This special episode was recorded live at the Miu Miu Literary Club, which took place on 9th-10th April 2025 in Milan. Under the direction of Mrs Miuccia Prada, and now in its second iteration, the Literary Club is the latest in a series of cultural experiences devised by Miu Miu to promote the arts. - Naoise Dolan is an Irish author whose first book, ‘Exciting Times', was published to widespread acclaim in 2020. Naoise followed this with the equally well-received ‘The Happy Couple' in 2023. In both books, Naoise tackles the confusion of contemporary life with precision and wit: her characters grapple with sexuality, housing instability, social media malaise, and our growing class disparities. At the same time, Naoise brings a fresh, often unpredictable perspective to the timeless topics of education, girlhood, and desire that inform this year's Literary Club curation. - Deep Reading Lists can be found at phoebe.substack.com - @phoebelovatt @phoebelovattpubliclibrary @naoisedolan @miumiu

This week, Alyssa is joined by her longtime friend, colleague, and former fashion month travel buddy Tyler McCall for a delightfully unhinged recap of the Spring/Summer 2025 shows. While it was impossible to cover every high and low (Alyssa didn't even mention Bella Hadid's return to the runway at Saint Laurent, which is extremely out of character), the ladies touch upon the season's biggest topics of conversation, from the Substack discourse déjà vu to the vacant Chanel job. Tune in to hear their unfiltered takes on the most effective fashion week coverage; which brands are nailing their social media and storytelling strategies; whether we've reached Peak Tiny Mic; why Alessandro Michele's comeback at Valentino is so exciting; the season's new nepo babies; why Jonathan Anderson and Miuccia Prada are still in leagues of their own; what happened to brands having a point of view; how to put together an interesting front row; runway stunts done well and those gone awry; the most FOMO-inducing moments of the month and, inversely, the most cringe; and whether it all boils down to the fact that people just want to feel something. Arianne Phillips is an American costume designer. Phillips was recognized for her work on the Broadway musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, starring Neil Patrick Harris, earning her a Tony award nomination for Best Costume Design. Phillips has a long-standing relationship with Madonna, with collaborations including photo shoots, music videos and designing tour costumes for six world tours over the past two decades. She has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design three times, for James Mangold's Walk the Line (2005), Madonna's directorial debut, W.E. (2011), and for Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). Phillips has also received a two BAFTA Award nominations for Tom Ford's A Single Man (2009) and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Her film career also includes Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals (2016), Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) and Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), James Mangold's Girl, Interrupted (1999) and 3:10 to Yuma (2007), John Cameron Mitchell's Hedwig And the Angry Inch (2001), Mark Romanek's One Hour Photo(2002), and Milos Forman's The People Vs. Larry Flynt (1996). In between film and music projects, Phillips works as a freelance fashion editor and stylist, collaborating with photographers for publications such as Italian Vogue, V Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, German & Spanish Vogueand W Magazine. She continuously challenges herself by taking on projects that explore new expressions of her creativity. In 2018, she made her New York City Metropolitan opera debut, designing Nico Muhly's opera, Marnie. Miuccia Prada selected Phillips for her Iconoclasts project; to curate installations for the brands flagship stores in London and Beijing which included a short fashion film for the brand, which Phillips wrote and directed, called Passages. Her friend Alessandro Michele, Creative Director of GUCCI commissioned her to create content for a special issue of A Magazine he guest edited and to style a brand film directed by Gia Coppola. She has also collaborated on special projects with Van Cleef and Arpels, Cartier, Valentino and Swarovski. Phillips was an inaugural member of the TIMES UP coalition and was asked by Reese Witherspoon to design its logo. Lawrence Sher, ASC,is an American cinematographer and film director, best known for comedy films such as Garden State, The Dictator, and The Hangover series, frequently collaborating with directors Todd Phillips and Zach Braff.[ He made his directorial debut with Father Figures, which began a wide theatrical release on December 22, 2017, by Warner Bros. Pictures. He was nominated for an Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Cinematography for the 2019 film Joker, directed by Phillips. As cinematographer of the 2009 film The Hangover, Sher described how a scene early in the movie shows the main characters on the roof of their hotel overlooking a stereotypical shot of the Las Vegas Strip; Sher indicated that he had tried to evoke the behind-the-scenes Vegas—after the characters wake up the following morning—by shooting a scene behind the hotels where the real action takes place. Actor Bradley Cooper credited Sher's visual style with enhancing the film's comedy, noting how Sher has "a great eye, a lot of energy and he just knows what's funny" and that "Some guys just can't shoot comedies, but Larry knows exactly what he's doing." With the success of Zach Braff's Kickstarter, Sher worked on Braff's 2014 feature, Wish I Was Here. In January 2020, Sher was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on the movie Joker, but lost to Roger Deakins for 1917.

Zoe Ghertner is a photographer renowned for captivating work blending art, fashion, and documentary storytelling. With a keen eye for detail and an innate sense of composition, Ghertner's imagery transcends conventional boundaries. A New York native based in Los Angeles, her work often reflects the vibrant energy and diverse landscapes of Southern California. Ghertner's portfolio includes collaborations with leading fashion brands, such as Miu Miu, Chloe, Wales Bonner, and Hermès, as well as publications, such as American and British Vogues, i-D, Self Service, and W. Through her lens, she invites viewers into a world where reality and imagination converge. Episode Highlights: Ghertner had a very imaginative childhood, where she learned the importance of positive, clear messaging.  Ghertner has partnered with Fee Steinvorth to create neoNutritions, a new vision of wellness rooted in spirituality and connection, with more of an interconnected focus on education compared to other health and beauty regimes. She sees what's contemporary now as a sense of connectedness that resonates despite a modern overabundance of images.  Saying that photography and consumerism go hand in hand, Ghertner speaks to the struggle to achieve and sustain commercial success while also holding to the values deeply rooted in her work, such as unwavering attention to her subjects. Despite working with digital imagery and print media across personal projects and commercial collaborations, Ghertner says each effort informs another and that she's a natural multihyphenate creator. Her first shooting of model Małgosia Bela was a breakthrough in “being able to work with someone with skills and ability.” She went through a phase of digging deeply into her subjects before garnering enough experience to represent that research and those conversations in the final imagery.  The support of women in the industry—such as Phoebe Philo, Miuccia Prada, Grace Wales Bonner, and Gabriella Hearst—has “allow[ed] me to grow and step into their worlds, which expands what my picture is about as well.”  Speaking to how images can traumatize or trigger elements of culture as a whole, Ghertner says her reaction to the male gaze and mental health advocacy are “a big part of the what and the why of how I'm making the pictures I make.” Having moved to warm and sunny California to experience a better quality of life, Ghertner experienced a shift in perspective akin to experiencing motherhood for the first time and creating a new body of work—and a new book.  Learn more about your ad choices. BoF's editor-at-large and founder and editor-in-chief look back at the key moments of fashion month, from Sabato de Sarno's debut at Gucci to Sarah Burton's farewell show for Alexander McQueen. Background: This season, fashion month saw several highly-anticipated debuts (Sabato de Sarno at Gucci, and Peter Hawkings at Tom Ford) as well as goodbyes (Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, Fabio Zambernardi at Prada and Miu Miu, and Gabriela Hearst at Chloé). But, beyond those headline-making moments, the highlights included the slyness and humour at Prada where models walked down a runway against a backdrop of dripping slime to an Alfred Hitchcock soundtrack, Dries Van Noten's and models at JW Anderson in plasticine-made hoodies..“The best shows make you think and make you feel a little uncomfortable or they evoke some kind of emotion — but they also make you want to shop,” says Imran Amed, BoF's founder and editor-in-chief. Following the conclusion of Paris Fashion Week, Amed sat down with BoF's editor-at-large Tim Blanks to discuss the highlights of the Spring/Summer 2024 season and the hallmarks of a great fashion show. Key Insights:Sabato de Sarno's much-anticipated debut at Gucci, which included a change of venue from the streets of Milan's Brera district to Gucci's headquarters forced by inclement weather. “If those girls had been walking on cobblestones just like people going somewhere, seeing those clothes in a real environment, it would have taken on a different kind of life,” says Blanks. Alexander McQueen said goodbye to Sarah Burton, who served as a steward for the brand for more than 10 years after the death of its namesake designer. ( “ She was so umbilically connected with [McQueen] that the brand ethos was sustained to a remarkable degree. I would hate to see McQueen now become one of those brands where no one really knows what to do with it and it's in play,” says Blanks. Rick Owens show featured plumes of coloured smoke and bursts of rose petals — and a collection full of thought-provoking statement pieces. “There is really no one like him in fashion, and I don't know if there has ever been anyone like him in fashion,” says Blanks. Blanks calls Undercover's Jun Takahashi one of the industry's most fascinating designers. This year, Takahashi showed a provocative collection that played with proportions and layering, with a finale that included “terrarium” skirts, filled with plants and live butterflies. “He makes clothes that … people might consider to be avant garde, but they're so beautiful and wearable as well,” says Blanks.Prada was the “show of the season.” A few years into Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons' collaboration as co-creative directors, the show's success was a convergence of elements beyond the collection itself — from the soundtrack (Alfred Hitchcok's “Vertigo”) to the set. “It reminded us of Prada in its full glory where there was that slyness and humour and perverse glamour,” says Blanks. Visionary founder of @stylenotcom, Beka Gvishiani, grew up in the former Soviet republic of Georgia with little-to-no access to pop culture—or even basic electricity. In this episode, Beka shares his seemingly overnight success story in the fashion industry with Christopher Michael. However, his digital platform and unique voice are rooted in years of hands-on experience promoting up-and-coming international brands. With its distinctive blue and white all-caps format and its wittiness and substance, @stylenotcom instantly caught the eye of industry heavyweights; its posts reflect not only what's contemporary now but also the historical trends that have shaped fashion and culture. He still finds his stratospheric rise hard to believe, including the success of his creative agency, Ariel Bold, counting Colette co-founder Sarah Andelman and fashion editor Katie Grand among his champions, and co-creating his first Vogue covers featuring the Ukrainian flag. "I still sometimes feel it's a big dream that has happened to me." Episode Highlights: Turning Technicolor: Beka's life was turned upside down when his interest in pop culture and music collided with the revolution in his native Tbilisi, Georgia, and the “gold, shiny light” that went on the first time he saw a Vogue magazine cover. Beka built a platform for his passion first by becoming a regular on forums like The Fashion Spot and then launching the Glossy Newsstand blog on Tumblr in 2010. Faster than Light: The splash Beka made—and the attention he got—using social media tags to highlight insider information about magazine covers and content ahead of the pack. Beka's longtime collaboration with the celebrated magazine editor Katie Grand. Like a Dream: Beka's love of headlines scintillated and evolved into his distinctive, eye-catching @stylenotcom all caps, words-only title format in 2021—rapidly building a viral following, especially among industry insiders.  The Power of Formal Education: Beka doesn't attribute his success to the BA he earned in Finance and Business Administration so much as the early hands-on skills he acquired working with international brands in his native Georgia.   Arial Bold: The creative consulting agency Beka co-created based on his experience with every aspect of fashion design promotion, shoot production, and branding for up-and-coming labels. Hero Moments: Getting a hug from Tim Blanks at the Bottega Veneta show last year. One of only 200 invited to Saint Laurent's menswear show in the Marrakech Desert; being featured in a Business of Fashion article; doing his first Vogue cover; meeting many personal heroes and fashion icons.  Looking Ahead: No merchandise planned … yet! Additional content featured on extensions that build upon the Style Not Com brand and format. What Endures: Despite his digital fluency, Beka is a huge proponent of the traditional runway, media, and publications. (Hint: The physical feel, smell, and textures will never go out of style and are a snapshot in time.) Embracing the Romance: The past is a powerful inspiration for Beka, who believes without nostalgia—understanding the past—there is no future. The Fashion Icons Beka Still Dreams of Meeting: Karl Lagerfeld (unfortunately no longer a possibility), Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld, Kate Moss, and Miuccia Prada. What's Contemporary Now? Whatever comes authentically from the heart and mind currently but at the same time draws on and respects fashion's rich archival past.

Alcuni nomi: Giorgio Armani, Gae Aulenti, Joseph Beuys, Giorgio Bocca, Roberto Calasso, Gillo Dorfles, Umberto Eco, Inge Feltrinelli, Dario Fo, Carla Fracci, Allen Ginsberg, Krizia, Vico Magistretti, Enzo Mari, Marcello Mastroianni, Ottavio Missoni, Bruno Munari, Fernanda Pivano, Gio Ponti, Miuccia Prada, Ettore Sottsass, Giorgio Strehler, Ornella Vanoni, Lea Vergine, Luigi Veronesi, Gianni Versace, Andy Warhol.

In queste pagine si raccontano in prima persona attrici come Monica Bellucci e Stefania Sandrelli, cantanti come Laura Pausini e Gianna Nannini, campionesse dello sport come Valentina Vezzali e Federica Pellegrini. Scrittrici come Dacia Maraini, critiche come Fernanda Pivano, editrici come Elvira Sellerio.

In this third episode of the Podcast Live by Crina Okumus, I talk to the beautiful Angela Lindvall. Angela is a model, actress, yogi, and a mother of two beautiful boys. She was featured on the cover of Italian Vogue in 1997, photographed by Steven Meisel. She was featured on many top magazine covers in the late 1990s and the early 2000s, such as Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Maria Claire, Numero, W, i-D, V, and so on. And during the peak of her long career, she was always the world's top designers' favorite, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Stella McCartney. She was a Prada Girl and a Chanel Girl. She has worked as the face of Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, Prada, Calvin Klein, Miu Miu, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Versace, DKNY, Roberto Cavalli, Fendi, Missoni, Jil Sander, and Jimmy Choo. As an actress, she has appeared in several films, including CQ in 2001 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005 and Small Apartments in 2010. She was the host of the fashion reality series Project Runway: All-Stars, an extension of the popular series Project Runway.Angela is a tremendously inspiring woman of many talents. While at the peak of her modeling career, she became pregnant. Voices from the industry told her she would be jeopardizing her career should she decide to continue with the pregnancy. Angela persisted in the face of pressure, became a happy mother, and never looked at the industry through the same lense. Her story is emblematic of the unique struggles women endure when chasing their dreams.Since a young age, she has always been drawn to human consciousness, metaphysics, Ancient cultures, and spirituality. She began to privately study feverishly at the age of 15- questioning life's purpose and researching as a hobby. After becoming a mother of two, and slowing down her career, she became a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher, Health coach, and recently started her certification as a Doula. Being “The Mother” she considers her true calling and purpose in life. For over 3 years she has been envisioning and creating the direction to share this purpose beyond her own children. In addition to her career, Angela openly talked about some of the most meaningful events in her life:- Her definition of BEAUTY- Another view of the fashion industry after becoming a mother- Her story with COVID-19 - The loss of her younger sister at an early age- The importance of caring for the mind and the body with discipline and commitment - What are we doing with our time and the people that we love - Her new Passion Project: Peace Begins in Meand many more topics...What struck me the most was Angela’s openness to sharing what most of us might think of as sensitive information. When you combine this openness with the curiosity that comes from years of challenging experiences, what you see is an intellectually curious, wise, and loving person who transcends herself to talk about the human condition per se. Thank you, Angela, for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me. I feel truly blessed. To all our listeners, kindly support us by liking this video and subscribing to our channel! With love and good wishes,Crina O.

There is a lot of excitement and buzz surrounding the news that Raf Simons will join Italian luxury brand Prada as an equal co-creator with Miuccia Prada. The talented Belgian designer has moved from one creative director position to another over the past several years, including Jil Sander, Dior and most recently Calvin Klein. The big question on the tip of everyone’s tongue…will it work? Tom Ford’s turn as the Creative Director at Gucci for ten years from 1994 to 2004, is largely credited with the introduction of the fashion designer as uber creative director. This role was now responsible for more than just designing six collections a year, but for creating marketing campaigns, store designs, and on top of that curating their own image and fame. This complete control worked so well for Gucci, that other brands followed suit. While there have been some examples of success employing this autocratic model, the end result was mostly designer burnout. It was proving an impossible task to do everything…something that Simons understands all too well. So…the announcement this week is especially interesting because the creative duties will be shared. And perhaps these two singular artists will be afforded the real luxury of more time to create ideas, share ideas, and find new inspiration in a fashion system that is ever more demanding and mass driven.

A famous pastry shop co-owned by Italian luxury brand Prada will open a branch in Mayfair, London, this April. Pasticceria Marchesi, also known as Marchesi 1824, is a favorite hangout spot of the fashion industry's elite during Milan Fashion Week. It is a family-run pastry shop that first opened in Milan in the early 1800s. The shop is widely known for its freshly-baked artisanal pastries and sweets, as well as an aesthetic and “Instagrammable” interior with antique decorations. The new branch, which will be located at the upscale Mount Street in London, will be Marchesi 1824's first shop outside Italy. The London outlet will have a bakery, a pastry counter, and a café. It will offer the shop's iconic Italian delicacies, like the sweet bread panettone [pan-i-TOH-nee], sugared almonds, Italian hot chocolate, as well as other confectioneries. Because of its almost 200-year history, Marchesi 1824 is considered as one of the oldest and best pastry shops in Milan. The patisserie [puh-TIS-uh-ree] also continues to use cooking traditions from when it first opened in the 1800s. The London branch will be the third Marchesi 1824 store since Prada acquired majority of the patisserie in 2014. Marchesi 1824's continued expansion is in line with Prada's aim to promote the Milanese pastry shop locally and internationally. Journalists conclude that buying Milan's historic pastry shop has been a way for Prada's current head designer, Miuccia Prada, to give back to her hometown and to uphold an important piece of its culture.

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 27, 2012 54:30

Men snart tog kärleken slut, liksom Elsas pengar. Just nu är hon aktuell med boken My Life in Pictures.
