The Wiradjuri word Girragirra means to 'be well, happy and merry' and it was with this spirit in mind that fourth generation regenerative farmers Wendy Muffet and her husband Kim built their luxury eco retreat of the same name, located in the regional New South Wales town of Forbes. With their children having all left home, Wendy and Kim embarked on securing a piece of land for themselves that they could realise the dream of custom building two fully sustainable pavilions on - one for them and one for visiting family and other guests. Thanks to the prowess of the highly experienced, sustainability-focused architect they engaged, the resulting dwellings not only met but in many ways exceeded Wendy and Kim's brief for a home and lodging that had minimal environmental impact, maximum comfort and was low maintenance. Not only this, but the buildings have since served as the perfect backdrop for the many other productive activities going on on the property, including the cultivation of a thriving permaculture garden and the hosting of occasional workshops focused on cooking and other aspects of green living. It was a real privilege having the opportunity to chat with Wendy a couple of weeks ago about her's and Kim's journey and I'm sure you too will get a lot out of this chat.

Sing a song of Mary had a little lamb that scared Ms. Muffet away! This week Expert Ali takes us through the who and what of Mother Goose.
Coach Staley discusses media coverage of women's college basketball in this week's episode before being joined by the legendary Muffet McGraw. The coach-turned-analyst joins NETLIFE to discuss her recent beef with UConn head coach Geno Auriemma, her firm belief in the importance of seeing women lead women's teams, and why fans won't be seeing her back on the sidelines. Plus, Muffet shares why the WNBA should expand to Philly — and weighs in on the cheesesteak debate (spoiler alert: it has everything to do with women's college hoops).
On the show we talked about Coach Geno Aurriema's Shutdown on Muffet McGraw's Comments and the most recent NCAA Covid News!
UConn women's basketball still hasn't played since returning from Christmas because of COVID, but Geno Auriemma still found ways to make headlines. On Monday, the coach blasted Muffet McGraw for her comments about ESPN's supposed bias towards the Huskies. On this episode, we discuss that showdown, talk about UConn's COVID issues, come up with some theories about this year's team and also look at what's going on around the rest of the country. Today it is my pleasure to welcome two incredibly talented actors and best-selling authors that have both faced incredible success, but have been faced with set backs that would have made us made many of us give up. Mariel Hemingway & Anne Heche. They are here to talk to us about the lessons that they have learned along the way, refusing to give up, fighting their way through the pain, and how they made the choice to live with intention: A more fulfilling life of simplicity, a focus on their craft, adventure, stillness and laughter. Mariel Hadley Hemingway is an Academy Award Nominated actress, a best-selling author. She began acting at age 14 in a breakout role in Lipstick (1976) and received Best Supporting Actress Academy Award and BAFTA Award nominations for her role in Woody Allen's Manhattan (1979). She is also known for her roles in Personal Best (1982), Star 80 (1983) and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace She is the daughter of American royalty, The Hemingway family. Her grandfather is Ernest Hemingway, American writer. Mariel was the third daughter born to Jack Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway's son, and Byra Whittlesey. Her older sister, Muffet, suffered for years from instability, while middle sister Margaux, a celebrated actress and model who was caught up in the fast lane of career and success, eventually died of the effects of her driven lifestyle. Mariel was forced to assume the role of stable center of her family. Mariel turned to yoga and its meditative practice in an effort to maintain her center. Much of her adult life has been directed toward finding and maintaining her balance in situations that have been heartbreakingly unsettling and emotionally disorienting. She is a mother to two daughters Anne Heche is a Emmy Award-winning celebrated actor, and NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER for her biographical book, “Call Me Crazy” As a survivor of abuse, she's learned how to live and face the reality of a broken past on her own terms. Her father was one of the first men to die of aids in America, and three months later her brother took his own life. At 14 Anne fun d herself pretty much alone in the world. Despite these personal tragedies, Anne is a survivor: She made it to the top of the Hollywood A-List. She has starred with nearly everyone from Al Pacino, Johnny Depp; Tommy Lee Jones, Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman. She guest-starred on the sitcom Ellen, fell in love with its star, Ellen DeGeneres, and watched the roles dry up. Both of these strong women have “traveled a terrifying inner landscape in search of personal fulfillment -- and have emerged happy, whole, and strong.” I invited both for you here today to talk about your journeys and coping with mental health. There are a lot of similarities in each of your lives. Mental health is such a personal thing. We each deal with it in our own way, but we all need to be mindful of our own triggers, what to avoid, and how to stay healthy. www.deadpoetsfoundation.com
On the September 26th, 2020 edition of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union's Irish Sports Saturdays, host Angelo Di Carlo chats with former Irish women's basketball coach Muffet McGraw about retirement. Muffet hasn't just been sitting at home. She's been active in the community running food drives, including collecting 20,000 pounds of food locally. Nationally, she's running a "Meals with Muffet" drive that has collected 100,000 pounds of food! She did have one story of how one drive didn't go the way she expected and she almost accidently turned into a thief! Must listen to story there. We spoke to coach about why service is so important to her as well now becoming a professor at Notre Dame. Ashley Kovacs is in her Sixth season as an assistant coach with the Ohio State track and field program. Kovacs mentors the Buckeye throwers and serves as one of the team's recruiting coordinators. During the 2018-19 indoor and outdoor season she was responsible for the training and guidance of Sade Olatoye, a throws specialist who's legacy will be tough to follow. During the indoor season Olatoye was placed on the Pre-NCAA Indoor Watch List for The Bowerman– collegiate track & field's highest honor. Olatoye led the nation in both the shot put and weight throw after a stellar effort at the Indoor Big Ten Championships. The senior captured individual conference titles in both events with best marks of 17.88m (58-8) in the shot put and a 24.07m (78-11¾) in the weight throw. This stellar performance, along with her impressive ten titles in seven meets, being in Top Three of shot put and weight throw, has earned her a spot on this prestigious list. Olatoye is the first Buckeye in history to receive this honor, writing her name deep within the Ohio State record books yet again. The Ohio native secured the No. 6 spot in NCAA all-time history with her 24.07m (78-11.75) in the Big Ten Championship weight throw competition. She is only the second Buckeye in Ohio State history who is currently on the list. Olatoye was named Big Ten Field Athlete of the week five times in a row, creating another school record and Big Ten record to add to her accolades. She was named Field Athlete of the year for both the Big Ten and USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region. Sade Olatoye was also named Ohio State Athlete of the Year, one of the highest honors an athlete can receive within the University. Olatoye holds four Ohio State records, both indoor (17.88m) and outdoor (16.90m) shot put along both indoor (24.46m) and outdoor (67.49m) hammer. Due to this stellar season, Kovacs was hailed Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year for the second time in her career. Prior to her stint at Western Kentucky, Muffet spent a year coaching throws at Murray State while working on her master's degree. In her lone season with the Racers, Muffet coached freshman Tonia Pratt to Ohio Valley Conference titles in the weight and hammer throws, as well as OVC indoor and outdoor Freshman of the Year honors. A four-time All-American at Kentucky from 2006-2010, Muffet was an 11-time All-Southeastern Conference selection, an SEC Most Valuable Player and Commissioner's Cup winner, and a runner-up in the shot put at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships. Muffet participated in the U.S Olympic trials in 2008 and 2012 and holds Kentucky's school records in the shot put and discus. She competed unattached in three meets during the 2012-13 season, winning the shot put on two occasions and placing fourth at the 2013 USA Indoor Championships. A native Ohioan, Muffet is a graduate of North Canton Hoover High School (2001-2005), where she was a three-time state champion and former Ohio state-record holder in the shot put. Muffet earned her bachelor's degree in telecommunications from the University of Kentucky in 2010 and added a master's in human development and leadership from Murray State University in 2012. An emergency podcast with ESPN reporter Holly Rowe to discuss the surprise news: Two-time champion and Hall of Famer Muffet McGraw announcing her retirement from coaching after 33 years at the University of Notre Dame. Rowe also gives her thoughts on Muffet's replacement, two-time champ and Notre Dame alumna Niele Ivey.
Just in time for March Madness, Katie talks with legendary Notre Dame women’s basketball coach Muffet McGraw about how the Hall of Famer is working to diversify college sports, the failures of Title IX, and why we need more women leaders on and off the court. Then, Carla Williams—athletic director at the University of Virginia and the first black woman to hold the position at a Power Five school— talks candidly about the pressures of being a pioneer in a male-dominated field, and why the burden to diversify college sports shouldn’t rest solely with women and people of color. Later, some of Muffet’s former players, including Memphis Grizzlies assistant coach Niele Ivey, reveal what it meant to have a mentor like Muffet to look up to—and how her strength continues to inspire them long after leaving campus. It's the Championship episode with 2018 NCAA Women's Champions Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw, and 2018 NCAA Men's Champions Villanova head coach Jay Wright! Muffet recounts the whirlwind it's been for the team and especially star, Arike Ogunbowale, how she feels about a possible three-peat this coming season, what she expects from returner Brianna Turner now that she's recovered from her knee injury, and why Notre Dame is the best job in the country! Then Jay Wright joins to talk about the differences between this off-season and the 2016 post-Championship off-season. He also addresses filling the void after losing 4 players to the NBA (including Omari Spellman), what he expects from returners Phil Booth, Eric Paschall, and Dylan Painter, and why he feels Jalen Brunson had a "Hall of Fame type" college career.
Broadcasting for their first time from Vancouver’s West End, BaKChat debates bougie poutines, including the correct Quebecois pronunciation, and confirms Krista’s gullibility via the Canadian $50 bill. Is this the year? Is this the team? Can Notre Dame win Muffet McGraw her second NCAA championship? Of course we will not know until April, but it sure looks like it could be. This team is loaded, top to bottom, with talented players. Pre-season All-American Brianna Turner and senior point guard Lindsey Allen received the early press, but now it is sophomore guard Arike Ogunbowale that is leading the team, earning ESPNw Player of the Week honors today for her performance in the Preseason WNIT. Ogunbowale's 19.5 points per game has been a revelation, and her 67 percent from three shooting and 56 percent overall phenomenal. As mentioned above, though, top to bottom this team has the talent to keep its grasp on the number one spot it has in both polls. Ogunbowale, Allen, and Marina Mabrey are the shooters. Turner, Kathryn Westbeld, and Kristina Nelson the rebounders. Youthful exuberance comes from freshmen Erin Boley and Jackie Young. Then there's the coaching staff. McGraw and her team of associates are some of the very best minds in the game, and push their team to greatness like few other staffs can. If everyone stays healthy, especially Turner, it will be a great season for the Irish. We caught up with coach McGraw when they were announced as AP number one team to start the season and discussed what the year could be. Here is the interview and thoughts of McGraw, in her own words.

In this talk, Pramod says, “Some, as they try to meditate, get very annoyed or frustrated when thoughts arise. Maybe they have an unrealistic goal that when they meditate there should be no thoughts at all. There is a Tibetan saying, “It’s a tall order to ask for meat without bones and tea without leaves.” As long as you have a mind, you will have thoughts and emotions. The thoughts are composed of the mind stuff itself, just as the waves of the sea come from the sea itself and go back into the sea. In the same way, thoughts and emotions are the radiance and the expression of the very nature of your mind. Accepting such a compassionate view of your thoughts and emotions is the easiest way to quiet your mind in meditation.” Note: This is the live recording of a talk which was delivered by Pramod in India.
