Barzal's deflection of a Robert Bortuzzo shot from the blueline 84 seconds into the second overtime kept the series going. Seth Jarvis and Stefan Noesen bookended power play goals around Barzal's first goal of the series and a Jean-Gabriel Pageau power play goal as the teams were even at 2 after regulation. Frederik Andersen and Semyon Varlamov combined for 77 saves as both goaltenders were excellent. Game 5 is Tuesday at PNC Arena

The Hurricanes played well, but were victim to a couple of costly mistakes in a 3-2 loss at PNC Arena in Game 5. The series now shifts back to Long Island for Game 6 on Friday night. Brent Burns and Jaccob Slavin combined on a 1st period miscue that ended up on Pierre Engvall's stick and he slid the puck underneath the left pad of Antti Raanta for a 1-0 lead. Then, New York got a fortunate bounce as an Engvall shot deflected off the face of Sebastian Aho and fell to Brock Neslon at the side of the goal. Nelson batted the puck in out of the air for a 2-0 lead. Paul Stastny brought a goal back on a deflection of a Jalen Chatfield point shot. But, the Isles restored the 2-goal margin late in the 2nd period after Martin Necas had the puck stolen from him at the blue line leading to a Matt Barzal goal. Sebastian Aho closed out the scoring midway through the 3rd on a beautiful pass from Seth Jarvis but Carolina couldn't find the equalizer.
The Pens mounted a hefty comeback against the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, but your co-hosts aren't sold. If they're really serious about marching Mount Doom and destroying the ring once and for all (making a deep run at the Stanley Cup), they need to win this game against the Isles in regulation. Whether it's the Penguins and Islanders (literally) fighting for playoff position, or the Maple Leafs making a blockbuster trade; things are getting HEATED in the NHL. Ray gave his impressions from broadcasting the Stadium Series in Carolina over the weekend, the ‘college tailgate' atmosphere, and a tidbit from Don Waddell on Hurricanes trade targets. In Headlines, the guys discuss potential landing spots for Patrick Kane, and if the Rangers could still acquire the star forward. Cale Makar is back in concussion protocol and his absence from the game prompts a discussion on stricter penalties for head contact. Matt Barzal is expected to miss significant time just as the Islanders need him most, Islanders playoff chances are examined in a tight Eastern Conference race. Who are the buyers and who are the sellers? The guys discuss the Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals, teams with expiring player contracts but still in the hunt for the playoffs. Ray tells us why he approves of the Maple Leafs blockbuster trade for Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari, and who else he thinks the Leafs should target. Plus, Brad Marchand's ‘ice-cold' All-Star game comments. Kris Abbott looks at a BUSY Tuesday night in the NHL, and why Betano's powerplay goals prop bet might be worth the wager. He discusses the change in odds for the Leafs after making the O'Reilly deal, and bettors trying to beat sportsbooks to the punch as trades potentially change the odds for a team's success. In Ask Ray & Dregs, the guys answer your questions! This week's questions include dream sporting events, and who makes the guest list, A switch in home & away jerseys; what Ray thinks is a happy medium, and the Lawson Crouse to the Buffalo Sabres rumours. Plus, Sara Civian chimes in with a question on who's the better brawler between Ray & Dregs. “Sparky: Leftover Mascot” PIT@NYI 12/27/22Islanders mascot, Sparky The Dragon can't seem make up his mind which team he wants to root for …at least that USED to be the case, when Sparky served as the mascot for the New York Dragons of Arena Football fame. Brock Nelson looks to make his return following a brief stint on the IR, and he's been red-hot of late. The Welcome Matt takes a look at the offseason that is ahead for the Canucks, comparing it to the summer of 2011 when the team had some of its top free agents to lock up, just as they do this summer with Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes. Nathalie Rees follows with some great prizes that you, the podcast listener, can win. Text (778) 402-9680 to enter. Harman Dayal joins after Hashtags - the best and worst of Twitter, and gives his opinion on what the nickname should be for the Canucks AHL franchise that is headed to Abbotsford, whose contract could be a comparable for Pettersson and Hughes' extensions, and whether or not he thinks the Canucks should be worried about offer sheets. Jeff Paterson follows Tell Me I'm Wrong and tells us that he thinks the Abbotsford team should use the Aviators as their nickname, why he thinks the Matt Barzal contract is the right comparable for the Pettersson extension, and why he doesn't see the Canucks trading JT Miller. Another spicy edition of Hot Take follows. We finish off the show with all the Errors & Omissions. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
