The inspiration for the pairing on this week's Talkhouse Podcast goes back 40 years, to one of the greatest concert films—maybe the greatest concert film—ever made, Stop Making Sense. We've got Jerry Harrison and Carlos Arévalo. Harrison was of course the keyboard player and sometimes guitarist behind one of the most influential and groundbreaking bands of the 1970s and 80s, Talking Heads. The band's legacy can't be overstated; they made eight incredible studio albums before splitting up in 1991, they're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and their impact on both other musicians and the culture at large has been enormous. And in addition to all of those studio records, Talking Heads—along with director Jonathan Demme—made Stop Making Sense, the audacious live document of the band from 1983. The film was lovingly restored for its 40th anniversary last year, with both the visuals and audio painstakingly refreshed—the latter in no small part due to Harrison's efforts. Celebrating this reissue has been the closest thing to a Talking Heads reunion that the world has ever seen—or likely will see. They've gotten onstage together to talk about it, but the likelihood of them playing together again seems very slim. But during the band's tenure and even more so afterward, Harrison made a career for himself as a producer for other bands, manning the boards for some incredibly successful records, some of which you'll hear about in today's chat. From Live to No Doubt and beyond, he's had a hand in some really big ones. Along with the Stop Making Sense re-release came a star-studded tribute album called Everyone's Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense, and that's where today's other guest comes in. The album features contributions from heavy hitters like Paramore, Lorde, and The National, but one of the best tracks is by Arévalo's band, Chicano Batman. The Los Angeles group has been around since 2008, mixing up a genre-defiant stew of psychedelia and R&B with bits of indie-rock and Latin flair. On the trio's latest album, Notebook Fantasy, they stretch out a bit more than usual, allowing some extra breathing room for the songs. That's not necessarily the case for their contribution to the Talking Heads tribute album, though: They do a pretty faithful rendition of the frenetic “Crosseyed and Painless,” re-creating its indelible groove and then adding their own flavor. Check out that cover right here. In this conversation, Harrison and Arévalo talk about how Chicano Batman approached their Talking Heads cover—including the special guests they brought in to help. Then Arévalo, a budding producer himself, picks Harrison's brain about some of the records he's produced over the years, from Live to Les Butcherettes to No Doubt. Great stories abound, enjoy. 0:00 – Intro 2:34 – Start of the chat 4:06 – Jerry's thoughts on Chicano Batman's cover 8:28 – Talking about Jerry's production work, starting with the first Live album 19:20 – Carlos on Notebook Fantasy and studio techniques 24:05 – Producing No Doubt's "New" 34:40 – Jerry loses his car while mixing "Girlfriend is Better" 38:45 – On how Chicano Batman's cover of "Crosseyed and Painless" came to be Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Jerry Harrison and Carlos Arévalo for chatting. Send us a Text Message.Hi everybody and welcome to this week's episode of Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. Today's guest is Steven Gripp, the creator of the Phish Mapping Project. Steven is here today to tell about one of his favorite segments of Live Phish he's ever witnessed: “46 Days>The Dogs>46 Days” from the Austin 360 Amphitheater on July 28, 2015, in Austin Texas.Steven and I also talk quite a bit about his project: If you're a nerdy fan like me who could spend hours down a wormhole on Phish.net or used to read and re-read the Pharmer's Almanac, the Phish Mapping Project is right up your alley. Basically, Steven took years of research and meticulous mapping of every Phish show on record and created an interactive worldwide digital map of their history, using Google Tours and Google Maps. If you have a favorite show but always wanted to know what the venue looked like, or where it actually is, the Phish Mapping Project has you covered. There are more dimensions to it than I could explain here, but that's why we have Steven here to tell us about all the angles of this magnificent contribution to the Phish fan experience. In addition, we cannot forget the 46 Days/The Dogs musical sandwich that Steven brought to the episode. The summer 2015 tour peak Phish, and even an “average great” show would have highlights that would stand out when all was said and done. This power rock combination certainly meets that criteria and after all, who doesn't love a flawless segue? So let's join Steven to talk about 1993 Phish, the best versions of Crosseyed and Painless, and Phish in the Lone Star State as we discuss “46 Days>The Dogs>46 Days” from July 28, 2015 at the Austin 360 Amphitheater. „Psycho killer“, „Once in a lifetime“ oder „Burning down the house“ wurden Klassiker. Februar. Peters Playlist für Talking Heads (I): Talking Heads: 77 (1977): Uh-oh, love comes to town, New feeling, The book I read, Don't worry about the government, Psycho killer, Pulled up More Songs About Buildings And Food (1978): Thank you for sending me an angel, Found a job, Take me to the river, The Big Country Fear Of Music (1979): I zimbra, Cities, Life during wartime, Heaven, Drugs Remain In Light (1980): Born under punches (The heat goes on), Crosseyed and painless, Once in a lifetime, Houses in motion, Listening wind Speaking In Tongues (1983): Burning down the house, Slippery people, Moon rocks, There must be the place (Naive melody)

The Dad Joke King Episode 5This is the Real Kevin Richardson and welcome to the dad joke king. The home of the sometimes-funny dad joke, but I wouldn't count on it. In todays show, I have sad news to share. I have a joke about a cross eyed teacher and a girl who broke up with me. Then we've got the rapid fire dad joke medley and a parenting tip about reading to your toddler that you will not want to miss. Let's do that thang... Before we get started I wanted to do something a little different and take time to share with you, that's right…. I have sad news.  My maintenance man lost his legs at work. Now he is just a handy man. Did you hear about the crossed eye teacher? He couldn't control his pupils. Alright, here is the Dad joke of the week…My girlfriend broke up with me because I stole her wheel chair.  Don't worry! She'll come crawling back! It's now time for the dad joke medley….   What did Tennessee, the same thing Arkansas. What is the biggest pencil in the world? Pennsylvania.  What did Delaware? Her New Jersey.  What country do cows love to visit? Moo Zealand.  What state does the most laundry? Washington.  What is the biggest pan in the world? Japan.  Where do hamsters come from? Hamsterdam.  What kind of cows do you find in Alaska? Eskimoos! Ireland's capital is the fastest growing city. Every year it's Dublin.  Before we go let me give you some advice. Your parenting tip of the week is… To make yourself seem like a better dad, tell your toddler that you wrote every book that you ever read to them. They are not that smart.  Your challenge is to Visit me at DadJokeKing.com and click on the tell a dad joke button and tell me a dad joke. We have a growing community on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and this podcast and I want to hear from you.  Thanks for listening to the Dad Joke King. Visit https://www.dadjokeking.com/ (DadJokeKing.com) for more sometimes funny dad jokes, but I wouldn't count on it.   See ya! After ShowCongratulations you made it to the after show or maybe I should say I'm sorry. This is where I talk about nothing so feel free to skip if you do not want to hear me ramble on. This past week I had a scary and stressful time as a dad. That's right, I took my 16 year old daughter to take her drivers test.  Of course I was worried that she may wreck or that she would do something that would cause her to fail the test, but I may have been more worried about did I do enough to teach her how to drive or to get her ready for the test.  So, right before the test I was doing a crash course on parking. Okay, crash course is a poor choice of words, but I was trying to make sure she was really comfortable parking, but it turns out the test was just a quick loop on the road and didn't really involve any parking, so she passed.  Now she has to pass me much harder test before I let her drive by herself and she also has to be 40.   I want to thank Haley Snow for leaving a 5 star review and I want to thank you for being here. You make this fun.  Don't forget to visit dadjokeking.com and click on the button to tell me your favorite dad joke.  See you next week.

No alleged printed ‘word of God’ has more value than the one who contemplates them. Words ‘leading to god’ discover a different ‘god’ than you knew ‘prior to birth’. So who have you given your power away to? We know that words drop breadcrumbs that lead to a false god, that's why we ask, 'which words have you eaten, and which ones have you followed?' Yes, The language and symbols provided to you are suggestions from other Wills. Your higher self would like you to unlearn, so that you might increase your awareness. Jethro Tull Goes Digital on Late Era. This week, the guys look at Jethro Tull's final album, at least to date, called J-Tull Dot Com. The album title also served as an ad for the band's then-new official website. A truly strange album, it features occasional lyrics about e-mail, tons of flute solos (naturally), a Donald Trump reference, and one of the most heinous album covers ever released. Subscribe to Late Era. Above the Waves on Touchdowns All Day. Guest Max Dawson joins Barber to do a deep dive on Above the Waves, a part of the Hot Air Balloon opera that Barber composed. It's one of the most underrated jams of the entire 3.0 era, and a precursor to the nuanced jamming styles of the Fall 2014 Tour. Subscribe to Beyond the Pond. Black Sabbath on Tapes Archive. In Episode 101 we’re joined by a fantastic DJ and massive music collector, Wade Wilby for a lively discussion on the drumming of Jon Fishman, the larger breakbeat history & culture, and how Phish has incorporated breakbeats into their sound. According to Wikipedia, “The most likely origin of the word “breakbeat” is the fact that the drum loops that were sampled occurred during a “break” in the music, as in the Amen break, which is a drum solo from “Amen, Brother” by The Winstons. However, it is a common thought that the name derives from the beat being “broken” and unpredictable compared to other percussive styles, something which is also reflected in the name of the related genre broken beat. Whether this was part of the original meaning of the word or is purely a folk etymology remains unclear, but it is safe to say that the term has evolved to encompass both sentiments.” Beginning with the most notable Phish breakbeat track, “Birds Of A Feather,” we examine the band’s usage of this technique before diving into the history of breakbeat culture & its impact on popular music. Wade is a fantastic host who guides us through a world we’ve loosely touched on on BTP, but never fully dived into. This week we are joined by a return guest, Wally Holland, who helps us run through what we're calling "turning points" in Phish history. This is a two-part episode, because obviously, there are lots of turning points in the history of the band. The idea for this episode started with a Twitter conversation, sparked by yet again another listen to the Baker's Dozen Lawn Boy. We talk about many turning points—let us know what you think, we're eager to hear what you would have included. And join us next week for part 2, as we pick up from 1997 through the present.
