Big Draft Brewing is helping to bring small town West Virginia back to life Big Draft Brewing is located in the tiny town of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Population 3,000, give or take. The town, and the larger Greenbrier Valley community, has faced some hard times in recent years. The opioid epidemic chipped away at the community and the "1,000 year flood" of 2016 caused widespread destruction and loss of life. Our show this week is as much about the tenacity of the residents of White Sulphur Springs as it is about beer. You'll have to humor me, this one is kind of personal. My family is from White Sulphur Springs and I spent some of my childhood Summers there. It's a close community with strong family ties. Turns out, by complete chance, my family ties run right to Big Draft Brewing. It's quite a story so make sure to listen in to hear the full scoop. Founders David Bostic, Clay Elkins, and JW Groseclose join us on the show this week to talk about their brewery and the overall revitalization of their town. They've built up a city block with Big Draft Brewing, a BBQ spot, a cafe and coffee house, and a concert hall and events venue. They intend to grow it as as destination that reaches far beyond the city line. But we do talk about beer plenty as well. JW is the brewmaster and his goal is to make classic and approachable beers that everyone can enjoy. We sampled the Foreman American Lager, Sudsy's Pale Ale, Bo Red Bohemian Red, and the seasonal Festbier and can vouch for all of them. There are barrel-aged beers in the works, a saison in the fermenters, and some mad scientist brew utilizing ramps (the wild vegetable) in the works. In addition to tasty beer and BBQ the crew tells us about the fishing, hunting, hiking, and off-roading adventures in the area. Sounds like a great time all around. I better get on those country roads now. Side note.... you may not know White Sulphur Springs by name but you may have heard of The Greenbrier Resort. It's got quite a story, you should check it out. If you're a gamer and a fan of Fallout 76, you might recognize the Greenbrier as The Whitespring Resort.

Trying to reduce dog shedding is... an eternal struggle. If you have a short-haired dog (or almost any dog for that matter), shedding is part of the dog parent experience! And no, you cannot stop a dog from shedding. Period. It's not possible. If you find any type of product or supplement that claims to stop shedding, avoid it! In this episode, I'm going to break down 3 main things you can do to reduce your dog's shedding. #1- Coat Health Dog shedding is natural but ensuring your pup's coat health is in top shape can reduce shedding. Make sure your dog's getting enough Omega's in their diet or with an added supplement. Our dog's overall nutrition and health affect shedding in many ways! #2- Brush Regularly How often you need to brush your dog will depend on the breed, but most dogs should be brushed at least a couple of times per week. For some dogs, it may need to be done more frequently. Regularly brushing helps to pull out the loose hair from your dog's coat. While you may not see dramatic results right away, consistency will help reduce your dog's shedding. #3- Bathing Routine A consistent bathing routine can also help to reduce how much your dog sheds! If you're dealing with a LOT of shedding, It's important to use a shampoo that can aid in reducing shedding. I have two Labrador Retrievers who shed more than you can imagine. And above all, the thing that has helped the most with their shedding is Sudsy. It's an all-natural shampoo bar with a combination of ingredients that seriously help reduce shedding. My dog Scout sheds off so much more of her coat when we use Sudsy for baths. You can check out Sudsy (available in 2 scents) here: https://pfrd.site/sudsy-here The other important part of a healthy bathing routine is to blow dry your dog. It's best to use a dog-specific blow dryer if possible. The high-powered vacuums work to clear out as much loose hair and undercoat as possible. If you want to use a normal hairdryer, be sure to do it on warm or cool and not on hot. The high heat can cause damage to your dog's coat. And the 3rd step of a successful de-shedding bath routine must include brushing your dog. That last step of brushing will help pull out any final hairs still waiting to be shed. So your bathing routine should consist of the following. -Use a shampoo formulated to reduce shedding -Dry dog completely, preferably with a dog-specific hairdryer -Completely brush your dog out Following that routine has reduced my dog's shedding more than anything else! Bonus Tip- Treatments at the Groomer If you have an extreme shedder in your house, it could be worth taking your pup into a groomer for a full de-shedding. Prices will vary depending on where you live, but it's likely only something you'll need to do a couple of times each year. Personal Life-Hack: Get a Robot Vacuum This isn't necessarily going to reduce shedding, but investing in a robot vacuum is a life-saver in a house with dogs. Happy Full House Fuller House Friday Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. Today, I covered the last entry in the Back To School Part 2 Series with Fuller House S4E7: President Fuller, which aired on December 14, 2018. In this episode Max runs for fourth-grade class president - but his girlfriend Rose is running, too. DJ tries to make up with CJ, and Steph picks a fight with a clown. I really enjoyed this episode and I feel Max learns a valuable lesson about what's more important friends or winning. We see a side of Max in the episode that feels a little out of context, I'm referring to the video he made of Rose, it could be looked at as a smear campaign but I see this as a form of bullying and I really think DJ should have addressed it as such, this scene reminded me of when Popko made that humiliating video of Ramona as a dancing hippo and uploaded it for the world to see. The just doesn't seem like a Max thing to do, that he would stoop that low to hurt someone just to get ahead in this class presidential race. We also have DJ looking for closure and unburdening herself as she tries and fails to get CJ to listen to her apology about ruining her and Steve's wedding in Japan. Surprisingly enough, CJ also has grievances to unload on DJ, so she can finally shut the book on this chapter of her life and move on. Fun times are had when Stephanie and Sudsy the Clown go head to head in a who's the better children's entertainer rock battle between her guitar and his accordian. MEDICAL TRIGGER WARNING: TIMESTAMP 1: 1 Hour 14 Minute Mark to 1 Hour 21 Minute Mark TIMESTAMP 2: 1 Hour 44 Minute Mark to 1 Hour 51 Minute Mark This episode's side plot has Becky and Danny doing a segment for Wake Up San Francisco on preventative health care in the form of a colostomy procedure, which is discussed at length. I do my best to give those of you who struggle with medical triggers a heads up when the scene starts and ends so you can skip over that part. So I was thinking about the series of episodes I wanted to cover for the final month of 2020 and then one day it just hit me, I started 2020 with the Jesse & Becky: A Love Story Arc, so it only seems fitting to end this year with them, coming December 2020 to a Full House Podcast Near You: Jesse & Becky: The Next Chapter: New Parents I'll be covering the first episode in that series, Full House S5E11: Nicky and/ or Alex, which aired on November 19, 1991. In this episode Back home from the hospital, Jesse can't tell his identical twin sons, Nicky and Alex, apart. Meanwhile, Danny likes his new, temporary co-host, Vicky Larson. From 1991-1999, Dan McCabe booked local and national bands (and tended bar, and cleaned the washing machines) at the late, great Sudsy Malone's on Short Vine, fronting his own money to book the national acts. Decades later, he's still promoting great live music, as co-owner of MOTR Pub and The Woodward Theater in Over-the-Rhine. Dan shares some amazing memories from his Sudsy's days (Morphine, Jesus Lizard, Mercury Rev... and Reverend blood on the sidewalk), and talks about why indie venues are crucial to up-and-coming bands. MOTR and The Woodward, like many indie venues across the country, have been shuttered by COVID-19 and need our help. All of us can #SaveOurStages by taking action (writing congresspeople, donating to an indie venue emergency relief fund, etc.) at NIVAssoc.org. (This episode also features special guest appearances from Rictile and Howard Cohen.)

In this episode of the CYLS, Lachena Clark gives us her top strategies for entrepreneurial survival, tips of how to get the community involved in your business, how to invest in great partnerships and how to study the market to gauge risk. Tips from Lachena: Don’t stop... manage your fear, guilt and shame. Understand even your employees are human and will make mistakes. You can’t just be a researcher you have to make a decision to do something, you have to shoot the gun. Look for business relationships that will have longevity, Go into business relationships that you only want to end a partnership if the person dies or retires. Study your market and understand what is being offered by competitors around you. Go out and see whats’s happening in the neighborhood and research the cost of goods. Ask about both sides of what if, what if something goes wrong and what if something goes right.
