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula together. I've bought PLF every year since 2005 because it works, and it gets better every iteration. We'll soon be launching the updated, AI version of Copywriting Academy using PLF blueprints. Listen to find out how you can get a behind-the-scenes look at our launch, step by step. Be intentional! Your website builds trust and drives conversions, and...it's copy. How do you differentiate yourself in a crowded market? And how do you ensure your potential customer understands who you are and what you stand for? For book coach Ann Sheybani, one of the best ways to tell your customers more about you (and get them to open their wallets to you) is in the pages of your own business book.
This week we review the fundamental differences between marketing and selling, and how to properly execute both. Plus, I introduce you to two of my students, Jason and Melanie Crane. We'll talk about their entrepreneurial journey as a husband and wife team, they're challenges, and how you can achieve success without sacrificing your marriage. I'll also tell you how you can learn the same fundamental sales system that we use for each and every product and service we sell (Product Launch Formula), absolutely free of charge. Key Insights Marketing and Selling are NOT the same thing Marketing is where you connect with your audience and let them buy in to your worldview, philosophies, and ideas - Marketing is preparing your audience to buy from you. The offer is critical. Get it right, or nothing else works. It must be made irresistible to the audience. Building a list through lead magnets and email marketing allows for sequential communication and increased chances of making a successful sales offer. Building a relationship with customers and being perceived as a helper, rather than someone trying to sell, can amplify your business and foster connections. Sacrificing personal relationships for the sake of success can lead to negative consequences and the breakdown of marriages. Creating or joining a Mastermind group can provide a supportive and motivating environment for personal and professional growth. Being part of a supportive community can be transformational in achieving your goals and overcoming challenges. Making the process of improving a marriage fun (even integrating dance in Jason and Melanie's case) can help engage both partners and create a positive experience. In this Episode of the Ray Edwards Show, I'm going to show you exactly how I'm using AI every week in my workflow. How I am using AI in my business to make more money with less work, and produce better copy (meaning copy that converts better). And how you can do the same thing. This episode is specifically made for business owners who want to write copy for their own business. Even if your business is a copywriting business – there is plenty of opportunity for all of us. These are the days of limitless opportunity. But you certainly don't have to be a copywriter-for-hire to use this same workflow. This will work for any online business, including personal brands, authors, speakers, coaches, and course creators. [00:00] My workflow for creating this podcast (and who this will work for) [03:13] Step 1 - Research the topic most on the minds of my viewers/listeners [04:17] Step 2 - Put my research into a working document [04:35] Step 3 - Write my "Human Generated" outline of the episode [05:10] Step 4 - Run my text through ClarityScribe [06:31] Step 5 - Read the A.I. generated text out loud (seriously...do this) [07:56] Step 6 - Record the video version for YouTube [10:03] Step 7 - Polish up the video (See link below for TimeBolt) [11:47] Step 8 - Run the audio through ClarityScribe's Podcast module [12:18] Step 9 - Put the video through Opus Video AI (link below) [12:55] Step 10 - Load Podcast post on YouTube, the blog, and socials [13:27] Step 11 - Launch The Video Links ClairtyScribe - The ultimate copywriting A.I. not only generates copy for my podcast, but also parses the finished audio to create show notes, a verbatim transcript, social posts, and emails. TimeBolt - This is what I use to "clean up" my videos. Removing any dead spaces, bad takes, and various stumbles. 4 Ways Health & Fitness Pros Can Create Income Right Now What if you have a dream of a health coaching or fitness training business but the reality is you need to create income right now? As in, today? What if… what if someone had a gun to your head or someone you love, would you find a way? Would you go ahead and take a risk and do it? I think we'd all say yes, of course, right? And we'd lose the concern or fear of what someone might think. We lose the pride that may keep you from asking for money. That by the way is tied to some sense of feeling like you're begging for money which of course is ridiculous if you have a serve that will help someone. The truth is there is no easier way to create income right now than in a service business. You don't have a “cost of goods” or at least it is very small. Unlike selling supplements or gym equipment or sweat towels, tights, or visors... You just have to create an offer and ask. So whether you're just getting started or you're already selling something, this is for you. Before You Can Create More Income One word first though. Get ready to make money. Be prepared to track your revenue, your expenses, and know what amount of this is profit. Know how much time you spend servicing for a specific amount of revenue. That will help you determine your profit margin. Because most trainers make the mistake of thinking that it's all profit since they are making it and taking it. They forget, their time is worth something. So if you're spending more hours than you realize, you'll want to stop that right away or as you expand you won't have anywhere to go! This entire episode revolves around you having an email list, ideally a segmented email list of buyers, and non-buyers, so you can choose to put an offer in front of people who are not currently in a program with you now. If you don't have an email list… you do. You have friends and family and colleagues. And that's no way to run a business but it is a way to start. Jeff Walker with his Product Launch Formula created a thriving business with this soft launch and so can you. You can start with it, that is. If you're serious about business, then get a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software and some support if you're not techie and get things hooked up to your website so when customers purchase they automatically get exactly what they should and never see what they shouldn't. If you don't yet have an email CRM I'll link to some prior episodes about growing your email list. 4 Ways Health & Fitness Pros Can Create Income Now 1. Make an offer right now: Stop Procrastinating In this example, you float out an email and say "Still interested?" Make a spontaneous offer that requires an urgent response. In my case, I did this because I realized I was creating an entire challenge for one of my private clients who needed to boost her metabolic flexibility. She was doing all the things and not losing weight. I realized it was a problem others in our community probably also had but weren't necessarily going to buy another program because they were potentially already doing HIIT, and Weight Training. But they would do this… a specific challenge designed to target the specific problem. I presented it as a “beta group” and said…” I know it's last minute but we're starting this Monday. So if you want in… I need you to let me know tomorrow. I'll send you the order form, then the pdf, and the WhatsApp group once you're enrolled.” Other times when this is a big offer, like a retreat and we're at $2000 or higher, it's beneficial to do an email to a phone call if you have time. I wouldn't have had time in this case and it's only a $500 product sent to about 25 people that know me well. Their risk was low - they already know and trust me - and most have been VIP clients with me in the past. 2. Make an upsell for anything you're already selling. This way you optimize the services you already have. Just like, “Do you want fries with that?” or hotel room service that asks, “Would you like a piece of chocolate lava cake with that?” The 20% of those customers who say yes, just increased their sales by 20%. You should do that all day long. Take the chocolate cake for an example though. They don't just ask: Do you want anything else with that? Do you want dessert with that? No, they get very specific and use descriptive words. So should you. Do you want the success coaching with that? Do you want the 20 One-Pan meal recipes with that? Do you want... 3. Take whatever you're already selling well and increase the rate. Based on consumer psychology, there's no difference between $49 and $59 or $69. Take a $69 product and make it $99. You can take a currently $99 and make it $129 or $139. The conversion rate doesn't change but the profit margin goes up. 4. Package all of These Income Generators together. Send an email today, suggesting a new group starting that's focused on a problem you know a lot of your community have, offer it at 20% higher rate than normal - it's specialized after all - (or suggest you are going to raise the rate after this beta group and they want to get in now to take advantage of it. Offer an upsell for more private time with you, or simply an add-on that you know they'll need to have to be successful. Think like ... You HAVE to. Sometimes you just have to imagine.. That you do in order to get out of your way and do what was always possible anyway. Your email list should provide you that kind of cushion. You have the ability to send an email and make money every single day. Are you using it? Which of these ways to create more income now will you use first? There are two thing you need to do to grow your audience. First, get in front of new people who don't know you, and invite them to your show. Then, keep your listeners coming back week after week. Before you get started building your audience, you need to understand why you want to grow in the first place. THE AUDIENCE MISTAKE The one thing I want you to remember today is content drives business with relationships and authority, not sponsorships. Bring your listeners into your business. Many people want to grow their audience, so they can sell sponsorships. That is the worst thing you can do. And, I'll show you why in just a bit. This is going to be powerful for you today. Make sure you have a pen and paper to take notes. Many times we get training like this, we go to free webinars, or we attend seminars and get a ton of information. We get all excited. Then we go home or return to our "to do" list and we do nothing with the training. We never put it into action. I want to give you this strategy, so you can implement what you learn. Does that sound good? Nothing happens until you take action. No more guessing. Just the steps you can follow to build powerful, profitable relationships with your audience. Could you use that? Great! Remember, you just need to take action! MONETIZATION Many people make monetization much harder than it needs to be. It wasn't always easy for me. Over the years, I distilled it down into a step-by-step process to grow my audience and leverage that attention to make money with my podcast. If I can do it, you can, too. Let me give you a quick example. Zoë Routh is one of Australia's leading experts on people stuff in leadership. She helps leaders and teams overcome silos and turf wars to work better together. She has worked with individuals and teams internationally and in Australia since 1987. From the wild rivers of northern Ontario to the remote regions of Australia, Zoë has spent the last thirty years showing teams struggling with office politics and silos how to work better together. Zoë uses her podcast to open doors to her ideal clients. Rather than asking them to lunch or making a cold sales call, she invites those she would like to work with to be a guest on her show. Zoë uses her interviews to begin the relationship and really give value to these CEOs before she even starts talking about doing business together. That is my favorite way to use a podcast to land clients. You don't need a huge audience. You just need the right audience. Can you see how this one example could make a big difference in your business? Interviewing prospects on your show and building those relationships could be just what you need to land your next client. AUDIENCE EXPLOSION That is one example of making money with your podcast by attracting your ideal clients. It is about relationships and rapport. My Audience Explosion Blueprint consists of 3 easy steps. Don't make if more complicated than it needs to be. Don't get swallowed up by the tech. Just follow a proven process. On this episode, we are going to focus on growing your audience. They say public speaking is the most common fear. I believe it is probably the fear of failure while public speaking that paralyzes most presenters. You know what I mean. Music has always been a passion for me. But, I was always introverted and never dreamed of being on the radio let alone interviewing big stars. Three years into getting my architecture degree, I realized my career ladder was leaning against the wrong wall. By chance, I got a job at a radio station where my brother worked. I was a broke college student and needed the money. While working there, my passion for creativity and entrepreneurship returned. RADIO In radio, we would gain the attention of our listeners and sell that attention to clients. It was all about ads. I had a passion for creating great radio. The formula for successful radio equals great music plus great morning shows plus great marketing. It is all about creating great content with entertaining personality and then marketing the crud out of it. I have now gone on to interview many big names. Like George Strait, Ice-T, Zac Brown, Lady Gaga, Lionel Richie and more. Over 25 years of coaching talent and building effective marketing campaigns to serve clients and attract listeners, I have learned the effective traits of powerful content and marketing. I had a passion for creativity and to share my message. But with the big business of radio, I couldn't own a radio station. I needed a way to take what I've mastered and turn it into a business of my own. That's when I discovered podcasting. THE GURUS I saw all of these experts sharing their information online. I was following them all. I bought Brendon Burchard's "Millionaire Messenger". I spent a couple thousand dollars for Jeff Walker's "Product Launch Formula". I spend money on Russel Brunson's ClickFunnels. It was a lot of good money going out without much to show for it. I was following all of the magic formulas, but wasn't making the millions. Can you relate to that? How much have you spent on programs that didn't work? They say, "Just send an e-mail to your list." What most of these don't tell you is that you need an audience in order to have a list. And you have to build a relationship with that list before you can leverage the attention. I knew I had the knowledge. I just needed the vehicle to share it to build the relationships. That's when I began using my 25 years of knowledge and experience building client relationships to build a brand with my podcast and growing relationships rather than selling attention. IMPOSTOR SYNDROME But, it was crazy. Impostor Syndrome kicked in. I started to doubt myself. With podcasting, the platform was in front of me and the creativity returned. But, I started questioning myself. I knew I just needed to step up and believe in myself. I saw all of these other experts doing it. What couldn't I? The opportunity to own a radio station was gone. But now there was an opportunity to build my brand and attract clients with podcasting. The thrill of having full control of my content and help people was right there. So, I started demonstrating my expertise and attracting clients I could help. Over the past 9 years, I've been shaping all I've learned in radio to help other coaches and podcasters discover their possibilities. I've been helping them transform their information into entertainment, so they can use their podcast to attract their ideal clients and grow their business. YOUR OPPORTUNITY Now you have the opportunity to use this same process. I got lucky and found success. I fell into radio and learned by the school of hard knocks. You can now easily get in and find success without all the pain. Now, I tell you this not to impress you. I tell you this to let you know that if I can conquer the Impostor Syndrome, you can, too. If this introverted kid from a lower-income neighborhood can create powerful content on successful radio stations and podcasts, and can use that content to attract and help clients, you can as well. The best part … it won't take you years of living on $12k, working three jobs, fighting off the IRS, working through trial and error and suffering all of the bruises I endured. You just need to follow a plan. Your podcast allows you a great opportunity to demonstrate your authority while talking about a topic that you love. How great is that? If you structure the focus of your podcast properly, it can be an amazing tool to drive your business and generate revenue by building rapport. Using what I learned attaining my Masters in Business Administration, I have spent the last 30 years in radio refining how to create effective marketing campaigns to attract listeners and clients alike. I have used those skills to teach podcasters how to do the same since 2013. Publishing a podcast is a powerful way to let your potential clients to get to know, like and trust you. Your content helps build your authority in your niche and turn you into an influencer. But, how do you get noticed? How can you stand out in that sea of sameness? THREE WAYS There are three ways to share your content … video, audio or text. You can publish your content using blogs, YouTube videos and podcasting. There is one way I feel is best, and you can probably guess which format that is. Are you leveraging your content to its fullest extent to drive your business? If not, why not? Today, there are about 600 million blogs in the world today (Growth Badger). When was the last time you read a blog on a regular basis? In the video space, you are competing with 51 million different YouTube channels. YouTube also keeps changing the alogarithm which makes it incredibly hard to get your videos to go viral. It is hard to stand out and get noticed. However, there are just over 3 million podcasts right now according to Listen Notes. Only about half of those are actively publishing. The platform is still young. The opportunity for you is huge. Where do you want to compete? Would you rather try to be seen as one in three million or one in 600 million? Do you see how the opportunity with a podcast is wide open? Do you want to deal with all of the tech issues that come with shooting video? The lighting, the wardrobe, the teleprompter? Or, would you rather just roll in, turn on the mic and record with a lot fewer issues with equipment, time and hair? PORTABLE There are two other reasons podcasting is a better than other platforms for your content. First, podcasting is portable. Your ideal clients can listen while driving, working out, showering, running and many other places where reading and watching video isn't feasible. The numbers are also in your favor. Now is that right time to leverage your podcast. 39% of America now consume podcasts at least every week according to Jacobs Media's Techsurvey 2021. More than 109 million people in the U.S. over the age of 12 have listened to podcasts in the last month according to Edison Research. According to the Nielsen Company, the total podcast audience is growing at an amazing rate. Podcasting has seen 40% growth Over the last 3 years. Podcasting is huge and now is the time to get in. There is a bright future ahead. Create your podcast, so your content is on a platform that is portable, growing and still young with plenty of opportunity. The space is wide open for you. Now that we know podcasting is amazing, Are you leveraging your podcast to its fullest potential to build your authority and grow your business? If not, why not? GROW YOUR AUDIENCE You can start today to grow your audience. And, you can then leverage that attention to make money with your show. There are 6 steps to grow your audience and leverage your podcast to make money with your show. That's what I want to show you today. Before I share those 6 steps, I want to give you the solutions to the three big challenges experts face as they try to build their podcast and audience. CHALLENGES The three big challenges podcasters face are ... - They make it more complicated than it needs to be. - They have a poor strategy to attract their ideal clients and make money with their podcast. - They have no mentor to show them the way and hold them accountable. They simply don't know where to start. Let's talk about how you can easily overcome those three big challenges. COMPLICATED The first challenge I mentioned is that podcasters often make it more complicated than it needs to be. Simplify the process. There are 4 steps to creating a profitable podcast. Grow your audience. Build trust with that audience. Give them a resource to help them overcome their struggles. Finally, offer them additional help where they can pay you. 4 steps. It doesn't need to be any harder than that. Streamline your process and make it simple. Don't overcomplicate it. And stop chasing sponsors. NO SPONSORSHIPS The second big challenge I mentioned is that many podcasters don't have a strategy to attract their ideal clients and make money with their content. Many people believe sponsorships and advertising are the easiest ways to make money with a podcast. Untrue. In fact, those are the hardest. You shouldn't clutter up your show with ads. Instead, use it as a powerful marketing tool for your business and attract your ideal clients rather than clients for sponsors. Let me show you some reasons why sponsorships are the worst strategy you can take. First, it will eat all of your time. Radio stations have full teams that spend their entire day selling ads that listeners don't want. At my last station, we had a team of 18 selling ads 40 hours a week. At the same time, listeners are fleeing traditional media, because there are tired of sitting through all of the ads when there are other options. Don't jump into a market that is shrinking. Next, you only get paid once while your sponsors get paid over and over again. When you advertise for a sponsor, they pay you one time. They get paid every time a product is sold. You then need to go land another client to get paid again. Finally, few podcasts are big enough. Studies show that it takes roughly 5,000 downloads per episode to attract the big sponsors. Less than 7% of all podcasts are at that level. That means if you are like the 93% of the rest of us, you aren't even in the sponsorship game. You need another strategy. STRATEGY To make money with your podcast, you need to create a strategy that you can repeat over and over again. Focus on one strategy step-by-step until you reach success. That step-by-step process is my Audience Explosion Blueprint. It consists of six steps. PODCAST PLATFORM Step one is your Podcast Platform. This is your foundation and your why. TaVona Denise worked with me to build a strong foundation and a powerful "why" for her show. She worked as a nurse, but no longer loved the profession. She transitioned out of nursing into a new career. Soon, she began coaching other nurses to do the same and find the career they loved. This quickly became her purpose in life and she built her show around helping nurses launch their own businesses. POPULARITY FACTOR Step two is your Popularity Factor. This step helps people discover you. You get in front of new potential listeners and show them how you can help. This is all about partnerships, attraction and engagement. You want to find influencers who are already speaking to your ideal clients and partner with them. Greg Payne is the host of the "Cool Grandpa" podcast. He was around 350 downloads per month. After implementing the Audience Explosion Blueprint, his monthly downloads hit 854. When I put this step into place with my own show, I was able to double my downloads in the span of three months. I basically doubled my audience in 90 days. That was after 275 episodes as well. CONTENT CREATION Step three is your Content Creation. This is what you podcast. Your content gets people to listen to your show. Your content builds your authority and trust. This is how your ideal clients gets to know, like and trust you when you do it right. Sadie and Sausha created the "Meathead Test Kitchen" podcast. They talk about content they love and interview influencers in their niche. They've interviewed Olympic athletes, MMA fighters, renowned chefs, and various other powerful people in the niche. The two of them do it with a flair and sense of personality only these two tatooed ladies could deliver. In the first episode, you know exactly who they are and what you get. There's no holding back. INFLUENCE ROADMAP Step four is your Influence Roadmap. People may come for your content. They keep coming back for your personality. Build relationships with your listeners. Jedlie is one of my clients. He has the "Reading With Your Kids" podcast. Jedlie is a magician, clown and performer. He brings that personality to his show and builds relationships with his audience. STARTING STRATEGY Step five is your Starting Strategy. Without a roadmap, you can't hope to get where you're going. You need a strategy. Let me show you a case study that will show you how this works. When Oscar Trimboli came to me for coaching, he had the desire to strengthen the connection between his podcast and his consulting business. Season one of his podcast consisted of interviews. He was headed into season two and wanted this season to be more about teaching his five levels of listening. Oscar Trimboli is a mentor, leadership coach, speaker, author and podcaster. His podcast and book are both entitled "Deep Listening – Impact Beyond Words". Oscar Trimboli has 30 years' experience in bringing out the best in senior executives and next generation leaders. As we worked together, our challenge was to bring that power and authority to Oscar's podcast. Our goal was to create engagement with his audience and demonstrate his authority in the space. Over time, this would help him grow his consultancy. He could demonstrate his authority on his show and gain new clients. To build his authority in his space, I suggested that Oscar interject himself more into the episodes, so listeners get to know, like and trust him. Oscar Trimboli is now the author of 3 books. He has coached, mentored and advised people in a wide range of roles from founders, CEOs and CFOs . He has also been asked to speak to leadership teams and their organizations. His podcast is now focused on the same material. Oscar demonstrates his authority in and mastery of the space. This allows potential clients to experience what his coaching, mentoring and consulting is all about. CONVERTING CLIENTS Finally, step six is creating your Converting Clients. This is where get your listeners to your sales conversation and invite them to work with you. SHOW ME HOW The third challenge many podcasters face is that they don't have a mentor who can show them the step-by-step process and hold them accountable. They don't know where to start. Let me show you. What would it mean to your podcast if you had an easy way to grow your audience? In order to make money with your content, you need to grow an audience who needs your expertise. Then, you need to build a relationship with that audience. There is a secret to growing your audience nobody talks about. Getting listeners isn't enough. You need to develop a plan to actually keep them coming back time and time again. Many podcast gurus teach you how to create a podcast. Record your interview. Convert it to an .mp3. Upload it to your host. You have a podcast. Now what do you do? Some may even teach you how to get a few listeners. But, that is where most people teaching podcast stop. FILL THE BUCKET The problem is … if you keep putting water in a bucket with holes in the bottom, it becomes very difficult to increase the amount of water in the bucket. The same is true with your podcast. If you keep adding listeners, but they don't stick around, your audience and authority won't grow. Can you understand why both sides of the equation are important to your growth? If you want to use a podcast to grow your business and authority, you need to build it on a solid foundation and strategy. This is step four of the process … "Your Influence" roadmap. Your personality keeps them coming back for more if you use it right. THE BLUEPRINT This whole strategy is what I call the Audience Explosion Blueprint. My Audience Explosion Blueprint is built on these 6 steps for successful podcast audience growth and monetization. Your Personality is the the magic sauce. Your personality is the way people get to know you, like you and trust you. It is your personality that keeps them coming back for more episode after episode. So many forget this critical ingredient. Your podcast can't be all about information. Your content needs to be engaging entertainment. Your personality makes you unique. It makes you stand out from everyone else. Develop your personality through the stories that you tell and the details that you share. People will get to know what you believe and value. How great would it be to be able to follow a plan day-by-day to develop your personality, grow your audience and monetize your show? No more guessing. Just a way to take action to increase your downloads. Do you want to stop all the trial and error searching for the right process? WHERE TO START What would it mean to your income if you had an easy way to connect to the big fish that are your ideal clients? I can't guarantee you will make money from your podcast. Only you know the viability of your topic, your abilities and your willingness to work. However, this blueprint will definitely help you build a framework to see what is possible. Let's talk about using a podcast to create and grow your business. You have been trying to find unique ways to build your audience and make money with your show. Since we've started, I hope you've written down a few ideas on how you might incorporate a podcast into your marketing plan. You have the blueprint that can help you. Here's what I know.

Today, I have the pleasure of interviewing Jeff Walker: Jeff is one of the world's most successful online entrepreneurs the creator of Product Launch Formula and the #1 NY Times bestselling author of the book Launch. He has spent the last 15 years helping people launch their online courses, memberships, coaching and books. His students and clients have done over a BILLION dollars in launches in hundreds of niches and markets… and in dozens of countries around the world. Jeff lives in Durango, Colorado and he loves to get outside for all kinds of adventures. On a more personal note, Jeff is someone I am honored to call a teacher and mentor. I've been following his work pretty much for as long as DIY MFA has existed and got the first edition of his book Launch when it came out in 2014. I read it cover to cover and still have that paperback edition with all my highlights and mark-ups, which I keep next to my desk. In 2017, I was finally ready to make the investment and do the Product Launch Formula (PLF) Coaching Program. My team and I relentlessly applied the techniques to our flagship DIY MFA 101 course (with epic results!) and since then, we have applied PLF techniques—with our own special word nerd flair—to launch all our DIY MFA programs. Today, we'll be talking about launching as it pertains to launching a book. In this episode Jeff Walker and I discuss: Why his first launch was the most important and the role his email list played. How writers of fiction and memoir can apply his Product Launch Formula to their lists. Strategies for determining what your assets are and how to maximize them. Plus, his #1 tip for writers. Jeff Walker is the New York Times bestselling author of Launch and the creator of the Product Launch Formula. Jeff and I sat down recently and in our conversation he shared: - How his $20 book has led to the majority of his $40,000 mastermind students - Why he didn't hit the NYT list on launch week even though he sold more copies than books on the list (and what he did the next week to get there!) - How his book fits within his ecosystem of course sales, memberships, and high end coaching. - And why his super power of not getting bored has led to more impact and income than he could ever have imagined Be sure to check out his book at https://thelaunchbook.com/ Also my first book How To Get Paid For What You Know is available for pre-order now on Amazon or wherever books are sold. His Product Launch Formula (PLF) taps into some very powerful principles and strategies of effective marketing. But he's also simplified their application in a masterful way. I want to leave it to you to discover the whole PLF process through Jeff, if you want to go deep into that. (https://amzn.to/37F3RvA (His new updated & expanded version of his Launch book is a great way to get started.)) But his 4-Part “Sideways Sales Letter” Framework has applications beyond PLF-style launches. Applications he doesn't teach. Applications I think every copywriter or marketing message creator can consider to get more response. That's the focus of today's episode. https://youtu.be/vjLMeplKSKA (Get my breakdown of Jeff Walker's 4-Part “Sideways Sales Letter” Framework from his new Launch book and the Product Launch Formula here...) Founder of Systeme.io, Aurélien Amacker, spoke with host Darrell Vesterfelt about his early life as a struggling blogger and digital marketer, his first $500K product launch, and mistakes he's learned from along the way to online success. Aurelian Amacker spent over a year, tens of thousands of euros, and lots of blood, sweat, and tears before he found the right formula (and team) for his popular software as a service, now used by thousands of customers to launch and run their own online businesses. In this episode, Darrell and Aurelian discussed: The tools Aurélien used to build a list of over 10,000 email subscribers for his first product launch (and why it was so stressful) Why he chose to move away from the “Product Launch Formula” 3 questions to ask yourself before taking a big financial gamble Why building the right team from the start is so important And much more! Join the Expand Online Summit Today -- https://expandonlinesummit.com The truth of the matter is that launching is hard… and I know because I'm in the middle of the biggest launch of my almost decade in online business! If you've been listening to the podcast for a while, you know that registration is now open for the Expand Online Summit for Artists and that I would love for you to attend. Just click this link! In my 5 phases of an online product framework, launch is the final stage. It's what we're working towards and it's a massive milestone in your online ventures. Without launching, we're just throwing spaghetti at the virtual online wall and hoping someone is going to follow the strands to our product or program. And that's not a well thought out strategy at all. But rest assured, launching doesn't have to be big or scary. So breathe, you've got this. Remember also that you're not going to start launching before you're ready to start launching. Your product is going to 100% be ready for people to check out and purchase. Now, let's list off the launch methods that I recommend in order of general ease. Email Webinar Challenge Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula - 3 Video Series Virtual Summit The easiest launch is just a simple email launch. The idea behind this launch is that you have the permission to send emails to several hundred past and potential customers and you build a series of emails to encourage them to look at your product sales page and purchase what you're buying. This is actually my preferred method of launching when I work with clients who are truly expanding online -- taking something they've been doing offline and morphing it into a product they can deliver online. Go back to episode 110 to see this model in action. The reason this does so well for this type of online expansion is because you already have a strong relationship with the email subscribers and they are overwhelmingly interested in what you do and offer. With an email launch, you'll want to have at least 3 emails in the “automation” “series” or “funnel” since people are busy and they might miss one or more of the emails. I also strongly encourage my clients to make sure their email system is smart and removes purchasers from the rest of the emails after they purchase. The last thing I want to see if selling to the already sold. OK, so if emails alone aren't going to do it for you, then the next launch method I suggest is a webinar launch. A webinar, or sometimes called a masterclass, is where instead of inviting people to go directly to the information page for your product or service, you invite them to sign up to attend a live online presentation. In this presentation it's fundamental to provide significant value and develop a need within your attendees to close the loop by purchasing your offer. There aren't any rules as far as format or length of the webinar, but I recommend providing a lot of high level value and practicing your pitch before you get there. I also believe that launching with a webinar means that you invest in the right tools -- like proper webinar software, provide everyone who registers the ability to watch a replay of the webinar for a short replay window and create a sense of urgency with purchase bonuses. A webinar style launch works really well when you are going beyond or deeper than what you've offered in your business to this point. You'll want to use the webinar launch to help people understand what it is that you're doing, why it matters and the benefit to them. Draw upon what you already know about your students or clients and help them see themselves being successful when they adopt the principles of whatever it is that you're pitching. Next up, the challenge. This one is super fun because it creates a huge amount of engagement and excitement. And the results that are achieved by participating are nearly unparalleled. With a challenge, you'll want to make sure that community is a big part of the strategy. Peers are a great motivator and so is leading by example. The most common type of challenge that I see doing well right now is one that is run inside a Facebook Group. Challenges can be as short as 3 days and most run 5 - 10 days. The shorter the challenge, the greater the ability for people to finish but the less invested they are in the process and the results. With a challenge, the idea is that you walk participants through activities that are going to help them tackle whatever it is that you teach or coach them on. They will get tiny wins which will help them see how valuable your teaching and coaching will be to help them get the desired result. Maybe you are a mixed media artist, and you're going to teach a course on creating found object art. The challenge would then be to build a stockpile of potential items to use in art -- so on each day of the challenge, you give a prompt or visualization and your participants collect the objects that they will ultimately use in your course. If they don't decide to buy your course, then they still have won, because they now have found objects to start exploring with. And if they do decide to join the course, you've got them well on their way to creating something completely new. With a challenge, and a webinar actually, and the other launches that I'm going to get into, it's most common to do a bit of promotion and invite people outside your immediate network to participate. This is how online reach and exposure grow. I'm not talking about paid advertising, I'm talking more about strategic online marketing. Using tools like Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest to attract people to your webinar or challenge from outside your immediate sphere. And always encouraging participants to invite their friends, family and peers. That's how these become bigger and more beneficial to your business. The next launch strategy is the Jeff Walker Product Launch Formula. The PLF method is to have usually 3 pre-recorded videos that release over the course of a week and then the ability to purchase becomes available after the release of the videos. The videos are getting people energized and ready to buy when your cart is actually open. They are different from webinars in that they are shorter (usually 15 - 20 minutes) and feel more professional. You're using them to build authority, trust, community and anticipation to state a few reasons for them. And they are chock full of free actionable content, much like a challenge is. A PLF style launch works really well when you have a launch team… something that I haven't talked about yet but will talk about as soon as I cover the virtual summit launch. This is what I'm doing… I'm hosting a virtual summit to grow my authority, email list, podcast listenership and ultimately to launch my new group program, the Expand Online Incubator. I'll have more to say about the Incubator on the podcast in two weeks. So, what is a virtual summit and why is this the launch method that I chose. Well, to start a virtual summit is a collection of interviews and masterclasses with experts in their own right. They are all available for free consumption for a limited time -- my sessions are available for 48 hours each. The Expand Online Summit consists of 23 sessions and sessions are released each morning for 5 days. The unique thing about the summit versus the other models is that it's a marketing benefit to not just the host and their business, but also for every single one of the expert speakers. So, in this model, the summit attendees are members of each of our audiences. That's 23 different people's audiences -- and when done right, there is minimal overlap between the speakers' audiences -- which makes for this to be one of the largest organic growth models. I chose the summit for this exact reason -- I didn't have a strong following in the creative and artists space and this is where I want to be. So I reached out to experts in this space and invited them to be experts on the summit. And that's how I'll have an audience to launch the incubator to. For most of my clients, starting your launch with your established customer base and strategic partners is a much easier road to follow. Summits take at least 90 days to pull together and when you launch warm, that can be done in a few weeks or a month. Now, that launch team that I mentioned a couple of minutes ago. A launch team is a curated group of friends and associates who can stand behind your authority and give social proof to your product or service. These are people who are willing to vouch for you and encourage people to sign up for your webinar or challenge or PLF style launch. Your launch team doesn't need to be compensated in any way, but I do love to see launch teams that have prizes and referral rewards. These don't even have to be big, they just need to mean something. So, there we have it, an overview of launching and if you haven't signed up for the summit yet, what are you waiting for? Click Here Now! Next week, I'll be back with episode 118 in which I'll be talking about sales pages and checkout pages. In this episode we're chatting with Angie Colee. She is not only a copywriter and talented storyteller, but she also leads the team over at Product Launch Formula with Jeff Walker. Angie not only knows the ins and outs of writing content for those launches, but also all the many moving parts that go along with creating a big marketing piece like that. But it wasn't always that way. Before she became a writing and copy project superstar, Angie was a full-time, in-house copywriter at a corporate company. When that didn't serve her anymore, she very courageously made the leap from the in-house writing job to full time, successful freelancer… ... and along the way she has become an industry expert on dealing with head trash, finding your confidence as a writer, and 'doing it anyway' when you're scared. Join us for some "raw talk" about that journey, and how you can learn from her experience. Episode Highlights How to VALUE your writing and your work Her counter-intuitive theory on living the life you want BEFORE you become successful How Angie made the leap from corporate writer to successful freelancer The hard lessons she learned about bragging about your work How she wrangles a massive amount of moving pieces involved in a large launch The importance of being honest about your "why" (and why you need to avoid b.s. answers) How she finds time to produce content for her own business and still balance a full time client roster The most important thing you need to know BEFORE you quit your day job How to deal with (and move past) the nasty head trash that comes with writing for a living Why it's important to find your personal "version of success" (and how to start looking for it)
Chris Orzechowski is a writing powerhouse. He's a copywriter who spends most of his time writing and strategizing about email copy, but he's built a business that's so much more than that. Chris' brain is like a money-making machine, and I've never seen anyone consistently produce so much GOOD CONTENT. He's created one of the best email writing courses in existence. He's just released a new book. He teaches writers how to write 7-figure email campaigns. And he's constantly writing and publishing incredible content for business owners, writers, and marketers. And on top of all that – He's a senior copywriter for the team over at Product Launch Formula with Jeff Walker, and also has several retainer clients. Here's Chris to tell you the "unfiltered" version of how he went from an overworked and underpaid middle school teacher, to an in-demand copywriting superstar. This is one episode you don't want to miss because we get into the nitty-gritty "raw" details of building a successful writing career Episode Highlights The raw, "non sexy" truth about how Chris went from Middle-school teacher to rockstar copywriter His 'mechanical' process for writing and publishing TONS of quality content without losing value How he diversified his income so he wasn't depending solely on 'done for you' writing clients The best way to communicate with your list consistently (and why you shouldn't be afraid to email your list!) His little-known email marketing secrets which most writers don't know How he wrote his book and used it to grow his business Why he recommends working on retainer with clients (and how to manage that ongoing relationship) His secret for managing all the 'niggly admin bits' of your writing business
All Selling Aside with Alex Mandossian | "Seeding Through Storytelling is the 'New' Selling!"
In 2016, a former partner and I had launched a product that we had worked on for about a year. We grew a list of 85,000 people, and during our two-week launch based on Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula, we expected to generate $2 million to $3 million. Instead, we generated less than $400,000 in gross sales—and we were over $400,000 in debt! To break even, we would have needed to make almost double that amount. I was embarrassed, demoralized, and humiliated, and nobody seemed to care. So what went wrong? As you'll learn today, there are three reasons why people won't buy from you: they don't understand you, they don't believe you, or it's not the right time. In this case, our specific mistake was that we didn't start with the end in mind, namely starting with the offer. Our audience liked and trusted us, and it was the right time, but they didn't understand us because we didn't make the offer clear. Let's talk about context. Without context, pushing an elderly person is always problematic and wrong. But we probably all agree that pushing an elderly person out of the way of a bus is a good choice that warrants the push! Context is decisive, which means that how you frame your offer determines the response. Today, I'll also talk about selling as scary work. In selling, the anticipation of the response (or rejection) from the other side can be terrifying. As Darren Hardy says, though, scary work pays well! That's where ethical influence comes in. By selling through storytelling, you can attract and convert more premium clients without the fear of traditional selling. I'll also discuss how taking scary steps expands your comfort zone, how to make selling fun, and the simple thing you can do every day to change your life! In This Episode: [01:59] - Alex talks about the three key insights, critical to making you a highly skilled ethical influencer, that you'll learn in this episode. [02:47] - We hear a story that illustrates the point that context is more important than content; $400,000 sounds like a lot, unless you need $800,000 to break even! [05:12] - Alex brings us to the specific moment that he was under the covers, in bed, with his face buried in his hands, trying to figure out why his launch didn't work. [06:55] - There are three reasons why people won't buy from you. Alex explains what these are, and then talks about which one they failed at when their disastrous launch happened. [09:00] - Alex discusses how they should have sold the product to make it clearer for the audience, so that they would understand it. [09:20] - How did Alex make up the $400,000 in debt that he owed after the launch failed? His answer reveals all of the good that ultimately came from the failure he talked about. [12:03] - The moral of the story is to make sure you're focusing on what's really important, Alex explains. [14:47] - If you want to successfully ethically influence others, always start with your offer and know that the context is more important than the content. [15:48] - Alex explains that he's hired to do high-end offers in a panel setting these days. [17:08] - Alex shares something that flipped a switch for him, and may flip a switch for you as well: scary work pays well. [19:29] - We learn what Alex did with the idea that scary work pays well, and how it helped him find success by doing things that scared him. [21:14] - Alex quickly reviews the specific insights that he explored in this episode, and recaps a recommended daily task. [23:01] - Alex offers listeners a final gift: a free copy of his book Alexisms! To learn how to get your free book, tune into the episode.
