High Point Market Trends – Fall 2024

Inside Design

We had an amazing trip to the High Point Market and are excited to share the latest and greatest trends regarding lifestyle, colors, furnishings, wood finishes, fabric and lighting. There were some very distinct trends that we saw at this market more than previous ones, with quiet luxury, sustainable materials, escapism and customization. We'll share the products we saw, the educational and social events we attended and tell you about our Insider's Tour. Key Takeaways Vacation Inspired lifestyles - from coastal and mountain homes to speakeasy style spaces, the market had several designs that bring the feel of second homes, lake houses and retreats into every day life. Earth tone colors like cinnamon, apricot, smoky blue and sage green marked a shift away from neutral whites and a move towards a warmer palette. One big lighting trend is rechargeable options in picture lights and tabletop lamps making it easy to place them anywhere. Pleated and fabric lampshades are also back in style, a classic look we haven't seen in several years. Paris 2024 women's tennis singles gold winner Zheng Qinwen of China has fueled a nationwide trend in tennis sportswear and related fashion.2024年巴黎奥运会网球女单金牌得主——中国选手郑钦文在网球运动服及相关时尚领域引发了一场全国性的热潮。As the "tenniscore" trend takes hold, sportswear and fashion brands have ramped up their focus on tennis apparel. Global activewear leader Lululemon has launched its 2024 Tennis Club collection, featuring retro-colored tennis dresses, skirts, shorts and tanks. The tennis series has become one of Lululemon's important product lines, the company said. The brand first ventured into tennis gear in April 2022. Wilson, a tennis-focused sportswear brand, introduced the Marta dress — a white tennis dress priced 1,690 yuan ($236) — during Wimbledon in July. The dress quickly sold out in the Chinese market. During this year's 618 shopping festival around June 18, Taobao saw a 256 percent year-on-year increase in online searches for tennis skirts, with transaction volumes up by 158 percent year-on-year. Searches for Lululemon's tennis skirts alone surged by 95 percent year-on-year. 95%。 Data from Meituan indicated that since July, tennis-related online searches have jumped by over 60 percent, while tennis-related orders have skyrocketed by 172 percent. 172%。Zheng's Olympic victory further fueled this trend, with online searches for tennis dresses on Taobao increasing by 240 percent within a week. 240%。 The surge in popularity of racket sports has coincided with a proliferation of tennis events across China. The China Open in Beijing, the Rolex Shanghai Masters, and the recent ATP Tour in Chengdu, Sichuan province, and Zhuhai, Guangdong province, alongside digital broadcasts of grand slams, have all contributed to this tennis boom. Wen Liyuan, who runs a leading tennis training camp in Beijing, noted a significant rise in interest among children and their parents. "Many kids are inspired by Zheng's win and are eager to learn tennis. Those who had previously quit are now looking to resume their training," Wen said. She also said that livestreamed tennis events have garnered numerous reviews and comments from enthusiastic fans, while some commercial real estate projects are beginning to explore tennis-related developments. Ren Jing, a sports influencer in Beijing, recently returned to the court, attributing her renewed interest to the growing popularity of tennis. "Wearing tennis apparel enhances my performance, especially in terms of agility and mobility," Ren said. Tennis-focused brands such as Wilson, Lacoste and Nike have continually updated their apparel and shoes to improve the on-court experience." Ye Fei, a manager at a tennis store near the National Tennis Center in Beijing, has also observed a surge in foot traffic and sales. "In the past, customers would buy a single racket. Now, entire families are coming in, each member purchasing his or her own racket," Ye said. He also noted that children who previously practiced other sports are now keen on switching to tennis after watching Zheng's matches. Off the court, "tenniscore" has risen to prominence in the fashion world, with luxury brands eager to tap into the market. Mia Kong, a fashion influencer based in Shanghai, attributed the trend's success to its resonance with the lifestyle of middle-income families. "Tenniscore is here to stay. The pleated skirt easily blends into daily wear and fits the vintage aesthetic that has dominated fashion in recent years," Kong said. Appareln.

There are a couple reasons why men's pants tend to bunch up in the front when they sit down: Excess fabric: The main culprit is simply that there's more fabric in the crotch of the pants than is needed when you're sitting. When you stand, that fabric fills out the pants. But when you bend at the waist, the extra material has nowhere to go but bunch up. Body proportions: Our bodies are proportioned differently when sitting vs. standing. The distance between your waist and crotch gets smaller when you sit down. Pants aren't really designed to accommodate this change perfectly. Here are some things that can influence how much the pants bunch up: Pant style: Pleated pants tend to have more fabric in the front, which can lead to a bigger "tent" effect. Flat-front pants tend to be less bulky. Fit: Pants that are too tight can be uncomfortable, but pants that are too loose will bunch up more easily. Material: Stiffer materials tend to hold their shape more and create a more pronounced tenting effect. There's no way to completely eliminate the bunching, but trying different pant styles and fits might help you find something that minimizes it. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/moodkillers/message

In this episode the crew gets together to discuss #Amazon #PrimeVideo #Them. The series  follows a #black family’s first ten days in an all white neighborhood in 1953, #Compton. Being that this was a period piece, it’s always nice to see the creators stay true to the time. One of the bright sides of the writing was that the creators put just enough ostentatious historical events and practices to make the audience reconsider whether or not this is based on a #truestory. The family’s home becomes ground zero for evil. Whether it’s the malevolent forces that torment the family’s insecurities until they are manifested into demons that haunt them. Or the expected harassment from the neighborhood’s Bugle Boys Brigade and The Pleated Posse, the family is pushed to their limits by these unmelinated forces and well #watchyagondo. The series is similar to that of an #AmericanHorrorStory so the story will likely change from season to season but the faces will remain the same. Season is definitely worth watching. It picks up after episode 5 but continues to keep you enthralled from thereon. As usually a few of the storylines made it on our #shortbus but there’s enough to make it not a waste of time. How to Heat Your Home Efficiently for Fall Weather

Today's Homeowner Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 5, 2020 19:34

Are you ready for fall weather? In this special Today’s Homeowner Podcast, we’re talking with Kellie Lindenmoyer, Gas Furnace Product Manager at American Standard Heating and Air Conditioning. Here are a few things you can do to prepare for cold weather, along with tips to save on your heating bills.  Prepare for Fall Weather Make sure that your furnace or heat pump is ready to work when the first cold snap hits. So, before harsh fall and winter weather arrive, check your thermostat. To do that, just set it to heat mode, and make sure hot air actually comes out of the vents. If your heating works, great! But if you don’t feel warm air, it’s time to call a professional technician. Most dealers offer annual maintenance plans to ensure your indoor and outdoor units work throughout the year. This extends your system’s life and ensures you won’t end up in the cold without heat. Each checkup may cost $100 or so, but it’s a good investment. Think about it: You get oil changes and tire rotations because you want to keep your vehicle running and in top condition. It’s no different for your heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. So, don’t take your HVAC system for granted and wait until the system breaks to get professional service. Let a technician inspect your burners and make sure they’re in top shape for fall and winter weather. While that professional maintenance may cost $100 here and there, it could save you the thousands of dollars it costs to prematurely replace the system. The Importance of Energy Efficiency HVAC systems purchased before 2006 usually have a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio that’s significantly lower than today’s industry standards. In fact, some of today’s heat pumps can save you 60 percent on heating bills, whereas an older model may save you just 10 percent. That’s not too encouraging when you realize how much you’ll use that system during chilly fall and winter weather. A heat pump is an energy-efficient option to bring warm air from outside your home to inside your home using refrigerant. It can deliver both warm and cool air, and operates best when temperatures are above freezing levels. Furnaces, on the other hand, burn natural gas or liquid propane to deliver heating. But you can get the best of both worlds: A heat pump and furnace can be paired to create a dual-fuel or hybrid system. You can optimize the system to run on a heat pump when it’s above 30 degrees Fahrenheit and when it falls below that threshold, you get the benefit of a furnace! Perfect for chilly fall and winter weather. But not all HVAC systems are created equal. Some are louder than others, and some operate on full blast, reach the desired temperature and immediately cut off — meaning you can expect a lot of warm and cold cycles in your home. American Standard Heating and Air Conditioning’s AccuComfort Platinum 20 Heat Pump has variable speeds that provide even heating throughout the home. And American Standard Heating and Air Conditioning’s Gold 824 Control is a smart thermostat that programs your temperatures and makes adjustments whether you’re at home or anywhere with internet access. How many times have you left the house and realized you forgot to turn the thermostat down and it will run all day? Having a smart thermostat eliminates that problem, and it’s a great way to optimize energy savings during fall and winter weather. The Importance of Indoor Air Quality Sometimes, when the sun shines just right, you can see the rays stream through a window. And you can see all kinds of particles floating in the air. Those are the kinds of allergens that you should remove to improve your indoor air quality. But not just any air filter will do. Pleated and reusable filters are a better option than typical grocery store filters. They remove more particles, which is great for your health, and they last longer, which is great for your wallet. Either way, regular maintenance is necessary, so replace the filter regularly, as advised. The last thing you want are clogged filters that strain your heating system, especially during fall and winter weather. This week, we switched it up to take a deep dive into lighting with Ballard lighting experts Valerie and Roger. They answer all our lighting questions including, how many light sources we actually need, the rules for wattage and color that can help us get the best brightness and not waste money, and why light fixtures are like the jewelry of a home. They also give their personal picks for the type of lighting that works best in a space, share rules for using shades and finding the right lamp height, and common mistakes we make that can make a huge difference in creating a simple yet beautiful mood in a room. What You’ll Hear on This Episode: Valerie handles the “pretty” part of lighting at Ballard, and Roger hands the technical. How Valerie and Roger work together to make things both as functional and aesthetically pleasing as possible, and what a day in their work life looks like. How we know if a room is under lit, and if there is a thing as too much lighting in a room. The rules of thumb for hanging lights at different levels, and the most important rules of can lights. Why we shouldn’t rely on one fixture such as a chandelier to be our main source of light. The many different ways light bulbs can make or break a room, what exactly wattage is and how we are paying for it, and how to know which LED colors to pick. Why Roger loves incandescent lighting, and how we can use the Kelvin temperature scale on the Ballard website to better understand which type of bulb to pick. What a humming sound inside our bulbs means, and what we can do about it. How to check to see if a light meets your “CBD” needs - Color, Brightness, and Dimmable. Pleated, paper, and printed textures are in, so bring those shades on! How to best match the lamp with the appropriate piece of furniture, and how to know what height and width works best for picking lamps. What makes some lamps more expensive than others, and how to get the right deal when paying for a lamp. If we should or should not put shades and chandeliers, and the rules surrounding it regarding functionality. The true confessions of how often we really clean our ceiling fans. Jr. Lollypops can't seem to get his mic up to Agenda's standards and creates a bit of tension. Let's see, they also blather on about the same old same old that we love to hear again and again. If you haven't given up some accolades in awhile than be a pal and give the fragile ego's of Anonymous Trio a most needed boost. Love always, and of course, go have some fun.
