In the heart of our spiritual exploration, we often encounter figures whose lives illuminate the path for us all. On today's episode, we welcome Philip Goldberg, a scholar, teacher, and author whose work delves deeply into the life and teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. With a gentle touch, Goldberg paints a vivid portrait of Yogananda's journey from the banks of the Ganges to the bustling streets of Boston, bringing ancient wisdom to a new world.Philip Goldberg shared that Yogananda's mission was not just a personal endeavor but a destiny foretold in his youth. His guru recognized the potential in the young Yogananda, preparing him for a monumental task: bringing Kriya Yoga to the West. Goldberg eloquently explains that Yogananda was destined to transform the spiritual landscape of America, a mission that required immense courage and unwavering dedication.Yogananda's arrival in America in 1920 marked the beginning of a remarkable odyssey. As Goldberg recounts, the young swami arrived with little more than his spiritual fervor and the blessings of his lineage. Despite initial struggles, including cultural shock and racial prejudice, Yogananda's teachings began to resonate with a growing number of Americans. He moved from small gatherings in living rooms to filling symphony halls, his message of inner peace and universal love finding fertile ground in the West. One of the most intriguing aspects of Yogananda's work, as highlighted by Goldberg, was his ability to bridge Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. Yogananda spoke extensively about Jesus Christ, presenting him as a figure akin to the great sages of India. This inclusive approach allowed many to reconnect with their spiritual roots, seeing Jesus through a new, esoteric lens. Goldberg notes that this was not merely a strategic move but a sincere reverence for all enlightened beings, fostering a deeper spiritual unity.SPIRITUAL TAKEAWAYSInner Transformation: The essence of Yogananda's teachings lies in personal transformation through Kriya Yoga, a practice that helps individuals achieve inner peace and higher states of consciousness.Universal Love: Yogananda emphasized the importance of universal love, transcending religious boundaries and fostering a spirit of inclusivity and compassion.Overcoming Adversity: Yogananda's journey demonstrates the power of perseverance and faith in overcoming life's challenges, inspiring us to pursue our spiritual goals with determination. In a moving recollection, Goldberg describes Yogananda's final days, filled with tireless work to ensure his teachings would endure. He continued writing, teaching, and organizing, knowing that his time was limited. On the night of his passing, Yogananda spoke about his love for India and concluded with a heartfelt poem before peacefully departing from this world. In this profound conversation, Philip Goldberg encapsulates the spirit of Yogananda's legacy. Through meticulous research and heartfelt storytelling, Goldberg ensures that Yogananda's light continues to shine brightly, guiding seekers on their spiritual journey. Please enjoy my conversation with Philip Goldberg.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/next-level-soul-podcast-with-alex-ferrari--4858435/support.

Saniel Bonder and Linda Groves-Bonder work together as spiritual teachers through the Human Sun Institute, the organization they co-founded. Best known for the process called Waking Down (later Waking Down in Mutuality), they describe their mission this way: "To being heart-based embodied awakening to a worldwide audience." Our conversation focused on their spiritual histories and their current work, such as what it means to become "a human sun." We also addressed delicate issues relevant to contemporary spiritual seekers: the potential of power abuse by teachers and the vulnerability of their students. To most of us, the word surrender evokes weakness, defeat, captivity, and giving up -- not good things. Yet, many spiritual traditions call upon followers to surrender and portray it as the key to the kingdom. In this spirited and illuminating interview, the globally-known transformational teacher, Kute Blackson, author of the inspiring new book, The Magic of Surrender, describes how surrender, properly understood and applied, can lead to freedom, strength, and spiritual riches by syncing individual consciousness with divine intelligence. Arielle Ford was a highly successful agent and publicist who represented some of the world's top self-help and spiritual authors. Then she became an author herself, writing 11 non-fiction books including Wabi Sabi Love and The Soulmate Secret, which launched her on a new career as a respected coach and speaker on the subject of love and relationships. Now she's published her first novel, The Love Thief, about the spiritual transformation of the main character, an American woman who finds herself in India. We spoke about why she wrote the book, the plot and characters (without giving anything away), and why fiction can be especially transformative for both author and reader alike. Why has reading Paramahansa Yogananda's book Autobiography of a Yogi changed so many lives? Join author Philip Goldberg as he discusses this important book, that he calls “An iconic memoir of an authentic yogi.”
Psychologist Rachel Harris, author of Listening to Ayahuasca, joins us to discuss her fascinating new book, Swimming in the Sacred. In recent years, entheogens, aka psychedelics, have enjoyed a resurgence of interest since research on the substances was halted amidst the abuses of the 1960s. Studies undertaken at prestigious universities have been demonstrating the therapeutic applications of the "medicines." While she, like many psychologists and physicians, consider this a promising, if not transformative, development, Dr. Harris is concerned that "research protocols may be significantly different from the best practices developed over decades of work by guides in the underground psychedelic community." We discussed exactly what that hard-earned wisdom consists of and the potential psychospiritual benefits of the careful use of entheogens. The Vital Veda Podcast: Ayurveda | Holistic Health | Cosmic and Natural Law
It is unquestionable that Vedic culture & tradition has had a remarkable impact on the West. The ancient philosophy of Yoga Vedanta has profoundly affected the worldview of millions of people all around the world. It started in the late 18th century in the USA & some major European countries, and in the 1960s it reached an absolute cultural explosion, following the Beatles trip to India for an extended stay with their new guru, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. After that, in the past few decades, the rise of technology and social media took care of making these teachings accessible to almost anyone in the world. The impact has been enormous, enlarging our current understanding of the mind and body and dramatically changing how we view ourselves and our place in the cosmos. On this episode of the Vital Veda Podcast I had the pleasure of sitting down for a chat with Phillip Goldberg, the world-renowned author of American Veda, a book that chronicles the impact of India's spiritual teachings on the West, and was named one of the top 10 Religion books of the year by Huffington Post and Library Journal.IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:
In season 4, episode 8, I am speaking about how to get out of our own way. I am reading the book, "Get Out of Your Own Way" by Mark Goulston, M.D and Philip Goldberg and in this book they talk about helping us to overcome self-defeating behaviors. Sometimes we are so guarded that we put up walls that will not allow others to get in. I am encouraging us to seek out help to tear down those walls so that we do not end up alone.
