pWotD Episode 2818: Amanda Knox Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 237,656 views on Saturday, 18 January 2025 our article of the day is Amanda Knox.Amanda Marie Knox (born July 9, 1987) is an American author, activist, and journalist. She spent almost four years incarcerated in Italy after her wrongful conviction in the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, a fellow exchange student, with whom she shared an apartment in Perugia. In 2015, Knox was definitively acquitted by the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation. In 2024, an Italian appellate court upheld Amanda Knox's slander conviction for falsely accusing Patrick Lumumba of murdering Meredith Kercher.Knox, aged 20 at the time of the murder, called the police after returning to her and Kercher's apartment after a night spent with her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, and finding Kercher's bedroom door locked and blood in the bathroom. During the police interrogations that followed, the conduct of which is a matter of dispute, Knox allegedly implicated herself and her employer, Patrick Lumumba, in the murder. Initially, Knox, Sollecito, and Lumumba were all arrested for Kercher's murder, but Lumumba was soon released because he had a strong alibi. A known burglar, Rudy Guede, was soon arrested, after his bloody fingerprints were found on Kercher's possessions. He was convicted of murder in a fast-track trial and was sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment, later reduced to 16 years. In December 2020, an Italian court ruled that Guede could complete his term by doing community service. In their initial trial, in 2009, Knox and Sollecito were convicted and sentenced to 26 and 25 years in prison, respectively. Pre-trial publicity in Italian media, which was repeated by other media worldwide, portrayed Knox in a negative light, leading to complaints that the prosecution was using character assassination. A guilty verdict at Knox's initial trial and her 26-year sentence caused international controversy, because American forensic experts thought evidence at the crime scene was incompatible with her involvement. A prolonged legal process, including a successful prosecution appeal against her acquittal at a second-level trial, continued after Knox was freed in 2011. On March 27, 2015, Italy's highest court definitively exonerated Knox and Sollecito. However, Knox's conviction for committing defamation against Lumumba was upheld by all courts. On January 14, 2016, Knox was acquitted of defamation for saying she had been struck by policewomen during the interrogation.Knox later became an author, an activist, and a journalist. Her memoir, Waiting to Be Heard, became a best seller. In 2018, she began hosting The Scarlet Letter Reports, a television series, which examined the "gendered nature of public shaming".This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 03:03 UTC on Sunday, 19 January 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Amanda Knox on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Nicole.

Idiots On Parade, the Too Ugly for TV Podcast

This week, Anthony Eugenio joins the idiots to mock all that's in the news. 00:00 Welcome! 01:06 Iran Gets Frisky 11:33 Christians vs. The Eclipse 17:13 Justice by Crime and Country 25:15 Catholics Double Down  30:17 Obesity in America The breakdown:  —Hamas attacks Israel. Israel whomps the unholy hell out of the Gaza Strip. Iran thinks that's no bueno, arms Hezbollah. Israel says, “Oh, F-you,” and bombs the Iranian Embassy in Syria, killing one of Iran's biggest douchebags, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and other Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders… and now, Iran has launched a drone attack on Israel. What's next? I suppose that's what we're about to find out… —I wish, I wish, I wish I could find a legitimate source for this next story. According to Reddit—noted home of QAnon and various other wonderful conspiracies—a Christian woman who believed the eclipse was a sign the rapture was upon us, went to a restaurant and tipped generously. And not “50%” generously, several hundred dollars on a $40 bill generous. Aaaaaand, when the rapture didn't happen, again, she went returned and demanded her money back. Because of course she did. —Italy: come for the pasta, stay for the murder. Amanda Knox was in the news again, so nathan did a little digging… Did you know that Rudy Guede, the man who actually murdered Meredith Kercher, only got a 30-year prison sentence? Even better, he was released early, to finish his sentence doing community service. Seems they're kinda light on crime there. Meanwhile, over in Vietnam, Truong My Lan was sentenced to death for a white collar crime. Man, God bless Vietnam! Imagine if the U.S.A. had put to death all the douchenozzles behind the economic collapse in 2008? (Or, for that matter, any economic collapse.) —Oh, Catholicism… your numbers are shrinking, and every time people are asked why they've left the church, they say, “It's 2024. People are gay. Get over it.” So, what did the church just do? Double down on their anti-LGBTQ rhetoric.  But wait, there's more! They've added surrogacy to the list! Yes, if there's one thing women love, it's being told what they can and cannot do with their bodies. —TikTok: it's where stupid people go to “learn.” Well, anti-diet influencers started telling people to listen to their gut when it came to diet. Eat right and exercise? That's for losers. Your body will tell you what you're supposed to eat, and if it's telling you candy bars and donuts? More power to ya! Oh, and by the way, the food industry is backing these influencers, and you're gonna gain weight and get fat if you listen to them. Who could have seen this coming? In 2007, British college student Meredith Kercher was raped and brutally murdered (stabbed 47 times) by Rudy Guede in Perugia, Italy where she was studying on an exchange program. Though this case made international headlines, very few people recognize the name of the victim and even fewer know the name of her killer. Rudy Guede who received a shockingly reduced sentence for this horrific crime, was allowed lenient furloughs during his incarceration, and was paroled three years ago after only serving thirteen years. Recently there are new allegations of rape and assault against him made by his 23 year old girlfriend. While the case is under investigation, Guede is fettered only by a restraining order and not under house arrest nor any other monitoring despite his violent history. Why has he time after time been given so many indulgences? While many may not recall Meredith Kercher's name nor Rudy Guede's there is one name everyone recognizes for all the wrong reasons in connection with this case and that name is Amanda Knox. Amanda, who happened to be one of Meredith's roommates at the time of her death, was wrongfully convicted of her killing. Though eventually exonerated after serving four years in an Italian prison, the white hot spotlight of attention both from the Italian police, the media and the public have followed Amanda since her release. Amanda has always worried that Guede (who maintains he is innocent) would hurt another woman once he finished out his sentence. Has her prediction come true? Join us for this discussion. In the next chapter of the Compendium: An Assembly of Fascinating and Intriguing Things, we delve deeper into part two of our Amanda Knox and Meredith Kercher saga, journeying through the tumultuous aftermath of her initial confession and her life behind bars. We also introduce a new pivotal figure: Rudy Guede. As we unfold the layers of Rudy's background and involvement, you'll come to understand the intricacies and twists that the case took thereafter. The winding journey from trials to acquittals, from appeals to verdict reversals, is a testament to the complexities of the Italian justice system. As we navigate through these legal mazes, we'll shed light on a system marked by discrepancies and the influence of media sensationalism, which arguably turned the quest for justice into something much darker — a modern-day witchhunt.Throughout this episode, we tap into the insights of legal experts, criminal psychologists, and seasoned journalists, painting a comprehensive picture of the multifaceted proceedings that followed Meredith's tragic end.Central to our exploration is the media's relentless role in this saga. Their often sensationalist coverage not only shaped public perception but, at times, seemed to influence the proceedings themselves. This begs the question: how much did the media circus impact the trajectory of justice? We give you the Compendium, but if you want more, here are some excellent resources to dive deeper:"Waiting to Be Heard" by Amanda Knox"Amanda Knox" on Netflix"Honor Bound: My Journey to Hell and Back with Amanda Knox" by Raffaele Sollecito"Meredith: Our Daughter's Murder and the Heartbreaking Quest for the Truth" by John KercherSupport the showConnect with Us:

Meredith Kercher was a young exchange student from London, who was studying abroad in Italy. She had a lot to look forward to in life. All that changed on the night of November 1, 2007. Meredith's bedroom door was locked and her roommates tried to knock with no avail. Eventually, the door was kicked down after one roommate found both of Meredith's phones in a nearby garden, something that wasn't normal. They discovered Meredith's nude body, wrapped in a blanket on her bedroom floor. She had been stabbed and it was later discovered that she had been sexually assaulted. Before the discovery of her body, Meredith's roommates unintentionally moved things around in the apartment and contaminated the crime scene. Almost immediately, investigators pointed the finger at Meredith's American roommate. Her name was Amanda Knox. Amanda, her boyfriend, and a man named Rudy Guede were arrested and charged with Meredith's murder. Rudy Guede, who had a history of break ins and was infatuated with knives, stated that Amanda wasn't there at the crime scene. He then changed his story and said Amanda was there and she stabbed Meredith. All three were convicted in 2011. In the appeal case, it was concluded that evidence from the crime scene was mishandled and had no trace of DNA from Amanda or her boyfriend. Rudy's DNA was the only one found. This was ignored during the original trials. In 2015, Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend were acquitted of murder. In 2021, Rudy Guede was released from an Italian prison. It is believed that he acted alone.

What do you think you know about Amanda Knox? Do you think she was a sex-crazed party girl who got away with the murder of Meredith Kercher in Italy in 2007? That's what I thought before I dug into the research for this episode. I do not think that anymore. The case against her is the sloppiest murder trial I've ever looked into. Outlandish investigative bias, ridiculous crime lab mistakes, and a court system where jurors are allowed to be influenced by the media during the trial. And in this case, the media was mostly tabloids. And the tabloids - fed nonsense by the prosecutor in Knox's case - continually printed completely fabricated and slanderous theories about Amanda. The court of public opinion convicted her of Meredith's murder and forever tarnished her reputation... but did she have ANYTHING to do with her roommate's death? Was she even sex-crazed? Did the media and the Italian legal system get ANYTHING right about her in her first trial? We have a wild one this week. After four years in prison, she was exonerated by Italy's highest court - but continues to be treated as a source of profit by the media and attacked online. In this in-depth interview, Amanda reflects on the devastating impact of those events and her efforts to build a new life; attacks a media “overwhelmed with sensationalism” which “wanted her to be guilty,” in spite of the facts - declining to focus on the actual murderer Rudy Guede, and continuing to push the profitable ‘Foxy Knoxy' construct; and shares her frustration at Hollywood's indifference to their damage - with new movie ‘Stillwater' featuring a fictional character, clearly based on her, but with a so-called ‘twist' that she was indeed the murderer.

Welcome to The Psychology Podcast! In this episode, I talk to Amanda Knox about her wrongful conviction for the murder of Meredith Kercher. Her experience revealed dark truths about the media's inclination to over sensationalize stories about young women and the glaring human errors in the criminal justice system. We also touch on the topics of trauma, cancel culture, cognitive biases, law, and forensic science. Throughout this episode, I try my best to show the audience the real Amanda Knox, not the version of her that the media has depicted. Along those lines, I give her some of my psychological tests to take, including my test on self-actualization as well as my psychopath test! You won't want to miss this episode.BioAmanda Knox is a journalist, public speaker, and podcaster. From 2007 to 2015, she spent nearly four years in an Italian prison and eight years on trial for a murder she didn't commit. The controversy over Amanda's case made international headlines for nearly a decade and thrust her into the spotlight, where she was vilified and shamed, a story told in the 2016 Emmy-nominated Netflix documentary and her New York Times best-selling memoir, Waiting to Be Heard. She now works to shed light on the issues of wrongful conviction, criminal justice reform, truth-seeking, and public shaming, and to inspire people towards empathy and perspective. Website: www.amandaknox.comTwitter: @amandaknox Topics00:00:37 Amanda's pregnancy and privacy00:02:14 Stories don't equate to reality00:06:05 Self-talk as a coping strategy00:08:51 The true origin of the “Foxy Knoxy” nickname00:11:05 The intrigue and aversion towards female sexuality00:18:45 The arrest of Rudy Guede 00:20:50 Amanda before the tragedy00:23:37 The infamous kiss between Amanda and Raffaele 00:26:42 Why do people love scandals?00:30:26 The misrepresentation of BDSM 00:33:05 Amanda's sources of self-actualization00:42:30 Amanda's Light Triad Score00:45:38 Moral Luck00:49:05 Amanda's Dark Triad Score00:51:55 Vulnerable narcissism, imposter syndrome, and healing00:58:42 The “single victim fallacy”01:01:29 Innocence puts innocents at risk01:04:45 The psychology of prosecutor Giuliano Mignini01:08:56 Itiel Dror's critique of forensic science01:15:24 Amanda's post-traumatic growth

What is the truth behind the conviction and subsequent exoneration of Amanda Knox for the Murder of Meredith Kercher?Welcome to Solvable Mysteries Podcast, hosted by Juras Sim and co-hosted by Glenn Highcove. In this episode we discuss the famous and controversial case of Amanda Knox, who was accused with her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, of killing Amanda's roommate. Knox's roommate, Meredith Kercher, was found locked in her room, with the rest of the apartment in disarray, and blood in different rooms. Later analysis would trace much of the DNA evidence to Rudy Guede, a known burglar and casual acquaintance of Knox and her neighbors, but also someone they did not know well. The subsequent investigation and trial was filled with controversy and irregularities, with the prosecution and investigation team positing wild theories on what happened to Meredith, concluding that she was killed in a strange love triangle/encounter gone wrong. We discuss the many strange and questionable tactics the police took during this investigation and trial, the apparent violation of Amanda and Sollecito's rights and privacy, as well as the strange behavior of Amanda Knox during the entire period before, during and after her conviction. We also review the latest Amanda Knox developments, including her subsequent appeal, exoneration, re-conviction, and final exoneration by the Italian justice system. In this special episode Kate asks a medium to discuss the unsolved mysteries of the disappearance of Jennifer Kesse, the death of actress Brittany Murphy, whether Amanda Knox was involved in the death of her Italian roommate Meredith Kercher, and what really happened on July 18, 1969 on Chappaquiddick Island. Jennifer Joyce Kesse lived in Orlando, Florida and has been missing since January 24, 2006. Her disappearance puzzled investigators and an aggressive search for her was conducted in the area surrounding her home. Shortly after her disappearance, her car was discovered a little over a mile from her home at a nearby apartment complex. No evidence was ever made known with regards to her, such as finger prints, DNA or cellphone location information from nearby towers. Captured footage from a nearby security camera showed an unidentified person parking Kesse's car before walking away. The case received widespread state and national press attention at the time of her disappearance.Brittany Murphy was an American actress and singer. A native of Atlanta, Murphy moved to Los Angeles as a teenager and pursued a career in acting. Her breakthrough role was as Tai Frasier in Clueless (1995), followed by supporting roles in independent films such as Freeway (1996) and Bongwater (1998). In December 2009, Murphy died of pneumonia at the age of 32. Meredith Kercher was a British student on exchange from the University of Leeds who was murdered at the age of 21 in Perugia, Italy, on 1 November 2007. Kercher was found dead on the floor of her bedroom. By the time the bloodstained fingerprints at the scene were identified as belonging to Rudy Guede, police had charged Kercher's American flatmate, Amanda Knox, and Knox's Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. The subsequent prosecutions of Knox and Sollecito received international publicity. The Chappaquiddick incident was a single-vehicle car accident that occurred on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts, on Friday, July 18, 1969. The late night accident was caused by Senator Ted Kennedy’s negligence, and resulted in the death of his 28-year-old passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, who was trapped inside the vehicle.Reality Life with Kate Casey http://www.loveandknuckles.comTwitter: @katecaseyInstagram: @katecaseycaFacebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245/Facebook.com/loveandknucklesAmazon List: http://www.amazon.com/shop/katecaseycaSUAVEhttp://www.suave.comBOMBAShttp://www.bombas.com/realityPROMO CODE: REALITYKOPARIwww.kopari.com/reality See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

TRUE CRIME - On this episode of Those Conspiracy Guys we discuss the still mysterious case of the murder of Meredith Kircher, more famously known as the Amanda Knox case. Knox and her boyfriend Raphael Sollecito were arrested for the murder of Kircher in 2007 and spent 4 years in jail until their case was unprecidentedly thrown out and they were set free.Kircher was brutally murdered in the home she and Knox shared in a small Italian town called Perugia. They were both on a study abroad trip and Knox and Kircher only knew each other for a couple of days. Knox also only knew her then lover Sollecito for a couple of weeks and made the case all the more mysterious. A man called Rudy Guede, a known burglar, was also arrested for the crime as well as Patrick Lumumba, Knox's boss in her waitressing job. The police incompetence in this case was astounding and the real killer could still be on the loose. Many think Knox and Sollecito were guilty and the legal system in Italy was torn apart with the release of the two in 2011. The case went to the Supreme Court and the appeal fell in Knox's favour but not after her and Sollecito's lives were ruined by salacious tabloid press. The facts in this one are very much left to interpretation and Claire and I discuss at length the intricacies of the case; the suppositions made by the prosecution including the public prosecutor who thought he was some sort of rock star, Guiliano Mignini. We also discuss the role of the tabloid media in the case and how they swayed the public to presume guilt.
