The Dairy Shrine's 50th Anniversary included an invitation to share what you think was the most significant "advancement" in the industry during that 50-year period (1949 - 1999). This resulted in a collection of 77 letters, each highlighting and explaining what the author thought was most responsible for the dairy industry moving forward. The binder that houses these thoughts and so much more is housed at the Hoard's Museum and Dairy Shrine Museum in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Today's guest on The Dairy Show is Steve Larson, former managing editor of Hoard's Dairyman. Steve shares Dairy Shrine insights, museum "must-sees", sheds some light on why a trip to Fort Atkinson is worth your while, and he reveals the top five things that propelled our industry forward between 1949 and 1999. Tune in to see if you agree with what he thinks might be the most important recent industry milestones!

SPOILER ALERT: Yes, absolutely, someone DID put "Islands on the Stream" on their Top Five List. Now we can all relax. This is the second-to-last (I think) episode in our Country Music Series, and we do hope y'all have enjoyed these. At the very least, you might have heard a new(er) country song that you hadn't heard before or even discovered an artist that you think you kind of like now. I know that for sure happened to me - Annie and I have some very different tastes in this arena, although we DID have a bit of overlap. If you're thinking that country music duets have been around forever, you are absolutely right! Male and female country artists began recording duets together as early as the 1930s. Artists like Jimmie Davis and Kate Smith recorded "Beautiful Texas" in 1933, setting a precedent for cross-gender duets in country music. This practice became more common in the following decades with various artists collaborating on duets. The Country Music Association (CMA) began awarding the Vocal Event of the Year category in 1988. This category recognizes special collaborations or featured performances in country music. While many of the winners are duets, not all of them are exclusively male/female duets. The category has included a variety of collaborations, which can involve multiple artists or groups coming together for a single performance. The first winner of the CMA Award for Vocal Event of the Year in 1988 was the song "Streets of Bakersfield," a duet by Dwight Yoakam and Buck Owens. And, uh....DUH. Of course there's a playlist!!! Enjoy!
Hour 2: Chris shares a tidbit from his past than surprises Donny. Is this the best Steelers defense in over a decade? Chris says it's the best since 2008. Is the NFL actively working against the Steelers having defensive success? The guys continue talking about the Steelers' defense and its potential. Is the team doing the right thing giving big opportunities to their rookies? Chris said the Steelers are getting with the times because they are. Donny names a surprising rookie he wants to see a lot of in preseason games. Chris has an impromptu top-five list and for him and Donny.

This week we're returning to a Top Five List from the very beginning of this journey - and it kept getting pushed aside in the importance list, so it was great to get back to this early list and talk about our favorite Alien Horror Films! This show is a total anomaly in The Top Five Podcast - Kris and Annie and NO overlap! Annie had movies on her list that I didn't have on mine AND that neither of us had seen. I'm seeing a Kris and Annie Film Festival at our next in-person visit! It's crazy to think that this is Episode 42, and we're getting closer to Episode 50!!! That means it's time for a celebration! So send us your ideas for how to celebrate!!! Send us an email at hello@thetopfivepodcast.com

Yes, we're a little late in posting this but it's mostly because there's been a lot going on in my day job since Veteran's Day happened - but hopefully you were able to catch us LIVE on Instagram that day - Annie, Doug, and Heather helped me out by sharing their Top Five Favorite Movies about Military Veterans - AND we celebrated Annie, who is a US Army Veteran and retired Lt. Colonel. Now that the day job is calming down for me, I do hope to have a few more live casts with this crew, and with Chris Corral as well. These shows are SO much fun to do together...although the audio is not always the best, it's still a ton of fun to get together and talk about these films and other pop culture stuff. It was also totally fun to see how our films run the gamut from World War II to Vietnam to present-day conflicts...and we cover everything from PTSD to gays and lesbians in the military. And, yes, there ARE multiple Oliver Stone movies on our lists, ha ha ha. Enjoy - as usual! And let us know if you have Top Five List ideas! We want to hear them!!!
What in the sam hell did we ever do before Netflix? Well...we watched HBO, we rented a shit-ton of DVD's, and we watched network television (cable?). Nothing wrong with any of this stuff, but for those of us who got a little bit bored with "Must See TV" and never really got into Friends or Seinfeld, Netflix brought some of the most original and groundbreaking stories ever put into a narrative series (or sitcom, for that matter). Without Netflix, there would probably not be the concept of "binge-watch" and there for sure would not be Netflix and Chill...but there would also not be these really clever, cool, funny, and truly original shows that made our Top Five List. And it's amazing that (a) Annie and I did have a small amount of overlap and (b) she shared shows that I've never heard of and vice-versa. Browsing on Netflix for me is a little bit like going into Amoeba Records in Hollywood - I need to set a time limit and make a decisive choice or I'll be in there all day. And just to confirm - these are the shows that Netflix has put into SEASONS and that originally aired on Netflix/were produced by Netflix. So, while I think you can still watch most of the seasons of American Horror Story on Netflix, it is not eligible for this week's episode because it's not an original Netflix Series. Furthermore - all of the many LIMITED SERIES (also known as Mini-Series) will be featured on a different show all together. So - as usual - if you like, hate, disagree, or have any sort of feelings either way about our lists, please send us an email: hello@thetopfivepodcast.com ENJOY!!!
While these physical blessings are least important in my Top Five List of thanksgiving blessings, they do come from God. And it is fitting that we give God thanks for them all. Or as Martin Luther says, "For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true."
This was a slightly nerve-racking episode - I mean, I'm no sports widow but going toe-to-toe with my swim-coach hubby in sharing our top five favorite sporting comeback moments was quite something! And actually, it was tons of fun and I do believe hubby will be back for more episodes. You cannot deny the impact of a rock-star-sports-comeback story. Whether it's baseball, football, swimming, golf...whatever, we all have our favorites. The clips we will watch again and again on YouTube and then share and re-share them on social media because they inspire us so much. The ones you banter about with your buddies every year when some current sports event triggers a memory. Everyone has a favorite! Let us know what you think of the episode! Send an email to hello@thetopfivepodcast and give us the skinny on whether you think this Top Five List is legit or full of shit :). we're counting on you!

Welcome back! This week my sister Annie and I take on our very favorite movie soundtracks, which is something we both feel had way more appeal in the 80s and 90s than it does today, and that's mostly because of streaming music and all that jazz. But nonetheless, we both acknowledge that creating a movie soundtrack takes some serious talent and creativity and that's why we absolutely LOVE talking about them! Annie and I both have the reaction of thinking back to that exact scene in a particular film when a particular song is being played and we can FEEL those moments through the music. That's when you know you've got a GREAT, kick-ass soundtrack that surpasses space and time and all that stuff. So - what do you think of this week's lists? Any thoughts or challenges? What would be on YOUR top five list of favorite soundtracks? Or better yet, do you have a Top Five List idea for us? We want to hear it!! Shoot us an email at hello@thetopfivepodcast.com See ya next week!

AND - I have another amazing new co-host! Y'all say hello to Heather Zeitzewolfe of the "Get the Balance Right" podcast! Even though she's a vegan and a sexy CPA and I'm still a meat and milk person who knows diddly poo about accounting, we are totally simpatico when it comes to our pop culture stuff. Not only are we both GenXers, but we were born in the same year and had a lot of the same experiences growing up. I am very fortunate to have Heather in my life as a fellow podcaster, profit accelerator mentor, friend, and now Top Five Podcast Cohost! Heather's debut episode is nothing short of iconic as she decided we should take on our Top Five Favorite Episodes of THE BRADY BUNCH!! How much more pop culture can you get?!?!? And Heather has great insight on this show, sharing some really amazing trivia and other fun facts. She even showed off her Very Brady Series Box Set!!! If you like the Brady Bunch even a little bitty bit, you're going to love this episode and you'll totally appreciate Heather as a co-host. We have a total blast. This may be her first episode, but it WILL NOT be her last! What do you think of our top five lists? We'd LOVE to hear from you - please drop us a line at hello@thetopfivepodcast.com. Let us know if you have any Top Five List ideas for us!!
Okay - I lied. We WERE close to rounding out this musical series but there were other Top Five Lists to explore, so there you go...it was quite something to record in person with my sister, Annie Pruitt, during some vacation time in Kansas. Totally a great time! Today's theme is Favorite Movies featuring Live Musical Performances. These are movies that may not originally have been considered musicals, but there IS live music and there are performances, and lots of songs. We did not have any overlap for this show so you will likely be introduced to some films you may not have heard of and/or may not have thought about for a while. We've still got Guilty Pleasure Movie Musicals coming soon and sadly we had to re-record Movie Musicals Released BEFORE 1980, but that actually turned out okay because we did it live, in person, during my vacation in Kansas. Good times. Hey - you haven't emailed us any Top Five List ideas!! What's up with that? Let's get on that, shall we? hello@thetopfivepodcast.com and give us your thoughts, pitch yourself as a co-host, or a plethora of other things. We want to hear from you, for realz!!
In the spirit of complete transparency, this was the very first episode I wanted to record once coming up with the idea of The Top Five Podcast (and since launching the show live, I've realized that there are another couple of Top Five Podcasts out there, oh well). And was so stoked to do this one with my sister, especially since we were able to enjoy the Go-Go's in concert together back in March. So we share our Top Five Favorite Go-Go's tunes in this show and have a darn good time talking about them. We hope that Belinda, Charlotte, Jane, Kathy, and Gina are able to check out this episode and we will shamelessly tag them on Instagram to ensure that they do, LOL. Do you have a Top Five List you'd like us to take on? Or do you want to challenge any of our lists? Shoot us an email at hello@thetopfivepodcast.com. We want to hear from you!!

In today's episode, Annie and I take on our favorite movie musicals that were released after the year 1980. We get into a few little extra things, too - like how our parents and siblings shaped our view of movie musicals when we were younger as well as what we really think defines the concept of "Movie Musical." While this was one of our first episodes recorded, it is coming out mid-season, if you will. No worries - there's still alot more movie musical stuff coming! Do you have a Top Five List idea or want to challenge our list? Send us an email - maybe we'll share your idea for debate on the show! That email address is hello@thetopfivepodcast.com. First, the apology. The sound quality on this one is lacking, a poor connection, may make for tough listening at times. Blame me! The interview however, is great. I spend 25 minutes chatting with Brent about drywalling. Well, not quite, we do however see what one of Canada’s most versatile and speedy triathletes is doing other than training during this whole Covid thing. We also talk, in detail, about rivalries in triathlon. They are good for the sport but triathlon hasn’t had many. Brent & I discuss the topic from all angles including the hospital. Also on the program, we have another episode of Mikey’s Top Five List. This time Mikey gives us some helpful hints to keep us motivated and engaged in our training during the last gasps of our West Coast Winter. Hear it all by pressing play below. Welcome to a very special series of BSB podcast specials with our very own ! Lyndsay teaches and has kindly agreed to record it for posterity. So now you can listen to her introduction to the Sherlock Holmes canon wherever you are. Here's Lyndsay's class description for the week—and don't forget to do your homework for next month's ;) SESSION 1: The Adventures --A Scandal in Bohemia --The Red-Headed League --The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle --The Adventure of the Speckled Band The Sherlock Holmes mysteries are timeless adventure stories, still more popular today than upon their initial appearance in the Strand Magazine. While the two novels A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of Four were published first, Holmes as a cultural phenomenon exploded when Doyle adapted the character into a short form hero. Three of these tales are included in Conan Doyle's "Top Five" List of his own favorite stories, while "The Blue Carbuncle" offers a deliciously atmospheric account of Holmes's deductive abilities. We'll discuss the style and efficiency of Doyle's prose, the real life inspiration for the character of Holmes, the effect these works wrought on the mystery genre, Victorian London as a major character, and the inherent vigilantism of Holmes's moral compass.
