The Modern Film: Before I Wake (2016) "A couple adopt an orphaned child whose dreams - and nightmares - manifest physically as he sleeps” (IMDb.com). Our journey to Halloween continues, this episode begins with the guys discussing their “homework”. First up is Basket Case. Did John like it, are his comparisons to CHUD warranted? Male bush and more are discussed. Then, Michael J gives his thoughts on Demons and his thoughts are surprising to John. They wonder why an Italian language track wasn’t included, as a result some of the dubbing seems out of place, which, in Michael J’s opinion makes it humorous at times. Is Demons the Italian equivalent of Evil Dead? We debate whether or not Mike Flannigan can save Ouija and more! Writer/Producer Jimmy George joins us to discuss in depth the challenges of micro-budget film production and proves that it can be done and be very rewarding. Fans of WNUF: HALLOWEEN SPECIAL and indie film fans will get a lot of insight and inspiration from this discussion. We also get into his newly released comic book series, BURIAL PLOTS and more! The treats keep coming at Press Play as Actor/Producer/Composer Lito Velasco joins us to discuss his numerous projects, most recently, the horror film ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE. We explore his inspirations, acting methodology, and more. Be warned, our discussion of ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE is SPOILER HEAVY and we recommend viewing the film before listening to this segment of the show. CW: Rape, Suicide, Homophobia, Sleep Paralysis It's Nightmare Week on Pod Sematary! Kelsey & Chris dip back into the Freddy Krueger well with the second film in the classic series along with a Netflix documentary about the most nightmarish scenario anyone could dream up! The Classic Film: A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 - Freddy's Revenge (1985) "A teenage boy is haunted in his dreams by deceased child murderer Freddy Krueger, who is out to possess him in order to continue his reign of terror in the real world" (IMDb.com). This second installment in the Freddy Franchise is more than just one big camp reference to queer youth, even if they struggle to pin down exactly what makes Freddy "Freddy". The Modern Film: The Nightmare (2015) "A look at a frightening condition that plagues thousands: sleep paralysis" (IMDb.com). This horrifying documentary acts out the stories of eight sleep paralysis sufferers, but it doesn't go quite as deep as we would have liked. Recently, the Grue-Crew reviewed THE HAUNTING OF SHARON TATE on the Gruesome Magazine podcast. Our review of the film was mixed but positive, basically praising the director, actress Hilary Duff, and the cinematography; but, we were not certain we fully understood the intention of the film itself. Now, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to interview the director of the film, Daniel Farrands. We are grateful Mr. Farrands was available to fill in the clues and plot elements we missed along the way. And, boy, did he ever. This 45-minute interview is ripe with behind the scenes tidbits and insights. Daniel Farrands is a director, writer, and producer who began his genre career writing the screenplay for Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers. He is also the producer of The Girl Next Door, The ID, and The Haunting in Connecticut. He is also responsible for a series of horror movie documentaries: Never Sleep Again The Elm Street Legacy; Scream The Inside Story; Crystal Lake Memories; and. more. More recently, Daniel Farrands is behind the camera once again for The Amityville Murders, The Haunting of Sharon Tate, and the soon to be released The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson. While the interview centers around the making and the script behind The Haunting of Sharon Tate, we do touch on the other films and his entire career. Join Jeff Mohr, Crystal Cleveland, and Doc Rotten for this must-listen interview with the director, producer, and writer Daniel Farrands.
We just couldn't wait. October is here and on the Documenteers that means creepy movies all CREEPTOBER long. In a petty act of revenge for being tricked into listening to 19 versions of the song "I Think We're Alone Now" (Episode 36), Akil's selection for our first Creeptober doc was a four-damn-hour long retrospective on the history of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Akil and Bob rented and marathoned 2010's "Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy" by Daniel Farrands and Andrew Kasch. The results are surprisingly fun in our longest Documenteers episode yet. It's all about the cult of Wes Craven's Freddy Krueger and the weirdos that carried out his legacy. Crazy shit can happen when you make eight movies starring a knife fingered burnt up pedophile in a striped sweater. Special appearance by Johnny Depp and his alcoholism. We wish nothing but health and happiness for Johnny. Please don't hit women. Keep on Doccin'.

CW: Child Molestation, Sexual Assault This week on Pod Sematary, Chris & Kelsey are excited to discuss their favorite slasher villain! The Quipping Killer! The Dream Demon! The Springwood Slasher! The Bastard Son of One Hundred Maniacs! The Orangutan Goblin himself: Freddy Krueger! It's a Double Feature of A Nightmare on Elm Street! First up is the 1984 classic! It has the best cop-out of all time because everything happens in dreams. They can do anything! This low-budget flick almost didn't happen but writer/director Wes Craven and producer Bob Shaye wouldn't stop until it was made and the world is all the better for it! Plus, will someone please analyze Kelsey's recurring nightmare? Then it's the 2010 disappointment... Perhaps surprisingly, we'd really like to see a good Nightmare reboot, but boy did we not get one here. Unlike the Thing premakequel, which we decided was simply unnecessary, this remake is a wasted opportunity to reinvigorate the beloved franchise. But we try to find the good in it anyway... is there any? Get more at podsematary.com! For our Halloween episode we look at new documentary 78/52 which is a deep dive into the shower sequence from Alfred Hitchcock's classic PSYCHO. Considering that your two hosts are thoroughly unsuitable to leading a deep dive on one of the greatest achievements in cinema, we feel more comfortable explaining our love for this new film by selecting two other movies: Oliver Stone's JFK, famous for its editing and perhaps infamous for its attention to historical accuracy, is paired off with the exhaustive documentary on the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series NEVER SLEEP AGAIN: THE ELM STREET LEGACY. ALSO: We warn young film fans of the dangers of interacting with other cinema lovers online. Speaking of which...
