Seamus Gallivan is the 150th guest on In the Flamingo Lounge. He joined Rockabilly Greg On January 22, 2025 for a lively conversation about the local community and connecting people and communities. Seamus is a social connecter who has lived in a majority of Buffalo's council districts and worked in every single neighborhood. A founding force behind the likes of Larkin Square, Slow Roll Buffalo, and the campaign of India Walton for Buffalo Mayor, his latest venture is Reconnecter, which provides stories and events for social connection.  Seamus had a backdoor entry into the music business. He began careers in both baseball and journalism while still a high school student, working at every level of professional baseball including the Buffalo Bisons along with organizations in Florida and Texas. While back in Buffalo between stints with baseball teams in Texas, he was a preschool teacher of Declan Miers, son of longtime Buffalo News music writer Jeff Miers, forging a bond that led him to become a freelance contributor to the News beginning in 2003.  Seamus stayed on regular assignment for The Buffalo News even after returning to Texas in 2005, covering the local music scene and previewing visits from touring acts, many of which were based in or passing through Austin. While working in baseball there, he joined the review staff of NPR affiliate KUT Radio, and cofounded the annual Reckless Kelly's Celebrity Softball Jam, which over 10 years donated nearly a half-million dollars to local charities.  Upon repatriating to Buffalo in 2009, Seamus founded The Good Neighborhood, often “gathering for the greater good” at music clubs such as the Sportsmens Tavern, Nietzsche's and Mohawk Place with a cause for every concert as well as a daily website covering community. This venture led to invitations to be a founding part of Larkin Square and Slow Roll Buffalo, the former celebrated in a 2012 Buffalo News column that described him as an “omnipresent culture maven.” After Larkin and Slow Roll became the bulk of Seamus' work for the better part of a decade, Reconnecter is both a return to and evolution of the purpose of The Good Neighborhood, and music remains at its heart - his free weekly email, the Buffalodown, includes “Musings on Music,” a concert-heavy list of upcoming community events, and links to conversations on music as a force for social connection.

The first ever Santa Slow Roll is coming to Clare tomorrow. In this episode, Greg and I join Slow Roll Cleveland and several hundred other cyclists for a leisurely-paced bike parade through our urban streets. Slow Roll Cleveland hosts these ten-mile Monday evening rides during warmer months to highlight Cleveland neighborhoods and bring joy and community to riders and residents alike. Our slow roll took off from Shaker Square and took us through the Shaker, Buckeye, and Mount Pleasant neighborhoods. It was a blast. Hundreds of cyclists on bikes tricked out with bells, boom boxes, and lights shouted "Happy Monday" to excited onlookers waving from tree lawns, porches, and driveways. Slow Roll Cleveland has been hosting these inclusive social bike rides since 2013. Board President, Kevin Jones,  spoke with us before the ride about the mission of Slow Roll, how it was founded, and why these rides are so popular. We also spoke with several participants and members of the Squad, the crack volunteers who ensure the rides run smoothly and safely. Come along with us. The Chair of Clare's Joint Policing Committee says he "can't understand" why Clare is lagging behind other counties regarding the provision of traffic calming measures. The number of recorded speeding offences in this county is up 15% so far this year, with 1,135 separate incidents detected by Gardaí between January and April. At the most recent Shannon Municipal District meeting, Fine Gael Councillor John Crowe has called for traffic calming on the approach roads to Sixmilebridge, Cratloe and Newmarket-on-Fergus. The Sixmilebridge representative insists the local authority and Gardaí must work together to combat the concerning rise in speeding.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will implement lane closures and slow rolls on I-295 southbound at Nuckols Road June 12 to facilitate the installation of new and removal of old cantilever signs. The slow roll will take place from I-64 westbound onto I-295 southbound at mile marker 52.3, beginning Monday at 8 p.m. and continuing until the work is completed. The right-hand lane also will be closed. Drivers should expect delays a minimum of 15-minute intervals with 45 minutes in between to allow normal traffic flow. We add non-minimal couplings between $F_{alphabeta}$ and a scalar field, solve for $F_{alphabeta}$ and insert it back into the action. This leads to modified gauge field and scalar field terms. We consider slow-roll inflation and show that because of the modifications to the scalar sector, adding higher order terms to the inflaton potential does not spoil its flatness, unlike in the usual case. Instead they make the effective potential closer to quadratic. Induced gravitational waves from slow-roll inflation after an enhancing phase by Shyam Balaji et al. on Thursday 22 September The primordial spectrum of fluctuations may present a large peak as a result of enhancing features during inflation. This may include, but is not limited to, bumps in the inflaton's potential, phases of ultra-slow-roll or turns in multi-field space. However, in many models, inflation does not end immediately after the enhancing feature and it is likely to continue with a second phase of slow-roll. We show that the resulting induced gravitational waves may probe the primordial spectrum from the second inflationary phase, even if its amplitude is too small to directly induce detectable gravitational waves. This is because, if there are sharp peaks in the primordial spectrum, the total gravitational wave spectrum is not simply the sum of gravitational waves induced by a peaked and scale-invariant primordial spectra separately, but cross terms from interaction between these modes also become important. We also find that such cross terms always have a characteristic slope.
