Monitoring and modifying are the two essential elements of regulation. ~ Dr. Dan SiegelWhen we really understand what makes up the skill of self-regulation, we can be more intentional about helping our kids develop those skills. We can also be more understanding and compassionate when they aren't able to use those skills! This episode explores the skills of monitoring (noticing) and modifying (changing) our level of arousal and activation as the main ingredients of self-regulation.Remember that self-regulation can only develop with enough co-regulation. But once there is a strong foundation of co-regulation, we can encourage our kids to develop the skills to notice and change (when appropriate or needed!) their level of arousal. In this episode, you'll learnThe main ingredients of self-regulation- monitor & modifyHow to scaffold up to teaching kids to monitor and modifyHow to have appropriate expectations about your child's ability to monitor and modify, even after they have learned the skillsResources mentioned in this podcast:The Whole-Brain Child - Dr. Dan SiegalNo-Drama Discipline - Dr. Dan SiegalRead the full transcript at: RobynGobbel.com/ingredientFollow Me On:FacebookInstagramOver on my website you can find:Webinar and eBook on Focus on the Nervous System to Change Behavior (FREE)eBook on The Brilliance of Attachment (FREE)LOTS & LOTS of FREE ResourcesOngoing support, connection, and co-regulation for struggling parents: The ClubYear-Long Immersive & Holistic Training Program for Parenting Professionals: Being WithThe Club is welcoming new members now until Friday!Head to RobynGobbel.com/TheClub for details and to join us!::: :::Buy Raising Kids with Big, Baffling Behaviors at RobynGobbel.com/BafflingBookJoin The Club (or get on the waiting list!) over at RobynGobbel.com/TheClubHop on the waiting list for Being With- an immersive professional training program exploring the neurobiology of big, baffling behaviors at RobynGobbel.com/BeingWith
Medical trauma can feel confusing because in many circumstances, we are seeking out the very medical interventions that our kids experience as traumatic. Trauma is in the eye of the beholder. Some kids experience trauma due to their time in the NICU. Some kids experience trauma at the dentist. Some kids experience trauma due to an emergency or accident. Much of the time, parents feel helpless or even guilty for ‘causing' the trauma. All behavior makes sense and no behavior is maladaptive- in the moment that behavior emerges.Of course, the IMPACT of the behavior might be maladaptive and absolutely many behaviors need to change. But understanding that all behavior makes perfect sense at the moment it emerges is the lynchpin in offering folks co-regulation, connection, and felt-safety.In this episode, you'll learnHow all brains create realityThe brain's most important jobThe most effective path to take if you want to see behavior changeRead the full transcript at: RobynGobbel.com/allbehaviormakessenseFollow Me On:FacebookInstagramOver on my website you can find:Webinar and eBook on Focus on the Nervous System to Change Behavior (FREE)eBook on The Brilliance of Attachment (FREE)LOTS & LOTS of FREE ResourcesOngoing support, connection, and co-regulation for struggling parents: The ClubYear-Long Immersive & Holistic Training Program for Parenting Professionals: Being WithThe Club is OPEN for new members from now until October 8, 2024 (until we reach capacity).RobynGobbel.com/TheClub for all the details and to join! :::::Want to pick Robyn's brain, hang out with her in Zoom meetings and a forum you can access in an app? Whiplash. You probably know what I mean. You start to be lulled into a life with fewer meltdowns, or less intensity. Then BOOM. An old behavior seems to explode out of nowhere. You're right back to feeling like everything's awful or it'll never get better or you'll have to live like this forever. You might even be frustrated with yourself that you let yourself ‘relax.'All of these experiences are completely normal for folks who love someone with a chronic condition that occasionally flares- which is what a vulnerable nervous system is.In this episode, you'll learnThe whiplash and why we feel itWhy our kids seem to attack outta no whereWhy these moments feel like everything is as worse as ever- but it probably isn'tWhy it's GOOD we can finally rest, even if it does leave us feeling unprotected and whiplashedRead the full transcript at: RobynGobbel.com/whiplashFollow Me On:FacebookInstagramOver on my website you can find:Webinar and eBook on Focus on the Nervous System to Change Behavior (FREE)eBook on The Brilliance of Attachment (FREE)LOTS & LOTS of FREE ResourcesOngoing support, connection, and co-regulation for struggling parents: The ClubYear-Long Immersive & Holistic Training Program for Parenting Professionals: Being WithThe Club is OPEN for new members from now until October 8, 2024 (until we reach capacity).RobynGobbel.com/TheClub for all the details and to join! :::::Want to pick Robyn's brain, hang out with her in Zoom meetings and a forum you can access in an app? This episode originally aired on December 22, 2020, episode 8:::I love love love talking about self-compassion for two main reasons. #1- Self-Compassion is solidly anchored in the relational neurosciences- and you know how much I love...and need...for things to be anchored in science. #2- Self-compassion has tenacity. There's no way out. Self-compassion has an answer for all your reasons why you aren't worthy of self-compassion. I love that about self-compassion (probably because people describe me as tenacious- especially, relationally). In this episode, we will explore the science of self-compassion. We'll look at why compassion is the neurobiology of change. Why you deserve compassion. Why compassion is how the brain heals and changes. Compassion can feel risky- and I'll give you the science that might help you feel safe enough to take the vulnerable step toward self-compassion.To read more about self-compassion, visit robyngobbel.com/selfcompassionThe Club is open to new members now until Friday May 3!The Club is a virtual community for parents of kids with vulnerable nervous systems and big, baffling behaviors. Kids with vulnerable nervous systems often say BIG, hurtful, and scary words. They say things like “I hate you!” or “You hate me!” They sometimes threaten to hurt themselves- or you! Verbal aggression almost always pulls us right onto the watchdog pathway ourselves- which is understandable. Let's talk about how you might respond if you're able to hang onto your owl brain. In this episode, you'll learnTo stay focused on the level of activation, not the words being saidWhat to say (if anything) back to statements like “I hate you,” “I wish you'd never adopted me,” or “I'm going to hurt you.” How to start listening for what's really being expressedResources mentioned in this podcast:Match The Energy, NOT The Dysregulation {EP 155}Read the full transcript at: RobynGobbel.com/hateFollow Me On:FacebookInstagramOver on my website you can find:Webinar and eBook on Focus on the Nervous System to Change Behavior (FREE)eBook on The Brilliance of Attachment (FREE)LOTS & LOTS of FREE ResourcesOngoing support, connection, and co-regulation for struggling parents: The ClubYear Long Immersive & Holistic Training Program for Parenting Professionals: Being WithThe Club is OPEN NOW for new members! Looking for practical strategies to nourish a fried nervous system?Living with someone who has significant vulnerability in their nervous system can lead to a sensitized stress response system, resulting in unpredictable and sometimes unsafe behaviors. This can leave our own nervous systems in a state of distress. Join THE CLUB Discord Channel : https://discord.gg/n5YRwrBJhJ Ogie & Jeeves Twitter : https://twitter.com/HidayahAnka1 Haris Exalatic Twitter : https://twitter.com/theHarisSusanto Helllo from the Metaverse! It has been a while! Very happy to meet again in Episode 5.. We are very happy indeed. Lots have changed and many moments has passed, again a Happy New Year to you all. Today topic is clearly the Main Pillars of Star Atlas. What are we covering today Haris? Today we will cover the Pillars of Gameplay inside Star Atlas, which means what we can do inside the Star Atlas Metaverse. I'm excited! How about you Ogie? Ofcourse I am also, there are lots of things we can do inside Star Atlas metaverse, what's the first one Haris? Faction Security Zones is one of the big one, we all already know that we have Three Main Factions inside the Game. And we will be able to fight on Combat inside Three Zones that have different Consequences. There are Safe Zone – where our Assets are safe even if we lose battle, then there's Medium Security where we can get our Assets reset if we lose. Last one is the Wild Frontier where we can lose all or partial of our assets in space. Security Zones are exciting indeed, the more risk we take, the bigger the rewards right? But even if we do not like combat, there's the Deep Space Exploration where we can manually fly our ship and detect a lot of hidden treasures in the entire Space. Oh my, the idea of manually fly our ship in the Metaverse excites me very much. But isn't it still dangerous to go on deep space exploration, Ogie? Yes it will, but Combat has always been the main Feature in Star Atlas. Do not worry though, there are mechanism to keep everything balance. There are ways to show Player's stance if they want to fight or not, and surely there will be mechanism to defend the disadvantage players within Combat. Surely there must be right? But if we do not like these risks, we can always stay at a Planet or Station also. There are lots of things we can do with Station Modular Construction as Structure Owned NFT put in a Planet. Really? What are these things we can do? I heard we can create a lot of Modules and Functions inside our owned Structure? Yes, there are a lot like making Hangar, Cargo, Universities, Refinery, Commerce & Retail, Shipyard to produce and create a lot of items inside Star Atlas and trade them. These features will be very exciting. Because other than Ship NFTs we can do more with Structure-owned NFT and explore more other gameplays. Do you have one already Haris? Unfortunately I have not, some early-adopters have some of them though, and maybe soon they are tradeable in the Market. Surely we need to get some! Hahaha Ofcourse we have to! But not just that, Haris. There are other things to consider like Components and Crews to Upgrade our Ships. I might consider more on completing my ships before going into Stations. Thats actually a good idea! Especially when we can have different kind of Professions in-game, so we should customize our ship to meet our Profession right? Like being a Data-Runner will need more Agility on the ship, and Industrialist might need more CargoBay inside the ship? Yes, that is one way to think about it. But in Star Atlas, we also play as a Community in a Guild which is a Decentralized Autonomous Corporation. That sounds complicated. What's that? It is actually just a normal Guild or Community of Players playing together. That's why when we need something we can do it together. We can find haulers inside our Guild or maybe a Combat Specialist to escort our Stations. And not just that, with a DAC inside Blockchain Metaverse, we can achieve more with legitimacy or Ownership to access and change things like taxes or restrictions inside the game Assets. Wow, Star Atlas actually offers a lot of things in the long run! I am excited! That is why we at TheClub are very passionate and support Star Atlas, because with lots of features to offer, there has to be an Economy that runs the Metaverse right? Right! Then that's when we can start earning not just Assets and Money but Real Moneyyy! I am SUPER EXCITED! That's it! These are the things that Star Atlas want to offer to everybody in Long Term. So for everyone listening, do not be late to join the Community as soon as possible! Yes! We are very excited to see you all in Star Atlas and especially inside TheClub Guild Community. Self-regulation is a crucial developmental milestone and I'm thrilled that we are turning our eyes toward self-regulation instead of staying focused on behavior modification through rewards and consequences. At the same time, we must remember that self-regulation is developed through repeated and regular experiences of co-regulation with an attuned, regulated, present caregiver. If children are struggling to use their self-regulation skills, it's quite possible that they aren't regulated enough to access those skills. They are getting dysregulated too quickly and need co-regulation before they can be expected to use skills on their own. It is these experiences of coregulation that build the neural circuity for what is ultimately labeled self-regulation...so you don't need to worry that the continued offering of co-regulation will impede the development of self-regulation- it's exactly the opposite!!!Humans never outgrow their need for co-regulation! We all need connection and co-regulation! Which is exactly why I've created The Club- a new virtual community for parents of kids impacted by trauma! The Club opens on December 31, 2020 and remains open until January 8, 2021. At that time, it will close for new members for approximately three months so the founding members have time to co-create a solid community culture. Head over to www.RobynGobbel.com/TheClub to read all the details, join the waiting list, or sign up (between Dec. 31 & Jan. 8, 2021!).**************If you are new to the science of connection and regulation, you'll want to grab my free masterclass on Regulation, Connection, and Felt-Safety at www.RobynGobbel.com/masterclass **********There are so many benefits (and no drawbacks!) to teaching kids and teens about the brain. I'll give you simple, fun ways to Teach Kids about their Awesome Brain. This 1.5 hour webinar airs live on Wed Oct 20. Everyone who registers will receive the recording so you don't have to attend live! CLICK HERE.

Like many of my guests, I followed them for years! This week's chat with one of the founders of @TheClub is one I thought never possible such is their following and influence on golf's image in the modern day. I really enjoyed sitting down, remotely, with Ryan Curtis co-founder of @TheClub and discussing everything from early days of picking a make shift club up to how golf can change for the good. If you aren't following The Club you can do so here: Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheClub Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wetheclub Website: https://theclub.media
Ryan is the man behind #TheClub (https://theclub.media/) who have picked up over 150,000 followers on Twitter & Instagram since 2013.Ryan's sometimes controversial but always thought provoking attitude to all aspects of the game, from the top of the Pro game down to the dress codes and rules that our local Clubs operate with which he puts out into the World using mediums from social media to his own podcast.Ryan has also launched a very successful Mental Health charitable organisation where he seeks to improve the mental health of the Nation through the medium of golf.Ryan had an interesting viewpoint regarding the current petition to re-open golf courses during the COVID-19 Winter Lockdown. As always, his reasoning will absolutely make you question your own opinion on this and so many matters relating to golf.A pleasure to host!

Today's Guest: Tommy Ford, star of the faith-based web TV series "The Club" and co-star of the long-running Martin Lawrence sitcom "Martin." Just received news that comedic actor Tommy Ford, friend and co-star of the long-running Martin Lawrence sitcom “Martin,” died suddenly today (October 12, 2016)at the age of 52. Ford was a guest on my Mr. Media in October 2015. He was a charming, delightful man and I’m saddened by his passing. For a reminder of his talent and bigger than life personality, enjoy the reposting of this interview. #RIPTommyFord TOMMY FORD podcast excerpt: “Martin Lawrence and I are still friends; I just saw him perform in Atlanta. Those friendships don’t stop… Even when he co-starred with Kelsey Grammar!”
Today's Guest: Tommy Ford, star of the faith-based web TV series "The Club" and co-star of the long-running Martin Lawrence sitcom "Martin.” TOMMY FORD podcast excerpt: "Reverend Holmes was preaching a sermon and a guy jumped up in the middle and said, 'The Lord directs your steps? Did the Lord direct you to have sex with my wife? And so many other wives in this congregation? Was that the Lord, buddy?' And he pulls out a guy and approaches the Reverend. There is a struggle in the pulpit. The gun goes off and the husband is killed. Instantly, Reverend Holmes realizes, 'I disrespected my calling, I disrespected God, I disrespected my wife, I disrespected the ministry, I disrespected all of my members.' And he is sorry.” Key interview moments: • 3:45 Tommy Ford on whether there are similarities between the ministry and being an actor; • 12:30 An explanation of how "The Club" can be described as a faith-based comedy despite featured a scandalous storyline and often using coarse language about women and sexuality; • 31:35 Yes, Tommy Ford and Martin Lawrence are still very good friends.
