I always wanted to be able to do that. My breathing is better and I have more energy. It's a wonderful state of being to have that sense of well-being and peace. Thoughts on Breathing Breathing is so very important. I've learned to listen to different music and sounds that have helped facilitate that. I have been able to get into that rhythm and to lower the beats per minute that my heart pumps. A lot of times, if we could just stop and breathe, then everything else would change, the whole atmosphere would change. The situation may not change but we would change in the situation, if we would just stop and breathe. When I went to elementary school was when they desegregated the school system. I remember very clearly how my aunt was a school teacher and worked in one of the best schools in Pensacola and she brought me and my brother along with her so that we could be a part of that education. I remember being pinched and called names as a kindergartener. If the teachers had been practicing mindfulness it would have made a big difference. They would have been able to have deescalated some of the rhetoric and then I would know that I would have had someone to talk to. On this special Thanksgiving Think Hope Podcast, Dr. Rosalind Tompkins and her guests share how giving thanks brings hope no matter what you are going through. She also shares how to give thanks and unleash hope to move forward in life. Hope has been said to be pregnant expectancy. In Hebrews 11:1, the Bible states, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (KJV). It is so important to hope until you cannot have faith without it. Hope will give you a reason to get up in the morning and continue to press on. Hope will give you a reason not to give up and to try again even after you fail. Hope will heal your disappointments and cover your failures because with hope, there is always tomorrow. Hope speaks to your future while in the midst of your today, and hope will propel you into your tomorrow's destiny. Even in the midst of trouble, hope can be your way out. In the Book of Hosea 2:15, the Bible states, And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt” (KJV). The expression valley of Achor became proverbial for that which caused trouble. The valley of Achor for a door of hope; i.e., trouble would be turned into joy, and despair into hope. When we sing and give thanks even in the midst of our trouble, God will turn trouble into joy, but you must access it through the door of hope. Thanksgiving allows you walk through the door of hope, and come into the place of trust and faith in God to know that He has you in the palm of His hands and that trouble won’t last always. Dr. Rosalind Tompkins shares how thinking hope helped her and others to survive the deadly Category 4 Hurricane Michael that hit the Panhandle of Florida on October 10, 2018. There were at least 26 people killed during this mammoth hurricane. "When I heard about Hurricane Michael heading our way, I had just come from a week on the beach (St. George Island) celebrating by birthday and the first thing I thought was, "Thank God it wasn’t last week." My next thought was, "Oh boy here we go again!" As we listened and prepared for the worst, I couldn’t help thinking the best and even though we were doing everything to prepare; getting water, food, batteries, checking on family and congregants, making sure everybody was okay, I just kept thinking, "It’s going to be alright." "We are going to make it through."
