Giappone Spettinato è il format più informale di Giappone nel Mondo: una chiacchierata registrata in macchina, senza scaletta né schermi, per il tempo di un tragitto in auto.Oggi parto da una notizia che ha fatto discutere il mondo videoludico e quello di cinema, serie tv e anime: Sony ha annunciato che entro il 2028 smetterà di produrre dischi fisici per i giochi PlayStation. È solo l'ultimo tassello di un abbandono generale del supporto fisico, spinto dalle piattaforme di streaming, che ormai comprano sempre meno dischi e ci hanno abituati a un possesso solo apparente: alcuni utenti che avevano "acquistato" dei film si sono visti sparire quei titoli dal catalogo quando i diritti con un certo distributore sono scaduti.Racconto anche cosa vedo qui a Wellington, dove il mercato fisico resiste più che in Europa: in un negozio dell'usato vicino a casa ho trovato due cofanetti di Patlabor, due film che oggi in streaming non si trovano da nessuna parte fuori dal Giappone per una storia di diritti mai più rimessi in ordine. Dentro quei cofanetti c'è tutto quello che lo streaming ha smesso di darci: libretti, storyboard, contenuti speciali, lo stesso tipo di extra che da ragazzino trovavo nelle VHS di Patlabor targate Yamato Video.Chiudo con una domanda che mi porto dietro da un po': in un mondo che sovrapproduce e si riempie di gadget e action figure mentre il valore si sposta dal contenuto al contenitore, ha ancora senso il collezionismo sfrenato che vediamo anche alle fiere del fumetto, o stiamo solo rincorrendo oggetti per riempire le case? Niente scaletta, niente schermi, niente intelligenza artificiale, niente dati letti al volo. Dura quanto dura il viaggio.In questa prima puntata parlo di overtourism, e lo faccio partendo da un podcast che seguo e che stimo, Parliamo di Asia di Marco Battocchia, e da una puntata con cui non mi sono trovato in sintonia. Non attacco nessuno: porto il mio punto di vista, per intero.La tesi è semplice: l'overtourism non nasce dagli influencer. La parte social esiste, ma è solo uno dei fattori. Gli altri due pesano molto di più.Il fattore politico: dopo la pandemia le campagne di promozione del territorio sono ripartite gonfie, per rimettere in moto economie ferme da anni, ma senza costruire le infrastrutture capaci di reggere quel flusso. Si sono invitate cinquantamila persone alla festa comprando i bicchieri per diecimila.Il fattore economico: la prenotazione a portata di click, l'esplosione degli affitti brevi e degli appartamenti convertiti in alloggi turistici, e il crollo del costo dei voli. Barcellona è il caso limite: entro novembre 2028 il Comune revocherà le licenze dei circa diecimila appartamenti turistici autorizzati, per riportare quelle case sul mercato residenziale.E poi c'è la differenza tra turismo che lascia qualcosa sul territorio e turismo che non lascia niente, come quello crocieristico: masse enormi che scendono, non dormono, mangiano a bordo e comprano quasi solo dove le portano le guide.Nel finale, una difesa dei canali medio piccoli: chi racconta il Giappone su YouTube e Instagram per passione, chi porta interviste e storie fuori dai circuiti, chi passa ore a montare video che noi ci guardiamo comodamente da casa. Farnaz Fatemi and Samyak Shertok discuss Shertok's book, No Rhododendron, selected by Kimiko Hahn as winner of the 2024 AWP Donald Hall Prize for Poetry. Shertok offers profound and poignant insights in an exploration of the rich invented forms he uses in his debut collection. They discuss the horse-ghosts and other ghosts on the cover, in the book, and in the poet's life. The poet takes a closer look at what he calls "syntactical dismemberment and rememberment" found in his poems about loss and about multiple tongues. Join in for a rich conversation with this stunning poet. Samyak's book was shortlisted for the 2026 PEN Open Book Award. His poems appear in The Cincinnati Review, The Gettysburg Review, The Iowa Review, The Kenyon Review, POETRY, Shenandoah, Waxwing, Best New Poets, and elsewhere. A finalist for the National Poetry Series, the Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize, and the Jake Adam York Prize, he has received fellowships from Aspen Words, the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Originally from Nepal, he is an Assistant Professor of English at Mississippi State University.

Bios: One of the most influential cultural figures of Iran in the latter half of the twentieth century, Ahmad Shamlou (1925–2000) authored more than 70 books, including 18 volumes of poetry. Sometimes known by his pen name, Alef Bamdad, Shamlou's innovations brought on a transition from classical forms to free verse and made him a flag-bearer of the Iranian vanguard, which included the poet Forough Farrokhzad. Shamlou's synthesis of Eastern and Western poetic traditions and high and low styles democratized the literary mode without simplifying it. Championing the “everyman,” Shamlou's work reflects his deep engagement with social issues and the human condition.Niloufar Talebi is an author, educator, producer, and multidisciplinary storyteller whose work spans literature, opera, performance, and cultural translation. Her practice is rooted in reinvention—transforming language and lived experience into art that awakens, stirs, and liberates. Niloufar is the editor and translator of Elegies of the Earth: Selected Poems by Ahmad Shamlou (World Poetry, 2025), a sweeping centennial edition of Iran's iconic twentieth-century poet of liberty, whose work shaped modern Persian poetry. Her memoir Self-Portrait in Bloom (l'Aleph, 2019), praised as “a hybrid wonder” (The Rumpus), combines personal narrative with her award-winning translations of Nobel Prize–nominated Iranian poet Ahmad Shamlou. The book inspired the acclaimed opera Abraham in Flames (2019), which she commissioned, produced, presented, and co-created in collaboration with composer Aleksandra Vrebalov and director Roy Rallo.

Lee Herrick⁠ in conversation with Farnaz Fatemi. Lee Herrick⁠  is the California Poet Laureate. He is the author of three books of poems: Scar and Flower, finalist for the 2020 Northern California Book Award; Gardening Secrets of the Dead; and This Many Miles from Desire. His poems appear widely, in The Poetry Foundation, Academy of American Poets, The Place That Inhabits Us: Poems from the San Francisco Bay Watershed, Indivisible: Poems of Social Justice with a foreword by Common, HERE: Poems for the Planet, with a foreword by the Dalai Lama, and Dear America: Letters of Hope, Habitat, Defiance, and Democracy, among others. Herrick serves on the advisory board of Terrain.org and Sixteen Rivers Press. He co-founded LitHop in Fresno. Born in Daejeon, Korea and adopted as an infant, Herrick lives with his family in Fresno, California. He served as Fresno Poet Laureate from 2015-2017 and teaches at Fresno City College and in the low-residency MFA program at University of Nevada Reno at Lake Tahoe. Oggi: È lecito pagare Cesare?15 Allora i farisei si riunirono per trovare il modo di intrappolare Gesù, facendogli dire qualcosa di compromettente, tanto da poterlo arrestare. 16 Decisero di mandare alcuni dei loro uomini insieme con gli Erodiani a porgli questa domanda: «Signore, sappiamo che tu sei molto onesto, insegni la volontà di Dio e non ti preoccupi di ciò che pensa la gente, perché non guardi in faccia nessuno. 17 Dicci ora, è giusto o no pagare le tasse al governo romano?»18 Ma Gesù capì a che cosa miravano.«Ipocriti!» esclamò, «chi volete ingannare con le vostre domande? 19 Fatemi vedere una moneta». Gli diedero un denaro romano. E Gesù domandò: 20 «Di chi è questa effigie? E di chi è il nome sotto lʼeffigie?»21 «Di Cesare», risposero. «Bene, allora», disse Gesù, «datelo a Cesare, se è di Cesare, ma date a Dio tutto ciò che è di Dio!»22 A questa risposta rimasero sorpresi e confusi, e se ne andarono via.23 Quello stesso giorno, alcuni dei Sadducei (che dicevano che non cʼè risurrezione dopo la morte), vennero a porgli unʼaltra domanda:24 «Signore, Mosè disse che se un uomo muore senza figli, suo fratello deve sposarne la vedova, e il primo figlio che verrà erediterà il nome e la proprietà del morto. 25 Ebbene, vʼera fra di noi una famiglia di sette fratelli. Il primo si sposò, poi morì senza figli, così la vedova divenne moglie del secondo fratello. 26 Però anche questi morì senza figli, quindi la moglie passò al fratello successivo, e così via, finché non fu moglie di ognuno di loro. 27 Alla fine anchʼella morì. 28 Ti chiediamo allora: alla risurrezione, di chi sarà moglie quella donna, poiché è stata moglie di tutti e sette?!»29 Gesù rispose: «Voi sbagliate, perché non conoscete le Scritture, né la potenza di Dio. 30 Perché alla risurrezione non cʼè matrimonio; sia gli uomini che le donne sono tutti come gli angeli del cielo. 31 E in quanto ad esserci o meno la risurrezione dalla morte, non avete mai letto le Scritture? Non vi rendete conto che Dio parlava per voi, quando disse:32 “Io sono il Dio di Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe”? Perché Dio non è il Dio dei morti, ma dei vivi!»33 La folla rimase profondamente colpita dalle sue risposte, 34-35 ma non i Farisei. Quando videro che con quelle parole aveva chiuso la bocca ai Sadducei, escogitarono una nuova domanda da fargli.Support the show
