Zwei Tutti-Schläge im Orchester, dann stürmen sie los im Fortissimo: Die vier Solo-Hörner, die Robert Schumann gewählt hat, um in seinem «Konzertstück» op. 86 ihre ganz besondere Rolle einzunehmen.  Vier individuelle Instrumente, klanglich aber aus einem Guss und sicherlich eine ganz spezielle Solo-Klangfarbe! Dass Schumann die Hörner so vielfältig in seinem Stück einsetzen konnte, lag an der damals relativ neuen Bauart der Instrumente: Es sind Ventilhörner, die anders als Naturhörner, die damals noch die Regel waren, eine viel breitere Palette an Harmonien und Spielfiguren realisieren können. Dafür braucht es Solistinnen und Solisten, die sich nicht stressen lassen, denn das Horn-Spiel ist heikel. Und die aber den Schwung, die diese Musik in sich trägt, dennoch mitreissend zu gestalten vermögen. Das Dutch Harp Festival, das Niederländische Harfenfestival in Utrecht, stellt nun schon seit über zehn Jahren die große und unbekannte Welt der Harfe vor: Harfenspielerinnen und -spieler erobern mit überraschendem Mut unerwartete Genres wie Pop und improvisierten Jazz, mit internationalen Solistinnen und Solisten, mit einem eigenen Wettbewerb und mit Projekten, die die Harfe auch bei Jugendlichen populärer machen soll – was in den Niederlanden ganz gut geklappt zu haben scheint. Matthias Nöther hat sich online Eindrücke verschafft und berichtet aus der wunderbaren Welt der Harfe.

Der Schweizerischer Solo- und Quartettwettbewerb SSQW zeichnete am Samstag die besten Solistinnen, Solisten und Quartette aus. Die Jungen haben den «Biss» trotz Corona nicht verloren. Dies bewiesen sie eindrücklich am Samstag am Final des Schweizerischen Solo- und Quartettwettbewerbs für Blechblas- und Perkussionsinstrumente SSQW. Solo-Champion unter den Blechbläsern wurde zum dritten Mal in Folge die Unterwalliser Cornettistin Mathilde Roh. Bei den Perkussionisten gewann der Luzerner Tom Müller den Titel. Das beste Quartett des SSQW 2021 ist «Shake Brass» aus dem Wallis (vollständige Ranglisten siehe untenstehende Links). Aufgrund der Coronapandemie wurde das Final aus der Eventfabrik in Bern per Video-Livestream übertragen. Das Video ist online immer noch abrufbar.

Nach mehr als einem halben Jahr ohne Publikum im Saal hat die Bayerische Staatsoper am 13. Mai erneut ihre Pforten geöffnet. 700 Plätze, standen zum Verkauf. Fast 50 Jahre lang führte Jazzpianist Count Basie sein Mitte der 1930er-Jahre gegründetes Orchester. Das Count Basie Orchester war zuerst eine kleine, achtköpfige «Big» Band. Mit zunehmendem Erfolg wurde es zu einem stilprägenden und innovativen Orchester mit Weltklasse-Solisten. In der Reihe «The Signature tunes – die Erkennungsmelodien der populärsten Big Bands und Solisten der Swing Aera» stellt Jürg Moser «One o'clock jump» von Count Basie vor. «Signature tune» Ein «Signature tune» ist die Erkennungsmelodie eines Orchesters, einer Big Band oder auch von Solisten. Sie sollte repräsentativ sein, ein echter «ear catcher», und den speziellen und eigendständigen Sound eines Klangkörpers hervorheben. Jermarcus Hardrick started at left tackle for Nebraska football for the 2010-2011 seasons. His nickname is “Yoshi”, after the little green dinosaur dude in the Super Mario video games. He was born in a town of 350 people and from there made his way to Fort Scott Community College, playing football for coach Jeff Sims. He came to Nebraska by way of Fort Scott, then made his way into the NFL, then arena football, and then became a Canadian Football League champion with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as they won the Grey Cup in 2019. That is one helluva journey. It’s worth some of your time to hear Yoshi talk about it. As we assess where each team ended last season, we also look at what each team has done this off season to try to improve. oh and we look at possible needs for this team as the draft is coming up soon. Speaking of draft, Fred and Scott each do a Mock draft live on air, allowing fans followed along on the videocast of the show. During and after each of their mocks, they breakdown what their thoughts were in making their picks. There is so much talk just now about the decline of Christianity in this country. But try to listen to the right music on that score. Or rather, the more accurate music! The fact is, young people and young families are flocking to churches where the Gospel is preached. From Charlottesville to Lower Manhattan to Bedford to Waco to Louisville to Winter Park to Rice to Bradford to "Baltimore and D.C. now (Don't forget the Motor City)" (Martha & The Vandellas, 1964)) to ... well, you fill in the blank: people are coming to church where mercy is offered, hope is proffered, and defeated persons succored. And it's not just "Back Row America". The Offer's being made everywhere. And a further point. The poll takers of church attrition are not talking very much to Hispanic and other immigrant communities. The Hispanic pentecostal churches are thriving. I mean, booming! Go to Bridgeport. Go to The Bronx. Go to Orlando, near the Airport. Visit Guillermo Maldonado's church in Miami. Go to ... well, again, you fill in the blank. There are not many white hairs (like mine) in those churches. So Listen to the Music. The music that's in tune, that is; the music that's on key and with the beat. The music you can dance to. And if 'Heinz' were looking for a church today -- hear the cast's closing track -- I think I know where he'd go. LUV YOU!
