La vida consagrada hace presente en el mundo el mismo estilo de vida de Jesucristo, que vivió pobre, obediente y casto. En este último programa de «El sacerdote», el P. Matthew Nobrega nos cuenta cómo descubrió que Dios le llamaba no solo a la vida sacerdotal, sino también a consagrarse como religioso en los Siervos del Hogar de la Madre. Ellos no se definen por las actividades que realizan, sino por lo que son. Son de Dios y, a partir de eso, Dios puede hacer con ellos lo que quiera. Como dice la fórmula de sus votos: «Jesucristo será mi única riqueza y mi único Tesoro».

La Santa Misa, la adoración al Santísimo Sacramento, el Rosario y la confesión frecuente son el alimento espiritual del sacerdote. El P. Matthew Nobrega, Siervo del Hogar de la Madre, advierte que, sin este alimento, el sacerdote corre el riesgo de perderse y ser absorbido por la actividad diaria, terminando por actuar movido solo por rutina. Nos habla de su experiencia como párroco y comparte algunos recursos que él utiliza para cuidar su vida espiritual y la de su comunidad, para asegurar que siempre se haga primero la voluntad de Dios.

«El trato con la Virgen María no es accesorio, sino que es esencial». Así se expresa el P. Matthew Nobrega, Siervo del Hogar de la Madre, en este programa de «El sacerdote» que dedica a la importancia de María en su sacerdocio. Anima a los sacerdotes a predicar con más frecuencia sobre Ella, modelo de vida cristiana, y a ofrecer su cariño maternal a las almas a través de su vida sacerdotal. Está convencido de que todo sacerdote que pone su corazón, sus afectos y su voluntad en el Corazón Inmaculado de María, posee un «arma nuclear» para afrontar las tentaciones y asechanzas del demonio.

El Señor, en su infinita bondad, viendo la debilidad del hombre a causa del pecado original, quiso darnos la posibilidad de arrepentirnos de nuestras faltas y, acudiendo al Sacramento de la Confesión, ser perdonados por el sacerdote. La experiencia de la confesión es una experiencia de liberación, perdón y olvido. El P. Matthew Nobrega, Siervo del Hogar de la Madre, nos habla acerca de su experiencia como ministro de este sacramento. Destaca la importancia de una buena formación para poder ayudar a las almas a afrontar las luchas y tentaciones del día a día.

El P. Matthew Nobrega nos habla sobre la misión que desempeña como sacerdote dentro de los Siervos del Hogar de la Madre. Para él, cada comunidad de Siervos a la que ha sido destinado, ha supuesto un tiempo lleno de gracias, de crecimiento espiritual y de aumento de amor por la evangelización de las almas. Destaca, en particular, el curso que estuvo destinado en Ecuador, donde experimentó fuertemente la mano providente y misericordiosa de Dios en cada actividad que le encomendaban.

El P. Matthew Nobrega experimentó por primera vez la llamada a los 15 años. El Señor le mostró, a través de una homilía, su vocación sacerdotal. A pesar de querer responder con prontitud, fue arrastrado durante algunos años por el mundo, dejando la idea de ser sacerdote como un mero recuerdo, hasta que, en la universidad, comenzó a experimentar más intensamente la necesidad de entregarse por completo a las cosas de Dios. Tras un largo discernimiento, entró a formar parte de los Siervos del Hogar de la Madre, para ser sacerdote y religioso.

El P. Matthew Nobrega, Siervo del Hogar de la Madre, fue ordenado sacerdote el 19 de diciembre de 2015. En este programa, «Él me eligió sin merecerlo», explica brevemente los estudios y pasos preparatorios que el seminarista debe realizar antes de llegar a ser sacerdote y cuál fue su experiencia personal en este periodo. Es consciente de no ser merecedor de este gran don. Por ello da gracias a Dios por haberle elegido y pide oraciones para desempeñar fielmente su misión durante el tiempo que el Señor le quiera conceder en esta tierra.

El P. Matthew Nobrega, Siervo del Hogar de la Madre, para ayudarnos a comprender la grandeza del ministerio sacerdotal nos explica qué es lo esencial de este ministerio. Solo el sacerdote puede traer el Cielo a la tierra, solo él es puente entre Dios y los hombres. El P. Matthew considera que es necesario que los fieles tengan fe en este ministerio, pero señala que es aún más importante que los mismos sacerdotes tener fe en lo que son, porque si dejan de creer en el don recibido, su sacerdocio se deteriora.

She is also affiliated to the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University.
