pWotD Episode 2818: Amanda Knox Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 237,656 views on Saturday, 18 January 2025 our article of the day is Amanda Knox.Amanda Marie Knox (born July 9, 1987) is an American author, activist, and journalist. She spent almost four years incarcerated in Italy after her wrongful conviction in the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, a fellow exchange student, with whom she shared an apartment in Perugia. In 2015, Knox was definitively acquitted by the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation. In 2024, an Italian appellate court upheld Amanda Knox's slander conviction for falsely accusing Patrick Lumumba of murdering Meredith Kercher.Knox, aged 20 at the time of the murder, called the police after returning to her and Kercher's apartment after a night spent with her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, and finding Kercher's bedroom door locked and blood in the bathroom. During the police interrogations that followed, the conduct of which is a matter of dispute, Knox allegedly implicated herself and her employer, Patrick Lumumba, in the murder. Initially, Knox, Sollecito, and Lumumba were all arrested for Kercher's murder, but Lumumba was soon released because he had a strong alibi. A known burglar, Rudy Guede, was soon arrested, after his bloody fingerprints were found on Kercher's possessions. He was convicted of murder in a fast-track trial and was sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment, later reduced to 16 years. In December 2020, an Italian court ruled that Guede could complete his term by doing community service. In their initial trial, in 2009, Knox and Sollecito were convicted and sentenced to 26 and 25 years in prison, respectively. Pre-trial publicity in Italian media, which was repeated by other media worldwide, portrayed Knox in a negative light, leading to complaints that the prosecution was using character assassination. A guilty verdict at Knox's initial trial and her 26-year sentence caused international controversy, because American forensic experts thought evidence at the crime scene was incompatible with her involvement. A prolonged legal process, including a successful prosecution appeal against her acquittal at a second-level trial, continued after Knox was freed in 2011. On March 27, 2015, Italy's highest court definitively exonerated Knox and Sollecito. However, Knox's conviction for committing defamation against Lumumba was upheld by all courts. On January 14, 2016, Knox was acquitted of defamation for saying she had been struck by policewomen during the interrogation.Knox later became an author, an activist, and a journalist. Her memoir, Waiting to Be Heard, became a best seller. In 2018, she began hosting The Scarlet Letter Reports, a television series, which examined the "gendered nature of public shaming".This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 03:03 UTC on Sunday, 19 January 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Amanda Knox on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Nicole.

#amandaknox #perugia #meredithkercher #raffaelesollecito #monicalewinski #bluemoon #delittodiperugia #hulu #bluemoonseries #amandaknoxseries #serietvdelittodiperugia #jacopopezzan #giacomobrunoro #rudyguede #truecrime #truecrimediaries
The Compendium Podcast: An Assembly of Fascinating and Intriguing Things
In the next chapter of the Compendium: An Assembly of Fascinating and Intriguing Things, we delve deeper into part two of our Amanda Knox and Meredith Kercher saga, journeying through the tumultuous aftermath of her initial confession and her life behind bars. We also introduce a new pivotal figure: Rudy Guede. As we unfold the layers of Rudy's background and involvement, you'll come to understand the intricacies and twists that the case took thereafter. The winding journey from trials to acquittals, from appeals to verdict reversals, is a testament to the complexities of the Italian justice system. As we navigate through these legal mazes, we'll shed light on a system marked by discrepancies and the influence of media sensationalism, which arguably turned the quest for justice into something much darker — a modern-day witchhunt.Throughout this episode, we tap into the insights of legal experts, criminal psychologists, and seasoned journalists, painting a comprehensive picture of the multifaceted proceedings that followed Meredith's tragic end.Central to our exploration is the media's relentless role in this saga. Their often sensationalist coverage not only shaped public perception but, at times, seemed to influence the proceedings themselves. This begs the question: how much did the media circus impact the trajectory of justice? We give you the Compendium, but if you want more, here are some excellent resources to dive deeper:"Waiting to Be Heard" by Amanda Knox"Amanda Knox" on Netflix"Honor Bound: My Journey to Hell and Back with Amanda Knox" by Raffaele Sollecito"Meredith: Our Daughter's Murder and the Heartbreaking Quest for the Truth" by John KercherSupport the showConnect with Us:

On November 1, 2007, Meredith Kercher found herself home alone. Her roommates had gone off with friends or family for the night and her downstairs neighbours were taking a long weekend away. On this night, someone entered Meredith's flat in Perugia, Italy, and committed heinous acts which ultimately ended Meredith's life. One of Meredith's roommates, Amanda Knox, who was studying abroad found herself to be the primary suspect in Meredith's death. Her boyfriend of just 10 days found himself in the same predicament. Over the next four years, both Amanda and Rafael were tried and convicted of this crime, not once but twice! However, they were both exonerated and a new suspect was arrested and convicted in Meredith's murder.Listen to new episodes every Thursday wherever you get your podcasts! What do you think you know about Amanda Knox? Do you think she was a sex-crazed party girl who got away with the murder of Meredith Kercher in Italy in 2007? That's what I thought before I dug into the research for this episode. I do not think that anymore. The case against her is the sloppiest murder trial I've ever looked into. Outlandish investigative bias, ridiculous crime lab mistakes, and a court system where jurors are allowed to be influenced by the media during the trial. And in this case, the media was mostly tabloids. And the tabloids - fed nonsense by the prosecutor in Knox's case - continually printed completely fabricated and slanderous theories about Amanda. The court of public opinion convicted her of Meredith's murder and forever tarnished her reputation... but did she have ANYTHING to do with her roommate's death? Was she even sex-crazed? Did the media and the Italian legal system get ANYTHING right about her in her first trial? We have a wild one this week. Enjoy! Wet Hot Bad Magic Summer Camps coming up quick! On Nov. 2, 2007, 21-year-old British exchange student Meredith Kercher was found dead on the floor of her bedroom in Perugia, Italy, partially clothed with her throat cut. The first suspects in the case were her roommate Amanda Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. The investigation though was riddled with mistakes, forced confessions, unsubstantiated evidence, and a massive neglect of evidence pointing to the real perpetrator. http://podbelly.com http://retrovague.com http://robotsforeyespodcast.com
This episode originally aired on November 2nd, 2021. ***Fourteen years ago – yesterday in fact, on November 1st, 2007 – British exchange student Meredith Kercher was murdered in Perugia, Italy. She was just 21 years old. The truth about what happened that night isn't hard to source, despite the hash of misinformation, prejudice and sloppy policework that began being assembled the very moment police were called to the murder scene. What happened to Meredith Kercher is a tragedy. To her loved ones she will be forever missed. But this isn't a podcast about Meredith. This isn't a true crime podcast, though that's unquestionably territory within which this podcast's subject matter resides. This is a podcast about shame. And this episode is about Amanda Knox. You know Amanda Knox – or at least you think you do. You probably have an opinion on her, the court of public opinion is vast and far reaching. Seattle born Amanda was also an exchange student. She was Meredith's roommate at the time of the murder. Amanda and then boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted of the murder. She spent four years in prison. She got a retrial and was released. There was another trial. She was found guilty once more. Then, on March 27th, 2015, both Amanda and Raffaele were definitively equited of their role in the murder. The court report stated that there were 'sensational failures' in the investigation, and that the lower court had been guilty of 'culpable omissions' in ignoring expert testimony that demonstrated contamination of evidence. If you'd like to know more about the case, the Netflix documentary Amanda Knox and Amanda's recent interview with Joe Rogan come much recommended. But right now, let's talk about shame. What happens when you're cast as a character you don't know the lines of, in a life that's a play not of your direction? What happens when you walk into a room and hear whispers? Where strangers on the internet think they know more than a court of law? What happens when you're given a name, it's doused in oil and mud. How do you reclaim it? Can you? This podcast, since it's very beginning, has largely hung around one central premise - can you escape shame? Talking to Amanda, I think maybe we can. My name is James McMahon. And episode 9 of Shame is my conversation with Amanda Knox.Shame is a Spoook Media production. Spoook is also a record label, a promoter, a shop, a Substack - it's many things. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter. There are three victims in this story, one who was murdered and two are victims of assumption as well as the media. On November 1, 2007, the body of Meredith Kercher was discovered in her bedroom. The authorities pointed their finger at her roommate, Amanda Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito who were comforting each other outside while crime scene investigators were inside. Why did the CSI ignore the fingerprints and DNA and focus all their attention on the young couple instead of finding the real killer who had snapped? Why did the media print so many falsehoods? On this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we cover the true crime roller coaster that was the trial of Amanda Knox. She and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were arrested for the murder of Meredith Kercher. This case it had it all. Promiscuous college students, rough Italian cops, bar hopping, Americans, Brits, and an international cast of characters. The case gets crazy as they two get convicted, released, and then arrested and convicted again due to crazy loopholes in Italian law. Amanda Knox was born in Seattle and was a normal child and a good college student. Since childhood, she had a love of Italy, and she got a chance to study abroad while she was getting a degree in linguistics. She moved to Perugia, Italy, to finish her studies. Perugia is a small town known for its colleges (and college students) as well as some pretty crazy murder cases. Amanda Knox was not the only wild murder in town. There was a case there of an Italian Prime minister allegedly murdering a journalist and another case of a band of Satanic Masonic serial killers! In Perugia, Amanda found a flat with several roommates. One was Kercher. Knox got a job at a local bar and eventually started a relationship with Sollecito. She stayed the night at his place, and on the morning of November 1st 2007, Knox found Kercher’s door locked but there was blood, and she wasn’t answering her phone. The cops came, and according to Knox were immediately hostile toward her. Plus, they were postal police, which apparently is a thing in Italy, and had no real business putting together a murder case. Either way, the trial was wild. They got convicted, even though they had leads on a better suspect. Then, the case was overturned, and they were acquitted. Once Knox was back in Seattle, however, the Italian court called the case back on, and she was being tried all over again in a horrible Italian justice yoyo. So, how did the case ultimately end up? Who did they finally claim the murderer was? What happened to him? How much time did Knox spend in prison? Why did she get in a twitter war over the US presidential election? What motivated her to try to help the founder of the sex cult NXIVM to get out of jail? Listen, laugh, learn. What is the truth behind the conviction and subsequent exoneration of Amanda Knox for the Murder of Meredith Kercher?Welcome to Solvable Mysteries Podcast, hosted by Juras Sim and co-hosted by Glenn Highcove. In this episode we discuss the famous and controversial case of Amanda Knox, who was accused with her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, of killing Amanda's roommate. Knox's roommate, Meredith Kercher, was found locked in her room, with the rest of the apartment in disarray, and blood in different rooms. Later analysis would trace much of the DNA evidence to Rudy Guede, a known burglar and casual acquaintance of Knox and her neighbors, but also someone they did not know well. The subsequent investigation and trial was filled with controversy and irregularities, with the prosecution and investigation team positing wild theories on what happened to Meredith, concluding that she was killed in a strange love triangle/encounter gone wrong. We discuss the many strange and questionable tactics the police took during this investigation and trial, the apparent violation of Amanda and Sollecito's rights and privacy, as well as the strange behavior of Amanda Knox during the entire period before, during and after her conviction. We also review the latest Amanda Knox developments, including her subsequent appeal, exoneration, re-conviction, and final exoneration by the Italian justice system. We think you will find this episode a Solvable Mystery to remember. We hope you enjoyed the show, we greatly appreciate any feedback from our listeners, please share your thoughts in the comment section. Amanda Knox (@amandaknox) is an exoneree, journalist, public speaker, and author of Waiting to Be Heard. She was the host of The Scarlet Letter Reports and currently co-hosts The Truth About True Crime podcast. What We Discuss with Amanda Knox: How Amanda was coerced into wrongfully confessing that she was at the scene of her roommate's murder without being made aware of her rights or being given access to a lawyer. Why not understanding the difference between being questioned as a witness and interrogated as a suspect landed Amanda in custody for 1,428 days without being allowed to see her family. How even a false confession, once made, often sways a jury to convict a defendant before any of the evidence is even considered, and why it's not uncommon for a completely innocent person to give a false confession to a skilled interrogator looking to close a case quickly. Why a police department investigating a case under the scrutiny of a worldwide media frenzy might be less interested in carrying out justice than covering up its own countless acts of gross incompetence. Why a populace literate in its own legal rights is the only real way to combat the manipulation of ignorance -- by both prosecution and defense -- in the court system that leads to so many wrong outcomes. In this special episode Kate asks a medium to discuss the unsolved mysteries of the disappearance of Jennifer Kesse, the death of actress Brittany Murphy, whether Amanda Knox was involved in the death of her Italian roommate Meredith Kercher, and what really happened on July 18, 1969 on Chappaquiddick Island. Jennifer Joyce Kesse lived in Orlando, Florida and has been missing since January 24, 2006. Her disappearance puzzled investigators and an aggressive search for her was conducted in the area surrounding her home. Shortly after her disappearance, her car was discovered a little over a mile from her home at a nearby apartment complex. No evidence was ever made known with regards to her, such as finger prints, DNA or cellphone location information from nearby towers. Captured footage from a nearby security camera showed an unidentified person parking Kesse's car before walking away. The case received widespread state and national press attention at the time of her disappearance.Brittany Murphy was an American actress and singer. A native of Atlanta, Murphy moved to Los Angeles as a teenager and pursued a career in acting. Her breakthrough role was as Tai Frasier in Clueless (1995), followed by supporting roles in independent films such as Freeway (1996) and Bongwater (1998). In December 2009, Murphy died of pneumonia at the age of 32. Meredith Kercher was a British student on exchange from the University of Leeds who was murdered at the age of 21 in Perugia, Italy, on 1 November 2007. Kercher was found dead on the floor of her bedroom. By the time the bloodstained fingerprints at the scene were identified as belonging to Rudy Guede, police had charged Kercher's American flatmate, Amanda Knox, and Knox's Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. The subsequent prosecutions of Knox and Sollecito received international publicity. The Chappaquiddick incident was a single-vehicle car accident that occurred on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts, on Friday, July 18, 1969. The late night accident was caused by Senator Ted Kennedy’s negligence, and resulted in the death of his 28-year-old passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, who was trapped inside the vehicle.Reality Life with Kate Casey http://www.loveandknuckles.comTwitter: @katecaseyInstagram: @katecaseycaFacebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245/Facebook.com/loveandknucklesAmazon List: http://www.amazon.com/shop/katecaseycaSUAVEhttp://www.suave.comBOMBAShttp://www.bombas.com/realityPROMO CODE: REALITYKOPARIwww.kopari.com/reality See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Ep #003 - Amanda Knox With Josh from Footballistically Arsenal and Dave from Fortitude Magazine The Netflix Original Documentary “Amanda Knox” was chosen by Josh Landy of “Footballistically Arsenal”. Josh was a student at Leeds University at the time of the Meredith Kircher murder. This cautionary tale was always in the background for him as this was the university that she attended whilst on a year away in Italy. As a former journalist, it was interesting to hear Josh’s take on the Daily Mail journalist Nick Pisa. He was able to give some insight into the way that Nick was thinking and talking during the documentary, which potentially helped to stave off an absolute mauling from the rest of the Flixwatcher peeps. Did Nick Pisa have to be so “smug” about everything, though? Dave Hudson of “Fortitude Magazine” was not best pleased about Nick “Piece of Something” Pisa. The episode #003 crew were generally favourable towards the Amanda Knox documentary, both in terms of the way it was shot and the insight into the story that it gave. It was interesting in particular to see the how big a feature of the film that Amanda Knox was herself and we talk about that in detail in this episode. The documentary shows the details leading up to the day of the murder and the aftermath following the bumbling Italian police as they do everything in their poorly equipped hands to pin the crime directly on Amanda and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. It was great to see the amount of behind the scenes information detail in spite of the fact we were following the bumbling cops. This, of course, had some parallels with the true crime instant classic documentary series “Making A Murderer” which came out just under a year ago, including scenes of unconvincing DNA evidence. Scores The overall Flixwatcher Rating for this-this Amanda Knox is a decent 3.6. We all would love to see Netflix produce more documentaries like this. Amanda Knox only really let itself down with the “Repeat Viewing" score, which I think that’s actually pretty fair. What do you guys think? Have you seen Amanda Knox? What did you think? S1E11: Christmas Behind Bars: A Special Episode with Amanda Knox, Jarrett Adams, & Jeffrey Deskovic In this special episode, Jason Flom talks to Amanda Knox, Jarrett Adams and Jeff Deskovic about what it's like for an innocent person who is forced to spend the holidays in prison. Amanda Knox was convicted of the murder of a 21-year-old British exchange student, Meredith Kercher, who died from knife wounds in the apartment she shared with Amanda in Perugia, Italy in 2007. Amanda and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were both found guilty of killing Kercher, receiving 26- and 25-year prison sentences, respectively. Their convictions were subsequently overturned in 2011 and Amanda was released from prison after serving four years. In early 2014, the Italian Supreme Court ruled that they should both stand trial again and she and Sollecito were re-convicted. Finally, in March 2015, the Italian Supreme Court overturned both murder convictions, ending their eight-year ordeal. Jarrett Adams was 17 years old when he was wrongfully convicted of sexually assaulting a young woman at UW-Whitewater in 1998. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison and spent close to a decade incarcerated before his conviction was reversed with the help of the Wisconsin Innocence Project on the basis that trial counsel had been ineffective for failing to present the testimony of a critical witness. Jarrett graduated from Loyola Law School in May 2015 and is currently practicing law in New York and advocating for criminal justice reform. Jeffrey Deskovic was a 16-year-old high school sophomore when he was wrongfully convicted of the rape and murder of a high school classmate in 1991. Although hair and semen samples taken from the scene did not match Jeff’s DNA, he aroused the suspicion of detectives by weeping openly at the victim’s funeral. After six hours of intense interrogation, Jeff confessed to the crime, though he later contended in a lawsuit that police investigators had fed him the details of the killing and promised him that if he admitted guilt, he would not go to prison but would instead get psychiatric treatment. With the help of The Innocence Project, Jeff Deskovic was exonerated and released in 2006 after DNA analysis linked convict Stephen Cunningham to the crime and Cunningham confessed. wrongfulconvictionpodcast.com Wrongful Conviction with Jason Flom is a production of Lava For Good Podcasts in association with Signal Co. Amanda Knox has been cleared for a second time of murdering British student Meredith Kercher at the cottage they shared in Italy in November 2007. The decision handed down by Italy's highest court puts an end to seven years of legal wrangling. Knox, together with her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, were originally convicted of the murder in 2009. They were acquitted on appeal two years later because of doubts over the forensic evidence, but their convictions were reinstated in January 2014. Ruth Alexander asks what might have influenced the Italian Supreme Court's decision as she returns to interviews gathered last year with some of the key players in the case. The programme features contributions from: Rafaelle Sollecito Francesco Maresca - Kercher family solicitor Giancarlo Costagliola - Prosecutor in the case The original version of this programme was broadcast 20 February 2014. Amanda Knox has had her conviction for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher reinstated by an Italian court. She was convicted, along with her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, in 2009. Doubts about forensic evidence meant the couple were freed after a successful appeal in 2011. But in January 2014 an appeal court reverted to the original guilty verdicts. Reporter Ruth Alexander travels to Italy to investigate the strength of the case. Six years ago a young English student Meredith Kercher was murdered in Perugia, Italy. The investigative and judicial process which followed was fundamentally flawed. Two people, Meredith's American flatmate Amanda Knox, and Knox's boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito spent four years in prison convicted of Meredith's murder. Two years ago they were acquitted on appeal; later this month they will be retried by a fresh appeal court in Florence. Hardtalk speaks with Raffaele Sollecito. His story has made lurid headlines around the world – but how will it end?Picture: Raffaele Sollecito, Credit: BBC
More or Less creates the Alternative Premier League, with lead scorer goals chalked off to work out whether it's true that Van Persie's really single-handedly won Manchester United's the League? And would Tottenham be challenging for a Champions League spot without Gareth Bale's goals? And how much bite has Luis Suarez's contribution given Liverpool's season? There are surprises, and one player really stands out as player of the season. Can you guess who it is? And, as an Italian Court overturns the acquittal of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, accused of killing student Meredith Kercher, mathematician and author of Math on Trial, Coralie Colmez, argues that one judge in the case failed to understand some of the probabilities attached to the forensic evidence – and, in doing so, has missed an opportunity to get to the truth of the matter.
Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were freed from prison in Perugia on Monday, having had their convictions for murdering British student Meredith Kercher overturned. But, as the verdict was being read out, parts of the British media wrongly reported that Knox and Sollecito had lost their appeal. Steve Hewlett asks how the mistake came about and why the misinformation spread so rapidly. The coverage of the trial has been described as a media circus, driven by the press and public's fascination with Amanda Knox. American journalist Nina Burleigh has argued that there is a serious problem with Italian reporters who failed to properly investigate the case or ask the right questions. Nina Burleigh and Marco Colombo ask whether there is really a problem with Italian investigative journalism.A British landlady won her fight against the Premier League and Sky this week after the European Court ruled that she should be able to show Premiership football matches in her pub without buying a Sky box. To discuss what the ruling means for Sky and other broadcasters, Steve is joined by Ashling O'Connor, sports correspondent for The Times, and sports rights lawyer Morris Bentata. The BBC is due to announce its Delivery Quality First proposals tomorrow, a new strategy designed to make savings for licence fee payers. Media commentator Maggie Brown explains which areas are likely to see cuts and what this may mean for BBC audiences. The producer is Simon Tillotson.
