PART 1/2 All great leaders, thinkers, artists, athletes, and visionaries share one indelible quality. It enables them to conquer their tempers. To avoid distraction and discover great insights. To achieve happiness and do the right thing. Ryan Holiday calls it stillness--to be steady while the world spins around you.In this book, he outlines a path for achieving this ancient, but urgently necessary way of living. Drawing on a wide range of history's greatest thinkers, from Confucius to Seneca, Marcus Aurelius to Thich Nhat Hanh, John Stuart Mill to Nietzsche, he argues that stillness is not mere inactivity, but the doorway to self-mastery, discipline, and focus.Holiday also examines figures who exemplified the power of stillness: baseball player Sadaharu Oh, whose study of Zen made him the greatest home run hitter of all time; Winston Churchill, who in balancing his busy public life with time spent laying bricks and painting at his Chartwell estate managed to save the world from annihilation in the process; Fred Rogers, who taught generations of children to see what was invisible to the eye; Anne Frank, whose journaling and love of nature guided her through unimaginable adversity.More than ever, people are overwhelmed. They face obstacles and egos and competition. Stillness Is the Key offers a simple but inspiring antidote to the stress of 24/7 news and social media. The stillness that we all seek is the path to meaning, contentment, and excellence in a world that needs more of it than ever. Can ancient philosophy be the key to modern success? Ryan Holiday, a leading thinker of his generation, believes so. From NFL quarterbacks to corporate CEOs, many credit Holiday's work with introducing them to the transformative power of Stoic philosophy. In this episode, Ryan talks to Guy about the teachings of the Stoics through the lens of Holiday's influential books, including The Obstacle Is The Way, Ego Is The Enemy, Stillness Is The Key, and, most recently Right Thing, Right Now. These aren't just bestsellers—they're respected works that have left a lasting impact on leaders and entrepreneurs around the world. But Ryan Holiday's journey wasn't always about philosophy. Before becoming a celebrated author and podcaster (The Daily Stoic) he started his career in marketing, a field that would shape his first book and inform parts of many others. This conversation was recorded in 2021.

Healing is a beautiful thing. After my recent knee surgery to clean up bone spurs and scar tissue in my left knee, I was dialed-into healing at the deepest level. Based on your questions and feedback (I listen to all of them), I have decided to provide you with my complete healing & recovery protocol to expedite healing and maximize my recovery post-surgery. This includes my 6 “secret” hacks to expedite healing. My hope is that you learn some things to prevent surgery…or that you are well-equipped for your own healing post-injury or even your own surgery someday.    In this podcast, I will share why the heck I had to have another knee surgery, what I did to prepare for surgery, and my complete routine (physical, nutritional, supplement, modalities, hacks, etc.) during the post-recovery process. This includes:    - Why I believe this knee issue started just 6-weeks after my knee replacement in December 2020. - Why and how my back issues contributed to all this. - What to do to potentially prevent the need for surgery. This is something most people won't think about who might be facing a knee replacement. - My 3 “phases” or stages of recovery (Through 12 weeks and beyond) - My complete nutrition and supplement routine. - The modalities that I used and highly recommend. - 6 “secret” biohacks that are key in my healing right now! - The importance of mindset in all this and how to stay positive when you are in pain.   I know this episode of the IMPACT SHOW is going to help people who are in pain, facing surgery, or need help with healing/recovery. Please be sure to SHARE it with your friends, family, colleagues, and your community on social media.    WARNING! This is my story, and I am sharing unfiltered ALL that I am doing, will be doing, or have done during what I call the “3-phases of post-surgery” healing. These are the things that I have incorporated into my post-surgery recovery routine after a lot of research and consulting with my doctor and other specialists. Please consult with your own doctors, medical specialists, and health experts to determine your best treatment plan for healing and recovery as well.   Some of the things I share are free and will cost no money; others have an associated cost similar to what you'd pay for supplements; some of the hacks I share can get pricey. In this episode, Jake & Paul review the concepts brought forth by author, Ryan Holiday in Stillness Is The Key. Favorite Quotes: “Who is so talented that they can afford to bring only part of themselves to bear on a problem or opportunity?  Whose relationships are so strong that they can get away with not showing up?  Who is so certain that they'll get another moment that they can confidently skip over this one?  The less energy we waste regretting the past or worrying about the future, the more energy we will have for what's in front of us.” “All of humanity's problems,” Blaise Pascal said in 1654, “stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone.” “If you wish to improve,” Epictetus once said, “be content to appear clueless or stupid in extraneous matters.” “We are restless because deep in our hearts we know now that our happiness is found elsewhere, and our work, no matter how valuable it is to us or to others, cannot take its place. But we hurry on anyway, and attend to our business because we need to matter, and we don't always realize we already do.” “We have to do the kind of thinking that 99 percent of the population is just not doing, and we have to stop doing the destructive thinking that they spend 99 percent of their time doing.”
