Dort entsteht ihr zweites Album „It's All Happening“, das Ilgen-Nur Ende 2023 veröffentlicht. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Many musicians and visual creators have chosen to discontinue their participation in the well-regarded South by Southwest festival, held annually in Austin, Texas. The decision for the mass exit was driven by the event's financial backing from a somewhat controversial source - namely, the U.S. Army. This military branch, according to the departing artists, has contributed to arming conflicts in areas around the globe, a concern that especially focuses on the situation in Palestine. In the intricate and interdependent world of international relations, it's an acknowledged truth that the mightier nations often sway geopolitical occurrences. Thus, as a natural outcome, the performers perceived the U.S. Army's involvement in the universally loved music gathering as a subtle endorsement of the stance they have taken on contentious global issues. In the case at hand, the promoters of the festival found themselves grappling with a disconcerting reality - the pullout of a considerable chunk of attendees due to disillusionment. Such scenarios, wherein artists choose to exit high-profile events, serve as a testament to their moral compass and the values they hold dear. It is an affirmation of their unwavering commitment to their beliefs and a clear demonstration of the lengths they will go to in order to remind the world of certain unpalatable truths. In this instance, those truths involve the somewhat overlooked crisis in Palestine, and the role they perceive the U.S. Army plays in it. This recent withdrawal of artists, however, does not necessarily mean a diminishing of the festival. South by Southwest is a tradition that celebrates music, and more broadly, art itself. It's an event that despite, or perhaps because of its controversies, continues to draw large crowds each year. The upside is that the show will continue, and the thousands assembled will not be denied the flavorful melody and rhythm they've come to expect.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Emmy® Award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter joins Tavis to showcase her latest project DEADLOCKED: HOW AMERICA SHAPED THE SUPREME COURT. A four-part documentary series that traces the modern history of the Supreme Court and the people, decisions and confirmation battles that have shaped the Court into what it is today. DEADLOCKED: HOW AMERICA SHAPED THE SUPREME COURT ABOUT THE SERIES From Emmy® Award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter, DEADLOCKED: HOW AMERICA SHAPED THE SUPREME COURT is a four-part documentary series that traces the modern history of the Supreme Court and the people, decisions and confirmation battles that have shaped the Court into what it is today. With the Justices under the microscope like never before, DEADLOCKED premieres on SHOWTIME at a profoundly consequential time: Americans are grappling with a Supreme Court drastically remade by former President Donald Trump; the historic confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson; the unprecedented leak from inside the Court's chambers; and the aftershock of the landmark Dobbs decision's effective reversal of Roe v. Wade. To understand this critical moment, the series travels back to the 1950s when Chief Justice Earl Warren heralded an era of progressive legal decisions spurred by the nation's changing values, paving the zigzagging path the country is still walking today. DEADLOCKED reveals how the Supreme Court's ideological balance has shifted over the years to reflect the hopes - and fears - of American citizens, exploring the interconnectedness between the Court's and the nation's future. HER NEXT PROJECT Award-winning, acclaimed filmmaker Dawn Porter. Over the years Dawn has emerged in the entertainment industry as a leader in the art of storytelling; directing and producing critically acclaimed projects that have impacted generations of people from all walks of life. Dawn's recent feature film with ABC News Studio, "The Lady Bird Diaries," is a groundbreaking all-archival documentary film about the former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson, who is one of the most influential and least understood First Ladies. The feature film looks at the 123 hours of personal and revealing audio diaries that Lady Bird recorded during her husband's administration. These audio diaries showcase how Lady Bird was an astute observer of character and culture, as well as a savvy political strategist. Dawn highlights Lady Bird's crucial role in Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency and brings viewers behind the scenes of one of the most tumultuous and consequential periods in modern American history. "The Lady Bird Diaries" was met with critical review at the 2023 South By Southwest Festival and went on to receive The Louis Black 'Lone Star' Award. The film is produced by Trilogy Films for ABC News Studios with Dawn serving as the director and producer. "The Lady Bird Diaries" will exclusively premiere on Hulu on November 13, 2023.

Welcome to the South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas! We're kicking off our coverage with two powerful short films, Scotty's Vag, and Vibrator Girl.Scotty's Vag explores a night of sorority hazing, and how far one girl is willing to go to fit in. Director Chaconne Martin-Berkowicz sat down with us to talk about her experience with sororities, her apprehensions with the film's title, and the difficulty of shooting a scene that involves jello wrestling. Vibrator Girl is a horror/fantasy that imagines what happens when a girl uses her vibrator compulsively to the point of no return. We were joined by screenwriter/star Zoe Mintz, and screenwriter/producer Morgan Ciot to discuss why this had to be a horror film, and the ongoing themes of femininity, body dysmorphia, and pleasure.
If you're a regular listener, you know we were thrilled to host a panel at the South By Southwest Festival on food insecurity. Like the good students we aim to be, we gathered with our panelists, Lawson Picasso(advocate) and Celia Cole (CEO of Feeding Texas) for a run-through of our panel ahead of the actual day. In addition, we wanted to share our panel with you listeners because we know that attending SXSW isn't possible for many of you. Join us as we share what we plan to cover during the festival and give you a peek into how we prepared. Eventually, the audio of the actual panel should be available and we will share that as well. Thank you for following along with us and allowing us to highlight this important topic!

For this episode we're talking about the new movie Everything Everywhere All At Once, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, also known as Daniels. When it premiered at the South By Southwest Festival this spring, it was described as “a hilarious and big-hearted sci-fi action-adventure about an exhausted Chinese American woman who can't seem to finish her taxes.” Hong-Kong action star Michelle Yeoh plays that exhausted woman who, in struggling with a tax audit, gets taken on a wild journey through the multiverse. Our youth film critics got together to talk about Everything Everywhere All At Once, how it uses maximalism to tell its story, its unique approach to the multiverse, and the legacy they hope the movie will have. The April 1989 issue is a little stripped-down -- no fiction, no quiz -- but still gives us lots to chew on. Catherine's profile of Andi, a teen addict, left us with a lot of questions. Laura Norton heads to a Yonkers high school to get close to its cliques. Christina and Jane's trip to spring break in Daytona Beach might not have gone into enough detail on a vacation that sounds like our worst nightmare. Body Talk leads us to our new favorite Las Vegas journalist. And there's also much to learn in Help, What He Said about dating a buddy's girlfriend, and a full page of Stuff You Wrote magic. We're not Cools, but we hope you hang out with us anyway.Visual Aids
In this episode of Can't Find My Way Home, I was joined by Robert John Hope. Rob is an Irish, Berlin based singer/songwriter whose music is rooted in ambient folk and alternative pop/rock. We sat down and chatted about both his expat and musical journey so far. As frontman of Irish outfit Senakah, Robert spent 8 years touring America and Europe both with the band and as a solo artist, releasing two albums to critical acclaim. With three top 20 chart hits in Ireland under his belt, he travelled to the US playing close to 300 shows in over 40 states, taking in legendary venues such as the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood and the Boulder Theatre, as well as the South By Southwest Festival. In April, 2021 he released his debut solo album - "Plasticine Heart” recorded on a ship in Berlin's Treptower Park, to great reviews. Rob details how the constant touring made him a better musician, as well as the ups and downs that it entails. We talk about visual accompaniments, soundscapes and musical styles for the new album, as well as finding out more about the fantastic lead song on the album. Rob recalls how working with Noel Hogan (Cranberries guitarist) helped elevate and develop his approach to recording new material. Rob will also be recording in Berlin's famous Hansa Studios for his next project, later this year. The Top 5 features Peter Schilling, Big Thief, Tennis, being disappointed by Modest Mouse, all this and what it's like to play at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. Normally, if something goes wrong it's not too much of a problem, we just turn to our insurance companies and get compensation. But what happens when it goes wrong for everyone at the same time, and our insurance companies say they can't help us? Today, we're joined by Joel Paprocki who is a risk management expert and entrepreneur. We talk about how responsible insurance companies are for damages caused by the virus, and the rights that people still in work have. No one knows how long this will last, but we all know nothings ever going to be the same. We talk about the long lasting effects this pandemic is going to have on the food industry, as well as the world as a whole. I'm reminded of how fortunate I am to live in such a fantastic community and to have all that I do. This is a time to appreciate what we have, and notice what's really important. My talk with Joel was incredibly informative, and we both remembered the importance of laughter… ”More now than ever we realise how much we all depend on each other. ” – Joel Paprocki Time Stamps: 00:48 – Who our guest is. 01:11 – What we're going to be talking about today. 04:50 – Joel's perspective on the current situation with the virus. 05:57 – How Joel's been spending his time at home. 07:56 – Whether a virus is included in an insurance policy or not. 10:15 – The extent that insurance companies get blamed for the situation. 12:33 – An ATG employee being tested positive for the virus. 13:35 – The rights and risks for people still at work. 17:38 – The lack of insurance most companies that are starting delivery services have. 21:12 – My talk with Sam Lash and the new things he's doing. 22:42 – The changes to the food industry that are going to stick around. 23:17 – What Street Food Finder is. 25:51 – The problem with Uber Eats and Grub Hub. 26:41 – Ghost kitchens and where they're headed. 29:05 – Why Joel decides to focus his insurance life on food businesses. 30:18 – The commercial kitchens Joel bought, and the business he started. 34:02 – The moment that Joel realized the virus was a serious situation. 36:31 – Who's finding it hardest during these times. 39:11 – Seeing people disobey the social distancing order and how that makes us feel. 42:11 – How long Joel thinks the lockdown will last for. 46:22 – South By Southwest Festival cancelling and the impact that had. 50:28 – The businesses that will survive in this time. 51:41 – Allowing alcoholic drinks to be sold ‘to go' from restaurants. 55:41 – How well the bars and restaurants will recover when the virus has passed. 57:33 – Things we often take for granted. 01:01:39 – The tiger that tested positive for having Coronavirus. 01:04:09 – The stimulus funds that will be made available to businesses in the near future. Asheville's Tongues of Fire are still a young band, but vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Lowell Hobbs has already absorbed some time-worn lessons. For instance, twice now, the band has invested many months, untold amounts of money and healthy doses of hope to perform at the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Tex. "We've never been accepted officially, but that has not stopped us," Hobbs said. "It's interesting being one of the bigger bands in Asheville, like our shows are usually packed, and then we'll go down to SXSW and it's like being thrown into this sea. I spent like six months working every contact I had and just begging people, and get like three showcases and maybe one of them is good. It's definitely really frustrating and we're very burned out, but we're not gonna stop."

As they ascend deep into the woods, Cal teaches David about predators and prey, fathers and sons, the past and the increasingly complicated present. An encounter with a bear cub results in serious injuries to both David and Cal. After futile attempts to hike out together, David resolves to carry his father on his back to safety while simultaneously healing his broken spirit. "Walking Out" is an intimate epic, a relentlessly primal, fiercely rawboned tale of connection, survival and the true path to manhood. The Transfiguration An official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, writer/director Michael O’Shea’s debut feature “The Transfiguration” follows troubled teen Milo who hides behind his fascination with vampire lore. When he meets the equally alienated Sophie, the two form a bond that begins to challenge Milo’s dark obsession, blurring his fantasy into reality. A chilling portrait of violence, “The Transfiguration” is an atmospheric thriller set against the grit of New York City. This Is Your Death Today’s audience has become infatuated with watching others degrade themselves on national television. They crave a wild argument, a bloody fight, or a publicized scandal. It has become the ultimate source of entertainment. But when the boundaries seem like they can’t be pushed any further, game-show host Adam Rogers steps in to break down the wall by hosting a new game show where contestants end their lives for a chance to win money. Adam will only be satisfied if his reality show is number one in the ratings, and he’ll stop at nothing to make sure he gets there, even if it means letting go of his humanity. Small Town Crime Ex-cop Mike Kendall (John Hawkes) discovers the body of a young woman and, in an act of self-redemption, becomes hellbent on finding the killer. While his un-couth and quirky detective style helps break open the case, his dogged determination unwittingly puts his sister (Octavia Spencer) and best friend (Anthony Anderson) in danger. Additional cast members include Robert Forster, Clifton Collins, Jr., Michael Vartan, James Lafferty, Daniel Sunjata, Caity Lotz, Jeremy Ratchford, Don Harvey, Stefanie Scott and Dale Dickey. Win It All Jake Johnson stars as small time gambler Eddie Garrett, who agrees to watch a duffel bag for an acquaintance who is heading to prison. When he discovers cash in the bag, he’s unable to resist the temptation and winds up deeply in debt. When the prison release is shortened, Eddie suddenly has a small window of time to win all the money back. Going to Brazil Four childhood friends are reunited at a wedding in Rio. But when they accidentally kill a young man during a party that gets out of hand, they are forced to flee the city in a crazy adventure that takes them from the favelas to the posh embassies, from the beaches to the rainforest, and is filled with caipirinhas, guns and bikinis. Hounds of Love In suburban Perth during the mid 1980s, people are unaware that women are disappearing at the hands of serial killers John and Evelyn White. After an innocent lapse in judgment, Vicki Maloney is randomly abducted by the disturbed couple. With her murder imminent, Vicki realizes she must find a way to drive a wedge between Evelyn and John if she is to survive. Hounds of Love is an exercise in expertly-crafted tension, offering a bold, challenging debut from writer/director Ben Young. Prevenge A pitch black, wryly British comedy from the mind of Alice Lowe, "Prevenge" follows Ruth, a pregnant woman on a killing spree that’s as funny as it is vicious. It's her misanthropic unborn baby dictating Ruth's actions, holding society responsible for the absence of a father. The child speaks to Ruth from the womb, coaching her to lure and ultimately kill her unsuspecting victims. Struggling with her conscience, loneliness, and a strange strain of prepartum madness, Ruth must ultimately choose between redemption and destruction at the moment of motherhood. "Prevenge" marks the directorial debut from Lowe, who is a triple threat, writing, directing, and acting in the film during her own pregnancy. Goran Goran lives a simple life surrounded by his friends and family in the snow-covered Croatian highlands. This carefree existence is put to an end when his wife announces she is expecting a child. Whereas they have every reason to celebrate, the good news will unleash the fiery personalities of the highlanders, leading to a darkly comic twist of events. The white winter will soon turn red. Colossal Gloria is an out-of-work party girl who, after getting kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, is forced to leave her life in New York and move back to her hometown. When news reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, South Korea, Gloria gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this far-off phenomenon. As events begin to spin out of control, Gloria must determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world. Fits & Starts David Warwik is a struggling writer who has been toiling away at the same novel for years. His wife Jennifer is a hot young literary figure, who has just released a new masterpiece. In a world of fabricated personalities, Kiya is intent on exposing something gutturally truthful about humanity, but ultimately, she must confront herself. Dara Ju Seyi, a 24-year-old Nigerian-American, works on Wall Street. Most Beautiful Island "Most Beautiful Island" is a psychological thriller examining the plight of undocumented female immigrants hoping to make a life in New York. Shot on Super 16 with an intimate, voyeuristic sensibility, "Most Beautiful Island" chronicles one harrowing day in the life of Luciana, a young immigrant woman struggling to make ends meet while striving to escape her past. As Luciana's day unfolds, she is whisked, physically and emotionally, through a series of troublesome, unforeseeable extremes. Before her day is done, she inadvertently finds herself a central participant in a cruel game. Lives are placed at risk, while psyches are twisted and broken for the perverse entertainment of a privileged few. The Ballad of Lefty Brown Lefty Brown is a 63 year old sidekick. Loyal, crotchety and rarely taken seriously, he’s ridden with Western legend Eddie Johnson for his entire adult life. Now Johnson has been appointed Senator of Montana, and despite the objections of his spirited wife Laura, he plans to leave Lefty in charge of his ranch. But when a rustler kills Johnson, Lefty is forced from his partner’s shadow. Devastated by guilt, he sets out on a journey that will reunite him with old friends US Marshall Tom Harrah and Governor James Bierce as he confronts the ugly realities of frontier justice. Us and Them With it’s raw energy and stream of consciousness plot, "Us and Them" is a backlash against the drone of British period dramas. Danny is an ordinary working class kid who is tired of the rough deal he faces. His plan? To start a revolution by streaming attacks against the one percent on the web. His goal? To terrify the elite into bringing about change. Writer/director Joe Martin taps into his blue collar roots to capture the zeitgeist of outsider politics that have gripped the western world. In "Us and Them" he lays bare the inequality and anger that wrong footed the media and led to the shock events of Brexit and Trump’s victory. Atomic Blonde The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies. Baby Driver A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. Free Fire Bold, breathless and wickedly fun, "Free Fire" is an electrifying action comedy about an arms deal that goes spectacularly and explosively wrong. Acclaimed filmmaker Ben Wheatley (Kill List, High Rise) propels the audience head-on into quite possibly the most epic shootout ever seen on film as he crafts a spectacular parody –– and biting critique –– of the insanity of gun violence. Everyone’s got a gun, and absolutely no one is in control. Packed with witty one-liners, flamboyant characters and remarkable feats of cinematic gunplay, Free Fire is a full-throttle action extravaganza that keeps things fresh and fun with Wheatley’s alternately buoyant and savage sense of humor.

An old-school spam cropped up in my e-mail in-box this week and caused me to think about advances that spammers have made. In Short Circuits: Microsoft has updated the enterprise version of Windows Defender to provide faster responses to attacks and that has some pundits ... worried. A malware attack on Apple's OS X operating system again shows that Macs can be attacked. The Federal Communications Commission will vote on a plan to make broadband more affordable for low-income households. In Spare Parts (only on the website): At the education section of the South By Southwest Festival, talk about how open education resources are becoming increasingly important in classrooms and Microsoft partners with the NCAA to provide insight into the upcoming March Madness and we hope they don't drop the ball.

In this episode of Worlds of Wayne I am joined once again by the Color Pharmacy. On their way to SXSW they spent 2 days in Omaha and hung out at the house. So we set up the laptop, the handy Blue Snowball mic, and had a lunchtime chat. Color Pharmacy on facebook Video of Aperature After relentless touring in support of their last full-length record, The Color Pharmacy are back with an explosive new album, to be released March 2013. Building on the sound and success of Texatonka (released February 2011 and added at #2 on the CMJ Radio 200 charts) the Minneapolis-based trio tracked The Color Pharmacy over only four days at The Pearl Studios with producer Mark Schwandt (White Light Riot, Usonia). Recorded to analog tape, the new album boasts tightly-crafted songs, catchy hooks, and soaring vocal harmonies to create a sonic atmosphere entirely unique to this genre-bending band. The Color Pharmacy have appeared with many noteworthy artists, including: Adele, Tom Morello’s Street Sweeper Social Club, Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, Ted Leo, Peter Himmelman, and Ben Kweller.
