This episode is all about stepping up our game when it comes to the care and well-being of our furry family members with Dr. Ruth Roberts. I'm talking about taking a functional medicine approach to mend and maintain the health of our pets. We all know they're practically our children and deserve nothing but the best to keep them thriving. Dr. Ruth and I dissect the basics, from feeding our pets whole, natural foods to keeping their gut health in check and their detox pathways clear and efficient. You might find yourself as surprised as I was to learn the impact of the everyday kibble might just mimic chomping down on Doritos – not exactly the gourmet meal we aim for! And hey, it's not just about what goes in. There's more to it; like identifying the signs of inflammation, hypothyroidism in pets, and let's not forget the all-important impact of our own energy and stress on our beloved animals. Yep, our pets mirror us in ways you wouldn't believe, taking on our stresses and filling the role of a barometer for our own well-being. Let's also chat vaccines: the whys, the what-fors, and what sensible steps to take. We wrap it up with getting intentional about our approach to pet health, making thoughtful choices backed by Dr. Ruth's wisdom. Cogs Toys and Games, Ireland's top independent toy retailer, is today urging parents to ignite their children's passion for science and engineering this Christmas following the opening of its new pop-up shop on Dublin's Grafton Street. Specialising in products designed to boost brain development in children and maintain mental acuity in adults, Cogs Toys and Games (formerly Cogs The Brain Shop) has been a fixture in St Stephen's Green Shopping Centre in Dublin since it was set up by siblings Conor Brady and Ruth Roberts in 2013. The company marked its 10th anniversary with the opening its new pop-up premises on Grafton Street in October this year. Cogs Toys and Games stocks a wide range of family board games, brain teasers, puzzles, jigsaws, strategy, and STEM games, as well as products specifically for children with additional needs, including sensory toys for children with autism, reading games for children with dyslexia, and fidget toys for those with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Founder of Cogs Toys and Games Ruth Roberts is calling on parents to instil a burgeoning love of science and engineering in their children this Christmas with the gift of one of the company's many STEM toys and games. She says: "As an experienced primary school teacher with a master's degree in educational studies and a diploma in special education, and as a mother of two boys, I know the benefits of learning through play. "All the toys and games we sell online or in-store at our Grafton Street pop-up shop are specifically selected to aid brain development. Indeed, the effectiveness of every product we sell at stimulating the brain is measured before they go on our shelves. This has helped us create one of the best collections of STEM toys and games in Ireland. "Christmas is the perfect time to ignite a child's passion for science and engineering with the gift of one of our STEM toys and games. Visitors to our Grafton Street store will find staff on hand to demonstrate any one of these products, as well as our Irish-made and designed range, and a whole series of products specifically for children with additional needs, such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia." Some of the most popular STEM toys include Snap Circuits, a multi-award-winning range of toys from Elenco which teach children the basics of electronics. Aimed at children aged eight to 15, Snap Circuits has a lot of different kits in a range of prices which offer hands-on experience designing and building models of working electrical circuits using a collection of different components. The range includes models for building a remote-controlled car, a flying saucer, a motion detector, and arcade games. Snap Circuits Green Energy, meanwhile, helps kids understand the concept of clean energy through the construction of windmills and electric cars. Another popular choice this year is The Keva Maker Bot Maze, an engineering tool which allows children to build mazes through which their own motorised robot must pass. The game encourages children to use their creativity, imagination and resourcefulness to make tunnels, bridges, pathways and obstacles from planks and connectors. See the Keva Maker Bot Maze here A charity gift-wrapping service will be operating at the back of the Grafton Street pop-up shop in the run-up to Christmas with all proceeds going towards Hugh's House, a charity that provides family accommodation to parents of sick children in Temple Street, Holles Street, The Coombe and Rotunda Hospitals. Have you ever had one of those experiences that seemed like it was the worst thing that ever happened to you but then it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to you?   Kay Stewart was shocked when her position of 32 years was abruptly eliminated.  But this career loss helped Kay realize how out of alignment she had become with her childhood goal of helping animals.  When she stumbled onto a job listing posted by Ruby, Founder of Real Dog Box, Kay began to find her true passion.   Hired to create a course for the Feed Real Institute, Kay experienced a paradigm shift learning about what a true species-appropriate diet for dogs looked like.  And it wasn't a bag of Kibble (used here in the generic sense to describe any dry dog food pellets). Kay & I discuss the history of Kibble and why it's so bad for our dogs . . . even the “Good Kibble.”   We dive into the veterinary profession's problems with fresh feeding – and why the Feed Real courses put these concerns to rest once and for all.  But what do veterinarians think about that?  Kay shares the reception of Feed Real's RACE (continuing education)-approved course from both holistic and conventional veterinarians.   So what should our dogs be eating?  Kay shares the Feed Real approach to fresh feeding.  And some curious facts about chickens too.   Find Links & Show Notes at: https://believeindogpodcast.com/episodes-1/episode82   Dr. Ruth's Holistic Shop: Save 10% on your orders from Dr. Ruth's Holistic Shop featuring 400+ high quality supplements - including some of your favorite brands! - curated by Holistic Vet Dr. Ruth Roberts with the code: ERINTHEDOGMOM (aff. link)   Support this podcast, subscribe on your favorite app and leave a rating or review.

On today's episode of The Health Detective Podcast, we are talking once again with a woman on a mission to help pets around the world, Dr. Ruth Roberts!   Dr. Roberts was a huge hit the last time she recorded with us! She gave us all the latest insights into keeping our furry friends healthy (you can listen to that episode by clicking here), as well as how we can actually pursue a legitimate career working with people's pets through her Pet Wellness Program.   Now that we have had multiple FDNs successfully go through Dr. Roberts' program with nothing but amazing things to say, we felt it was only right to have her back on to talk about he program itself. (WARNING: You'll also get Detective Ev asking a bunch of random pet related questions!)    Would you like to see more of Dr. Roberts in the future? Let us know by shooting us a direct message on Instagram: @fdntraining.   About Dr. Roberts:   During her 30-year career as a DVM, Dr. Ruth Roberts has become one of the nation's foremost experts in holistic and integrative veterinary medicine. After graduating from North Carolina State University in 1990, Dr. Roberts began her career practicing traditional, Western medicine. The onset of simultaneous health challenges for both her and her dog Arnold, however, prompted Dr. Roberts to seek solutions outside of the traditional realm of veterinary care she had learned in her textbooks. Dr. Roberts furthered her education by absorbing the principles of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine at the Chi Institute in Florida. Her studies there would eventually form the foundation for her philosophy that “good health begins in the bowl.” She is certified in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology and Food Therapy. In 2006, Dr. Roberts founded The Original Crockpot Diet and continues to see the dramatic results it makes in the health of her patients. She is a leading consultant in integrative veterinary medicine and advises clients in the United States and internationally through her website DrRuthRoberts.com. Dr. Ruth is on a mission to empower pet parents and foster a vibrant community, to ignite a global movement for natural pet health, led by Dr. Ruth and Holistic Pet Health Coaches. Our aim is to equip you with the tools and knowledge to champion your pet's wellbeing, making every tail wag and content purr a testament to our commitment.   Dr. Roberts' website: www.drruthroberts.com

We have another business episode for all you health detectives out there today, and this time, we're talking about why you need to stop selling one-off sessions.   Whether it's a limiting belief (or two, or three), lack of experience, or a lack of a system, there are many reasons practitioners fall into the trap of selling only one session to their clients. The problem, however, is that when you ask ANY practitioner how long it takes for a client to get better, NONE of them would say that the answer is only one day.   In thie episode, we take both a motivational and practical approach to why you need to be selling your services in the form of a program. It will not only benefit you, but more importantly, it will greatly benefit your clients!   As always, if you have any questions, reach out to us on Instagram @fdntraining. After working in a few small animal practices after graduation, she purchased a solo doctor practice in 1993. Because of some health challenges, she sold the practice in the midst of doing training at the Chi Institute. She started a mobile practice, seeing patients for holistic care in a converted mobile veterinary clinic. In 2009 she opened a brick and mortar integrative medicine practice, which expanded to employ two other veterinarians. During that time she started doing telemedicine, focusing on creating diet and supplement plans for her patients. In 2016 she sold the brick and mortar practice and has been doing only telemedicine ever since. Please enjoy this conversation with Dr. Ruth Roberts as we discuss her education, exposure to holistic medicine, training in holistic medicine, and how she has used that training to practice in some unique ways, both in person and remotely. We also discuss her upcoming webinar on telemedicine for CIVT.

Adrenal Disorders in Dogs with Dr. Ruth Roberts today on Its A Dogs Life with Angela Ardolino only on Cannabis Radio. Ruth Robert's work as an integrative veterinarian and holistic health coach for pets has been one wrought with tales of triumph, tragedy, and tail wagging. But like most veterinarians, her journey began with the love she developed for her childhood pets. Just like that, it almost seemed as though Ruth was destined to spend her life to help and be a friend to animals. While in veterinary school, it became apparent to her that my role as a veterinarian went well beyond checkups and surgeries. Ruth Roberts realized that she was more than a doctor to our furry friends, she is their friend and advocate. We are the ones who they count on when they feel hurt or uncomfortable and they cannot speak for themselves. We are the ones who can heal them when all possible solutions thought by their owners to ease their pain have been exhausted. Paying close attention to what our pets eat, to what fuels their body, is the first step in preventative care and maintaining good health. Once Ruth realized this in entirety, she was horrified by the food I'd been feeding my own pets and recommending to my clients. Food from the bag or can is just not enough to keep our pets healthy at every stage of their life. Ruth realized that in order for our pets to meet their bodies' nutritional demands, they needed real food. And thus, The Original CrockPET Diet was born.
