Toxic Behavior in Leaders Often Comes from Personal Triggers Leaders who struggle with workplace interactions are often reacting from a place of personal stress, past experiences, or subconscious triggers. High Performance Doesn't Justify Poor Behavior A leader may be delivering results, but if they create a toxic environment, the overall impact on the team and company is negative. Common Signs of Poor Leadership Leaders who overpower conversations, micromanage, dismiss feedback, or create fear among their teams. Feedback Culture is Key to Leadership Success Constructive feedback should be built into an organization's culture, ensuring leaders receive honest input and can adjust accordingly. The Power of Self-Observation and Accountability Leaders must recognize their own patterns of behavior and work with trusted colleagues for real-time feedback. Emotions Play a Role in Leadership, But Shouldn't Control It Women, in particular, often receive conflicting feedback (too aggressive vs. too emotional), and they need to find their own authentic balance. Leaders Must Learn to Separate Issues from Individuals Workplace debates should be about the idea, not the person. Leaders must be skilled at discussing disagreements without making them personal. Team Members Can Influence Leadership Behavior Employees can tactfully question and provide feedback to difficult leaders, helping guide them toward better workplace interactions. Healthy Workplace Cultures Are Built on Trust and Constructive Conflict Leaders should encourage open discussion, embrace challenges, and create a space where their teams feel safe speaking up. ----- ----more---- Your Intended Message is the podcast about how you can boost your career and business success by honing your communication skills. The Christian walk involves moving from sympathy to empathy, as exemplified by Christ's compassionate suffering and sacrifice. By actively listening, showing care, and trusting in God's presence, believers can better support and connect with others. The word sympathy originates from a Greek word meaning a shared feeling or a willingness to help because of shared feelings. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar share how the Christian walk involves fellowshipping with God first and then with others. In fellowship, we often move from sympathy to empathy. Sympathy is feeling sorry for someone's situation, whereas empathy is about experiencing their emotions because you've been through similar situations yourself. No one wants to go through pain, but enduring it can strengthen your spiritual muscles. Everyone has faced tough times, enabling us to relate to others' pain and emotions.1 Peter 3:8 speaks to this topic, emphasizing that being like-minded and sympathetic fosters compassion. Christ is our ultimate example—He did not stand above human suffering but willingly stepped into it. Jesus endured complete separation from God so that we would not have to experience that separation. Through His sympathy, we are saved, and this empowers us to sympathize with others. Sympathy naturally leads to action. It's about trying to understand and entering into someone's world, even if you haven't experienced their exact circumstances. The guys speak about how sympathy is the Lord opening your eyes to the people around you. Believers often become self-centered, forgetting the precious souls bearing the image of Christ surrounding us. Romans 12:15 encourages us to weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice. It is essential to actively listen and slow down. Overpowering conversations can make others feel undervalued. Listening to bless others can also be a learning experience. Jealousy can sometimes hinder our ability to rejoice with others, but love focuses on the well-being of other people. It all comes back to remembering the sympathy that God has towards us. To grow in sympathy, ask thoughtful questions and be mindful of the environment and the people around you. Engage in actions that show you care. Be patient with those who are suffering and encourage them to move forward and actively walk with the Lord. The guys encourage Christians to remember that there is value in your suffering beyond what God may be doing in you. Affliction serves to convince us of our own insufficiency and dependence on God. Even if you feel isolated, remember that God sees your struggles. Continue to move forward, trusting in God's presence and support. Send us a text Thanks for listening! Do you ever catch yourself believing those lingering negative comments from the past? Eric addresses how these can form neural pathways, influencing our reality and emotional responses, and both he and Jeff explore how you can rewrite this narrative. They also touch on the bigger EQ picture—from the simplicity yet profoundness of a noble goal, the strategic navigation of your emotional GPS, the anchoring power of intrinsic motivation and optimism, to the practice of consequential thinking.Top TakeawaysAccurately identifying and interpreting one's own feelings, as well as those of others, is a fundamental competency of emotional intelligence. Belief in negative comments from one's past can lead to the formation of neural pathways that establish a distorted 'reality'. Addressing one's vulnerability and acknowledging the need for reassurance play a significant role in managing concerns and emotions rather than dismissing or avoiding them.Identifying negative emotional patterns and understanding their impact on behavior are crucial steps in improving emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence involves applying consequential thinking, which is about weighing the costs and benefits of choices and understanding their long-term effects. Aligning actions to personal values and finding one's noble goal can provide clarity and purpose. Like using a GPS for emotional guidance, strategic use of emotions involves recognizing where one is emotionally and deliberately using that knowledge to navigate complex situations.Empathy is key to emotional intelligence and involves a deep understanding of and responding to others' emotions. Recognizing and being honest about one's capacity for empathy and support—towards both oneself and others—is important. Developing emotional intelligence is not just about gaining knowledge but actively practicing it through recognizing and navigating emotions, understanding patterns, and evaluating consequences. The Overpowering Nature of Unmet NeedsThe overpowering nature of unmet needs creates chaos, resulting from influence, and can lead us to do things we don't want to do. When we continuously make decisions that are not beneficial and put us in a loop, we feel out of control, weak, depleted, and terrible about ourselves. These lead to boredom, frustration, anxiety, loneliness, and struggle, which result in cravings for self-destructive ways to meet our needs. When we meet our needs in unhealthy ways, we self-criticize and take ourselves out of the present moment, making it difficult to make decisions aligned with what we truly desire. In this episode, Tina shares more about the overpowering nature of unmet needs and how to meet our needs healthily to avoid craving for self-destructed ways. When dealing with an out-of-control situation, there are unconscious needs that are driving us, and if we don't meet them in a healthy way, we'll meet them in a way that is not legitimately and authentically the right way. Unmet needs will not go away. Stop trying to operate on your willpower and learn how to ID, move to acceptance and decide how to proceed! Get to know what your soul wants for you and allow the full expression of your potential and the magic life has for you. Don't allow unmet needs to rule your decisions. Let's jump in!Key Highlights from the Episode[00:01] Episode intro and what's in for you[00:23] The overpowering nature of unmet needs[01:17] Craving self-destructive ways to meet our needs[02:51] Meeting your unmet needs in an unhealthy way[04:00] Using the willpower to navigate and its limited nature[06:07] ID the need and decide how to proceed [09:04] How numbing your unmet needs diminishes legitimate needs and emotions[10:32] Opening up the high vibe card deck Live and your message[15:55] Choosing kindness for yourself and what it means[17:19] Wrap-up and calls to actionQuotes If you don't meet your needs in a healthy way, you'll meet them artificially by Dr. Omar Manejwala.Unmet needs are going to be met; they are not going away.Focus on your triggers with compassion and curiosity; your unmet needs are teaching you something. Our emotions are the road maps to our soul's journey; we just need to learn how to read and navigate them. You cannot numb your unmet needs without diminishing other legitimate needs and emotions. You're right where you're supposed to be, and your goal is to figure out what you want and the path that will get you there.Resources Mentioned: Craving: Why We Can't Seem to Get Enough by Dr. Omar Manejwala: https://www.amazon.com/Craving-Why-Cant-Seem-Enough/dp/1616492627Let's Connect:Get Tina's life-changing emails: https://mailchi.mp/9e4f2ad2699b/tinaGet Tina's new (amazon bestselling) book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BYHW4HGM/Check out her website/invite her to speak: https://tinaandersonoc.comhttps://www.instagram.com/tinaandersonoc/https://www.facebook.com/tinaandersonOC/Connect via other SM? One animal that has seen it's fair share of importance, but mostly infamy, while rising through the superstitious minds of human history is the owl. A couple of the owl's powers that people believe in are possessing the ability to commune with our ancestors while being a spawn from the underworld. Nonetheless, the majority of people believe it is here to cause mischief and misfortune for us earth-walkers until the end of days. We can find the owl's influence as far back as Sumerian culture, the ancient Greeks, and even in todays masonic architectural layout of Washington D.C. (seriously go check out some pictures of it). The owl has been linked to various cryptids like todays subject and even the infamous Mothman of Point Pleasant as well as the descriptions of some people's encounters with extraterrestrials. The owl has vigorously gripped within it's talons; the human psyche. Overpowering it with the dominance and authority that it holds in the realm of the supernatural. From this supernatural uprising, we have the Stikini from Seminole Peoples folklore. A human/avian hybrid that shapeshifts between forms depending on the time of day. During daylight hours, the monster turns human, indistinguishably. It blends into society, staking out the lay of the land and scouting for potential prey. Upon nightfall, the Stikini turns into a murderous, bipedal, avian humanoid and seeks out the hearts of it's victims. A true supernatural serial killer if you ask us. Unfortunately, with the majority of Seminole peoples folklore being of oral tradition, we don't have too much information on the Stikini and therefore it may be somewhat lost to history. Nevertheless, if you find this legend hard to believe in, that doesn't make it any less real for others... Hi, Intentional Besties!
Over-powering kids and using willpower on ourselves is one way; there is another way. One that has to do with consent, connection, receptiveness, and an internal want and “YES”. I practice the latter both with myself and my little one. Over-powering is easier in the moment but erodes a potential special connection. When I see people grab kids by the forearm my heart lurches both for the kid and the parent. It seems like it takes a lot of work to slow down, talk to our kids, and be patient for them to respond and say “yes”… but it is often only a few minutes… this few minutes + presence is an investment that PAYS off in folds. Less tantrums, less fighting, less rebellion … more connection, more trust, more agreement. and my little one. Chandra Zas is on a mission to help people understand and solve their digestive issues. Greetings, Gamers! For the first time this season (but not the last!) we bring you an episode focusing on multiple composers! This time we wanted to give the spotlite to three non-Japanese composers whose experience doesn't stretch back quite as far as the others we spoke about, but who are doing great work and who we believe have a bright future ahead of them! Dusklight joins us (as always) for the season's 5th episode, where we Tristan Alric's wonderful, Paper Mario-inspired score for Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling; a wonderful, eclectic selection of tracks from Celeste's Lena Raine, and some highlights from the worldwide phenomenon, Deltarune, the latest work from multi-hyphenate Toby Fox. As always, each of these tracks follows our number one rule: it's all Very Good Music! Thanks as always to our amazing patrons and the artists who made our show art and theme song.
