Being unapologetically imperfect is seen as something we should be embarrassed by. But what I've learned is that we all experience the same insecurities. We just aren't talking about it. Well, I'm here to break the silence. For starters, I have way too many nipple hairs. I prefer the company of my pets to other people. And repeatedly I question Am I normal? I was born with brittle bone condition and so far, I've broken my bones 200 times. But most of the hurdles I face don't come from my disability, they come from things we all experience. In this book, I will share the lessons I have learned and why you should embrace your uniqueness as what makes you fabulous. We spend a lot of time living by others' expectations and it's only when you stop, that you start saying yes to life. Irrespective of who you are and the obstacles you might face, you can do whatever you want. In celebration of LGBT+ History Month, Partner Emma Bartlett had the privilege of interviewing Keith Winestein, who has been recognised for his fantastic work as a positive role model for LGBT+ by the prestigious National Diversity Awards. In this podcast, Keith Winestein and Emma Bartlett discuss why LGBT+ History Month is so important in providing a voice and visibility to issues surrounding LGBT+ equality and diversity. Over the past four decades, this has been at the forefront of much of Keith's work, starting with those affected by HIV and AIDs, and with the promotion of wellbeing and mental health initiatives, where his invaluable contribution is still going strong. Encouraging a sense of belonging for employees should be a core part of any employer's Equality and Diversity strategy, and one way in which this may be achieved is through celebrating role models who are brave enough to talk about their own experiences. In this podcast, we aim to raise awareness of LGBT+ History Month and to help educate on issues that can affect us all but that are not always spoken about. Allowing others to talk about how they might be impacted, or how they have supported colleagues and friends, can help break down barriers which otherwise prevent employees bringing their whole selves to work. Keith Winestein is one such role model.

It has often been argued that eugenicists were not real scientists, but almost all of their ideas were grounded in late nineteenth and early twentieth-century scientific discourse. Science is a social and a socialised endeavour. Scientists are people, and their work is embodied in the social and historical contexts in which they live. In this episode, Subhadra speaks to science historians and communicators who are experts in exploring and uncovering the stories around our science. Together they look at how eugenic thinking can be perpetuated, but also confronted by the stories we tell. This conversation was recorded on 23rd March 2021Transcript: www.ucl.ac.uk/racism-racialisation/transcript-what-does-eugenics-mean-us-episode-1Host: Subhadra DasGuests: Chiara Ambrosio, Associate Professor in History and Philosophy of Science in UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies, with a special focus on the history of art and science. How to be the change you want to see in the world with Nova Reid appeared first on Calmer You.
This week's guest is proof that sticking with your vision and applying your morals to your business is the key to success and change. Codilia Gapare, an entrepreneurial breast cancer survivor, has revolutionised the beauty industry by creating the first-ever false lashes range for chemotherapy patients. The mother-of-two had always dreamed of becoming a lawyer and started studying when she came to the UK from Zimbabwe. As Kate hears, just hours before her interview for University, Cody was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 36 and it was through this intensely difficult time in her life that she realised that there were no fake eyelash options for cancer patients. Hear how Codilia transformed her idea into an actual product, ‘C-Lash' was born and has partnered with beauty brand Eylure. The company has since released the range in Boots stores in 2019 and in Walgreens USA in 2020, making the cosmetic industry more accessible for women with cancer. Ambitions manifest differently for everyone and in this podcast host, Kate will be hearing about the different journeys and challenges her guests have faced whilst balancing their career goals, family lives and the often forgotten and elusive self-care. Kate Moryoussef is a wellbeing coach and mum of four who is passionate about wanting to help women rediscover their inner voice, tap into their expansive potential and realise themselves outside of their family dynamic. C-Lash was voted one of the 50 Prima High Street Heroes 2019 and Best Lashes in the Red Best of Beauty Awards 2019. Cody herself has been nominated for Woman of the Year 2019, won Beauty Award at the EVAs, Innovation of the Year Award at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards, Entrepreneur of Excellence Award at the National Diversity Awards all in 2019. Simon Green, where do we start? How lucky am I to have interviewed this amazing hero. Simon is the brightest role model. Not only surviving the odd's when it comes to his health but how he goes from strength to strength raising awareness and achieving greatness. All Simon's work, got him an honourable invite to the Queen's Garden Party this year and was so excited to hear more about how that event went. What a privilege but one that is well deserved. Simon fights hard to gain more diversity and inclusion within our society and works tirelessly campaigning to remove judgements from our society. He is a judge for the National Diversity Awards and is pretty much a key piece of the NDA's furniture . His own story and determination doesn't just motivate the nominees he is judging but the other judges too. It is such an honour to have Simon on the podcast and I am so honoured to have him as a guest . Simon was a delight and I KNOW so many of you will enjoy this episode but also get so much motivation from it. Thank you Simon! ENJOY all, xo.
Joanne and I are both humbled and extremely honoured to have been nominated for a National Diversity Award this year. This means more than words can describe to us because diversity amongst our society is SO important. We have both faced our troubles and our battles but we have found the courage to talk about our stories and now go on to inspire other's to do the same. This confidence and support is all backed by the National Diversity Awards, along with the amazing BREATH-TAKING heroes and role models who fight for diversity nationwide. The sky really is the limit now, as big companies get on board, people are more educated, aware and understanding and so we really are shooting for the stars. Joanne and I have both made it our mission in life to try to create a less judgemental and fair society. We want to leave a positive legacy and a mark on the world. We go out on the frontlines talking, raising awareness, working to shift people's mindsets and change the world we live in. We have both face rocky journeys but that has made us passionate about helping PEOPLE, healing hearts and soothing souls because we have been through and felt pain which we hope we can prevent other's from experiencing. I hope you enjoy this chat! I HOPE YOU ALL GET BEHIND THE NATIONAL DIVERSITY AWARDS and show your support. It really does go a long way and mean so very much. With their recent nomination for the National Diversity Awards for their work with gender, Davey and Damian take a moment to reflect on society's obsession with gender roles. With men being told to man up, gay men to be more “Masc” and boys fearful of being called ‘girly’, who better to help Davey & Damian explore these muddy waters then the author of The Gender Games herself, the wonderful, Juno Dawson. Through some hilarious confessions and brutal honesty, they learn just why destructive ideas of gender roles damages EVERYONE'S mental health, regardless of what we have between our legs. Paris Lees appeared in an earlier edition of Just Plain Sense about the signing of a Memorandum on trans people at Channel 4. Even then she was probably not all that well known outside of a small circle, having only moved to London the previous year. These days she is rapidly emerging as a rising star. She has quickly established herself as an art reviewer and commentator on issues of diversity. Her writing has appeared in the Guardian and the Independent, in Attitude magazine, and in Pink News. She has regular columns in Gay Times and Diva. She has appeared on Radio One and BBC TV ... and acted as a consultant on several programmes about trans people. Most notably, she launched a unique magazine, META, earlier this year. Paris recently won the title 'LGBT Role Model' at the National Diversity Awards. This interview was recorded with her the following morning whilst she was still getting used to the recognition.
