In this Quick Tok episode, Jack, Layla, May, and Hendrik discuss three crazy true amusement park stories. The Abandoned Japanese Theme Park - Nara Dreamland:Nara Dreamland in Japan was once a thriving theme park that closely resembled Disneyland. It opened in 1961 but was permanently closed in 2006 due to declining attendance and financial troubles. Despite being closed to the public, the park remained largely intact for years, becoming a surreal, abandoned urban exploration destination. It wasn't until 2016 that the park was finally demolished, but during its years of abandonment, it gained notoriety as a haunting and eerie place. The Euthanized Mascot:In 1974, Six Flags Over Mid-America (now Six Flags St. Louis) in Missouri introduced a live mascot, a young elephant named Raja. Unfortunately, Raja was involved in a tragic incident. During a public event, the elephant became agitated and charged into a crowd, causing injuries. As a result, the park faced backlash, and Raja was euthanized. This incident led to changes in how live animals were used in amusement parks and raised awareness about animal welfare concerns. The Lawsuit Over Roller Coaster Facial Recognition:In 2018, a Chinese amusement park called Wuzhizhou Island introduced a facial recognition system on one of its roller coasters. The system was designed to capture riders' facial expressions during the ride and automatically generate and sell photos to them. However, the park faced legal trouble when a lawyer discovered that the park was collecting riders' biometric data without their consent, violating privacy laws. This bizarre use of technology on a roller coaster led to a lawsuit and highlighted the importance of protecting personal data in unexpected places.Podcast Website: https://stream.redcircle.com/episodes/4b7a3021-1ece-4590-8b82-bfc28f4b174f/stream.mp3Social Media:Tik Tok:@atozenglish1------------------------Instagram:@atozenglish22------------------------Twitter:@atozenglish22------------------------A to Z Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/theatozenglishpodcastCheck out the Free Online English Lessons YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. In show business, a gypsy is a term of endearment and respect. A gypsy is a member of the chorus…the ensemble…the singers and dancers who travel from show to show and Bill Disbennett was a true gypsy. Bill has danced all around the world, starting at Six Flags St. Louis and then Opryland USA for 3 years. From there, he danced for Disney in a travel trade show to promote Disney's MGM Studios, performing in 30 cities to get the word out to travel agents about the new theme park. Bill was then hired as a Kid of the Kingdom, where he danced in all of the Castle shows in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World for 5 years. From there, he moved half-way around the world and danced at Tokyo Disneyland for 4 years before coming back to the US to dance in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in New York City. He then moved from land to sea, where he danced for Disney Cruise Line aboard both the Disney Magic and Wonder and then went back to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. When Bill retired from performing, he went to Meredith Manor International Equestrian Center, taught there for a year, and moved back to Orlando where he had an equestrian business for 13 years. He's now working his dream job at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch where he manages the operation of 40 Ranch Hands and over 100 equines. Enjoy Part 1 of Scott's conversation with the amazing Bill Disbennett! Today's coaster style ERT is one that everyone loves, and everyone hates, and heck, everyone LOVES to HATE and that is the Vekoma Boomerang model.  Yes, these cloned rides are all over the US and even the world but for today we will be discussing and ranking the 13 that we have had the "pleasure" to ride over the past five years.  While the stats are all the same, not all boomerangs are created equal. We will be discussing the two at Six Flags New England along with the one's at Six Flags St. Louis, Worlds of Fun, Hersheypark, Morey's Piers, Lake Compounce, Six Flags Great Escape, Kings Island, Dorney Park, Canada's Wonderland, Carowinds, and Six Flags Darien Lake. Some are inverted, some are modernized, and some are even 200 ft tall.  Some might even be a new credit (looking at you Jolly Rancher Remix).  So sit back and enjoy this LONG discussion about everyone's favorite neck snapping ride besides the SLC. Ron McKenzie is an attractions industry veteran who was most recently the Park President of Six Flags Over Texas. Ron has a wealth of experience both leading attractions teams and marketing and selling the fun that we produce. In this episode, Ron shares many of the great stories from his career, discusses effective communication, and pulls back the curtain on some of his favorite marketing stunts.  Theme park stories   "I was handed a phone book, and told, go sell something."   Ron started with Fiesta Texas (before Six Flags took over) in 1993. New to group sales in a theme park, Ron admits he didn't know what he was selling, but it was great to be in waiting rooms with others who were selling copy machines, etc., because he knew that his product was so much more fun.   Ron has so many great stories about his time in the industry, and he is happy to share them! So many people talk about creating stories that guests get to experience, but we may forget the stories that happen to us as we are creating those memories and special times for others. Those are really important stories, too.  Effective communication   "Leadership is all about effective communication, trust, and getting people to believe in what you are trying to accomplish."   Sometimes the best ideas grow out of necessity or a whim. Ron shares that during the hectic days of re-opening that he would stop by the employee cafeteria for a bite to eat and would sit outside. He had no idea that the team members would respond so positively by taking the time to talk to him, share what they loved about their jobs and where they wanted to go in life.    The time to interact with team members became Ron's favorite time in the park. There were times that he couldn't finish a meal because so many people were talking with him, but he felt, as a leader, that's exactly where he was supposed to be. Communicating, listening, and sometimes even giving people a little nudge to keep moving forward.  Marketing stunts   “At that point in my career I knew a lot, but did not know how to pull off a guy jumping 26 cars in our parking lot.”   Of all of the significant marketing initiatives and experiences Ron has had, he shared that one of his greatest highlights was working with Robbie Knievel as he attempted to jump 26 Dodge Chargers in the Six Flags St. Louis parking lot to announce the opening of their new wooden coaster.    Ron shares that one of the best things about working with Robbie was that he got to learn so much more about Robbie's dad, Evel Knievel, who was someone Ron looked up to as a kid. This also led to an unfortunate picture of Ron and Robbie that made it into the local paper! To connect with Ron, you can find him on LinkedIn.    This podcast wouldn't be possible without the incredible work of our amazing team: Audio and video editing by Abigail Giganan Scheduling and correspondence by Kristen Karaliunas Branding and design by Fabiana Fonseca To connect with AttractionPros: attractionpros@gmail.com

On this episode of the Q, Travis Corley of Agitate the Airwaves joins to discuss all the happenings with his company and life in the St. Louis area. Plus they decide to avoid discussing politics for the show. First up, Mark and Travis start to discuss people that are always happy. How do you respond to someone constantly happy? There is no way that a human can be happy 100% of the time, yet we run into these people in life and their happiness rubs off on others. Next up is a hodge podge. Mark and Travis discuss Mark's recent trip to Six Flags St. Louis and how disappointed he was with the park and the staffing and all of it. Banking off their discussion of Warped Tour, Mark provides detail of what it's like to charge hundreds of dollars to get into the park and then offer up less and worse service considering that enormous price.  This leads to a discussion about music and movies that spans multiple genres and styles. It's a really fun talk about everything and too much to post in the info. Finally Mark and Travis try to figure out two problems: 1. Why Travis is being attacked for not nominating certain people for the Agitate the Airwaves Awards? 2. Is this boyfriend an Jerk for going to dinner and not paying a bill? You gotta hear the story to understand.  All this and much more on this episode of the Q!

Let's just face facts.  Having Allies in War is strategically important to the success of a country in a War. And with the world on edge and arms discussions at the highest levels since the Cold War, it would only benefit the USA to have good allies. Unfortunately when you hand the keys to the country, to a man that clearly has no couthe and tends to go out of his way to attack and degrade the leaders of our allied countries, you are gonna end up worse for wear. And after this first trip to the middle east to meet leaders in that area, and his handling of the secret info from the Manchester attack, Trump is starting to piss allies off. Mark and Jason Kull discuss the impact that this could have. Also, Mark went to Six Flags St. Louis again and had another issue. Although this time it wasn't with treatment of people. Mark seems to have found a serious issue with sizing at park.  He discusses on the show.
