Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions:    Sarah: Hello! Back with another question.. Im 28 female from scotland, and have had hair growing in places I shouldn't since age 24. The hair under my chin and a bit on my neck/cheeks is what gets me down the most. My doctor has checked me for PCOS through bloodwork and said everything was fine. I've recently did your hormone test. Testosterone was great, estrogen good, progesterone was low and cortisol was low. I've been on progesterone support, adrenal energy aswell as DNS, greens, omegas etc for some time now. I also take pumpkin seed oil and saw palmetto. The hair just keeps growing. What else can I do? I've tried countless rounds of laser but it just returns. Is hair in this area always related to PCOS/hormones? Can it just be genetics? Thank you!!                                                            Larissa: Hello! I was exposed to black mold for 6 yrs about 5yrs ago. Although my most severe symptoms went away, some longer. I've been working with a naturopath whom recommended a protocol with cholestyramine, charcoal, and minerals for about 1M. However, I've read Andrew Campbell mold protocol and he recommends itraconazole for 7 days. I did my urine mycotoxin testing FYI which still shows a high load of most all strains. Which do you recommend? I want to get rid of all the mold with the least side effects and avoiding constipation (I already have to take daily magnesium citrate to have daily bowel movements). Thank you!!!                                                                                                          Sabrina: Hi doctor Cabral. I'm hoping you can help me with something that is super frustrating. My stomach craves large meals for satisfaction, yet they cause bloating. Conversely, small-volume meals, despite being calorie-dense, just don't register as filling, leaving me wanting more. Is there a way to solve this, meaning training your stomach to be satisfied with smaller meals? Thanks so much for your help!                     Lisa: I am a 48yr old female and have elevated kidney function. 1.1.  have been told not to take creatine. I have heard multiple times that to much protein can have an effect on kidney function also. I love to workout and fir my age high protein and creatine is suppose to be good for someone who works out. Will these things truly hinder or further hinder my kidney function.                                                                                   Cassi: Just completed your book, The Rain Barrel Effect, and was wondering if you have worked with anyone with EOE (Eosinophilic esophagitis) to successfully get them off of PPIs? I've also dealt with histamine intolerance, that I've actually been able to reverse through a lot of what you teach in the book, and I have also gotten down from 20mg of omeprazole twice a day to 20mg once every other day but if I go longer than that I find myself choking on food again no matter how little I eat at a time or how well I chew it.      Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community's questions!    - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/3487 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? Our kidneys filter out waste while retaining substances the body needs, such as electrolytes. Kidney health, which can be assessed with blood and urine biomarker tests, is paramount to overall health. Yet lifestyle, such as the Western diet and other factors, can damage the kidneys, leading to either a slow progression of issues or acute injury. Dr. Rick Johnson and Mike Haney discuss the role of the kidneys, what lifestyle factors affect kidney health, ways to support the kidneys, and what your biomarker results tell you about the function of these crucial organs.Sign Up to Get Your Free Ultimate Guide to Glucose: https://levels.link/wnl

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows!   This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track!   Check out today's questions:     Kellie: Hi Dr. Cabral! I have been with your program for almost 6 months now. I have completed the Vit-Tox tests and have gone through the FM Detox twice and now going through the CBO Protocol. I just turned 38 years old and I feel like my joints are of an 80 year old. I have played soccer since age 5 and still play on a competitive coed league to this day. I have played many other team/contact sports in the past. I have had past ankle, knee, and hip injuries due to sports and I do see possible knee and hip replacements in my future. When I do my daily workouts or go up/down stairs my ankles, knees, hips, and back crack or pop so easily and so much. I don't see glucosamine chondroitin as a supplement in your shop. Are there any suggestions you may have to keep my joints healthier? Thank you!!              Jon: Hey Dr Cabral, looking for advice and i feel like there's a population that struggles with this same topic. My Dr is recommending a statin due to my high LDL-C of 230. My LDL has gone up after cleaning up my diet in the last 7 months however ALL of my markers tested for have improved. Triglycerides have gone from over 200 to 100, HDL is up to 60, VLDL has dropped from 30 to 15, A1C is 5.2, blood pressure is normal for the first time ever, and so onr. My personal opinion is that i'm healthier than ever and i can't imagine having to go on what seems like a lifetime drug due to one marker being off and i don't buy the story that LDL alone is a concern for me. Curious on your opinion here and if you think i have something to worry about. Thanks!!                                                                                                                            Annette: I've been diagnosed with nephrocalcinosis by conventional doctors who say the cause is genetic. I have adjusted my diet to low sodium, low oxalate foods. The doctors say my next step is to try to get on the kidney transplant list before I need dialysis. I take potassium citrate and a calcitriol. Is there anything I can do to improve my kidney function?                                                                                                  Summer: Hi Dr. Cabral! I heard you say that it's best to replace aluminum cookware, but not necessary, and instead to use parchment paper as a barrier. Doesn't the aluminum off gas when heated? How does parchment paper prevent the aluminum from getting into the food? Thanks! By the way, to all my fellow listeners: please contact your state representatives and let them know you do not consent to geo-engineering in your skies. Several states have now banned it. We could all live healthier lives if we could work toward eliminating toxins and heavy metals including aluminum that are regularly being sprayed into our air.                                                                                                                                                Ann: Thank you Dr Cabral- you are changing SO many lives - thank you for all of your wisdom and teachings:) I have a question about Magnesium. My cortisol was high at my last lab test, and I took Full Spectrum magnesium for 12 weeks, and now I take Cal Mag daily. I also understand that I can take Calming Magnesium and CBD at night to help with sleep.I don't want to take too much for too long for my body, but I still think I need the help for my cortisol levels/ sleep. What combination of the above do you recommend? Is there a length of time that is too long to be on Full Spectrum Magnesium? PS. I do the 3-2-1 protocol, take Adrenal Soothe and will be repeating my big 5 this fall. Thank you again!           Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community's questions!      - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/3396 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Nephrologist Manjula Tamura discusses the downsides of kidney dialysis, especially for old or frail patients. Her field has set its sights on offering alternatives, including supportive medical management without dialysis, dialysis in increments, wearable artificial kidneys, and transplanted kidneys from genetically modified pigs – in addition to advances in preventive care that can help humans avoid kidney failure in the first place. Dialysis can extend life, she says, but it is a lifestyle change. The goal is to ensure that every patient's choice aligns with their values and life goals, Tamura tells host Russ Altman in this episode of Stanford Engineering's The Future of Everything podcast.Have a question for Russ? In EPISODE 182 OF GROWING OLDER LIVING YOUNGER, Dr. Thomas Weimbs and Dr. Gillian Lockitch  discuss the prevalence and management of chronic kidney disease (CKD), which affects one in seven adults in the U.S. Dr. Weimbs highlights the importance of diet and lifestyle in managing CKD, particularly through ketogenic metabolic therapy. He explains that ketosis, induced by a low-carbohydrate diet, can slow the progression of polycystic kidney disease (PKD) by reducing inflammation and improving kidney function. Dr. Weimbs  describes the Ren-Nu program, a three-month nutrition and lifestyle intervention for kidney disease patients, which has shown significant improvements in kidney function and pain reduction for many participants. Whether you're affected by kidney disease, have a family history, or are simply interested in how nutrition and epigenetic strategies can support healthy aging, this episode will provide invaluable insights.  Thomas Weimbs PhD is a leading expert in kidney disease research. He is a professor at the University of California in Santa Barbara (UCSB) where he directs a research laboratory focused on polycystic kidney disease. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Cologne, Germany, and then conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California in San Francisco. In 1999, as an assistant professor, he started his first independent research laboratory at the Lerner Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic. There, his research on polycystic kidney disease began with the support of a local family affected by PKD and whose family foundation still supports PKD research in Dr. Weimbs' lab today. In 2005, Dr. Weimbs moved his laboratory back to California to join the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at UCSB. The laboratory studies molecular mechanisms underlying PKD with an emphasis towards developing new therapies. Recent research has led to the discovery that dietary interventions and natural metabolites strongly slow PKD progression in animal models. This led to the launch of Santa Barbara Nutrients with the goal to make these approaches available for the nutritional management of PKD. Hello everyone, In today's episode, I delved into a simple yet often overlooked aspect of weight loss and energy enhancement: hydration with water. As a board-certified family and lifestyle medicine physician, I've seen firsthand how proper hydration can transform lives. Here's a summary of what we covered: Key Points Discussed: Cellular Hydration and Metabolism: Proper hydration aids cellular functions, enhancing metabolic activities like protein synthesis and lipid metabolism, which boosts energy expenditure. Thermic Effect of Water: Drinking water temporarily increases energy expenditure as the body works to heat the ingested water to body temperature. Studies show that 500 mLs of water can increase metabolic rate by about 30% for over an hour. Hormonal Balance and Appetite Regulation: Adequate hydration helps regulate hunger and satiety hormones, preventing the misinterpretation of thirst signals as hunger, thus reducing caloric intake. Kidney Function and Toxin Removal: Hydration supports kidney function, aiding in the efficient removal of waste products and toxins, reducing the risk of kidney stones, and maintaining metabolic balance. Influence on Physical Performance: Proper hydration is crucial for maintaining blood volume, muscle function, and thermoregulation during physical activity, thereby enhancing physical performance and calorie expenditure. Practical Tips for Staying Hydrated: Increase Daily Water Intake: Aim for 8 to 10 ounces per hour during the first 8 to 10 hours of your day. Start Your Day with Water: Begin your morning with a glass of water to set the right tone for the day. Enhance Water Flavor: If you dislike plain water, consider adding frozen fruit or opting for herbal teas. Consume Water-Rich Foods: Include fresh fruits and vegetables with high water content in your diet. Drink Slowly: Avoid gulping down water to prevent frequent urination, especially at night. Additional Advice: Monitor Your Symptoms: If you experience persistent fatigue or other issues, consult your doctor. Avoid Overhydration: Spread your water intake throughout the day to avoid hyponatremia, a condition caused by drinking too much water too quickly. I also shared insights on my signature framework for weight loss and metabolism mastery, and how I've helped thousands of people achieve their health goals. If you're interested in learning more, check out my free masterclass on the five steps to master your metabolism and the common mistakes in weight loss journeys. Thank you for joining me today. The most commonly used equation that determines someone's kidney function includes a binary male-female sex coefficient. But what does this mean for the care of transgender, gender-diverse, and nonbinary people? Cameron Whitley, an associate professor with kidney failure experience, and researchers Keila Turino Miranda, a PhD student, and Dr. David Collister, a nephrologist, shed light on this important topic.   Dr. David Collister (he/him) is a Kidney Doctor, Clinician-Scientist and Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta. He has a PhD in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University. His research program is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Kidney Foundation of Canada and focuses on randomized controlled trials of interventions for uremic symptoms, cannabinoids, the responsiveness of uremic symptoms to the initiation of dialysis, metabolomics, proteomics and the intersection of gender diversity and kidney disease. Keila Turino Miranda (she/her) is a first year PhD Student in the Cardiovascular Health and Autonomic Regulation Laboratory at McGill University. Ms. Turino Miranda's work focuses on understanding and addressing the unique healthcare needs and disparities faced by transgender, gender-diverse, and non-binary (TGD) individuals in the realms of nephrology and cardiology using a patient-oriented approach. Cameron T. Whitley, Ph.D. (he/they) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Western Washington University. He studies issues concerning the environment, human-animal relationships, and transgender-affirming medicine. He got involved with studying transgender-affirming medicine when he was diagnosed with kidney failure and received a kidney transplant while writing his dissertation. Through this process, he coauthored one of the first articles addressing the discrepancies in evaluating kidney function for transgender people. He has over five dozen publications featured in places like Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Academic Emergency Medicine, Clinical Chemistry, and Annual Review of Sociology.   Additional resources: Kidney Function in a Gender Diverse Landscape   Do you have comments, questions, or suggestions? In honor of March being National Kidney Month and the repeated requests we've received for this topic, today we will discuss foods to eat for good kidney function. One in seven American adults have chronic kidney disease, but many don't even realize it until it is in an advanced stage because the signs aren't obvious. Early detection is the best for treating kidney issues and for preventing toxins that can lead to other health conditions such as gout, bone disease, and heart disease. Today we want to discuss the major sources for kidney disease and help you understand that what you are eating can play a part in how well your kidneys function.

It seems like "experts" from many backgrounds seem to agree on the importance of protein, especially as one ages. Meeting a leucine threshold in a meal seems to be a common consensus as well. I love meat and hit that target with no issue 3x per day. However, what I've never heard any of these protein experts talk about is a "stimulus" threshold for MPS. They all talk about weight lifting being a MPS signal but I've never heard of a minimum required dose. I was wondering if in your reading/learning you've heard anyone talk about the minimum "strength workout" needed to initiate MPS. Or is it relative? Like my doing 2 sets of max rep pull ups gets a little MPS going but an hour long leg workout with leg press, deadlifts, RDLs, split squats triggers more? Any insights here would be appreciated! Thanks :)   Early onset Parkinsons and a different approach Amy says: First I want to say I love you guys. I'm always trying to obtain more knowledge in the health and wellness field as a Firefighter/Paramedic and Fitness Coach as a part time. Your show is easy and fast knowledge. Plus I love LMNT. The chocolate medley is my favorite. Now my question. Recently my husband had a hand tremor experience. Early in the morning in bed where it woke me up. He didn't mention it for a couple days but when he did I realized it concerned him as well. He is your typical male that doesn't want to seek medical advice and had to be dragged to the doctor years ago when I suspected a DVT. We found out he had the largest his physician had seen from his ankle to his hip and 3 PEs. ( Pre covid, no he is not vaccinated) we found out it was a genetic disorder. Since the tremor, in my own research I feel like he has a lot of early signs for Parkinsons which I may be me jumping ( but so was the DVT at the time) but this is so concerning. We take a more functional approach to our health and I was wondering your thoughts on that for Parkinsons. I have a previous client where we found weight training really helped his tremors but also any emotional response could make it worse. My husband is healthy, 45, weight trains multiple times a week and does a lot of zone 2 training. Only medical history is the clotting disorder for which he takes Eliquis. Sorry for the long question. Thanks in advance.   Kidney function and protein with age Dawn says: Hello Robb and Nicki, A friend of mine in her late 40's is following a mostly paleo diet and has been increasing animal proteins and working on resistance training to increase muscle mass the last few years to help with healthy aging, glucose control, maintaining function etc. She has recently started including creatine supplementation to help with brain and muscle function as per all sorts of recommendations from various ppl in the healthy aging and menopause space. She has relatively low body fat (visible abs and shoulder muscles) and has only a couple drinks a week. She uses LMNT daily. She just received blood work results showing higher than normal creatinine and ALT levels and is wondering whether to stop creatine supplements. Also, she will be booking in to see a renal doc to discuss further but is worried because all conventional advise for kidney disease Appears to be: go on a low protein diet, eat vegetable oils, “healthy” whole grains etc….which completely flies in the face of her experience of better health and body comp for years on a more ancestral style diet with increasing protein over time. She has experienced several UTIs in the last year which could be due to estrogen dropping post hysterectomy (therefore she is menopausal) and recently had covid…so there is a history now of urinary infection AND it seems that some people experience renal issues post virus. Any suggestions on protein and creatine? Resources we can research so she can make informed choices? It's scary that the conventional dietary changes are totally opposite what someone needs to do to retain good muscle mass as one ages, and they seem to promote higher glucose levels over time which we know will lead to diabetes. Thanks so much for any light you can shed. It can be difficult when you are trying to buck the normal trend of decline with middle age by doing seemingly the opposite of what the doctors tell us to do.
